Unlike Diablo II or particularly Diablo III, you are basically a human skilled in melee, ranged weapons or magic, and you fight your way through the church basements and catacombs, designed to hold an ancient evil, caves filled with horrible monsters and finally, hell itself, or a reasonable facsimile warped to the location to kill the aforementioned (albeit weakened) ancient evil.
