Awesome / Battlefleet Gothic: Armada 2

Go To

  • The prologue of the game alone is full of awesome moments as it narrates the entirety of Abaddon's 13th Black Crusade, but with an emphasis on the epic space battles:
    • Learning about the oncoming Black Legion fleet, Wolf Lord Sven Bloodhowl of the Space Wolves immediately set sails aboard a lone Battle Barge to buy the forces of Cadia some time to repair their planetary shield. The Battle Barge cuts through the vanguard of the fleet and when the Blackstone Fortress Will of Eternity appears before them, Bloodhowl tells the crew to fight to the death, just as he and his Space Marines board the Blackstone Fortress, knowing that they are going toward certain death but bound by duty to sacrifice themselves. It doesn't seem to do much but it's the spirit that counts.
    • Oh and the crewmen on the Battle Barge, they also fight to the death until their ship is brought down.
    • The Battle above Cadia really showcases how epic the game will be as you are given command of The Phalanx itself, the gigantic battle station of the Imperial Fists commanded by 3rd Company Captain Tor Garadon, cutting through the enemy fleet, swathing aside the ships trying to ram you, and confronting the Blackstone Fortress in an epic duel.
Tor Garadon: The Sons of Dorn are too stubborn to die. Why should his Regal Daughter prove different? Gaze on the Black Fortress's death, commodore. Gaze, and rejoice for service fulfilled.
    • An Offscreen Moment of Awesome occurs when the shields of the Will of Eternity suddenly go down. Yes, the Space Wolves have survived in the belly of the ship for several days until they have fought their way down the generator and destroy it! The end of Sven Bloodhowl's saga would be the stuff of legends if anyone was here to record it, alas the Space Wolves willingly sacrifice themselves and go down with the Blackstone Fortress as The Phalanx blasts it apart or rams it to oblivion.
    • In the late stages of the Battle of Cadia, the Necron Pylons on the Elysian Fields activate, with sickly green rays of light converging a la Death Star to repel the freakin' Eye of Terror, demonstrating again that the Necrons are the most advanced race in the universe with the technology to shape the galaxy itself.
    • The Vengeful Spirit gets to briefly showcase its might against a flotilla of Imperial cruisers, destroying in one salvo all but one of six ships, the last of them being heavily damaged while the Gloriana-Class Battleship itself is unscathed.
    • Then several Chaos warships begin to converge on the hull of the Blackstone Fortress, going at full speed to ram the entire thing to slowly but surely launch it into Cadia itself! The forces of Chaos lose the battle, but ultimately win the 13th Black Crusade!
  • The Imperium introduction. Spire has been lost in the warp for centuries, and when he returns, he finds the galaxy in chaos. Cadia is destroyed, the Ruinous Powers are running rampant, and the Cicatrix Maledictum has split the Imperium in two. Without even a moment's hesitation, he orders his crew to set a course for Cadia, broadcasting a message to all Imperial ships to rally to him. He may have missed a millennia of war, but he will be damned before he gives up.
Such travails would have driven an ordinary man to madness, or into the clutches of the very gods he sought to oppose, but Spire is no ordinary man
  • The campaigns at least will truly honour the diversity of ships in the franchise by allowing the players to play some of the most powerful ships in history, beginning with the Phalanx, but also the Gloriana-Class Battleships of the Imperium such as Macragge's Honour. Likewise, you will be able to battle ships such as The Vengeful Spirit, flagship of Abaddon the Despoiler and the site of Sanguinius' death and the Emperor and Horus Lupercal's fateful duel. Finally, it is revealed that at least one Craftworld, a Tyranid bop-ship big enough to munch one cruiser whole, the Silver Towers of Tzeentch and a Necron World Engine will make an appearance!
  • During the course of the Necron campaign, Amarkun the Gatherer and Zaa of Tomorrow use a C'tan shard to destroy craftworld Os'tara. Do they set it loose onboard? No. They, instead, infect the shard with tachyon-phage (which causes rapid decay, with exponential energy buildup), launch it at the craftworld and escape just in time for the dimensional rift to destroy the Os'tara. They're not even using their gods as a Pokemon anymore - they are using them as bombs.
