In General
- Forbidden Friendship: Between Ben and Holly. Since Ben is an elf and Holly is a fairy, elves and fairies generally don't get along very well and are seen to be living far apart from each another in the Little Kingdom. However they don't seem to mind as they have a very close friendship despite their differences (and despite the casual snarky comments their respective guardians Nanny Plum and Wise Old Elf throw at each other).
- Inverted (in a way), Holly's parents were a bit concerned about inviting Ben over to the royal fairy picnic in the very first episode of the series but besides that one brief moment everyone else is okay with their friendship.
- However, this might be because they are kids. One can wonder if they'll stay just as close when they grow up and Holly becomes queen.
- The Smurfette Principle: The elves are mostly men while there are around seven female elves at most if we're being generous.
- This trope is inverted with the fairies as they are mostly women, though the difference isn't as prominent with them since there are fewer fairies than there are elves.
- Young Love Versus Old Hate: Ben and Holly's young (platonic) love to Wise Old Elf and Nanny Plum's old hate.
