''San: Three Kingdoms Comic'' was a {{parody}} webcomic run by Peng Guo, using basic arts, but mostly focusing on irony and humor. Basically, take the epic ''Literature/RomanceOfTheThreeKingdoms'' novel (and inspiration from the ''VideoGame/DynastyWarriors'' series), then retell it, with the hilarity dialled up to [[PowerLevel OVER NINE THOUSAAAAAAND!!]]. Includes lots of {{Flanderization}}s, {{Double Entendre}}s as well as lots and lots of cameos and {{Shout Out}}s.

The domains for the comic have expired, but archives of it can be still viewed [[http://web.archive.org/web/20150528211825/http://san.paulguo.com/?id=1 here]] and [[http://web.archive.org/web/20180330085108/http://www.baozicomics.com/comic?sort=first here]].

!!Tropes found in this webcomic:

* AnachronismStew:
** [=McDonald's=] in Ancient China. Not to mention Cao Cao and his sniper rifle, Cao Cao's men with a machine gun, Cao Cao's credit card, Zhang Liao's Bazooka, and French fries- which usually has something to do with Mother Dong and Lu Bu.
** [[Manga/{{Ikkitousen}} Kaku Bunwa]], and Facebook...
** As of ep. 219, Website/ThatOtherWiki and... [[spoiler:TV Tropes?!]]
* ArsonMurderAndJaywalking (Dong Zhuo's list of atrocities [[https://web.archive.org/web/20160314083912/http://san.paulguo.com/?id=41 here]].)
* ArtEvolution: As new VideoGame/DynastyWarriors games and designs come out, the character designs have been changed; starting with ''Dynasty Warriors 6'' and Pang Tong's [[BreakingTheFourthWall introduction]] a number of strips have overtly involved the characters noticing (or in Zhuge Liang's case, not noticing until it's too late) the change.
** As for the transition to Baozi Comics, everyone has their most recent character design from ''8'', with those who had original designs or quirks have those combined with their new design (as it is the case with Dead!Guo Jia).
* ArtShift: "Why are we drawn in [[Franchise/DragonBall Toriyama]] style?"
* BackFromTheDead: [[spoiler: Mother Dong,]] after she was told Lu Bu stole her french fries.
* BerserkButton: Tell Zhuge Liang that Yue Ying slept with Cao Cao. Or think that Yue Ying is non-Chinese. Or heck, Da Qiao just about anything.
** Don't [[https://web.archive.org/web/20160314083912/http://san.paulguo.com/?id=210 break out into a fight]] during Zhou Yu's funeral in front of Xiao Qiao, don't say to [[AlwaysCamp Zhang He]] that [[https://web.archive.org/web/20160314083912/http://san.paulguo.com/?id=119 he isn't beautiful]]...
** The Dong Zhuo faction and anything french fries-related.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: So you think women are merely DisposableWoman here, as in the novel? Da Qiao is a crazy ClingyJealousGirl who pretty much snaps everyone who pisses her off. Yue Ying when angry can send Zhuge Liang and his main forte into their graves.
** Viewers expected Sun Shang Xiang to be tough not expect her to be a sadistic pervert who likes to abduct her ex-boyfriends and keep them in her sex dungeon.
* BreadEggsMilkSquick: Ma Chao in his debut. Drags enemy around with his horse, beating the formerly Lu Bu-beating Mother Dong (She's terminally ill), and can ''dance'' on a dress.
* ButtMonkey: Cao Ren, with his CatchPhrase "Let me goooo.... I'm still virgin.....". Also Zhang Liao being the unwilling subject of love interest of Guan Yu, and Little Ping just about any time Zhuge Liang and Yue Ying get frisky.
** UsefulNotes/OdaNobunaga from ''VideoGame/SamuraiWarriors'' (also Sanada Yukimura) is slowly turning into one. Justified that Peng himself doesn't know Sengoku Era enough to convert it into a funny comic, so this is all he can do for the franchise.
