"What is a king to a god?" "And what is a god... TO A NON-BELIEVER?!"

One of the darkest arcs in the series? You'd best believe it. But it also includes some of the most awesome feats in the series. After all, when the Darkest Hour arrives, the Z-Fighters will go above and beyond in order to set things right.

As a Moments page, all spoilers are unmarked, as per policy. You Have Been Warned.

     Episodes 47-51

Episode 47

  • Even if it's a tense moment, something must be said about Future Mai's durability: she took a Ki blast from a villain who was specifically aiming to kill, and who's strong enough to overpower Future Trunks at SSJ2, yet her body was completely intact afterward, with not even significant blood loss showing. And more than that, survived despite all appearances for a few episodes. She rivals Chi-Chi, Bulma, and Krillin as one of the toughest purely-human characters, at the least.
    • Similarly, Mai's shotgun, which shot Ki blasts. No doubt Future Bulma's work; the woman was a genius all right.

Episode 48

  • Pilaf explaining how to solve a simple math problem with over-the-top scenarios and analysis that even excites the teacher. Doubles as a funny moment.
  • Future Trunks vs Goku Black. Despite losing, Trunks manages to use his sword to block and blow Black's Sphere of Destruction, then go all out Dragon Ball attacking him for a while. And he still managed to escape to the past despite being injured.

Episode 49

  • We get to finally see how the Buu Saga went out in Future Trunks' timeline... and he didn't mess around at all. He got some tips from the Kaioshin, and fought Babidi and Dabura straight-on. Trunks had a hard time at first, with Dabura even turning his sword to stone, but Trunks got a Heroic Second Wind and turned the tide of battle, obliterating both Dabura and Babidi, meaning that Majin Buu never woke up in that timeline.
    • Even better in the Manga timeline? While it's offscreen, he also killed both Pui Pui and Yakon as well, meaning Trunks killed Babidi's entire group single-handedly.
  • In a mixture of awesome and heartwarming, Future Trunks can now truly turn Super Saiyan 2. His mentor would be so proud of him.
  • When Goku and Trunks' energy begins causing havoc throughout the city, Bulma nonchalantly makes an energy shield around the two SSJ2's, and it contains their combined energy completely. It broke when Trunks collided with Goku's SSJ3 form, but even still, that barrier had a hella lot of power for something human-made.
  • Goku blocking Trunks' sword with just 2 fingers from each hand, and it's not even blocking; he caught it mid-swing.
  • Whis is actually impressed that Future Bulma managed to invent time travel, having considered it beyond human ability. It's a pretty big compliment coming from a god. At the same time, this is a Downplayed example to him because mortals messing around with time is a sin, since they can screw up the timeline and cause unintended consequences.

Episode 50

  • Goku vs Goku Black. It includes stunts like Goku catching Goku Black's punch by scissoring his arm with his legs.
  • Bulma gets one for saving the day after Black destroys Trunks' time machine. How? By remembering that Cell came back in one as well and breaking it out of storage!

Episode 51

  • Future Mai and the other humans attempted to kill Black by luring him into an empty city, then collapsing it on top of him with strategically-placed explosive charges. Granted it didn't work, but you got to give them credit for effort.
  • When Black was about to kill Future Trunks, Future Mai blinded him with a flashbang and then ran up and carried Future Trunks to safety, right out from under Black's nose.

     Episodes 52-56
Episode 52
  • Pan demonstrating that even as a baby, she's strong. Just playing with Trunks caused her to destroy the room they are in, and he's actually struggling a bit to keep Pan from stealing his sword - admittedly he's trying not to hurt Pan by pulling too hard, yet still.

Episode 53

  • The introduction of Zamasu, a Kai from Universe 10 who is known as a prodigy among his peers and is training to become a "Supreme Kai". His power rivals that of Goku at Super Saiyan 2... after Goku learned to retain his godly powers, for all his transformations. It's implied that Zamasu hasn't really tried during their battle since he wasn't expecting a human to be this strong, and Goku himself stated that given enough time and effort, Zamasu could have power equal to Beerus.
    • Beerus warns Zamasu right from the beginning not to hold back, or he'll die. Both Gowasu and Zamasu were shocked when they heard this.
    • Gowasu gets an even bigger shock when Beerus tells him casually that he fought with Goku. He clearly did not expect to see a mortal who could fight the God of Destruction and live to tell the tale. After seeing Goku fight, he declares that Goku's power rivals those of the God of Destruction and Goku is only a Super Saiyan 2.

