The Future Forest is a 2018 art installation by environmental activist and Danish artist Thomas Dambo.

The installation comprises a series of sculptures made from consumer plastic made into plants, animals, and thousands of other objects that make what is essentially an artificial ecosystem.

The installation was made as part of the FYJA and is currently on display in the Jardín Botánico del Bosque de Chapultepec. in Mexico City, Mexico.

Details and other photos of the place can be found on Dambo's website here.

The Future Forest provides examples of:

  • Alliterative Title: The Future Forest
  • Art Course: The installation is essentially a self-contained biosphere constructed from recycled plastics.
  • Binomium ridiculus: Cocacobra Diabolus is a snake whose body is made of bottle caps and has an amusingly big head. Coca is Spanish for the cocaine plant and diabolus resembles the word for devil (diablo).
  • Crapsaccharine World: As fun and colorful as the installation looks, the various sculptures were constructed to be a warning regarding our increasing supply of disposable junk plastics slowly eroding our environment.
  • Green Aesop: The ecosystem has been replaced with plastic and this is all our fault.
  • Man-Eating Plant: Some of the plants are based on the Venus Flytrap (seen here) with sharp, biting teeth.
  • The Place: As the title indicates, all the sculptures are located in the art installation known as Future Forest.
