     The Postman

The Postman (Jack Mckenzie)

  • Good Luck Charm: Uses that as an explanation as to why someone may receive a magical stopwatch.
  • The Mentor: He helps Bernard and Karen along the way, especially when it comes to the advantages and consequences of using the watch.
  • Morality Pet: To Bernard.

     The Beasley Family

Bernard Beasley (Ryan Watson, previously: David Peachey)

Original Series (1997-2001)

  • Book Dumb: Downplayed. He isn't a terrible student but he heavily relies on his time-freezing watch for subjects such as maths and literacy.
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: Though he can be naive at times, he can pull stunts with his magical watch that can scare off even the most threatening criminals.
  • Future Loser: Subverted. In the episode "Doing Time", Bernard peeks into what his future will be like and sees that he becomes a convict who gets locked up only to be told that this was just a film he's going to play in the future, since Bernard actually grows up to becomes a famous actor.
  • Jerkass Ball: Although Bernard is usually pleasant in the original series, he can sometimes fall into this.
  • Nice Guy: He's usually polite with everyone around him, which is why a lot of locals seem to like him.
  • Older and Wiser: As Bernard progresses throughout the series, he becomes a lot brighter and more responsible and mentors Lucy and Sam about the responsibilities of using the watch.

The Reboot (2003-2004)

  • Adaptational Jerkass: The original series had Bernard being a down-to-earth and overall friendly guy, who was occasionally clumsy and easily irritable. The 2003 reboot has Bernard act like more of a jerk to his best friend, Nathan.
  • Everyone Has Standards: In "Learn to Earn:, he was absolutely disgusted with Nicolette when she forces younger pupils to give up their hard-earned money and even stuck up for them.
  • Friend to All Living Things: He loves and cares for animals, particularly Nathan's pet worms and Ms Savage's pet dog.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Despite his selfishness at times, he does care about his best friend Nathan and will have his back most of the time as well as showing some level of Jerkass Realization whenever he gets called out for it. There are also times he's willing to help his family, his caretaker (the only staff in school who seems to like Bernard) and even some of the younger pupils.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Jerk: In "Wheels", he chooses to cheat his way to win a bike and even deliberately sabotages Nathan's efforts to win.
  • Pet the Dog: In "Wheels", although he did end up cheating for a new bicycle in a race, he offers to share it with Nathan.
  • With Friends Like These...: In "Turning Japanese", he abandons Nathan when he becomes popular in school. Thankfully, they both made up in the end.

John Beasley (Martin Neil)

  • Bumbling Dad: He showcases extreme obliviousness to Bernard's antics.
  • Genius Ditz: He's very clumsy and generally clueless but is said to be talented at golf.

Jane Beasley (Ruth Hudson)

Lucy Rownham (Elizabeth Mellor)

  • Annoying Younger Sibling: A cousin-variant of this trope. She usually annoys Bernard, albeit unintentionally and acts more like a typical younger sister towards him.
  • Nice Girl: She's generally very friendly and jolly.

     The Hewitt Family

Karen Hewitt (Phoebe Allen)

  • Nice Girl: She's often kind and considerate of others. She even returned Bernard his watch, even with the knowledge of the time-stopping ability which in turn convinces Bernard to lend it to her from time to time.
  • Put on a Bus: After Series 3, Karen is never seen or even mentioned again.

Nathan Hewitt (Patrick Ball)

  • Married to the Job: Becomes so busy with work, he has less time to spend with his family.

     Pentup Primary

Nathan (Ezrah Roberts-Grey)

  • Deadpan Snarker: He has moments where he can be snarky towards Nicolette or even Bernard himself.
  • Morality Pet: To Bernard.
  • Only Sane Man: In the entire show, he's the only character who's reasonable and down-to-earth as well as being more responsible.
  • The Smart Guy: He's a fairly bright student and is much better at knowing how to defuse situations than Bernard.

Nicolette Ashbury (Rosie Day)

  • The Ace: Subverted. Though she appears to excel in all areas in school, she resorts to cheating and always tries to ruin the progress of other students.
  • Alpha Bitch: She's extremely popular in school and is also a bully towards the unpopular kids like Bernard.
  • Bad People Abuse Animals: She'll happily attempt to kill one of Nathan's pet worms, just because she thought he was the one who sprayed her with a water hose.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Usually sucks up to Ms Savage to get on her good side, which always works.
  • The Bully: She bullies and forces younger students to give up their money.
  • It's All About Me: She's generally very self-centered and likes all the attention.
  • Jerkass: The biggest one in the series.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Very rarely, has she ever made it out without being punished in one way or another.
  • With Friends Like These...: In "Party Animal", it's revealed that she doesn't even like her own friends even insulting them behind their backs.

Ms Yvonne Savage (Kay Purcell)

  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: She loves her pet dog, so much to the point of getting upset when she loses him.
  • Evil Teacher: She's extremely irresponsible and aggressive towards her student and sometimes takes pleasure in getting Bernard into trouble.

Mr Steel (Martin Ball)

  • Casanova Wannabe: He tries to pursue a celebrity in the episode "Cookie" but it doesn't work.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: He's more reasonable with Bernard and doesn't have as much bias towards his pupils as Ms Savage does.

Robbie (Nick Baker)

  • Almighty Janitor: A janitor who is actually smarter than he looks, which includes building flexible bars for Bernard to escape when Ms Savage locks up Bernard and Nicolette in a giant cage.
  • Nice Guy: He's the only one in the school (besides Nathan) who likes and helps Bernard.