Episode 54

  • Pilaf takes a look to the Emergency Reboot Program of the time machine, declares it boring... And goes on to make improvements that leave Bulma almost speechless. Nice reminder that, for all his personality quirks, Pilaf is one of Earth's leading scientific minds.
  • Future Trunks sparring with Vegeta, who of course isn't holding back as a SSJB - even with the huge power gap, Trunks puts up a pretty good effort, all things considered. First Trunks goes from SSJ2 to Super Saiyan Third Grade note , disappointing Vegeta who moves in for a heavy blow, but then Trunks instantly reverts it, moving fast enough to dodge Vegeta's punch and return fire. Vegeta soon recovers and lands his own blows, but it takes at least a dozen before Trunks is knocked out of his form, and even then he's well enough to stand - then to add icing on the cake, Trunks wins Vegeta's 'land a blow on me' challenge by headbutting him when he least expected it.

Episode 55

  • Goku manages to make friends with Zen'o. He even gives Goku a button so he can summon him at any time. That's right, Goku got the King of the Multiverse on speed dial.
  • The High Priest that lives at Zen'o's castle is said to have one of the 5 highest battle powers in all universes, and Whis says that not even he could measure up to him. For a frame of reference, none of the opponents Goku and Vegeta have faced after Beerus have been quite as strong as Beerus, with Hit and Golden Frieza (the two strongest so far) still falling a step or two behind him. Beerus is hardly half as as strong as Whis, and Whis in turn falls well behind this guy, his father, who in turn has at most four people above him (and in the manga, is the strongest of those five). It's a huge multiverse, folks.

Episode 56

  • You have to give respect to Mai for attacking Black with a rocket launcher, shouting that Trunks is getting help in the past and that the resistance needs to stand its ground.
    • The resistance in general deserves a mention. Mai and her soldiers know that they have no chance against Black. They know that they are outmatched and will probably die. But they keep fighting, just to buy enough time to the escaping civilians. Gotta admire their courage. And when they start to hesitate, it only takes a brief Rousing Speech from Mai to have them back holding the line. Scenes like show that even normal humans can have their own Moment of Awesome in Dragon Ball.
  • The battle between Vegeta and Black is finally shown. Vegeta gets a good showing by going SSGSS and plowing Black through several buildings, before beating him into a hole in the ground. Then Black shrugs it off and kicks Vegeta so hard that he sent him flying, though he was overall fine. Afterwards, he unveils Super Saiyan Rosé and, after catching Vegeta by surprise, stabbing him with an energy blade.
    • The Super Saiyan Rose transformation itself. Black's rising scream, his dark aura, the earthquake and lightning generated by his sheer power, and finally the epic music playing in the background all the while make this one of the most stunning and chilling power-ups in Super yet.
    • To give props to Vegeta, he caught Super Saiyan Rosé Black's punch, catching him by surprise and then nails him with a series of punches.
    • Before then, Black appeared before Vegeta, puts his fingers to his throat like a gun, and compliments him for coming this far. Black could have killed Vegeta at that moment; he was that fast even before transforming. Keep in mind, Black was originally as strong as Super Saiyan 3 Goku at his maximum limits. Now, he can stand up against a Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan.
    • Black's general attitude. Despite being sure that he trapped Trunks in the past by destroying the time machine, he's utterly unconcerned when he sees Goku and Vegeta. Instead of fearing Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan, he claps and compliments the warrior race for dressing themselves in godly garbs.
  • After Vegeta falls, Goku enters the fray and despite being only able to slightly harm Black in his SSJR form, he does manage to keep up with him in terms of speed, managing to avoid his Laser Blade and sneaks in quick hits on him while doing so. Ultimately, he manages to fight evenly with him for a considerable amount of time, before Black knocks him on his ass near the end of the episode.
  • Zamasu coming down from the heavens like a deity is both awesome and frightening, as is the shot with Zamasu standing next to Goku Black.

