We interrupt this program to bring you "Mad Max: Fury Road on the Moon".

Ad Astra is primarily about an astronaut's journey to reunite with his father in the far reaches of the Solar System and it's very character-driven, but that doesn't mean it doesn't pack some spectacle.

  • The film's visuals are as simple as they are beautiful, it's as if its imagery combined that of the decade's best astronaut films (Interstellar, The Martian and Gravity come to mind) while retaining a strong visual identity of its own.
  • Roy's trip on the surface of the Moon. The SpaceCom lunar rover convoy is ambushed by space pirates (also on lunar rovers), with the Moon's physics at play. And despite the heavy losses during the chase, Roy manages to fend them off.
  • Roy getting rid of the crazy man-eating baboons by way of Explosive Decompression.
  • Roy making his way back to the Cepheus using a metal sheet from an antenna to cross the Rings of Neptune.
    • Roy recreating the end of Dark Star...and surviving!
  • The explosion of the Lima Project Space Station is a sight to behold.
