Squad 0, the Secret Special Investigation Squad
Rokumichi Kusaba
An ordinary high-school student who is chosen as the latest test subject for the SAI monster experiments. He is transformed into Gashadokuro, a giant skeletal monster based off the Japanese legendary creature of the same name. However, he manages to gain control of his monster self somewhat and return to a half-human form. He is then recruited into the Squad 0, under the condition that he stay away from his loved ones.
- Childhood Friend Romance: With Yayoi. He asks her out in the first chapter, and spends the rest of the series trying to go on that date.
- Dem Bones: His Gashadokuro form is a giant skeletal monster the size of a house, and even in his normal self post-experiment, most of his body is exposed bone.
- Superpowered Evil Side: Unlike the other subjects, he is able to control his monster self, the Gashadokuro, but it still exerts an influence that he has to resist. The Sauad fears that if he transforms into his monster self too much, his human self can potentially be completely replaced by his monster self.
Yayoi Hino
A cute schoolgirl and childhood friend of Rokumuchi. She is short-tempered and physically violent towards people, especially Rokumichi.
- Childhood Friend Romance: With Rokumichi. He asks her out in the first chapter, and spends the rest of the series trying to go on that date.
- Damsel in Distress: She gets abducted by Sara Warren in the last third of the manga.
- Fiery Redhead: The typical red-haired Tsundere who beats up her crush.
- Tsundere: She is introduced punching Rokumichi and being quite the Fiery Redhead, and when she falsely believes that he challenged her to a fight, she prepares to beat the crap out of him. But as soon as he confesses his love and asks her out, cue a big Crush Blush followed by accepting his offer.
Eishu Kuromizu
A mysterious transfer student. He is actually a policeman, specifically a member of Squad 0, the Secret Special Investigation Squad. He initially tries to kill Rokumichi due to him being a threat to the world, but is convinced to spare him instead. Though their alliance is uneasy, as he is still prepared to do what is necessary.
- New Transfer Student: He is a mysterious transfer student introduced in the first chapter. And as revealed in the second chapter, he is in the class because he is actually undercover as a student.
Captain Jirou Gotou
The captain of the Secret Special Investigation Squad, aka Squad 0, and superior of Eishu.
- Big Good: He is the captain of Squad 0 who directs them toward fighting SAI, and is the one who recruits protagonist Rokumichi into his group.
SAI
Sara Warren
To a scientist, the fear of failure is the worst enemy. Our future is on top of the mountains of dead bodies.
The head scientist of SAI and the antagonist of the series.
- Big Bad: She is the head scientist of SAI who is responsible for turning Rokumichi Kusaba and many others into monsters, and is responsible for the monster attacks on innocents.
- Evil Matriarch: She uses her own unborn children as experiment subjects to turn them into monsters.
- Evilutionary Biologist: She aims to turn all of humanity into monstrous beings because she believes it to be a higher evolution, as she reveals in the final battle.
- Karma Houdini: Though defeated in the final battle, she is saved by a tiny monster belonging to Director Kazuomi, and while she will be used for his own experiments, she does not seem to have any problem with it.
- Mad Scientist: The head scientist of a crime syndicate who runs experiments where human subjects are turned into monstrous creatures.
- Really 700 Years Old: Turns out she has been alive for about 800 years, thanks to eating the flesh of a mermaid and becoming immortal.

Kazuomi Gotou
Nothing would be done if there were useless subordinates like you.
The director of the SAI organization. He is also the brother of Captain Jirou.
- Affably Evil: For his short screen time, he at least speaks to Sara respectfully and seems to be as much of a laid-back guy as his brother.
- Cain and Abel: The Cain leading the crime syndicate SAI to Jirou’s Abel, who leads the squad of police fighting against his organization.
- Greater-Scope Villain: He is the leader of SAI behind all their activities, but only shows up after the plot has been resolved. The Big Bad is Sara Warren, his head scientist who he somehow managed to get working under him despite her being immortal.

The Rokurokubi
AHAHAHAH! I’m so happy, thanks a lot, senpai. I’m so happy with your praise!
The very first monster faced in the series. She initially appears as an attractive girl in lingerie, but quickly reveals herself to be a monster resembling her namesake youkai.
- Back for the Finale: She somehow manages to appear in the mind of Rokumichi to encourage him to regain control of his body so he can live a happy life with Yayoi.
Ozaki Kei
A monster who murdered 12 people in Kijima Island. He is a nine-tailed monster who distorts his victims’ faces.
- Enfant Terrible: He killed 12 people when he was 8 years old.
- Spree Killer: While referred to as a serial killer, he fits this better as his 12 initial murders were said to be done in one night, and his murders in the present day follow that same pattern.