     Episodes 57-61
Episode 57
  • Goku and Future Trunks vs. Goku Black and Future Zamasu. The fight begins with both going after Goku, instigating a giant brawl in the heart of the ruined city. And while Goku is having trouble with the two, it's clear that he is fighting a lot better than before, managing to parry most of their attacks and keeping up with both fighters, to the point that the only way they could make any progress was to take turns holding him down and beating the crap out of him. Trunks meanwhile, takes to the scene and spends a good amount of time tearing Zamasu a new one before being brought down. He even gave his own Shut Up, Hannibal! before that happened.
    • Speaking of Trunks, take one look at what he used on Zamasu - even if he didn't charge it, it's unmistakable.
      Future Trunks: Final Flash!!
  • Vegeta deserves an honorable mention by managing to muster up the strength to destroy the villain's Sphere of Destruction with his own Final Flash, which they were planning to destroy an exhausted Goku and Future Trunks, before collapsing again from his stab wound. It's official: having a hole in his chest won't stop him from saving his friends and family.
  • Just after Vegeta's moment, Goku and Trunks are suddenly gone... only because Yajirobe, the Lovable Coward, risked the battlefield just to save their asses.

Episode 58

  • Goku shows that he can think outside of battles when he follows Whis' train of thought, concluding that Zamasu created Goku Black using the Super Dragon Balls. Everyone's shocked reactions when Whis confirmed this may be the case, is hilarious.
  • An overlooked but equally impressive moment comes after watching the episode when you realize that to have gathered the Super Dragon Balls in the span of a year, Zamasu had to have been traveling at massively faster-than-light speeds, a feat that took Champa and Vados decades to carry out.
    • Or, equally impressive, he did the same thing that Vados and Champa did and just used the Time Rings to set up all the Super Dragonballs into a one-year time period. The determination to do this not just once, but twice is impressive.

Episode 59

  • In a rare moment of pro-activeness, Beerus decides to actually deal with a problem himself with an entirely no-nonsense approach. When Zamasu tries to kill Gowasu, Whis rewinds time to stop it, then the group confront him. After Zamasu tries to kill Goku, Beerus stops him cold before simply saying the word "Hakai" (meaning "Destroy")... and just like that, Zamasu's body and soul are atomized.
    • All the while, "Beerus' Madness" is playing, and became iconic for use in the scene.
    • The fact that the dub kept the word "Hakai" just makes it even more awesome. Kōichi Yamadera and Jason Douglas both give chilling performances when saying it.
    • Credit to Zamasu as well. Despite knowing Beerus is going to kill him, he doesn't beg for mercy at all, which is what most DBZ villains would do when faced with death. He simply levels a Death Glare at Beerus, even while screaming in utter agony. That takes balls.

Episode 60

  • Zamasu switched bodies with Goku and then killed him. It might not look that impressive, until you remember it isn't the first time someone switched bodies with Goku because he was stronger. And both times, he only was stronger when using certain techniques, and he also found out the weakness in that technique, and managed to exploit it. So it means that either Zamasu has been much more insightful about it than Ginyu, or that he picked a fight in which he was actually at a disadvantage and still won.

