Alliances

    open/close all folders

    Hot Chocolate
Composed of the masterminds behind (so far) every eviction, Hot Chocolate aims to recreate the success of The Cookout from Big Brother 23 in that they want to dominate the game and crown, this time the fourth black winner and potentially the first female black winner. Members are: Spicy Vee, Kayla, Avery, Lexus and Anthony.

  • Amazon Brigade: Anthony is the sole guy in the entire alliance. And ironically calling most of the shots.
  • A House Divided: They can never seem to agree on a consensus target, often times arguing and changing things at the last second.
  • Big Bad Duumvirate: Spicy Vee and Dougie share this role in the alliance.
  • Playing Both Sides: Plays the guys side and Spicy Vee's girls alliance.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: The fact they made it as far as they did was nothing short of impressive, unfortunately Anthony is The Gadfly and likes to mess with the girls in his alliance whereas the others just follow Spicy's lead, this leads to Victoria wanting to go after one of Anthony's numbers, Anthony wanting to go for or one of her numbers and Chaos Ensues.
  • Total Party Kill: None of them won the season, with the three core members of Spicy Vee, Kayla, and Avery, all being sent to jury, Lexus gets cut by Anthony in the finale, and Anthony ultimately loses to Bayleigh.
  • With Friends Like These...: They could have gotten to the final 6 had Anthony not turned the alliance against each other realizing Kayla is not a number for him but for Spicy.

    Big Sisters

An alliance made up entirely of the girls of the season hoping to crown another all female victor and have the first successful girls alliance in Big Brother Canada history.

Members: Spicy Vee, Kayla, Donna, Avery, Lexus, Janine, Bayleigh

Tropes applying to them.

  • Amazon Brigade: All made up of mostly physical and mentally savvy women.
  • A House Divided: Like Spicy's main alliance of Hot Chocolate these ladies can't see to agree on consensus targets up until Week 5.
  • Epic Fail: They crashed and burned as soon as they integrated with the boys. And while they reformed its clear Vee has allegiances outside of the alliance and ultimately doesn't want to vote out a girl. Despite this, Bayleigh still goes on to win with all four of the women who made jury giving her their votes.
  • Klingon Promotion: Spicy Vee was formerly The Heavy but became the true leader after they removed
  • The Leader: Spicy Vee formerly Janine.
  • Straw Feminist: Their goal is to be the first successful (in Big Brother Canada history anyway) girl's alliance by voting out the men systematically.

Winner

     Bayleigh Pelham

Bayleigh Pelham

Age: 34

Hometown: Halifax, Nova Scotia

Occupation: Bartender

  • Action Girl: The most athletic woman of the season.
  • Berserk Button: Tola bringing up that he won HOH before she did in front of everyone sets her off.
  • Deadpan Snarker: "Another woman went out on a woman's head of household. Why?"
  • Did You Just Punch Out Cthulhu?: Beat Anthony 6-1.
  • Dramatic Irony: Oh where to begin?
    • She was somewhat of The Friend Nobody Likes to the "Big Sisters" for the first few weeks. After Anthony and V decided that Janine and Donna should go first, she was considering tossing Bayleigh out, but ultimately thought Bayleigh could be more useful for her game going forward. Bayleigh managed to outlast V.
    • Victoria was Bayleigh's sole vote to evict. She later went on to vote for Bayleigh to win.
    • Bayleigh was pretty much the biggest voice against the idea of an "East Coast" alliance. Guess who she was most aligned with (Todd, from Labrador) and who maneuvered her way through?
    • Bayleigh was also kept around both as a shield, but also to get intel for the other side.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: Downplayed. Bayleigh isn't someone with a bad temper but she's definitely someone who gets into confrontations and arguments more than anyone else this season.
  • Hot-Blooded: An incredibly determined and fiery house guest.
  • I'm Not Here to Make Friends: Averted.
  • Large Ham: Bayleigh tends to act a bit unhinged during certain moments.
  • Lovable Alpha Bitch: Despite her sassy, snarky, and firecracker personality, Bayleigh is still liked due to her sense of humor and smarts.
  • Only Sane Woman: Of the "Big Sisters".
  • Playing Both Sides: Ultimately why she wins - While her loyalty was to the "Big Sisters", Bayleigh maneuvered around to get a read and intel on others that were technically not in her alliance, as well as formed other alliances. She even got Anthony to want to take her to the final two - and succeed!
  • Straw Feminist: Wanted a woman to win at just about all costs.
  • Suspiciously Similar Substitute: To Natalie White from Survivor: Samoa. Both were people kept somewhat on the outskirts of their alliance(s) and kept in because they could act as an effective shield and get intel from other sides.
  • Underdogs Never Lose: Bayleigh spent the early portion of the game being targeted and was unknowingly at the bottom of the majority alliance, completely unaware that Hot Chocolate was dominating most of the game. After Hot Chocolate crumbles, she's still in a precarious spot for most of the endgame, losing her closest allies Spicy Vee and Todd back to back. When Anthony wins final HOH, all hope seems lost for her before Anthony shocks everyone by taking her over Lexus, where she ends up beating someone who's considered one of the best Big Brother Canada players of all time.

