Awesome / Storm Front (Dresden Files)

Go To

  • Harry makes an entrance at the mob-owned Varsity by blowing the door off its hinges, melting the jukebox, and exploding every lightbulb in the place.
Dresden: "Little pig, little pig, let me in...."
    • Made even more impressive since Dresden blew the door out towards him so as not to rain splinters on innocent bystanders.
      • That quote sums up Dresden pretty well. The dude is a big bad wolf.
    • Also something of a Moment Of Awesome for Marcone, as he's completely unfazed by Dresden's display.
  • Plus the reason for the above encounter. Harry had twice been jumped and beat up twice by Gimpy, The Mole of Big Bad Victor Sells in Marcone's organization, complete with In the Hood look. The second time, especially when Gimpy cuts off Dresden's hair to use in the ritual the Big Bad uses to murder people, Dresden does not let him off easy. He jumps him right back, beats him, scratches him and does everything possible make him hurt. And then uses the blood obtained to track him to the Varsity.
  • At the Varsity, Harry casually puts up a barrier to block gunfire from an attacker, while Hendricks, The Dragon of Marcone guns him down.
    • Marcone's gets a CMOA / CMOH combo, when he forgives the dead man despite the problems he brought on for his organization.
  • Harry and Murphy are handcuffed and trapped in an elevator. The scorpion talisman has grown to the size of a French car, poisoned Murphy into unconsciousness, and is trying to rip through the roof of the elevator. Harry knows that shooting fire at it would heat up the car too much to survive. So instead Harry pulls air up from the bottom of the shaft causing them to rise 11 stories and crush the scorpion against the ceiling.
    • And then the elevator falls all the way back down to the ground floor, using his shield to absorb the impact, where some very surprised paramedics are waiting.
    • He earlier fended off the creature albeit at a smaller size with nothing but a wooden drawer.
  • We can't forget the fact that Harry channels the power of a fucking thunderstorm to banish a demon. While naked.
    • And before that, he dispels the magical hologram the Big Bad was using to taunt him.
  • Harry going out to find Victor Sells and stop him from using a thunderstorm to murder him, but while he's in Mac's pub he's stopped by Morgan, who claims that he has proof that Harry has been committing the murders. Harry makes to go sit down and talk...then he grabs one of the heavy wooden chairs and beats Morgan into unconsciousness with it. Keep in mind that Morgan is a Lawful Stupid Inspector Javert Knight Templar BFS-carrying wizard parole officer that could have Harry killed at any time.
    • It's worth noting that Morgan came within yards of killing the Red King and almost faced down a reanimated dinosaur and Harry still took him down with relative ease
  • One for both Harry and Jim Butcher, as while the first book was a little rocky, the closing monologue is excellent.
My name is Harry Blackstone Copperfield Dresden. Conjure by it at your own risk. When things are at their darkest, when what goes bump in the night flips on the lights, when there's no one else to help you, give me a call. I'm in the book.
  • Victor Sells is the first of a really long line of badass villains in the Dresden Files. The guy managed to become a powerful warlock almost all by himself. His modus operandi was tapping in the power of nature to use dark magic to explode out peoples' hearts and chests.. Oh, and he also used freaking giant scorpions to waste people. And as is revealed in Changes, it's a downgraded version of a bloodline curse that could kill an entire race if you pumped enough power into it.
    • And he created an aptly named drug to simulate the Sight, aka the Third Eye of wizards. Though muggles who took it tend to Go Mad from the Revelation, from what we've seen untill Battle Ground (2020), he unintentionally created one that was superior to the natural one possessed by wizards, at least apparently in the drug simultaneously creating an Intellectus that gave explained to them everything they saw. Too bad he was evil, no thanks to Nemesis.
  • Morgan's Big Damn Heroes moment in the climax, when he bursts into Victor's Sells house where the climactic confrontation takes place, chops a demonic scorpion in half with his sword, and rescues Harry.
    • He also reported everything that happened, exactly as it was including his mistakes. As Harry said, Morgan was a man of duty, above everything else.
  • Also Harry in the climax, defeating the Big Bad by disabling the control he has over his summoned monsters and throwing him into their midst, practically killing him. An Ideal Hero may Save the Villain, but Harry Blackstone Copperfield Dresden is of the Good Is Not Soft and Good Is Not Nice variety.
    • Also screwing up his spell with a film canister.
  • While they came less and less relevant as the series went on, Harry's PI skills were top notch as usual:
    • He, simply with the information from Toot-Toot that there was pizza delivered to a house during when sexual frivolities were happening, gets some good nuggets out of the delivery boy by tracking down the nearest pizza joint with delivery.
    • He recognises where Linda Randall is by recognising the announcement in the background as O'Hare airport.
  • Susan going Violently Protective Girlfriend and shooting the demon attacking Harry. Sure she was high, but still awesome.
    • While the demon was Immune to Bullets, Susan manages to keep it down for a while with a lucky shot to the eye. While it did no damage, it bothered the creature long enough for Harry and Susan to put some distance between it and get to temporary safety.
  • Harry bluffing the hell away from Bianca the vampire.
    • Also, simply the idea of storing sunlight in a handkerchief.
  • Harry punching Morgan when he gets too uppity in their first meeting in the novel. Sure, Morgan (who has over 100lbs on Harry) effortlessly floors him with the retaliatory blow, but no less awesome for standing up to the Jerkass.
  • Harry fending off animated evil talismans, with a cleaning spell.