* CallBack: Remember when Zhang Fei [[https://web.archive.org/web/20160314083912/http://san.paulguo.com/?id=71 crashed into Cinderella's carriage while drunk]]? Apparently, [[https://web.archive.org/web/20160314083912/http://san.paulguo.com/?id=223 her shoes fits him too]].
** Huang Zhong [[https://web.archive.org/web/20160314083912/http://san.paulguo.com/?id=188 remembers very well]] [[https://web.archive.org/web/20160314083912/http://san.paulguo.com/?id=150 Zhuge Liang's scam]].
* TheCameo: Kaku Bunwa from ''Manga/{{Ikkitousen}}'' replaces her namesake character (Jia Xu) in this comic, even though he technically appeared during Dian Wei's last stand. Still unknown whether it will clash with the new [=DW7=] design of Jia Xu.
** And [[Series/{{House}} Doctor House]]
*** Similarly, [[https://web.archive.org/web/20160314083912/http://san.paulguo.com/?id=84 Jang-Geum]] from the popular Korean period drama ''Jewel in the Palace''
** [[Film/TheLordOfTheRings Legolas]] appeared twice, and he's the guy who shot off Xiahou Dun's eye.
* CampGay: Guan Yu, much to Zhang Liao's dismay. Cao Ren, too.
** Zhang He and his PRETTY BUTTERFLIES.
* CoolShades: Guo Jia, later Huang Zhong.
* TheDitz: Zhang Fei, writ LARGE, at least in early strips.
* DecapitationPresentation: The source has a substantial number of severed heads in its own right, but here it's played for dark humor: Yuan Shao would really rather that you don't put the head of a slain enemy on his desk, please.
* DeathIsASlapOnTheWrist: A major character dies? It's just movie magic, [[PutOnABus they're really only off for vacation in Hawaii]].
* [[DoubleStandardAbuseFemaleOnMale Double Standard: Torture, Dismemberment And Outright Murder Female On Male]]
* DungFu: Since he was tricked into taking laxatives, Dian Wei had to fight with buckets of his own shit.
* EarlyBirdCameo: Huang Zhong, from before the Red Cliff battle, leading up to the event mentioned in ShoutOut below.
** Cao Pi and Zhen Ji are first introduced in [[https://web.archive.org/web/20160314083912/http://san.paulguo.com/?id=39 this]] FourthWallMailSlot, Cao Pi as a younger clone of Cao Cao before he appeared in VideoGame/DynastyWarriors with an actual character design.
* ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin: Red Hare is actually a giant red bunny, and some jokes involve very literal '[[https://web.archive.org/web/20160314083912/http://san.paulguo.com/?id=201 interpretation]]'.
* {{Expy}}: Partially lampshaded by Zhuge Liang. Zhao Yun's ''VideoGame/DynastyWarriors 6'' is drawn to look like [[Manga/{{Naruto}} Sasuke Uchiha]], complete with Konoha crest and clouds. Later on, his proposed wife whom he refused is drawn EXACTLY like Sakura Haruno. [[https://web.archive.org/web/20160314083912/http://san.paulguo.com/?id=223 This went full force with #223]].
* EvenTheGuysWantHim: Guan Yu. Apparently Zhang Liao too.
* FishEyes: [[https://web.archive.org/web/20160314083912/http://san.paulguo.com/?id=15 Dong Zhuo]] has these.
* ForcedTransformation: In a parody of "Literature/TheFrogPrince", Zhen Ji is introduced to Cao Pi after he has been turned into a frog. Apparently, [[https://web.archive.org/web/20160314083912/http://san.paulguo.com/?id=121 kissing him]] just isn't [[https://web.archive.org/web/20160314083912/http://san.paulguo.com/?id=122 enough...]]
* FourthWallMailSlot: Some of the earlier strips were these.
* FreakOut: Zhang Liao, whenever something involving him and Guan Yu is about to come up. [[HoYay For good reason]].