Episode 61

  • While it didn't help much in the long term, Goku's intense rage boost against Black and Future Zamasu. When informed by both about Black's origins, he gets mad at Black, originally Present Zamasu, for swapping his body (from another timeline Goku) with his, but what really set him off was that he was murdered in Zamasu's body by Black (using Goku's original body) in front of Chi-Chi and Goten, who then targeted and murdered them as well in cold blood. This resulted in possibly the angriest reaction Goku has ever shown in Super so far, similar to Vegeta's Tranquil Fury earlier, and it allowed him to deliver a momentary ass whooping to Future Zamasu and Black.
Goku: You took my body...you took my life...then you even killed Chi-Chi and Goten. You're going to regret telling me that, Zamasu. Cause now I'm mad. I'm really, really mad. And now it's time...TO PAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!!! [later] HERE'S WHAT I THINK OF YOUR IMMORTALITY!!!
    • Credit to Black as well. He takes Goku's entire Papa Wolf rampage in stride, and then when it looks like he's beaten...he Punch Catches Goku's next hit, and then completely turns the fight around with that ever-present smirk on his face before delivering a combo that sends Goku to the ground out of SSGSS and barely conscious. Keep in mind, when the heroes go into Tranquil Fury it usually means a well-deserved beatdown is on the horizon, but Black is one of the few to completely turn it around. Terrifying, but awesome.
  • Future Trunks' rage boost puts Goku's to shame, almost. After being lectured by the duo about how he's "sinned" for time traveling and is the culprit for everything wrong that's happened in his timeline, he takes on Black alone, but is initially taken down. On the ground, weak and at his limit, Trunks' deep-seated rage finally explodes outward as he reaches a new level of power. When he emerges from the pillar of light, his footsteps make the ground shake with every step, his whole body is encased in a dual blue-and-yellow aura, and he sets his glowing Death Glare on Black.
Future Trunks: Black...! This ends... right now. I'M GONNA KILL YOU MYSELF!!!!
    • Trunks' declaration alone counts, showing just how he intends to end this fight. Ever since he first showed up, Trunks has been saddled with deep-rooted guilt. note  But this? This is the final goddamned straw. He will not let these arrogant genocidal sociopaths talk down to him, and he won't let them tell him the world's end is all his fault. Screw his "sin", and screw the gods, he's had enough of this.
  • Vegeta calls out Black and Future Zamasu on being major Hypocrites, having berated Trunks for his time travel to save innocent lives, while they themselves murdered countless mortals and gods for their 'perfect world'.
Vegeta: Do you believe your own lies, all this lofty crap!? You can't build utopia by hunting down people! Even gods!

"You will NEVER crush our will to live!"
Episode 62
  • Trunks' new form is finally put to use, and it's awesome incarnate. He tries it against Goku Black and actually finds himself able to meaningfully harm him at last. In fact, he's going toe-to-toe with him and actually keeping up, maintaining the advantage even when Black enhances his strength mid-battle once again. His act culminates by taking a Sphere of Destruction meant to kill him from both Future Zamasu and Goku Black, and tossing it away. And if you look at their faces, they actually look terrified for once, even if it's just for a moment.
    • Trunks made Black bleed. Not Goku, not Vegeta, not Beerus, Trunks was the one to finally make Black bleed. Bonus points for doing so with a similar attack to the one he killed Future 18 with.
    • Regarding his new form, after Trunks' body finally adapts to the change, he gets cyan pupils to go with his inner aura, which along with his asskicking just hammers further that he's now finally gone to God-tier.
    • Another notable moment: Trunks again breaks out the Masenko.
  • Bulma gets one for intimidating Beerus of all people.
  • And the list of things Toriyama's bringing back from old sagas continues when Piccolo suggests using the Mafuuba/Evil Containment Wave in order to contain Future Zamasu. That's right: the very same technique that contained his own father.

