The Novel:

  • Emily Brent shredding Vera's notion that Lombard isn't ''really' a murderer since he only killed Natives.
Emily: "Black or White, they are our brothers."
  • Vera playing Lombard like a fiddle by exploiting his sexism to get his gun from him.
  • At one point Vera and Lombard discuss who they think the killer is.
    • Vera comes up with the excellent argument that Armstrong had a perfect way to commit the third murder while almost getting himself exonerated.
    • Lombard flat out says that Wargrave is the killer, and accurately sums up Wargrave's true mental state.
  • Wargrave's entire plan, which unfolds flawlessly.

The Adaptation:

  • Wargrave's final monologue from the Russian adaptation.
Wargrave: Now, when my duty has been carried out and justice, cleansed of filth, has prevailed, I'm making a step that only the greatest judge is capable of — for the true greatness of the judge lays in the ability to punish oneself.
