    Sylvester "Sly" Boots

Our, ahem, "hero".
Sylvester Bucelli. Once an up-and-coming investigator, now a down-on-his-luck private eye.
  • All Men Are Perverts: Is very keen on visiting the red-light district on Sender Station once they leave Anachronox.
  • Book Dumb: He thinks "Anachronox" starts with a "U".
  • Defective Detective: First seen getting defenestrated by a guy who's barely taller than his kneecaps.
  • Failure Hero: He couldn't save Fatima's life or prevent Sera from leaving, and ever since then he has spent his time owing money to the wrong people and getting sauced before the plot kicks off.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: He may be a mouthy, washed up, cynical tool of a man, but he does care about his team and is genuinely broken up over what happened with Fatima and Sera, and was a much better person before he Took a Level in Jerkass sometime before the events of the game.
  • Rambunctious Italian: He's definitely rambunctious and of Italian descent.
  • The Runaway: He did so at the age of seventeen, doing odd jobs and the like before becoming a photographer for a private investigator, which eventually led to him opening his own agency on Anachronox.

    Fatima Doohan

Her with Sly, Sera and Pal in happier times.
Boots secretary as well as the in-game cursor, having been uploaded to it upon her death.
  • Ambiguously Brown: Fatima has dark skin and blonde hair. Given the game's futuristic setting and its diverse selection of not only aliens but humans as well, these are rather quaint features by comparison.
  • Brain Uploading: How she survived her untimely end—her mind was digitally placed in a LifeCursor, the flying triangle that the player uses to interact with the world.
  • Exposition Fairy: On top of being the game's mouse cursor, she's also the provider of the game's lore.
  • Sarcastic Devotee: Being physically dead and reduced to a hologram leaves her with limited options for entertainment, besides being snarky while assisting Boots.

    Grumpos

Respect your elders, or else...
An eccentric recluse who has devoted his life to the study of MysTech and uncovering its secrets.
  • Dirty Old Man: He's just as interested in the red-light distinct as Boots is.
  • Rambling Old Man Monologue: One of his special abilities. No joke, it's an actual in-game ability; the player can use him to annoy obstructive people into doing what they want, like getting the hell out of the way. It is also a combat ability which will leave enemies stunned for a few turns.

     PAL- 18

Man's best robot friend.
A robot Boots got when he was nine, and his first companion once the player finds some new batteries for him.
  • Grew Beyond Their Programming: Becomes self aware after Sunder and makes sure everyone knows it, since he got a colorful attitude as a result.
  • Robot Buddy: Initially for Boots, then for the whole party. He eventually grows out of it and begins to assert himself as his own man... well, robot.

     Dr Rho Bowman
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/dr_rho.jpg
A genius scientist whose experiments may have uncovered something monumental—universe shattering levels of monumental.
  • All the Other Reindeer: Is seen as a heretic by her peers who disapprove of her research.
  • Ambiguously Bi: She talks about a past romantic breakup with Fatima, but the gender of her partner isn't mentioned on screen. This was confirmed to have been done intentionally by Tom Hall "...so it didn't lock her down to a specific partner preference."
  • Black and Nerdy: First met on Sunder, a planet of geniuses, and is by far the smartest member of the group.
  • Cool Shades: A pair of Morpheus-style ones.

     Stiletto Anyway
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/stiletto_bio.png
If looks could kill she wouldn't need the daggers.
Her real name is Seranata Iniwa, and she used to be Boots' detective-in-training until an unpleasant encounter with a local kingpin ended with their friend, Fatima's death. The next time Boots saw her was as an assassin, throwing knives into people at a club.

     Paco
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/paco_4.jpg
Paco Estrella, a real life superhero whose exploits were chronicled by Krapton Comics, until lagging sales put it out of business, along with him.
  • Jaded Washout: First encountered on a prison ship, not as one of the guards, but passed out on one of the cell beds.
  • Superman Substitute: If Superman had a drinking problem and was bald.
