    The Protagonist
A fledgeling Beastie coach who has set out to rise in the Beastieball League and save the nature preserve of their home town.
  • Character Customization: Not just their clothes, face and skin color, but also more niche things like their phone color as well as their pronouns, including a gender-neutral "they/them" option.
  • Hello, [Insert Name Here]: As per genre tradition, it is possible to give the protagonist mostly any desired name.
  • The Beastmaster: Naturally as a Beastie coach, the protagonist controls up to 5 beasties during a match by guiding them in their actions, in addition to any Beasties they may be keeping in reserve outside of battle.
  • Hero Protagonist: The main character who works to battle the ranked coaches of the Beastieball League to gain influence with them and eventually stop their plans to build a stadium over the nature preserve of their home town.

Rutile Town

The protagonist's home town, home to a former Beastieball League champion. A large nature preserve can be found nearby.
    Marlin
A former champion of the Beastieball League, he has since lost his spark and finds that the sport has become something he simply cannot enjoy anymore.
  • Corrupted Character Copy: Marlin is this to Red, being a once highly capable Beastie coach, except over the years, he lost his joy for the craft, and grew complacent, not caring for victory anymore if that meant not having any fun. Bonus points for all members of his team, the Rutile All Stars, referencing various games in the Pokémon franchise with both their names and their team numbers.
  • Jade-Colored Glasses: Has been figuratively wearing these for many years before the story, as the league and Beastieball grew ever more competitive, and became less about fun. This led to Marlin eventually loosing his drive to win.
  • Mentor in Sour Armor: While he teaches the player about the ability to win games without ever dealing damage, it is clear that he believes that they still have a long way head of them if they ever want to even come close to their goals.
  • Silly Rabbit, Idealism Is for Kids!: Even after the player defeats them, he notes that at best, the chances of the Beastieball league stopping their plans to build a stadium over the Rutile nature preserve are slim, even if the player would rise to the top of the league.
  • The Beastmaster: He is the coach of the Rutile All Stars. Besides the Beasties of the team's reserve, which are implied to also be trained by him, he brings a Cherrily, Diggum and Servace to his match with the protagonist.
  • The Cynic: Has long since stopped seeing much hope, not even putting up any sort of fight when the league decides to build a stadium over the Rutile nature preserve.

    Riley
The best friend of the protagonist from when meeting them in the Rutile Town Nature preserve.
  • Childhood Friends: To the protagonist, who they have known ever since meeting in the nature preserve, despite kids not being allowed in there. The two had promised to keep each other's presence a secret.
  • Earthy Barefoot Character: The first to speak out against the destruction of the Rutile Town nature preserve, while also posessing a strong connection to the wild beasties, which do not seem to mind her presence. And yes, indeed always depicted as barefoot.
  • Endearingly Dorky: Their behaviour could best be described as that of a cousin at a family gathering, wanting to show you their hobby. Luckily, Riley shows a genuine wish to invite others into her interest, seemingly in hopes of making friends. She even keeps recordings of her favourite championship matches around to show others.
  • Messy Hair: Worn as a rather fluffy updo that only seems to grow with age.
  • Nerd Glasses: A classic set worn ever since she was a child, alongside an incredibly strong interest in Beastieball. She even serves as the oppenent in the game's tutorial.
  • Quirky Curls: Riley's upbeat nature and spirited demeanor are only matched by the curliness of her hair.
  • Rose-Haired Sweetie: A bright personality with brightly pink hair, even back when she was a kid.

Beastie Research Society

The Beastie Research Society, or BRS for short, is an organisation dedicated to the research of Beasties. They have been critically underfunded for a while now.
    Reese
A somewhat socially awkward scientist who gives the protagonist a Beastiepedia with which to document the beasties of the world.

The Beasties

    In General
  • Artificial Stupidity: Wild Beasties will not employ any real strategy in matches, instead most of their actions are random.
  • Ridiculously Cute Critter: Naturally, most Beasties are designed to be downright adorable, special shout outs to Sprecko, who's highly expressive poses allow for rapid endearment.
  • Three Approach System: The starters Axolati, Kichik and Bildit fall under this, representing a buffing, direct attack and passing focused playstyle each.
