Stand Analysis: Funny Valentine
Valentine's stand, Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap, could be read as a stand fitting the man's own obsessive Patriotic Fervor and his focus on his own country above all others. There's a fairly famous American quote- "I only regret that I have but one life to loose for my country" which rings awfully true looking at Valentine's stand. What's more patriotic than dying for your country over and over again?
At the same time, there's something almost jealous about the stand, stealing away Valentines from bunches of other universes and stealing them away to serve the base dimension's America. Think of all the chaos caused if the president just vanished one day, destined for another world without telling anyone, and think of how many of those Alternate Funnies bit the dust. While D4C may have been very helpful for the base world Valentine, getting him significantly closer to fulfilling his goals, the rest of the worlds got a pretty raw deal, all things considered. So not only is D4C based in a passionate love of country, it is focused on the base world United States alone, making it even more specific, in a way.
Stand Analysis: Hot Pants
Hot Pants' story is based in trauma. Without her brother's death, she would have never become a nun and began her search for the corpse parts, and if you consider these activities as ways of distancing herself from her horrible actions, some of the stranger properties of her Stand make more sense. Notably, just about anyone can use Cream Starter, which is very unusual for a stand, but if you think of the stand as another thing that she tries her best to distance herself from.
Cream Starter seems to be dependent on absorbing flesh as fuel (either that or it starts with some in reserve before it needs to be filled, which is also interesting) which could relate back to the death of Hot Pants' brother. That basic principle of exchange- flesh for flesh, life for life- is reflected in the spray. If Cream Starter starts with some flesh in the tank, so to speak, that could also tie back to her brother, a reminder that her life was bought by another's death.
