Hemitheos Units

     Empress

Black Rock Shooter/Empress

Voiced by: Yui Ishikawa (Japanese), Courtney Lin (English), Regina Tiscareño (Latin American Spanish)

Once a young orphan girl taken under the custody of Jessica in the early 2030s, Empress is a Super-Soldier who tries to find peace at a war against a cult of aliens. She goes by the codename of "Hemiteos Unit Type 01".
  • Adaptational Nice Guy: While she still retains BRS's usual stoicness, she's nowhere near the sociopathic Villain Protagonist she was in the 2012 anime, or even a pre-defrosting Emotionless Girl like her game and Innocent Souls counterparts, instead being a compassionate heroine who is willing to help others get back on their feet.
  • Adaptational Skimpiness: She's not wearing her Badass Longcoat in this continuity.
  • Adaptational Weapon Swap: While she still keeps her Rock Cannon, she doesn't have the Black Blade and instead wields a semi-automatic pistol.
  • Adaptation Name Change: This version of Black Rock Shooter goes by "Empress", as opposed to her namesake in the 2010s anime and Arcana, Rock in Innocent Souls, Stella in The Game, and later Elishka in Fragment.
  • All-Loving Heroine: Her compassion is one of her most defining traits. She'll never abandon anyone who is in need.
  • Amnesiac Hero: She lost the majority of her memories at the start of the story.
  • It's Personal: Empress develops animosity towards Smiley for murdering the maidens. Upon learning that he kidnapped Miya only, all bets are off.
  • Nice Girl: Despite mostly being an Emotionless Girl, she’s very caring towards those around her.
  • Single Tear: In the few times she gets emotional (such as failing to save the hostages from a bomb or when she learns of her past), this is her reaction.

     Dead Master

Dead Master

Voiced by: Saori Hayami (Japanese), Dawn M. Bennett (English), Cristina Hernández (Latin American Spanish)

A friend to Empress who was also taken to an orphanage at a young age. Now she's a member of the Hemitheos Unit.
  • Adaptation Dye-Job: Dark hair with green tints in the OVA and anime, green hair here.
  • Adaptational Weapon Swap: Similar to her Innocent Soul counterpart, this Dead Master switches her signature Sinister Scythe for a different weapon. In this case, a sniper rifle.
  • Ambiguously Gay: Dead Master is shown to have some shades of this towards Empress, even blushing at one point.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: While everyone is afraid of Dead Master due to her demonic-looking horns, Empress thinks those horns are cool resulting in Dead Master to fall for her.
  • Berserk Button: When Strength calls Dead Master a "heavy woman" (or an "A-class clinger" in the dub) in Episode 11, her response is an agitated "huh?".
  • Precision F-Strike: At least in the dub, where she calls the giant bug chasing Empress and Strength a "fucking demon" before shooting it.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: She really loves eating roasted marshmallows.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Strength reveals in Episode 8 that Dead Master has a crippling fear of bugs and would sometimes fly into a Freak Out-induced rage if she sees one.
  • Yandere: Similar to her anime incarnation, she is infatuated with Empress (the show's equivalent to Black Rock Shooter) to the point that it would be an understatement to say that Dead Master would flip if she finds out that Empress is with another woman. Being tortured into insanity by Lunatic might have caused this.

     Strength

Strength

Voiced by: Megumi Han (Japanese), Anzu Lawson (English), Amanda Hinojosa (Latin American Spanish)

An aggressive girl who was brought into a lighthouse alongside Empress and Dead Master.
  • Ambiguously Brown: As usual with every other incarnation of the character, including the previous one, Strength has a darker skin tone compared to the rest of the Hemitheos Units, with no explained background on why she's like that.
  • Adaptational Jerkass: Much like her anime counterpart, this Strength is a lot more Ruder and Cruder and acts hostile towards Empress due to the headache she got from her previous confrontation against Lunatic. Even after losing her headache and rejoining Empress, she's still far from nice. Later zig-zagged in Episode 5, since Strength's tough girl personality came from wearing the Gigantic Arms; the "real" Strength is actually a Shrinking Violet.
  • Adaptational Weapon Swap: Downplayed. This Strength wields a variant of her Ogre Arms.
  • The Alcoholic: Justified. She constantly drinks alcohol as a way to alleviate her headache. This is no longer the case at the end of Episode 5.
  • It's Personal: She initially thinks Empress is to blame for her headache but later turns her attention to Lunatic, who is responsible for the Cold-Blooded Torture that left her with it in the first place.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Despite her hostility towards Empress at the beginning, she's shown to be an Aloof Ally and has nothing but utter contempt towards the Institution. It's also revealed that her rude personality came from the Gigantic Arms; with them off, she's actually quite cordial, if a bit meek.
  • Precision F-Strike: While other characters tend to say profanities at some point, Strength stands out among them.
  • Split Personality: Switches between a sharp-tongued Jerkass (with Gigantic Arms) and a wimpy Nice Girl (without them).
  • Walking Spoiler: It's difficult to mention Strength without bringing up her true personality when she isn't wearing the Gigantic Arms.

Other Major Characters

     Monica Kaburagi

Monica Kaburagi

Voiced by: Ayaka Asai (Japanese), Miley Yamamoto (English), Annie Rojas, Rebecca Manriquez (as an elder) (Latin American Spanish)

One of the major supporting characters of Dawn Fall. She's a young woman who is experienced at hacking and engineering. She's also friends with the Hemitheos Units and has Black Trike as her vehicle.
  • Ambiguously Brown: She has noticably tan skin compared to the other characters, but it's unclear what her ethnicity is. The name "Monica" could indicate she's an American born Japanese.
  • Gadgeteer Genius: Claims to be a skilled mechanic and is in love with machines.

     Black Trike

Black Trike

Voiced by: Misaki Kuno (Japanese), Reba Buhr (English), Edurne Keel (Latin American Spanish)

Initially debuting in The Game as just a regular motorcycle, Black Trike is an artificially intelligent advanced military vehicle who also serves as a companion to Monica and Empress.
  • Sentient Vehicle: She is capable of speaking to Empress and Monica despite being a military-made motorcycle.

Education Institution

A cult-like Nebulous Evil Organization and the main antagonist group of Dawn Fall.

     Lunatic

Lunatic/Artemis

Voiced by: Akane Tomonaga (Japanese), Monique Shi (English), Yetzary Olcor (Latin American Spanish)

An alien-like AI who serves as an avatar to Artemis.
  • Creepy Monotone: She speaks in a flat, almost lifeless tone of voice, which combined with the fact that she's an AI makes her sound unsettling for a villain.
  • White and Red and Eerie All Over: Lunatic wears white as her primary color, and light pink as her secondary. Her hair is also a two-toned color of the aforementioned colors. All of these characteristics highlight her eeriness and antagonism.

Others

    Isana

Isana

Voiced by: Kei Mizusawa (Japanese), Stephanie Wong (English), Jocelyn Robles (Latin American Spanish)

A former friend to Monica.
  • Ambiguously Brown: Like Monica, she has tan skin even though her background is unknown.