Episode 63

  • Vegeta's training in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber culminates with him destroying (part of) Kami's Lookout, from the inside of said room. That same chamber is basically boundless, an entirely separate dimension connected only by a doorway... and he still managed to destroy it. Not even the three-year training from the Champa Saga got any special reaction, including for Goku's Dangerous Forbidden Technique training - Vegeta managed a lot more here by himself.
  • You've got to give Mai props: she tries to snipe Black in the face while he's drinking tea at his cottage, despite knowing it's a long shot at best.
    • One for Future Bulma, who made the bullet: Black feels it, and goes flat on his ass. Didn't do anything more, not even a scratch, but even a single knock-down...
  • Trunks get another one: sending Black Goku flying far into the distance and managing to knock him out for a few moments, melting off the top of a mountain in the process. His attack that did so?
Future Trunks: Now take this!! Galick Gun!!
  • Two in rapid succession. When Goku, Vegeta, and Bulma return to the future, Goku Black wastes no time in blowing up their time machine, again earning his No-Nonsense Nemesis status. When he and Future Zamasu try to intimidate the heroes, however...
Goku Black: There will be no more retreating.
Future Zamasu: Now you're trapped here, so this world will be the last you ever see.
Vegeta: For a god, you're surprisingly confused. This isn't going to be our final resting place; it's going to be yours. We were even going to bring you a casket, but we couldn't find one small enough.
  • It also seems that Goku and Vegeta have got wise to the tactics of Goku Black and Future Zamasu, and are now evening the playing field by using the same tactic against them to brilliant effect. Goku takes on Future Zamasu and is outright curb-stomping him, while Vegeta fights Goku Black. And naturally, when Future Zamasu tries to gang up on Vegeta, Goku butts in and slams him into the street below.
  • Vegeta gets another moment at the end of the episode where he gets some much-needed revenge against Goku Black. Vegeta had the advantage throughout the entire fight and also gives Goku Black a spectacular "The Reason You Suck" Speech while beating him senseless.
Vegeta: You want to know what your big mistake was, Black?
    Black: What mistake!?
Vegeta: It's that stolen body! Every muscle, every cell; his body was built from a lifetime of intense battles! But you took it! It's all secondhand! You feel the power in those Saiyan cells, but you don't truly understand it because you didn't build it, and you'll never learn to think like that clown!
Black: How can there be such a huge power gap between us...?
Vegeta: That's simple. You're an interloper, a Saiyan impostor. And I'm the real thing, the almighty Prince Vegeta!!
    • Just to gather in a little detail, Goku Black is his usual cocky self, thinking that Vegeta is still nothing but a waste of space, but as the blows carry on, it becomes obvious that Vegeta is now the better of the two to a dramatic degree. Even as Black tries to regain the advantage via his Adaptive Ability, Vegeta either tanks it or outright shuts it down before it even makes contact, eventually planting his face into the concrete before giving him a No-Holds-Barred Beatdown that dwarfs all that came before, culminating it with a punch that disintegrates the skyscraper they landed in to nothing more than a few dust fragments. When he finally gives Goku Black a chance to stand up, he looks like he's about to collapse again and Vegeta is none the worse for wear. The truly golden moment being Vegeta grabbing him by the hair and just glowering hatefully into the former Kai's face before nutting him back into the pavement.
    • To Black's credit, throughout the entire beat down and Vegeta's "The Reason You Suck" Speech, he's more annoyed about the situation then scared or even angry. Usually when the villain is overwhelmed to this degree, there is some degree of a Villainous Breakdown. Considering he's Present Zamasu, who gave a Death Glare to Beerus even as he was dying, it's not entirely surprising.
  • Having seen how Goku and Vegeta twice lost because the villains were pragmatic in their fights, Bulma came fully prepared in her own way for the third battle. She brought her own personal garage in a capsule, with enough supplies/tech to fix not only the broken urn to contain Future Zamasu, but the Time Machine as well, just in case something happened to them - all while Goku and Vegeta are fighting, as expected. And this payed off big time later on, because if Bulma hadn't come prepared, she and the others would've been stuck at ground zero with no hope of escape...

