Tropes that apply to multiple characters
- Dub Name Change:
- The English names of the characters are largely different from their original Chinese names. For example, Logger Vick was named Guāngtóu Qiáng (光頭強/光头强)note , Briar was named Xióng Dà (大熊)note , and Bramble was named Xióng Èr (熊二)note .
- The Hindi dub does considerable work on the characters' names; Briar is known as Bablu, Bramble is known as Dablu, and Logger Vick is known as Lakkha.
- Sliding Scale of Animal Communication: Level 7 for Briar and Bramble, as they are seen communicating with Vick and occasionally other humans. Probably Level 4, aka Animal Talk, for the other animals, as Babian can talk but is only heard meowing by Vick.
- Stock Animal Diet: The bears and their honey, Warren the squirrel and his pinecones, and Tiki and Babu the monkeys with their bananas.
- Talking Animal: Besides Briar and Bramble, who are borderline Civilized Animals capable of doing human things, pretty much the only human characteristic the animals of the woods express are talking. The circus animals are Partially Civilized however.
- Woodland Creatures: All of the animals, except for Tiki and Babu, are these.
Briar and Bramble
A duo of bear brothers who reside in the forest and are always protecting it from Logger Vick. Briar, the one with brown fur, is smart and resourceful; Bramble, the one with tan fur, is more dim-witted and loves to eat.
- Bears Are Bad News: Downplayed. The bear brothers are only bad news to Logger Vick's job. They never try to attack Vick.
- Beary Friendly: The bears occasionally befriend Vick and some of the other humans.
- Beary Funny: Bramble is especially this, as he is less wiser than Briar and loves to eat food.
- A Dog Named "Dog": In Chinese, Briar is known as Xiong Da ("big bear") while Bramble is known as Xiong Er ("second bear").
- Floral Theme Naming: "Briar" and "Bramble" are both names for shrubs. However, this only applies in the English dub, as their names in the Chinese original follow Numerical Theme Naming instead.
- Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Despite the bears' attempts to get Logger Vick out of the woods and often hurting him when doing so, they will still sometimes help him if he either gets sick of seriously injured.
- Manchild: Bramble who is the younger of the two bears often acts childish and naive despite being a full grown male bear.
- Numerical Theme Naming: The bears' original Chinese names are in their birth order, with Briar being "Big Bear" (i.e. "Eldest/Firstborn Bear") and Bramble being "Second Bear".
- Obsessed with Food: Bramble loves food and will easily get distracted by it.
- Running on All Fours: Despite usually being seen walking on two legs, the bears will sometimes run on all fours as a Furry Reminder.
- Sibling Team: Briar and Bramble are bear brothers who work together to make sure Logger Vick doesn't destroy the forest they live in.
- Sibling Yin-Yang: Briar is smart and resourceful while his brother Bramble is more dim-witted and lazy.
Victor "Logger Vick" Von Finkelstein
A bald man who works for a logging company and tries to cut down trees in the forest, only for the bears to stop him.
- Anti-Villain: He isn't really a villain, he's just a loser trying to do his job only to be stopped by the bears. He is definitely good and is seen helping out the bears.
- Butt-Monkey: Vick's attempts to accomplish his job always go hilariously wrong, thanks to the bears.
- Depraved Dwarf: Downplayed. Vick the Anti-Villain is quite short for an adult human.
- Ineffectual Sympathetic Villain: He cuts down trees for a living and never seems to succeed. He is constantly abused by both the bears and his Mean Boss. In conclusion, it's safe to feel sorry for him.
- Only Known By His Nickname: He's most commonly known by his nickname "Bald Qiang" in the Chinese original, but it's eventually revealed that his real name is Hua Qiang (華強/华强).
- The Von Trope Family: His full name in English is Victor von Finkelstein. Considering "von" is used for German noble families, yet Vick, being a butt-monkey whose is absolutely pathetic as his simple job of cutting trees, doesn't resemble an aristocrat or anyone else you would expect to have the name at all, it's Played for Laughs or at least used to show he has Germanic origins.
Boss Li
Logger Vick's boss, who always calls him on the phone in order to coerce him into chopping down more trees.
- Mean Boss: He frequently harasses Logger Vick through telephone and threatens to cut down his wages if he doesn't contribute to the logging business.
- No Indoor Voice: He always shouts in the phone whenever he calls Logger Vic.
- The Voice: Most of the time, he's only ever heard through Logger Vick's phone. Even when he is physically seen, it's only his arm and hand, the latter of which is decked out with a golden watch and rings.
