The following terms fit as varitions of this trope:

  • Alatrism is belief that god(s) exist, but deliberately not worshipping any.
  • Misotheism means hatred of God or the gods.
    • Dystheism is belief that the world's existing suffering indicates that a god or gods are not outright good.
    • Some forms of dualistic cosmology assert that a higher being's benevolence is faked.
  • Henotheism is the belief in the existence of multiple gods, but the preference for worshiping only onenote .
    • This is how Vedic Hinduism worked: depending on your sect, you worshiped Shiva, Vishnu, or Shakti as supreme of the Panchayatana.
    • Then there's the Devas (Ganesh, Kali, Hanuman, etc.) who you would pick as your personal deity to guard your family, something like a patron saint.

The following advocate aversion to the concept of whether God exists:
  • Apatheism considers the question of God's existence irrelevant and meaningless.
  • Ignosticism claims the very concept makes no sense, and thus cannot be addressed.
