Awesome / Executive Decision

Go To

  • Travis's Heroic Sacrifice.
  • Grant has a pretty epic Batman Gambit towards the end, when he pretends to be a terrorist using Jean as a "hostage" to get to who he suspects is the sleeper agent on the plane, who is controlling the bomb. He's initially wrong, but he quickly finds the real one and tries to shoot him, misses, and then actually jumps over the freaking seats to stop him.
  • Grant and Baker stopping the fighter planes from shooting them down by flashing morse code with the taillights at the last second, even though by Baker's own admission he's kind of rusty at Morse Code.
  • The Sky Marshal shooting Hassan in the back at the beginning of the final battle, although it didn't kill him.
  • Grant deducing Hassan's real plan just minutes after hearing about the hijacking provides quite the Awesome by Analysis moment.
  • Grant revealing he found the bomb, and the look on Hassan's face when he does. Unfortunately, it then leads to Hassan shooting the pilots.
  • Grant and Jean landing the plane despite his limited experience with small engine planes.
  • All of the soldier's preparations for the raid, such as the cameras they drill through the roof to watch the hijackers throughout the movie.
  • The paralyzed Cappy and the untrained Cahill working together to disarm the bomb, with Cappy watching the process through mirrors and having Cahill serve as his hands.
    • Cappy passing out but, then waking up just in time to keep Cahill from making a crucial mistake by cutting the wrong wire provides an unusually non-action Big Damn Heroes moment.