Episode 64

  • After being kicked around by Vegeta and overpowered, Goku Black laughs and says that he now understands where mortals get their strength; their anger. He calls it primitive, disgusting, and only something mortals would think of, but he decides to uses his own anger and hate toward mortals and gods and losing to a mortal to fuel his new power-up. He then processes to stab himself through his own hand and take out a giant scythe that is a big as his body, which he uses to cut a hole between dimensions. It's so awesome that Black himself doesn't know what he did. He then spends the rest of the episode sending clones of himself to attack Goku and Vegeta, and dares them to become stronger through their anger.
Goku Black: Now I've figured it out. The reason for that runaway growth in your power level compared to my own. It's anger, isn't it? Watching us hurt your son made you angry which made you stronger. So that's how Saiyans' strength works. How primal. Turning your fleeting raw emotions into power! Only a pathetic mortal like yourself could thrive on a tactic that unrefined, which explains why it took so long to realize it. But if that's what fuels this body, I shall use my anger! Anger toward the mortals who defile the universe. Anger toward the other gods who have tolerated such behavior. And most importantly, the white hot rage I now feel toward myself for letting you get the upper hand on me in our battle.
  • Trunks manages to both learn the Mafuba/Evil Containment Wave, with help of a video from Bulma showing Piccolo doing such, and then proceeds to use it to excellent effect against Future Zamasu - he would have stayed in that urn too if Goku didn't forget the talisman. It also drove Future Zamasu to a Villainous Breakdown as well, and when he escaped he was noticeably shaken.
    • Even as they're doing their parts, Trunks and Mai proceed to verbally tear Future Zamasu a new one, combining Badass Boast with Shut Up, Hannibal!.
Future Zamasu: WHAT IS THIS TECHNIQUE?!
Trunks: I said you'd pay Zamasu! And now you've been introduced to the true power of mortals!
Future Zamasu: The power of mortals!? Is that a joke!? I'll show you what happens when worthless beings speak down to a god!!
Mai: How can we be worthless if we've got you trapped!? You have no idea what we can accomplish!
Trunks: That's right! You underestimate mortals, you pay the price!
      Trunks/Mai: So say goodbye!!
Future Zamasu: NO! THAT'S IMPOSSIBLE!!!! IT CAN'T END THIS WAY!!!! I'M AN INVINCIBLE EVERLASTING GOD!!!! NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!
    • Even more impressive, Trunks manages to learn the Evil Containment Wave in minutes, when it took Goku half a day to learn to properly aim it. Granted, Trunks had Mai to help him get Future Zamasu into the pot and Trunks was fueled with righteous anger, but it's still a major accomplishment.
  • On a more funnier but still quite awesome light, Bulma stalling for time against Future Zamasu by trying to seduce him. It sadly didn't work, but she came pretty damn close despite being so scared doing it.
    • The seduction attempt, after Zamasu was sealed by the Mafuba, seems to have been part of Bulma's plan to motivate Trunks enough to wield the Mafuba, as her following words indicate. Bulma is no fool, she knew that wouldn't work on Zamasu, but she had to bait him into turning his anger on her to give her son the boost of rage he needed. After the Mafuba seems to work, she openly admits she was scared witless doing as she did. She may have been scared beyond belief, but you read that right: Bulma pulled a Batman Gambit in her son's favor, playing on Zamasu's low opinion of mortals, while being face-to-face with a murderous no-nonsense immortal god.
  • Since this marks the end of Goku Black as an individual character, you have to give props to him as a villain. He is one of the only villains in the franchise (save for Present Zamasu and Kid Buu) not to suffer a Villainous Breakdown even as Vegeta was pounding him into the ground. Even him agreeing to fuse with Future Zamasu was done because he was finished screwing around and not out of desperation like many fans speculated. To the very end, he kept his cocky, self-assured demeanor. Even crazier, Goku Black is technically undefeated. His first match with Goku was cut short because he was sucked back into the time portal (and he had a case of Worf Had the Flu to boot) and Vegeta, despite pounding him, never actually beat him.
  • The birth of Merged Zamasu for a villainous moment. It's only fitting for the fusion of Black and Future Zamasu to be born basked in holy light as he gives a speech about how he is the most beautiful and powerful immortal god.
Merged Zamasu: My form is justice. And my form is the world. Worship me! Give praise unto me. Me, the beautiful, the sublime. Me the invincible, the almighty and divine... All hail Zamasu.

Episode 65

  • One of Merged Zamasu's first actions after forming is to stomp Goku and Vegeta into the dirt, hard enough that they can barely move, then forming a giant bird made of pure energy to oversee the landscape, devastating the planet with its attacks.
    • At first, Goku and Vegeta are caught off-guard by the speed/strength of the attack. Then they get back up anyway, flying toward Merged Zamasu, take another same attack... and No-Sell it, much to Zamasu's shock. Even if they're later overpowered, that's quite the feat considering their opponent's power.
Vegeta: Oh shut up! You should know by now that Saiyans don't do limits!
Goku: Let's charge together at full power!
  • Future Trunks gets in on the action and starts swordfighting Zamasu, actually managing to parry his Sword Beam attacks despite him being the more powerful combatant.
  • Trunks counters Zamasu's Holy Wrath with Galick Gun in a powerful beam struggle, vowing to never give up even as he's being overpowered... then enter Vegeta, having forced himself off the ground to help his son, injuries be damned. Together, the two unleash a Father-Son Galick Gun against Zamasu's Holy Wrath, and after a bit of difficulty manage to throw the energy ball back in his face - this causes Zamasu to have a Villainous Breakdown on the spot.
    • While charging up his Galick Gun, Vegeta tells Zamasu not to underestimate the power of mortals, and especially not that of Saiyans like them. This from the same guy who once looked down on many mortals himself, including Goku, and very much desired immortality - and moreover, he's using his first signature attack to protect the Earth, rather than destroy.
    • When Merged Zamasu turns his anger on the father-son duo, Vegeta instantly puts himself between them to stop Zamasu from killing Trunks.
  • After said incident, Merged Zamasu turns his rage on Goku next, ranting at him in an utter fury, and what does Goku do? He delivers a scathing retort and starts charging up the mother of all Kamehameha waves while Zamasu charges up another Holy Wrath, before letting loose with perhaps the second-most epic Beam-O-War in the entire series, where Goku, despite being at a massive disadvantage, battles him to a standstill before it all fades to white.
    • Forget standstill. The last few seconds show the Kamehameha pushing back Zamasu's Holy Wrath! Goku basically just accomplished the feat that took both Trunks and Vegeta to do by himself, through sheer rage.
Merged Zamasu: YOU WILL NEVER BEST ME, YOU FILTHY MORTAL!!!
      Goku: YOU WON'T BEAT ME!!!
  • The preview for Episode 66. For one glorious reason: Super Saiyan Blue Vegito. What's more, it seems he may actually have to get serious this time around.

