Awesome / Nardwuar the Human Serviette

Go To

To say the least, Nardwuar is unlike any other journalist in Canada (or anywhere, really), and is revered not just for his Cloudcuckoolander nature, but for his incredible research and unshakable interviewing style, which definitely lend themselves to awesome moments.

  • Nardwuar questions then-Prime Minister Jean Chrétien about protestors being maced with pepper spray from earlier that day. An incredibly ballsy question that led to one of Chrétien's most infamous Never Live It Down moments.
  • In 2010, Nard "Stay Hard" Wuar interviewed Snoop Dogg. While Snoop already had some reverence for him, Nardwuar then produced a VHS of Smokefest Vol. 1, a movie Snoop produced in the '90s that later grew so rare that even Snoop couldn't find a copy of it anymore. The reaction doubles as heartwarming, as Snoop seems incredibly moved by the gesture.
  • The N.E.R.D. interview, one of Nardwuar's defining interviews. With every well-thought-out gift he gives and every insightful question, the members of N.E.R.D. get more and more blown away, and Pharrell outright calls it one of the most impressive interviews he's ever had. On the back of this interview, Pharrell returned the favor and got Nardwuar an interview with Jay-Z months later.
  • Henry Rollins is a notoriously tough customer, and in the face of Nardwuar's "character" and constant energy, he quickly gets irritated and tells Nardwuar that he can ask two more questions, and then he's done. Nardwuar responds by giving him all of his questions as a "multiple choice" for Henry, explaining each of his questions in detail. The sheer amount of research and effort Nardwuar put into all of them finally wins Henry over, and he is much more willing to cooperate afterward. Nardwuar wasn't always this fortunate, but earning Henry's respect definitely counts as awesome.
"Well, you know, I think you got a lot of energy, and the fact that you— you put all that together, I got to respect the effort."
  • His interview with Eric Andre is a sight to behold. Eric, an extremely renowned surrealist known for frequently derailing interviews with whatever nonsense he feels like saying, is faced with the equally idiosyncratic interviewing style of Nardwuar. The result is a hilarious struggle for dominance in controlling the pace of the conversation, and a testament to just how persistent Nardwuar is at getting genuine answers out of people, such that many were left considering Nardwuar the unstoppable force to Eric's immovable object.
  • His TED Talk. Even in this more formal setting, Nardwuar's still gonna Nardwuar. The big finish is something you have to see to believe.
