Zoids: Wild Zero is the sixth anime series in the Zoids franchise, which aired from 2019-2020.

Sometime in the 21st century, mysterious high tech cubes and a starship crash land on the planet Earth, sparking a geological cataclysm which rearranges the continents and heralding an invasion by aggressive metallic beasts called Zoids. Civilization crumbles in the chaos and most of the Zoids are subducted beneath the earth, turning into fossils. This event would come to be known by future generations as the Zoid Crisis. In the ruins of this post-apocalyptic planet, two factions - the Republic and the Empire - would emerge; excavating, reviving and retrofitting Zoids with cockpits and weapons in order to wage war against each other.

Over 100 years has passed since the Zoid Crisis. Salvage collectors Leo Conrad, Buzz Cunningham and their civilian Lion-type Zoid encounter Sally Land, a girl with blue hair and a golden pendant who is on the run from the Empire. After an altercation between Leo and the Empire, Sally uses her pendant as a last-ditch effort to save him, giving Leo a cybernetic arm and transforming his Zoid into the mighty Beast Liger, allowing them to repel their pursuers.

Out of the goodness of his heart, Leo vows to assist Sally in her quest to activate the regeneration cubes - terraforming devices that should restore the earth - with Buzz reluctantly tagging along. During their quest they're accompanied by the Republican archeologist Jo Aysel and her Zoid Raptoria, battle the Imperial army, and try to prevent the revival of the legendary “Dinosaur of Destruction”.

After the Lighter and Softer approach of Zoids Wild, this next iteration in the franchise is aimed at a slightly older demographic and brings back familiar elements its predecessor eschewed such as the Republic vs. Empire scenario and larger Zoids with cockpits and scifi weaponry. Wild Zero was directed by Takao Kato, who had previously worked on Zoids: Chaotic Century and Zoids: New Century. Much like the latter it contains a number of references to those series, possibly implying they occur in the same continuity if one takes them literally. The lore of Wild Zero's setting is expanded with the prequel book Zoids Wild: EX-Zero, and short stories accompanying some of the model kits in the Zoids Wild: Biographies toyline. It is followed by the seventh Zoids anime, the web-exclusive Zoids Wild: Senki, which takes place long after the end of Wild Zero.