Runner Up

Anthony "Dougie" Douglas - Big Brother Canada 7

Anthony Douglas

Age: 36

Hometown: Richmond Hill, Ontario

Occupation: Energy Compliance Supervisor

The frontrunner of Big Brother Canada 7, and the second-in-command of the infamous Pretty Boys. After being accused of riding Dane's coattails during his last season, this season he is playing a far more cutthroat game.

  • Affably Evil: While not exactly a bad guy, Doogie knows how to get his way and manipulate hid way to making most of the decisions and, up until Vivek's elimination, he controlled every vote.
  • Big Bad Duumvirate: With Spicy Vee as the main antagonists of the season not unlike the Vets of BB 13 US.
  • The Dreaded: Just about everyone was afraid of how smart he was - the only ones who weren't afraid of him (namely Dinis and Donna) he quickly tossed out.
  • Expy:
    • Of Cody Calafiore. Both had an obvious path to victory staring them in the face (Victoria for Cody, Lexus for Anthony) of someone who was very passive. They chose not to take them. They were both punished by a crushing defeat.
    • Of Dan Gheesling. He played a much more cutthroat game and was far more active compared to his first outing. Unfortunately, like Dan, he also failed to truly read the players he was with and paid the price for it by only getting one vote at the end (the only one whose eviction he wasn't truly behind on). Like Dan, he also made an attempt to Appeal to Emotion which no doubt lost a jury vote.
    • Paul Abrahamian from BBUS and Russell Hantz from Survivor. While nowhere near an Entitled Bastard as either of them, he failed to learn one of the reasons why he wasn't respected at the end both times was because he truly didn't get to really know how anyone thinks on a personal level or really related to them. Similar to both, he also made a few unnecessary moves when his alliance was largely in control which made them less likely to vote for him and made one fatal mistake at the end (Paul voting out James, Russell voting out Jerri)
  • Fatal Flaw: Pride.
    • Much like Dan Gheesling, he played the game far too logically, and failed to read just what people truly thought. As a result of this, Bayleigh knew how to play to peoples' emotions and ran circles around him. Also like Dan Gheesling, he attempted to make an appeal to emotion.
    • He's also not too good at comps either.
  • Karmic Defeat: Being The Gadfly may have broken up the girls, but it was the girls who he turned on and got the house to turn on that happily voted for him to lose.
  • My Greatest Second Chance: Played somewhat straight - he still finished in second place, but he did get a vote.
  • No, You: When Victoria was yelling at him for turning on Hot Chocolates, Anthony called her out for constantly flip-flopping.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: Averted. Most people call him Dougie though there are quite a few that refer to him as Anthony.
  • Real Men Love Jesus: Has a Christian cross around his neck.
  • Reality Show Genre Blindness:
    • Despite being a fairly impressive player in his own right, he has one Fatal Flaw: He had someone who was The Load in front of him and who made no moves on her own, and decided to take Bayleigh... who spent most of the game making moves with anyone.
    • He also attempted to play up how poor he was in real life and how difficult his life was. This comes off as somewhat tone deaf (As Tola was born in a refugee camp) and even entitled.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: When Victoria had her Villainous Breakdown, Anthony called her out on a lot of her behaviour.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: Compared to his previous season. Anthony was still quite a manipulator, but in 12, he seemed to flip the votes on Kayla for seemingly no apparent reason. He knew he had to break up the girls, but flipping the votes and the house on Kayla seemed to spell out his doom in the jury.

