- Hypocrite: Despite painting the Borgias as connivers without scruples, he's willing to go to the same lows in order to ruin them.
- Knight Templar: Believes he's on the right side of history when compared to the Borgias.
- Perpetual Frowner: His default expression.
- Precision F-Strike: When he's swearing in Rodrigo as pope while talking in Latin.

Played by Diarmuid Noyes)Giulia's brother, a cardinal, and an old friend of Cesare's. Father of three sons by his long-time mistress Silvia Ruffini.- Nice Guy: Generally just wants to do his job as cardinal without being roped into the Borgias' schemes.
- Perma-Stubble: Starting in the second season.
- Token Good Teammate: He really is very moral most of the time.
- We Used to Be Friends: He and Cesare were friends when they were classmates in Pisa.
- Wouldn't Hurt a Child: Used in stark contract to Cesare. After Cesare likens himself to Abraham and abandons his firstborn son on a hilltop, Alessandro eventually saves the baby from the elements and returns him to his mother.

- The Bus Came Back: Comes back to Rome during Rodrigo's final days.
- The Consigliere: To Rodrigo. The Borgia patriarch confides his deepest thoughts and secrets in Gacet.
