Awesome / The Secret Return of Alex Mack

Go To

  • Chapters 32-34: Willow gives an early indication of her hacking skills when Alex meets the SRI for the first time. When they try to trace Alex's phone call, they discover that Willow rerouted the signal through, among other things, three satellites, a phone-number anonymizer, and the White House switchboard. And that's just what they could trace.
  • Chapter 53: Alex manages to figure out what Project Galinka is, based solely on bits and pieces of info that Jack's hackers are feeding her. The CIA doesn't even know what the project is, and it was their project.
  • Chapter 55: Hermione manages to figure out pretty much exactly what happened to Hanna over the course of the last few days, having apparently combed through police reports from all over Europe to do so.
  • Hanna, after being shot in the gut, escapes the amusement park, scales a drainpipe to get into a house, fishes around inside herself in an attempt to extract the bullet, sews herself up, gives herself penicillin, and three days later heads back to Finland. She manages to stow away on a freighter, and by the time Terawatt and the SRI catch up, is nearly dead from infection. Despite this, she's almost back to her house (well north of the Arctic Circle) and sufficiently alert to notice and fire on a flying Terawatt.
  • The "Gotham" arc, chapters 97-99, has Bane and Poison Ivy crash a gala. Batman engages them, then the SRI shows up, and everyone gets a chance to shine. Some highlights:
    • Bane opens the fight by throwing a four hundred pound statue at Batman, forcing him to dodge.
    • NYPD officer Sam McCloud sees Bane show up, and immediately draws his weapon on the 7 foot tall pile of muscle.
    • One of Bane's minions manages to effectively throw knives from across the room, incapacitating McCloud.
    • Batman goes after Bane, at which point they end up countering each other's moves until Bane just throws Batman twenty feet.
    • Action Girl's Dynamic Entry: parachuting through a skylight before ditching her parachute and going after Bane yelling "HE IS MINE!!!"
    • 5'6" Action Girl then takes 7' Bane in an impossibly fast martial arts fight.
    • Klar calls in the battle, then proceeds to ninja his way through Bane's backup minions and incapacitate most of them.
    • Poison Ivy manages to briefly stop Action Girl with her vines, only for Hanna to free herself with a little help from Terawatt.
    • Terawatt then teams up with a rather unwilling Batman to infiltrate the Falcone mansion and break up a call-girl ring.
    • Julie Chandler, a call girl Bruce Paine was using to get intel on the call-girl ring, figures out that Bruce Paine is Batman and proves to be a highly perceptive woman who knows a great deal. Meet the new Batgirl, Julie Madison.
  • Charlie McGee's introduction. Alex arrives at the scene of the latest crisis to find an entire base gone. Buildings razed by fire, charred remnants of cars, scores of burned bodies, and then Jack points out that the pyro had burned hot enough to evaporate an entire lake. Ultimate powerhouse, thy name is Charlie.
    • When Alex and Hanna catch up to Charlie, she's cornered by a squad of Shop goons with grenade launchers and an anti-materiel rifle, and she's warning them to back off.
Charlie: Back off! You’d better back off right now! You know what I can do!
  • The Korean DMZ battle. The North Korean side has nine supers, including a guy that can steal powers, as well as a fully armed military batallion. The hero side has four supers and three soldiers. However, they have Terawatt, who drops more than half of the enemy supers by herself. They win the battle without any casualties.
  • Chapter 199. Alex was already hungry and tired after spending most of a day fighting two different factions of super-terrorists without backup, and then one of them launches a nuclear ICBM with the goal of triggering World War III. She somehow finds the energy to ride the missile, divert it into the sea, disassemble the nuclear warheads in mid-flight and bring the fissile material safely to the ground — a continent away from the launch site.
