Awesome / The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp

• Roger Livesey's entire performance is the film's Moment of Awesome. Physically, he had to age from a slim and handsome 30 (he was actually about 36 when they made the film) to a bald and obese 70, and the character changes from being an impetuous and romantic young officer via a rather stuffy middle-aged officer into a crusty but lovable old coot while conveying the sense that, underneath, it's still the same guy - a hopeless romantic prone to falling in love with the same woman over and over again without realising it. Amazing performance.
