Eldritch Balthazar
Eldritch Balthazar, Count of Ilmaron and official owner of the Sea Turtle
Third son of Duke Waldemar and Duchess Constance and primary protagonist of the series. A young human with a bizarre obsession for studying Deep Spawn, Eldritch is often seen as an eccentric by many including many other nobles in the Kingdom of Maharlika. Driven by a need to prove himself and his mother's many achievements, he has embarked on a quest to hunt the dreaded Bakunawa and bring its heart home in order to fabricate a cure for the Phantom's Taint.- Admiring the Abomination: He has an unhealthy interest in even the most grotesque of Deep Spawn and causes others to fear for both his sanity and safety.
- Amusing Injuries: Prone to this in the various experiments that take place in his laboratory within the ship.
- Celibate Hero: This despite having a harem with 36 members. Although there are rumors of him having a previous relationship with an Imperial Princess that ended disastrously. This is largely because the Gilded Church, by law, couldn't burn witches who were married to nobility. It also helps that the women he's married to have no beef with him or one another.
- The Ditz: He has a habit of falling off the ship.
- Genius Ditz: He can be annoying and troublesome due to his curiosity and naivete but almost a peerless expert when it comes to Deep Spawn anatomy.
- Ignore the Fanservice: He does this most of the time to his harem. However, he doesn't always succeed.
- Mad Scientist: His interest in studying Deep Spawn borders on being a little unhealthy.
- Non-Action Guy: Hhe has no compunction about killing and experimenting on Deep Spawn but disdains having to hurt other sentient beings.
- Polyamory: He has seven wives and seven concubines who don't mind each other.
- Sibling Rivalry: With brash Cassius and whiny Fabio.
- Technical Pacifist: He will happily cut up Deep Spawn in his laboratory but doesn't like fighting other sentient beings. Instead, he will resort to using his electric stun weapons.
Samantha Delacroix
Captain Samantha Delacroix, a Witch and captain of the Sea Turtle
A witch with a rather sketchy background, Samantha had been dedicated to hunting Deep Spawn for more than twenty years now. While certainly skilled as a sea beast slayer, her single-minded dedication for hunting and killing leviathans often call up disturbing implications about her state of mind. Her personal goal is to kill the Bakunawa for killing her young wife at least two decades ago.- The Alcoholic: She's never too far from a bottle and/or glass of rum.
- Animal Motifs: The orca, which easily fits in with her nature as a sea-beast slayer.
- Animal Nemesis: She's dedicated in hunting and killing the Bakunawa and also takes pleasure in slaying other leviathans and deep spawn.
- Ax-Crazy: Not always apparent, but she becomes this once she catches sight of the Bakunawa.
- Dark and Troubled Past: Seems to have been a pirate or some kind of criminal before she met Naomi.
- The Determinator: nothing will stop her from hunting the Bakunawa. Even the loss of her ship the Calm Fury has done little to slow her vengeance.
- Expy: Appearance-wise: a mix of Garnet Mclane and Viletta Nu. In terms of personality she's a Captain Ahab with a dash of Quint.
- Handicapped Badass: She's missing her left eye but can and has laid waste to leviathans which are all too often a hundred times bigger than she is. And that doesn't even include all the other Sea Monsters she's had to face in the past.
- Jerk with a Heart of Gold: She's dismissive of Eldritch's naive views and is quick to dispel what she perceives as misguided optimism. However, she is shown time and time again to care deeply for her crew.
- Kick the Dog: She's very brutal towards deep spawn, especially leviathans.
- Knight in Sour Armor: She has shades of this as she is often shown to have a sense of decency and a love for her crew despite her blood thirsty nature.
- A Mother to Her Men: She cares rather deeply for her crew and will come through for them come hell or high water.
- Pet the Dog: Saving a young boy named Sean Davis, a Heartwarming Orphan, from an Orphanage of Fear and a possible early death in a Nightmarish Factory.
- Prongs of Poseidon: She's a seagoing hunter of ocean monsters who fights using a trident.
