Yoanna

Yoanna House

Then 23-year-old Yoanna House was a former babysitter from Jacksonville, Florida. Prior to her appearance on the show, Yoanna lost over 45 pounds in hopes of pursuing a modeling career. Despite her weight loss, Yoanna was criticized by the judges over whether she had a model's physique. She also clashed with Camille McDonald, especially after Camille spread a rumor that Yoanna had an eating disorder. Nevertheless, Yoanna's classic yet versatile look and passion for fashion made her a strong competitor, and she was named the winner of Cycle 2.

Mercedes

Mercedes Scelba-Shorte

Mercedes Scelba-Shorte was a college student from Valencia, California and quickly developed a close friendship with April Wilkner. Initially, Mercedes kept her lupus diagnosis a secret before revealing it to the other contestants halfway through the competition. She was praised for her runway walk and sweet personality, but ultimately the judges felt her look was too commercial and she placed second.

• The Cutie: Has a young, youthful appearance, and was sometimes criticized for looking too "cute" or too commercial.
• Graceful Loser: Although she joked about pulling Yoanna's hair out and yelling that it wasn't meant to be if she lost, Mercedes's reaction to Yoanna's win was focused on her individual disappointment rather than anger at Yoanna.
• Heterosexual Life-Partners: With April Wilkner.
• Older Than They Look: She was 21 at the time of the show, but was noted for looking younger.

Shandi

Shandi Sullivan

Shandi Sullivan was a Walgreens employee from Kansas City, Missouri and a self-proclaimed "ugly duckling." Initially, Shandi had a rocky start and landed in the Bottom Two in second episode for her poor walk and awkward posing. Shandi quickly improved, eventually winning several challenges and first call-outs. Shandi's trajectory was derailed when she cheated on her boyfriend in Italy and the emotional burden from the fallout caused her to be distracted on the photoshoot, resulting in her elimination.

• Dark and Troubled Past: She admits to having been involved with drugs and was previously arrested for robbery. She also hints to having an abusive childhood.
• From Bad to Worse: Shandi and her boyfriend have difficulty maintaining their long-distance relationship, with Shandi being jealous of her boyfriend hanging out with a married, platonic female friend. She reacts by flirting with other men, ultimately culminating in sleeping with an Italian male model.
• Heroic BSoD: She is distraught after the emotional fallout of her cheating and can't focus enough for the photoshoot, resulting in her elimination.
• Hospital Hottie: She worked at a pharmacy, but close enough.
• She Cleans Up Nicely: For her makeover, Shandi's hair is lightened and she's given contacts, resulting in a much more polished look.

April

April Wilkner

Born in Providence, Rhode Island, April Wilkner was a student at New York University prior to her appearance on America's Next Top Model. She quickly developed a close friendship with Mercedes Scelba-Shorte and was praised by the judges for her strong portfolio. However, she was also frequently criticized for her perceived cold, analytical nature. April struggled to show the judges her softer side and she ultimately placed fourth in the competition.

• Brainy Brunette: She studied at the Gallatin School of Individualized Study at New York University, where she graduated with a 3.95 GPA, and speaks several languages.
• Defrosting Ice Queen: Played with. She is frequently criticized for her cold and analytical nature and she attempts to show her softer side, but fails.
• Heritage Disconnect: She is half Japanese and half white and admits that she is not very connected to her Japanese side.
  April: "I'm a mutt, loud and proud."
• Heterosexual Life-Partners: With Mercedes.
• Insufferable Genius: According to the judges, she could come off as this at times.
  Mercedes Scelba-Shorte (about April): "I love her but she's going to die of a heart attack before she hits 27 because she puts so much stress on the little things and doesn't listen to the positive things."

Camille

Camille McDonald

Prior to her appearance on America's Next Top Model, Camille McDonald competed beauty pageants in her early teens, winning Miss Teen Florida 1996 and first-runner up for Miss Jamaica US 1997. Camille frequently clashed with most of the contestants, most notably Yoanna House. Camille initially proved to be a strong competitor but her arrogance became her downfall, and she was eliminated after her poor performance at the go-sees, in which she refused to alter her signature runway walk for a client.

• Badass Boast: Her infamous quote below, which also doubles as a Small Name, Big Ego moment, because Camille said this to a potential client on the go-sees.

• Beauty Contest: Prior to the show, she competed in beauty pageants and won several titles.
• Fatal Flaw: Her confidence veers into arrogance and even a visiting psychic warned her that her attitude puts people off.
• Older Than They Look: She was 25 on the show, but could pass for younger.
• The Rival: To Yoanna.
• Sassy Black Woman: She has a spitfire personality and is once described by the other contestants as opinionated, outspoken, and defiant.
  Camille: "Don't play me. You have a better chance playing Lotto."

Sara

Sara Racey-Tabrizi

Sara Racey-Tabrizi is of Iranian heritage whose parents disapproved of her modeling ambitions. The then 22-year-old was a restaurant hostess from Seattle, Washington. She had a quiet demeanor, but was dismissed for being too sexy for the fashion industry, placing sixth.

