Majo demo Steady (My Steady Is a Witch or 魔女でもステディ) is a 41 minute-long, Ecchi-comedy OVA released on 5th September 1986.
An ordinary single salaryman named Hisashi Seki (Yūji Mitsuya) wakes up one morning to find a naked, enthusiastically amorous girl in bed despite having no recollection of any one-night stand the night before. She introduces herself as Asami (Miki Takahashi) and claims to be his girlfriend whom Seki is more than happy to take advantage of the situation.
However, having a magical girlfriend is a lot more convoluted than Seki thought as the universe is actively preventing the two from getting together. And things get even more confusing and confusing as the plot progresses...
It has been considered a Spiritual Successor to Twinkle Nora Rock Me! given how they share a key writer and how similar in tone they are, in this case making absolutely no fucking sense. And just like Twinkle Nora Rock Me!, Kenny Lauderdale brought attention to the OVA in 2022 on his YouTube channel and sparked interest in its dubious quality (Though plot-wise than its animation).
Contains the following tropes:
- "Do It Yourself" Theme Tune: Asami's voice actor, Miki Takahashi, sings the intro "Date Morning
", the end-credits and the rest of the soundtrack. - Exact Words: The entity that rules Asami's world agrees to let her join Seki as lovers and return to Earth on the condition "[Their] bodies must melt together and become one". What innuendo turned out to be literal as the entity use their powers to combined the two into a hermaphrodite being for reasons beyond our comprehension.
- Full-Frontal Assault: Seki and his Evil Doppelgänger went into a brawl buck naked since the former was in the middle of having sex with Asami in which the latter simultaneously spawned from. In the end, Seki is victorious once he stabbed his clone in the stomach and slowly bled to death.
- Fusion Dance: The lovers are finally reunited but in a very literal sense when the god-ruler of Asami's world decree that "[Their] bodies must melt together and become one" with The Power of Love. And so Asami and Seki morphed into one humanoid being with the former's pink hair, the latter's face and voice and both their genitalia. To their further dismay, they are unfused in their sleep but re-fused when they have sex which puts a slight damper on their relationship.
- Futuristic Pyramid: Several in Asami's dimension elevating the strangeness of the place with a giant one appearing on Earth as well which still remains there by the end.
- Mirror Universe: Asami comes from a parallel dimension filled with Futuristic Pyramids and everyone's ideal partners of all gender, orientations and species reside but aren't allowed to meet or interact with their soulmates in a twisted form of irony. Also, nobody wears clothes there.
- No Body Left Behind: Seki's Evil Doppelgänger profusely bleeds from his knife wound before slowly disappearing into nothing to the tune of Beethoven with the blood puddle underneath him also gone.
- Non-Indicative Name: Asami isn't a witch like the title suggests so it's more of "My Steady Is A Telekinetic Ideal Soulmate From the Mirror Dimension".
- Power Incontinence: Asami drinking her first cocktail causes her powers to go haywire with all the ice cubes in the bar to become an intense indoor hailstorm and for the bar patrons minus Seki to transform into reptilian-like beasts.
- Red/Green Contrast: As seen above, the cover art on the VHS tape sleeve depicts Asami painted entirely in red with green highlights over a white background.
- Sleeps in the Nude: Seki and Asami don't wear clothes to bed with the latter's excuse being that she came from a Mirror Universe where everybody is naked. They don't mind as the two often have sex with each other anyway.
