Awesome / Metroid Prime 2: Echoes

Go To

  • The entirety of the game is Creepy Awesome, from the monstrous Ing and Darklings, to the creepy but elegant Luminoth, to the otherworldly environmental designs of the locations in both Light and Dark Aether.
  • The Dark Beam absolutely rips apart Light Aether creatures with its suffocating shadow, and its charge shots can even freeze targets like an evil version of the Ice Beam. Meanwhile, Light Beam pierces targets and leaves Dark Aether beasts burning in iridescent rainbow flames. And then there's the Annihilator Beam; besides having the coolest name of any Beam in the series, its warm mix of black and white energy plus its homing capabilities make it very satisfying to use.
    • The Darkburst and Sunburst Beam Combos are both formidable weapons, being a black hole and a bomb of light respectively. The Annihilator Beam's Combo, however, is another level - the Sonic Boom creates a glassy shattering effect in the very fabric of reality itself and absolutely tears up any enemy it touches.
  • Echoes has some of the best boss fights in the series, from the trio of giant worms Amorbis to the gigantic mechanoid Quadraxis. See the Metroid Awesome Bosses page for more info.
    • Speaking of Quadraxis, his fight intro is one for the Ing. Samus happens upon a giant, intact (but deactivated) Quad robot. Cue several Ing swarming the bot, and then Quadraxis' eyes glowing as the mech struggles back onto its feet, under Ing control.
  • Each encounter with Dark Samus is special in its own way:
    • The first time you find her, she cleverly lures Samus into Dark Aether so she can leave her vulnerable and at the mercy of the Ing. The shot of her destroying the Light Crystal before Samus can even raise her Arm Cannon is quite impressive.
    • The next time you find her she appears on the other side of a gate and laughs at you before leaving, seemingly impressed that Samus survived. Then when you encounter her further into the Agon Space Pirate base, the two have a tense standoff before unintentionally mirroring each other's shots and getting into the battle. And oh is it an amazing battle.
    • Next you find Dark Samus in the Sanctuary Fortress, where you watch her absolutely decimate some Pirates and steal their Phazon from the other side of a window. Once you wrap around to the room she's gone to the elevator, where yet another standoff takes place and the battle begins. Why are elevator boss fights so cool?
    • The final standoff occurs at the very end of the game. Samus has defeated the Emperor Ing and is about to make her escape from the crumbling Dark Aether when suddenly Phazon blocks the exit. She turns around to find Dark Samus, super-charged on Phazon and with translucent skin revealing her truly alien morphology. The two silently stare at each other before raising their cannons simultaneously.
    • In her last moments, Dark Samus limps towards Samus and reaches out her arm, hoping to once again steal Samus' Suit upgrade to regenerate, but stops just short. Her hand inches away from Samus' breastplate, she fades away into dust.
    • But that's not all we'll see of her - the 100% completion cutscenes shows us she is still alive for a sequel.
  • Samus' farewell to the Luminoth is nothing short of epic. After all the Luminoth bow to Samus and show their gratitude for her help, she silently walks away, casually raising her hand to wave goodbye and disappearing from the Great Temple forever.
