- In the Alien comics, the scientific name of the Xenomorphs is changed from "Internecivus raptus" to "Linguafoeda acheronsis".
- In Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey, Bill and Ted name their sons after each other but in the Marvel adaptation names each boy after his father. The trade paperbacks corrected this though.
- Dastardly & Muttley: Dick Dastardly and Muttley are renamed Richard "Dick" Atcherly and Dudley "Mutt" Muller.
- Hound: The graphic novel changes the names of Cú Chulainn, Conchobar mac Nessa, Deichtire, Medb, Ailill mac Máta, Forgall, Scáthach, and Aífe to Cú Cullan, King Connor, Detira, Queen Maeve, Prince Alil, Farrell, Skye, and Eva.
- Norby: Several Downplayed examples, as Ing the Ingrate is introduced as Ing the Merciless. This epitet is one of several that Ing used in the novels and the comic, but the comic introduces him as the Merciless and is persistent with the name, while the novel preferred the Ingrate. The salesman calls Norby an R-2 robot, instead of an R2, and also says the spacer who repaired Norby was named MacGillicuddy, rather than the novel's McGillicuddy (it is correctly rendered when Admiral Yobo says his name in the second adaptation). The Space Command agent distressed by Jeff breaking the kitchen computers, Gridlow, is changed to Widlow. The Inventors Union that wants to take Norby apart is changed to an Inventors Cartel to sound more sinister.
- In Rainbow Brite:
- Twink's name is changed to Twinkle for similar reasons to his change in the Western Animation folder. Wisp still calls him Twink as a nickname, though.
- The Color Kids have been aged up and given a few species changes into the interplanetary Color Guard. Red Butler is now codenamed Red Flare (his real name is unknown), while Patty is called such because her real name is hard to pronounce in human language.
- Sonic the Hedgehog:

- As the comic started out as a tie-in to Sonic the Hedgehog (SatAM), "Hedgehog" was treated as Sonic's surname. Even more bafflingly, "Sonic" was just a nickname — his first name was considered too embarrassing to be mentioned, while his middle name was Maurice. Ken Penders later explained that his first name was supposed to be Olgilvie, but this was never actually mentioned in the comics themselves (and he eventually left, with the new writers not particularly eager to capitalize on his idea). According to Ian Flynn, Sonic eventually legally changed his name offscreen, finally making Sonic his real name. Following the 2013 Continuity Reboot, Sonic's name was reverted to what it was in the games.
- Dr. Robotnik. Originally, his first name was Ivo, like in the games. Then it was retconned into Julian after Sonic the Hedgehog (SatAM) introduced that name. Later, writers explained this inconsistency as his birth name being "Julian Kintobor of the House of Ivo", which he later changed to Ivo Robotnik upon taking over Mobotropolis. The 2013 reboot simplified things, establishing that his name was always Ivo Robotnik.
- The French Freedom Fighter Antoine's surname is Depardieu in SatAM, but D'Coolette in the comics.
- Due to a mix-up on the comic staff's part, Metal Sonic was initially called Mecha Sonic, the name of a separate (but similar) game character. To add to the confusion, Sonic's roboticized form was called Mecha Sonic as well.
- Naugus from Sonic the Hedgehog (SatAM) became Ixis Naugus pre-reboot, and Walter Naugus post-reboot.
- In Sonic the Hedgehog (SatAM), Robotnik's nephew Snively had Only One Name and it was never specified whether it was his actual name or a nickname. The comic chose to make it an alias, with his birthname being Colin Kintobor Jr. Following the reboot, he was no-longer Eggman's nephew and was instead named Julian Snively.
- When Eggman Nega made a cameo via silhouette, he was referred to as Dr Nega.
- King Acorn's name went from Maximillian pre-reboot, to Nigel post-reboot.
- Muttski –- Sonic's pet dog from the Sonic the Hedgehog (SatAM) pilot and pre-reboot comic issues, because the mobian Ben "Mutt" Muttski post-reboot.
- Rotor’s father was Sherman Walrus pre-reboot and Tundra the Walrus post-reboot.
- A couple of characters from Tails' Skypatrol had their names changed:
- Focke-Wulf became Falke-Wulf
- Witchcart became Wendy Naugus, the sister of Walter Naugus.
- Sonic the Comic:
- The comic changed Metal Sonic's name to Metallix, as the writer of the story that introduced him felt that "'Metal Sonic' wouldn't do". It still referenced his more common name, though, as he's referred to as "Metallix the Metal Sonic" several times.
- Later issues revealed that this series' version of Porker Lewis was originally called Oscar the Pig.
- Sonic the Hedgehog (Archie Comics):
- The Red Max from Wacky Races is now The Red Baron in Wacky Raceland.