Episode 66

  • Goku wins his Beam-O-War with Zamasu, penetrating through his Sphere of Destruction and disfiguring the right side of his face. Then as Zamasu is still recoiling from it, he proceeds to take the opportunity to beat the ever-loving shit out of him with both of his arms disabled from winning the Beam-O-War. Then as Zamasu breaks his leg, Goku pushes through the pain and whips out his ace-in-the-hole unused since the fight against Hit, Super Saiyan Blue Kaioken, and with one kick with his good leg, decks Zamasu into the street. The same blow breaks his Holy Halo.
  • Even though his fusion eventually fizzles out, Vegito joins the fray and instigates a massive no-holds barred battle through the streets, where he manages to fight evenly with Zamasu, countering his attacks with relative ease and matching him blow for blow. Even Zamasu making himself bigger only gives him the advantage for a few seconds, at which point he actually seemed to be losing.
    • The awesome starts even before the beatdown - Vegito's yell as he transforms is something that isn't really possible to convey in text, but here's an attempt:
Vegito: We're a merged fighter, a combination of Vegeta and Kakarot: Vegito! And here's something new:
      (power up fist-clench)
      Vegito: VEGITO!! BLUUUEEEEEEE!!!
    • Vegito catching Merged Zamasu monologuing. Immediately followed by him throwing down the gauntlet:
Vegito: Sorry to be rude, but you left yourself completely open. Now come on and give me your best shot. I'm tired of listening to you preach. If you want me bowed at your feet, you'll have to do it by force!
Zamasu: I don't need your prostrations, mortal. I JUST NEED YOU DEAD!!
    • During the initial skirmish, Vegito has this to say when he pins Merged Zamasu to the ground:
Vegito: Aw, what's the matter? Your divine power's not looking so wondrous now!
    • Then, after getting knocked down by Merged Zamasu, who then goes in for the kill with his Laser Blade, Vegito stabs him through the chest with his own version of it, which is longer.
    • Also, Vegito utilizing the Final Kamehameha, a technique that, up until now, had only appeared in the video games.
    • It's also one for Merged Zamasu being the first opponent to give Vegito an actual battle - the last time Vegito came into existence, Super Buu at his absolute most powerful could barely make him sweat. The fact that Vegito is leagues stronger now and yet Zamasu still had a much better chance of victory just cements how powerful he really is. Case-in-point, immediately after Vegito announces his name, he goes straight to Super Saiyan Blue, and for the opening stretch of their fight they were fighting evenly.
    • It's a testament to how broken Vegito is in that he only appears for 10 minutes before his immense power made the fusion burn out even faster than last time. If it hadn't ended prematurely, he undoubtedly would've killed Zamasu.
      • Vegito really is a Master of All when it comes to fighting - He's got power, speed, the ability to adapt his fighting style on the fly, experience from two lifetimes of fighting, and a slew of ki-attacks for every conceivable situation. If you go Mighty Glacier, he'll go Fragile Speedster. Try to wear him down through talking? He'll tell you to Talk to the Fist. Sword Fight? His is longer. You have Complete Immortality? Well, he'll just use you as a punching bag until his time is up, and trust us when we say that while your body might endure, your spirit won't.
    • Even more impressive is that the scene where they directly clash, fist to fist, trying to push against each other, heavily implies that Merged Zamasu is the stronger of the two. Zamasu overpowers Vegito and lands his best blow of the battle the only time it comes to a straight clash, knocking Vegito out for a few seconds and nearly winning the fight. But Vegito still came back and had him on the ropes before defusing, which just goes to show what an amazing fighter he really is, segueing into...
    • Vegito's final words to Merged Zamasu before his untimely de-fusion:
Merged Zamasu: Behold my perfect divinity!
      Vegito: BE PERFECT IN HELL!!!
  • Future Trunks then steps in after Merged Zamasu KO's a defused Goku and Vegeta, going in and sword-fighting Zamasu to a standstill, having upgraded his broken sword with a nice Laser Blade upgrade. The fight that ensues is like something out of the final battle in a Dragon Quest game, with Trunks playing the part of the hero, and Zamasu the part of the evil demon lord. The battle culminates with Goku, Vegeta, and the surviving dregs of humanity helping Future Trunks, instinctively lending him their power in a manner not unlike a Spirit Bomb, which, when absorbed, consequently turns Trunks' aura completely cyan, and heralded by the Angelic Choir of "Birth of a God" transforms his broken blade into a Radiant Sword literally Made of the Majestic Light of Hope itself as he clashes with Zamasu. The battle reaches its conclusion when Trunks takes this Laser Blade BFS and impales Zamasu from the bottom up, before cleaving the mad god in half.
    • That Trunks was able to, entirely by accident, recreate the Spirit Bomb technique, is awesome in itself. If you think about it, this and Kaioken are exclusive to Goku, the savior of the Earth and probably the universe. Trunks using this technique is like him finally taking up Goku's mantle as the true savior of his timeline.
    • And fittingly, the last things Trunks says to Zamasu before finishing him off is to effectively call him out on what he really is, along with shut the hell up after yet another self-important Motive Rant, in that order.
Zamasu: NO! YOU'RE A MERE MORTAL!!!
Trunks: It's not about gods and mortals! You don't believe in anything but yourself, and we won't let you win! ... This is the power of mortals! The power of believing in something bigger than just you!
Zamasu: INSOLENCE!!!! HOW DARE YOU STRIKE A GOD AND RETALIATE AGAINST JUSTICE!!!!