• Ms. Fanservice: Became her Fatal Flaw as she was deemed "too sexy."

Catie

Catie Anderson

One of the youngest contestants of the cycle, then-18-year-old Catie Anderson was known as the "cry baby" of the cycle for her major meltdown after her makeover and at the following photoshoot. Her perceived emotional immaturity proved to be a hindrance in the competition and she was eliminated after a lackluster commercial shoot.

• Ironic Echo: During the semifinals, she claims that she would shave her head enthusiastically if asked. Before the Laundry by Shelli Segal photoshoot, she announces, "I think fear is a complete waste of emotion." Guess who cries when she has to cut her hair short and cries over a fear of heights?
• Prone to Tears: Jenascia claims that Catie told her that she can cry "at the drop of a hat," causing some contestants to suspect Catie uses her tears for attention.
• Traumatic Haircut: For her makeover, her hair is bleached blonder and she gets a short haircut, which she is not happy about it.
• Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Catie's fear is falling to her death and for the Laundry by Shelli Segal photoshoot, the contestants are suspended via wires over a large hole.

Xiomara

Xiomara Frans

Born to a Cuban mother and Curacaoian father, Xiomara Frans was raised in Morganville, New Jersey. Prior to her appearance on America's Next Top Model, Xiomara was a semifinalist for the Ford Supermodel of Year but failed to impress the judges during the competition. She was criticized for her walk and lackluster photos, ultimately placing eighth.

• Butt-Monkey: Miss J makes fun of Xiomara's walk in front of the others, telling her that she looks like she's on crack. Nolé compares her underwater shoot to "a walrus wearing chiffon."
• Nice Girl: She comforted Catie during the photoshoot involving heights, even though Xiomara was also scared. Also turns into a No Good Deed Goes Unpunished, as when Xiomara tries to explain her lackluster performance in the photoshoot was because Jay Manuel was busy comforting Catie, Xiomara is scolded for worrying about Catie and not worrying about herself.

Jenascia

Jenascia Chakos

At 5'7, Jenascia Chakos was the shortest contestant of the cycle and prior to her appearance on the competition, she was waitressing at a Hooters restaurant. She narrowly avoided elimination in the first episode, after she overslept and was late to the photoshoot. Afterwards, Jenascia was repeatedly reminded that she needed to do more to stand out due to her short stature. Unfortunately, Jenascia was unable to break out from the rest of competition and was eliminated.

• Deadpan Snarker: She had a dry, self-aggrandizing sense of humor.
  Jenascia: [to Hooters customers] Do you guys need anything? No? Good, because I wasn't going to get it anyway.

• Heavy Sleeper: She overslept before the first photoshoot, causing her to be late and nearly eliminated.
• Height Angst: Played with. At 5'7, she was the shortest contestant of the cycle and repeatedly reminded that similar short models like Kate Moss were the exception, not the rule in modeling. However, she retained a positive attitude about her height.
  Jenascia: Screw it, I’m gonna be short and you guys are gonna like it.
• No Good Deed Goes Unpunished: She helps April at the first fashion show and after no one wakes her up for the photoshoot, she laments that she thought helping someone would mean someone would help her.
• The Unfavorite: Janice Dickinson repeatedly advocated for her elimination, due to the fact Jenascia was much shorter than the everage model. Even designer Betsey Johnson told her that she needed an additional six months of modeling school before coming into the competition.

Heather

Heather Blumberg

Born in Moreno Valley, California, Heather was 18 years old during her appearance on America's Next Top Model. She struggled with making friends in the house and with posing at the photoshoots. Ultimately, the judges felt she looked too much like a teenager for a serious modeling career.

• Graceful Loser: After her elimination, she shrugs it off, saying, "One man's trash is another man's treasure, I'm trash here and I'll guess I'll go be a treasure somewhere else."
• Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: She has long blonde hair and keeps it after her makeover.
• We Hardly Knew Ye: She didn't make much of an impression on the house and had little screentime.
• Tag Along Kid: As one of the youngest contestants in the house, she had difficulty relating to the older contestants.

Bethany

Bethany Harrison

The then-22 year old Houston, Texas native was notable for her sizeable bust and curvy figure, and for struggling to prove that she was more than just sexy. The judges felt Bethany Harrison lacked the versatility needed for a fashion modeling career.

  Bethany: "I hope that people stop looking at my tits and start looking at my talent."

• Ms. Fanservice: Turns out to be a Fatal Flaw, as the judges deem her "too sexy" for a fashion career.

Anna

Anna Bradfield

From LaGrange, Georgia, Anna Bradfield was the cycle's only plus-sized model and the only contestant to be married with children. As such, she often served as a maternal figure for the other contestants. She refused to pose nude for a photoshoot, saying that only her husband should see her naked, and she was the first to be eliminated.

• Team Mom: She is the only contestant married with children on the cycle and served as a maternal figure for the other contestants, especially Xiomara.
• We Hardly Knew Ye: She went home the first week, and since she did not do the first photoshoot, she is the only ANTM contestant to not have an on-show portfolio.
