Geniequestria is an Ask a Pony blog that takes place in an Alternate Universe take of the Season 5 finale. Beginning with Equestria already within a crisis, where before the story even begins Celestia and Luna has been kidnapped by the Storm King much earlier in a sneak attack that came much earlier then the full-scale invasion that started the events of the Movie. At the same time, the evil Starlight from the village of Our Town is still at large and suddenly makes a reappearance in the Royal Archives of Canterlot.

After a showdown from within the archives between her and Twilight that is quickly held to a stalemate. Twilight in a desperate move to try to quickly take care of Starlight before she can focus on the coming Storm King invasion, she rummages through the items in the archive for something that can at least incapacitate Starlight. She finally comes across her answer, in a dark purple lamp. Initially, she believes its something that will simply absorb Starlight's magic. But she's shocked when she realizes it's starting to stretch and pull Starlight's entire body too.

When Starlight is fully pulled into the lamp, Twilight panics and is suddenly worried the lamp might have hurt Starlight or worse. She takes the lamp back to her castle in Ponyville in hoping of finding a way to save Starlight, if still possible. Unfortunately for Twilight, things would get worse quickly. Upon trying to train Trixie to use a purified Alicorn amulet for the impending invasion from the Storm King. A stray blast from Trixie hits a shield that lifted the lamp containing Starlight, Trixie uses Super-Speed to catch the lamp before it hits the ground and accidentally rubs it in the meanwhile. Unleashing the genified Starlight onto Equestria.

Starlight's goal after being released from her lamp becomes quite clear: transform everypony in Equestria into genies like her. In an entirely different interpretation of the equality she seeked before, in a way in which Starlight has even more of a point. She even uses a bit of wordplay, saying her goal is now Geniequality.

The blog's story came to be from a brainstorming between the creators of I Dream of Twilight Sparkle and Ask Generous Genie Rarity. Both blogs that also centered around ponies transformed into genies. Though both, especially I Dream of Twilight Sparkle are definitely Lighter and Softer in comparison.

Tropes

  • Always Female: Every genie is female in Geniequestria. Although, it’s not actually a requirement, it’s just Starlight chooses it to be this way. She cites how much less stallions there are to mares, plus how just about all the most well-known leaders of Equestria are mares. So making everypony genified into mares she sees as helping with her goal of Equality. Though Starlight does bluntly admit it’s also because she prefers mares just that much
  • Anti-Villain: Generally all regular citizens transformed into Genies become this. They’re on Starlight’s side now. But they do not wish any harm on those opposing Geniequality other then to one day see them become genies too.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: The genies of Geniequestria can interpret any wish as they see fit. Starlight personally loves to twist wishes that either benefits her or messes with the wisher. If there’s even the slightest potential interpretation of a wish that could lead into a genification of another pony. She’ll tend to interpret it that way.
  • Becoming the Genie: Starlight's entire goal for all of Equestria
  • Berserk Button: Do NOT touch Starlight’s lamp. Trixie learns that the hard way during their duel
  • Bigger on the Inside: Implied to be the case for all genies in Geniequestria. Starlight’s lamp has an interior that includes a kitchen, bedroom, and more.
  • Crush Blush: Trixie blushes many times throughout her duel with Starlight. The latter notices all too well and teases Trixie throughout the duel. Upon being genified, all the feelings Trixie gets from her transformation gets het to just bluntly confess she had fallen in love with Starlight during the duel.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Trixie stood no chance against genified Starlight even with the power of a purified Alicorn Amulet.
    • A somewhat lesser extent to Starlight’s duel with Tempest. Though Tempest almost wins using the obsidian orbs that petrified the princesses.
  • Disc-One Final Boss: The Storm King. As Starlight exposes Tempest as the true strength behind the Storm King’s forces. Once Starlight has turned Tempest against him, the king was exposed for who he truly was and was turned to stone by one of Tempest’s orbs
  • Double Entendre: When Starlight and Trixie refer to duels after the latter’s genification. The duel may or may not mean a rematch of their first duel… in the bedroom of Starlight’s lamp.
  • The Dragon: Tempest Shadow. First to the Storm King. And then transfers over to when she switches toward Starlight's side when she agrees to become the commander of her genie army. (After becoming a genie herself too)
  • Evil Versus Evil: Starlight goes off to face the Storm King by herself.
  • False Innocence Trick: Starlight manipulates her old village into thinking she had turned a new leaf. Before she and Trixie starts to bottle them up
  • Gender Bender: All stallions are transformed into mares either prior to or simaulteanous with their genifications. In most cases, they gain new names after being genified.
  • I'm Not Doing That Again: Starlight and Trixie grant a wish that transforms every filly and colt into mares and stallions. It does however tire them out and they vow not to grant such a large wish all at once like that ever again.
  • Jackass Genie: Naturally, to anypony trying to stop Starlight’s spread of Geniequestria she counts as this. Though Starlight is quite amicable to those she’s transformed into genies (Particularly her marefriend, Trixie). Partly though because the transformation into genies makes even ponies who were fighting hard against Starlight nearly immediately flip to her side. Cause either there’s something about being a genie that would appeal to them already, or the transformation just felt that good to them.
  • Old Friend, New Gender: Like all other stallions in Geniequestria, Starlight transforms Sunburst into a mare genie.
  • Sealed Evil in a Can: Genie Starlight, naturally
  • Taken for Granite: The Storm King's fate
  • The Evils of Free Will: A rather more complicated case. Starlight has kind of learned from her original equality plan in respecting everypony’s individual talents more then she used to, however regardless if a pony is willing or unwilling to be a genie… it does not matter to Starlight. Part of it because even the most unwilling give in while they’re being genified. Adding to the complication, becoming a genie DOES actually make those afflicted as happy as can be to the point that even Pinkie Pie can’t tell that they’re faking happiness as opposed to how she could tell something was wrong with the smiles from The Cutie Map. To make matters worse for Twilight and the elements, freeing them with the Elements of Harmony makes them freak out and immediately seek to wish to be a genie again. As they learn the hard way when they free Sugar Belle for a brief moment.
  • Utopia Justifies the Means: Naturally, since this was a goal of the evil Starlight even before she was genified.
  • Villain Protagonist: Once Starlight’s out of the lamp for the first time, she quickly takes center stage as the real main character of Geniequestria. Though Twilight and/or the rest of the Mane 6 can still get focus chapters about them.