The Jury

Lexus Jackson (Evicted HG #12, Juror #7)

Lexus Jackson

Age: 24

Hometown: Toronto, Ontario

Occupation: Dental Hygienist

  • Because You Were Nice to Me: Why she aligned with Anthony moreso than Victoria in the Hot Chocolates. Victoria often treated her poorly (like getting angry at her getting in a showmance and saying that she just sat with Matthew) but Anthony at least listened.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Has her moments.
  • The Dog Bites Back: Lexus was happy to vote out Victoria.
  • Dramatic Irony: Even she didn't vote for Anthony!
  • Expy: Reminds many of Azah from 21 US. Both of them largely stayed back out of the fire, and started trying to make bigger moves and trying harder later on, only to get cut right before the end.
  • The Fashionista: Leuxs tends to dress more elegantly through most of the season.
  • Heartbroken Badass: Matthew's eviction not only breaks her heart but it's the catalyst that pushes her against Kayla and Avery.
  • Ice Queen: Even referred to as such within the season.
  • Only Sane Woman: The only girl in Hot Chocolate to make more rational and levelheaded strategic decisions. Likely a reason why she defects with Anthony later after the Jury begins.
  • Roaring Rampage of Revenge: After Matthew gets evicted, Lexus turns on Avery and Kayla during the Movie Night Massacre. She manages to outlast them and Spicy Vee in the game.
  • The Stoic: One of the quieter house guests of the season. The narrator pointed this out as well - calling her "Stoic Lexus".

Todd Clements (Evicted HG #11, Juror #6)

Todd Clements

Age: 31

Hometown: Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Newfoundland and Labrador

Occupation: General Contractor

  • But Not Too Bi: Bayleigh refers to her and Todd as "The Bi's" in her goodbye message to him. Outside of that mention, his bisexuality is never referred to or brought up across the season.
  • Cloudcuckoolander: Todd's sense of humor and personality come off this way.
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: Most of viewers and cast tend to underestimate Todd due to his offbeat personality but then get surprised when he wins comps, becoming the Veto King and going on a three-Veto streak win, becoming nigh untouchable until the final four.
  • The Dragon: Towards Bayleigh.
  • Nice Guy: Easily the kindest house guest of the season alongside the likes of Matthew and Kayla. It's this, his sense of humor, and his hometown that give him Canada's Favorite Player award.
  • Suspiciously Similar Substitute: Of Derek from 6 Canada: He aligns with a girl and is largely her muscle. Not only that, but both are blondes. He's also one of Paras from the same season - someone who tries to make everyone think is worthless and offbeat, but turns out to be not quite as stupid.
  • Obfuscating Stupidity: Purposefully tries to make himself seem very dim around the house so people underestimate him.

Victoria "Spicy Vee" Woghiren - Big Brother Canada 9 (Evicted HG #10, Juror #5)

Victoria "Spicy Vee Woghiren''