Episode 67

  • A villainous example: Even after being defeated at the hands of Future Trunks, Zamasu's spirit not only lives on, but his sheer rage and madness was enough to BECOME ONE WITH THE MULTIVERSE ITSELF. Then he proceeds to kill all the mortals in the multiverse at once, save for Goku, Vegeta, Bulma, Future Trunks, Future Mai, and the Supreme Kais. Just to clarify: his control over the future multiverse was also so powerful, it reverberates back to the present timeline, where everyone else can see its influence.
    • Goku, Trunks and Vegeta combining a Kamehameha, a Galick Gun, and a Final Flash into one singular attack is awesome which makes it more awesome for Eldritch Abomination Zamasu when he isn't fazed by it in the slightest.
    • Following this, however, we finally get to see Zen'o's multiverse-destroying power in action. Pretty badass to see the Dragon Ball universe's Top God prove his power isn't an Informed Ability, and showcase just how much above everyone he truly is by effortlessly destroying the Zamasu-corrupted multiverse in seconds, despite the latter's immortality. Everyone else has no choice but to flee to the main timeline ASAP.
    • The above action by Zen'o just shows how powerful Merged Zamasu truly became. After all, Zamasu truly and thoroughly won, and could have actually killed all the main characters without breaking a sweat, had he retained his sanity. The fact that it took the Top God of the multiverse, and NO ONE ELSE, to actually obliterate Merged Zamasu and the entire timeline, is actually pretty commendable. To say that Whis took special precautions for Zamasu to not emerge again, essentially making Goku Black Ret-Gone, just shows how exactly he is the most powerful villain of the franchise.
    • It's similiarly awesome in the manga, where instead of trying to become the universe, we instead get multiple Zamasus that threaten to follow our heroes into other times. When all seems bleak, Goku remembers the button and summons Zen'o to deal with them. Before everything is completely erased, we finally get to see the most satisfying look of terror on Zamasu's face as his army, along with the future timeline, is completely obliterated in a blinding flash of light. Even Zamasu himself fears the King of All, immortality be damned.