Amarkun: One fragment of a betrayer finds absolution in oblivion, and delivers us to victory. Most excellent.
  • The Necron ending sees the Dark Throne, a World Engine, unleashed. It pulls a Transformation Sequence like something out of Transformers until it has an enormous necron-pyramid shaped gun-barrel visible. It's target? Nothing less than The Eye Of Terror itself! The pyramid rises like a giant middle finger to the forces of chaos, and closes the damnable thing with a single shot. What's more, it's implied they did it easily.
  • The Tyranid ending shows Hive Fleet Leviathan, having chased down and devoured the whole of the 13th Black Crusade inside the Eye of Terror, emerging untainted from the vortex as literal galaxy-sized tendril descends to devour all life.
  • The Imperium ending is less bombastic than the other two, but no less stirring. Having finally hunted down and slain Warmaster Abaddon, Admiral Spire gives a Rousing Speech about how the Emperor's light shines through humanity, and vows eternal service to the Golden Throne.
  • The Chaos ending features the new Champion of Chaos, Malos Vrykan, flat out calling Warmaster Abaddon an outdated relic to his face and challenging him to a duel.
    "I offer a toast...TO THE WARMASTER!"
  • The climax of the Aeldari plotline in the Imperium Campaign. After bringing down a Thousand Sons fleet and capturing the Spirit Gate, Spire is about to fulfil his end of his bargain with Yvraine. Cue Inquisitor Darkhammer interjecting, demanding the Spirit Gate be handed over to him so that it can be destroyed, endangering the vital Imperium/Ynnari alliance in doing so. From there, the Spire has a choice: either obey the Inquisitor, or tell him where to stick it and keep his word to Yvraine. If he chooses the latter, Darkhammer calmly strips Spire of his rank and takes half of Spire's fleets with him on pain of death to launch an attack on Craftworld Os'tara. Spire proceeds to rally behind the Ynnari for the sake of the alliance, and with command of the Craftworld's Infinity Cannon ceded to him, he brings Darkhammer's madness to an end. SO cathartic after the guff Darkhammer had been giving him throughout the game.
  • Malos Vrykan has his own parallel moment when he deals with Threxos Hellbreed, the Chaos Campaign's own Hate Sink. Threxos pulls rank as a member of Abaddon's Chosen to force Malos into a battle against Spire...and refuses to show up until the end, hoping to steal Malos's victory and eliminate the up and coming Word Bearer in the process. It doesn't go as planned: Spire and the Phalanx both escape, leaving disastrous casualties on Chaos's end. Threxos proclaims his intent to run to Abaddon and blame the whole debacle on Malos, at which point Malos just snaps.
Dark Apostle Arkrist Vane: A bold statement...how do you answer?
Malos: (voice audibly shaking) There...there can only be one reply. Abaddon will learn the truth of this disaster, Hellbreed, but you will not live to face his judgment. You are a fool, Hellbreed, unfit to serve the Ruinous Powers as anything more than an example of wayward pride. I will offer your skull to Khorne myself!
Hellbreed: You dare think to depose me?! I will be your death!
  • Admiral Spire vs Abbadon certainly counts: The Despoiler brings the Vengeful Spirit and four Chaos fleets to battle, only for Spire and his forces to best all four while Abbadon hides behind his minions. Spire proceeds to insult the Despoiler to his face, calling him out on his cowardice and reliance on his subordinates. He then proceeds to defeat the Vengeful Spirit, a super-powerful ship that has proven able to rip entire fleets apart by itself, and blast Abbadon to ashes. The breakdown Abbadon suffers, along with Spire's taunts, seal it.
Spire: (After defeating Abbadon's subordinate fleets) Well, warmaster? You have no more lackeys to send. Will you face me now? Or is a traitor's apostasy only exceeded by his rank cowardice?
Spire: (After heavily damaging Vengeful Spirit) I fear your gods no more than I fear you. Your day is done, Abbadon. The dead of your Black Crusade call out for vengeance, and I shall deliver it to them!
Abbadon: No! This cannot be! I shall not fall to a puppet of the Corpse-Emperor!