Age: 30

Hometown: Hamilton Ontario

Occupation: Social Worker

  • Alpha Bitch: Loves to torment the players on the bottom, flaunt her beauty, and control the Big Brother equivalent of the Black Widow Brigade, but also with Canada's Cookout.
  • Crass Canuck: Arrogant often prone to speaking her mind a little too much and regularly tries to control Anthony's decisions. Oh and she's from Hamilton Ontario. She's also a social worker somehow!
  • Big Bad Duumvirate: With Dougie.
  • Expy: Of Neda - both were people who were very well received in their first season, Took a Level in Jerkass in their second season, and alienated many potential allies due to this.
  • Fatal Flaw: Numerous flaws led to her backdoor in Week 8:
    • Victoria targeting her own allies such as Donna, Elijah, and Kayla.
    • Victoria making it very clear numerous times she's not loyal to Anthony at all.
    • Her poor treatment of Lexus and her role in Matthew's eviction isolating Lexus and pushing her towards Anthony.
  • From Nobody to Nightmare: In a similar vein to Parvati shallow in Survivor, she was brought back as an unexpected returnee and quickly goes from everyone wanting her out to getting everyone on her side.
  • It's All About Me: Boasts about how she happily would throw out her own allies because she says "They're not playing my game" and "They're not doing what's best for my game!".
  • My Greatest Second Chance: Performed much better this season than the last time.
  • Reality Show Genre Blindness: Ironically, she demonstrates this - in the Diary Room, she mentions that she thinks it's a good idea to go after people who aren't making moves best for "her game". Big Brother is not a team game - only one wins, this is something to be expected. She also was part of a girls' alliance, but happily put Donna up on the block - and the following week was saying she's running out of shields.
  • Sore Loser: Victoria spends her last few days in the house throwing all grace and dignity out the window. Between fighting with Anthony and blowing up Hot Chocolate on her way out, Victoria showed herself to be a petty and bitter loser and juror.
  • Suspiciously Similar Substitute: Shares a LOT in common minus the crying with Rachel Reilly also from a 12th season of Big Brother but she has the game savviness of Parvati Shallow. Until her Villainous Breakdown in Week 8 as she realizes she's headed out the door and she heads out less than dignified. She also is somewhat similar to Britney Hayes in the 14 incarnation - being quite a Sore Loser and a spiteful vote against the person who knew he couldnt' beat her.
  • Troll: Intentionally caused fights just to put target(s) on peoples' backs and delighted at it.

Tola Eam (Evicted HG #9, Juror #4)

Tola Eam

Age: 40

Hometown: Ottawa, Ontario

Occupation: Fiber Optic Technician

Avery Martin (Evicted HG #8, Juror #3)

Avery Martin

Age: 26

Hometown: Selkirk, Manitoba

Occupation: Videographer

  • Ascended Fangirl: Avery mentions in her pre-season press how Victoria is one of her favorite house guests. Guess who joined her in the game as a house guest and is an alliance with her?
  • Dork Knight: A Big Brother Canada super fan that's also a pretty strong competitor and strategist.
  • Hypocrite: Was bitter towards Anthony for not being loyal to Hot Chocolate despite evicting Kayla during her second HOH.
  • Karmic Elimination: After initially targeting him during both of her HOH reigns only to backdoor her close friends and allies, Tola ends up being the HOH to evict Avery.
  • Sore Loser: Just like Spicy Vee, she was a very bitter juror. She even told Todd to his face as he joined the jury that he was just Bayleigh's puppet seemingly for no real reason.
  • Undying Loyalty: To Spicy Vee and the Hot Chocolates alliance.

Kayla Clennon (Evicted HG #7, Juror #2)

Kayla Clennon

Age: 26

Hometown: Stouffville, Ontario

Occupation: Volleyball Coach

  • Beware the Nice Ones: Despite being one of the nicest house guests, Kayla can be pretty ruthless with her strategies.
  • Butt-Monkey: Along with Elijah, she was practically The Friend Nobody Likes to the Hot Chocolate alliance.
  • The Determinator: Kayla's back was against the wall during the Movie Night Massacre event where she was able to narrowly win the veto to save herself.
  • The Dog Bites Back: How her vote for Bayleigh can be read - Anthony essentially turned the entire house against her almost overnight. The first vote for Bayleigh was of course, hers.
  • Dramatic Irony: She said she would live and die for Hot Chocolate, guess who ends up being the first member of Hot Chocolate to be given the axe?
  • Expy: Has quite a bit in common with Hannah from Big Brother US 23, having an alliance of all black people, being gaslit and discredited by the other members, and ultimately ending her game for an alliance when she could have turned. Not only that, but Kayla sacrificed the most, having almost no other allies in the house so once she wound up on the block, almost nobody really was willing to listen to her.
  • Kick the Dog: A victim of it. Victoria and Avery backstab and put Kayla on the block in Week 6 and gaslight her during a house meeting. While this WAS Anthony's idea, (the lying about Kayla going after Spicy Vee and Avery) they took it too far. She even said in an interview after the show how floored she was at how fast everyone turned on her.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Helped deliver this to Anthony by being the first vote against him.
  • Last-Second Word Swap: When she is caught venting about someone and talking about who she wants to get out of the house next, someone not in the alliance comes in and she instantly catches what the others were saying - and manages to talk about how much she hates being on slop. And she gets away with it!
  • Lovable Jock: Was an all star volleyball player before she became a coach clearly wanting to empower other young women.
  • Nice Girl: Kayla is a loyal ally to others and is one of the nicer house guests.

