Main Characters
Tomoharu Natsume
- Voiced by: Miyu Irino
The lead male character. He controls Kurogane and became an Asura Cryin after he made a contract with Kanade Takatsuki which gave birth to Persephone.
- Affectionate Nickname: Misao, Higuchi, and An all call him "Tomo."
- Childhood Friends: With Misao. They have been friends since elementary school.
- Minor Living Alone: He's sent to live on his own so he will not be in the way of his mother and her new boyfriend.
- Stock Light-Novel Hero: Tomoharu is an Ordinary High-School Student who happens to have a best friend that's a ghost. However, it turns out that said "ghosts" are actually the power sources of Humongous Mecha called "Asura Machina". In addition to this, various factions become worried about Tomo's growing relationship with various beautiful demon girls, because any romantic and/or sexual commitment to a demon allows a human to gain a Familiar called a "Daughter". A human with both an Asura and a Daughter is called an "Asura Cryin"—a Person of Mass Destruction whose own powers erase both their memories and ability to love, driving them mad. Fortunately Tomoharu becoming Asura Cryin is good for everybody involved, as not only the Asura Machina got an indefinite power source, Tomoharu can still maintain his sanity, Kanade is powered up, and in the end, the Burial Doll can be released from the Asura Machina.
Misao Minakami
- Voiced by: Haruka Tomatsu
Tomoharu's childhood friend and the main heroine.
- A-Cup Angst: She starts feeling very self-conscious about her chest size when going into the hot springs with Kanade and Shuri.
- An Astral Projection, Not a Ghost: What she is, otherwise she's either unconscious or stuck inside the "burial doll" tube.
- Childhood Friend Romance: She loves Tomoharu, whom she's been friends with since what appears to be elementary school.
- Cute Ghost Girl: She's a ghost who appears as a cute young girl. Turns out she's not really dead, though, see An Astral Projection Not A Ghost above.
- Genki Girl: Surprisingly, given that she thought she was dead for years. Also an oddity given other Burial Dolls encountered are emotionless.
- Invisible to Normals: Until Tomoharu got ahold of a "Stabilizer" which not only allows her to project herself longer in the living world but also appear to others.
- Jacob Marley Apparel: Tomoharu questions Misao on why this trope doesn't apply to her. Her only response is that "it'd be boring."
- Nice Girl: Never fails being nice towards Tomo, teasing aside.
- The Pollyanna: Being incorporeal doesn't stop her from enjoying life.
- Undying Loyalty: Towards Tomo.
Kanade Takatsuki
- Voiced by: Ai Nonaka
Tomoharu's Demon classmate and the other heroine.
- Buxom Beauty Standard: She has the largest chest of any girl in the story by far, leading to Misao and Reiko feeling self-conscience when they enter the hot springs.
- D-Cup Distress: Milked for gags sometimes.
- Flaming Sword: Her signature technique, Engetsu, lets her wield a sword made of fire.
- Hime Cut: She has blunt bangs, collarbone length sidelocks, and long straight hair. It fits her Yamato Nadeshiko qualities and occupation as a Miko.
- Miko: Her family runs a shrine which she helps at and she occasionally dresses as a miko.
- Nice Girl: Despite her rather violent first impression, pretty much all her later appearances show her to be a kind and sweet young girl.
- Yamato Nadeshiko: Her long, dark hair, reserved yet firm personality when the time comes, and devotion towards her beloved all point to this.
Science Club
Shuri Kurosaki
- Voiced by: Rie Tanaka
Tomoharu's upperclassman and the acting-president of the science club.
- Buxom Beauty Standard: She's very well-endowed in the chest department, bigger than any girl barring Kanade, which causes Misao and Reiko to feel uncomfortable when they all enter the hot springs.
- Cyborg: She's hid a lot of weapon in her body.
- Younger Than They Look: She's supposed to be 16 and in her second year of high school, but could pass for an adult woman.
