- Comedic Sociopathy: The entire scene with Mr. Eddy going for a drive. Running a tailgater off the road and Pistol-Whipping him just so he can give him a lecture about road safety zig-zags between awesome, terrifying and hilarious in a way that can only be described as "Lynchian".
- According to Michael J. Anderson, this was a case of Real Life Writes the Plot, as Lynch wanted to do all those things to someone who tailgated him one day when he was out.