Elijah "Goose" Kazlauskas (Evicted HG #6, Juror #1)

Elijah Goose Kazlauskas

Age: 31

Hometown: North Bay, Ontario

Occupation: ESL Teacher

  • Butt-Monkey: This guy is basically the punching bag pawn star of 12 Canada, given he always is put up by every single HOH as a pawn and even when he does get a break in the following week he is put on the block again by Avery this time as the target.
  • Irony: He was constantly the pawn almost every week, constantly disregarded by the other players, then he wins HOH and suddenly everyone wants to talk to him. Immediately after he is now the target with no allies.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: During Week 5 he is distrusted, disgraced and humiliated by Avery and Avery basically tells everyone else that HE is the Target.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: He's rarely called "Elijah". Except by Arisa

Evicted

     Matthew Wong (Evicted HG #5)

Matthew Wong

Age: 27

Hometown: Surrey, British Columbia

Occupation: Kinesiologist

  • Graceful Loser: While obviously upset that he's being split from Lexus, he leaves the house with a smile and shows no hard feelings for his vote off.
  • Nice Guy: Matthew was loved by the other house guests, but unfortunately everyone knew that made him a jury threat on top of his showmance with Lexus.
  • Out of Focus: Until Week 5, Matthew barely had much screen time within the show due to his passive gameplay. After his eviction, he remains as one of the lowest confessional counts of the season.

     Vivek Sabbarwal (Evicted HG #4)

Vivek Sabbarwal

Age: 25

Hometown: Saint John, New Brunswick

Occupation: Software Developer

  • Break the Haughty: Week 4 was essentially a repeat of Kyle Moore's HOH karma where he gets the boot shortly after ceding his HOH.
  • Butt-Monkey: He tried to be sneaky but folded when the house forced him to put up Dinis and proceeded to unanimously vote him out. The following week he got screwed by the Executive Power of Veto.
  • Downer Ending: To his game overall. Despite it being him getting his comeuppance for backdooring Dinis in Week 3, the guy is still voted out unanimously through a public vote due to a twist that snipes him out of the game on a week where up until that point, he was completely safe and not being targeted by Goose. He then exits the house to no live audience.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: Nobody trusted or liked Vivek outside of Anthony's group and the second he loses power, Goose promises his safety, but he gets screwed by a twist.
  • History Repeats: Once again the Week 3 HOH ends up the fourth person evicted. Just like Kyle from BB Canada 10.
  • Reality Show Genre Blindness: One of the biggest cases of this. Vivek kept trying to appeal to Anthony and the rest of the house, but no matter what he was not going to win any favours.

     Dinis Freitas (Evicted HG #3)

Dinis Freitas

Age: 48

Hometown: Toronto, Ontario

Occupation: Textile Designer

Veto Wins: 2

  • Broken Ace: Was one of the best veto players in the early game often getting first or second.
  • Didn't See That Coming : Eliminated in a blindside against Goose when the girls decided his veto streak had to come to an end.
  • Taking You with Me: His eviction caused the house to distrust Vivek who was, accidentally enough, the next one out.
  • Sore Loser: Oh my goodness, he definitely is after going on a 5 minute tirade about how he won't even make jury.

     Donna Marshall (Evicted HG #2)

Donna Marshall

Age: 26

Hometown: Hubbards, Nova Scotia

Occupation: Artist

  • History Repeats: Just like 10, the Artist is taken out early.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: Despite her larger than life personality, she wasn't focused on too much and her eviction in week two was a very spur of the moment decision by Spicy Vee.

     Janine Holmes (Evicted HG #1)

Janine Holmes

Age: 44

Hometown: Toronto, Ontario

Occupation: Hair and Makeup Artist

  • Decoy Antagonist: Implied to be the brains behind the Big Sister alliance but was the first out.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: The first one evicted from the game, but she stayed longer than most first boots, but with last season's removal of the live feeds we got to know her less.