* {{Gonk}}: Sometimes the result of a GrossUpCloseUp. Nearly every woman invokes this when any of them are mad. Xing Cai has the scariest one, scarier than Zhang Fei's infamous shout.
** Also, Madame Wu thought Liu Bei was one.
** And then there's [[https://web.archive.org/web/20160314083912/http://san.paulguo.com/?id=198 Sun]] [[https://web.archive.org/web/20160314083912/http://san.paulguo.com/?id=202 Shang Xiang]]...
** Played with in Pang Tong's case; his Gonk face is just a mask with which to test Sun Quan (who does "judge this book by its cover").
* GroinAttack: Huang Zhong goes [[Manga/JoJosBizarreAdventure Dio]] on [[https://web.archive.org/web/20160314083912/http://san.paulguo.com/?id=188 Zhuge Liang's balls]].
* FunnyForeigner: Subverted: Sun Quan is 100% Chinese, but his exotic look makes him thought to be a foreigner and it has been his RunningGag.
* HeavySleeper: As it seems, [[https://web.archive.org/web/20160314083912/http://san.paulguo.com/?id=208 Lu]] [[https://web.archive.org/web/20160314083912/http://san.paulguo.com/?id=209 Meng]] has been sleeping during all of Zhou Yu's funeral... standing upright.
* HopeSpot: Guan Yu is about to kill Diao Chan. As she begs for her life, Guan Yu was reminded that she's the girl who asked if he's a basketball player in his debut strip, so he leaves the scene... only to call the blacksmith that created his weapon to do the dirty job.
* HoYay: Invoked InUniverse as a RunningGag that's PlayedForLaughs.
* HulkSpeak: Wei Yan. He does this in VideoGame/DynastyWarriors as well.
* KilledOffForReal: For the most part, they get sent off to Hawaii. But a lot of them seemed to die for real too. Guo Jia and Xun Yu were seen as spirits when they die.
* IKnowKarate: Zhuge Liang's "Fist of the North Star" works just fine against the scholars of Wu... but is worse than useless against women.
* IllBeInMyBunk: [[https://web.archive.org/web/20160314083912/http://san.paulguo.com/?id=149 As seen here.]]
* ImprobableWeaponUser: [[https://web.archive.org/web/20160314083912/http://san.paulguo.com/?id=53 Popsicles]] and... [[https://web.archive.org/web/20160314083912/http://san.paulguo.com/?id=54 shish kebabs]]?
** How about [[https://web.archive.org/web/20160314083912/http://san.paulguo.com/?id=69 rulers]]? [[https://web.archive.org/web/20160314083912/http://san.paulguo.com/?id=165 A lamp]]? [[https://web.archive.org/web/20160314083912/http://san.paulguo.com/?id=169 A flyswatter]]? [[https://web.archive.org/web/20160314083912/http://san.paulguo.com/?id=190 A giant fork with a dumpling on the tip]]? [[https://web.archive.org/web/20160314083912/http://san.paulguo.com/?id=191 One with a roasted duck instead]]? [[https://web.archive.org/web/20160314083912/http://san.paulguo.com/?id=222 A TV Remote]]? While he's not in all of the examples here, all of Taishi Ci's appearences involves oddball weaponry.
* IncrediblyLamePun: Gan Ning sells pirate [=DVDs=]. 'Cos he's a ''pirate''. Geddit?
** Again with Gan Ning, which involves breaking his back for selling bootlegged copies of ''Film/BrokebackMountain''.
* InexplicablyIdenticalIndividuals: Liu Bei mistakes [[https://web.archive.org/web/20160314083912/http://san.paulguo.com/?id=194 Lu]] [[https://web.archive.org/web/20160314083912/http://san.paulguo.com/?id=195 Fan]], a Wu strategist, for [[https://web.archive.org/web/20160314083912/http://san.paulguo.com/?id=18 Lu]] [[https://web.archive.org/web/20160314083912/http://san.paulguo.com/?id=88 Bu]], despite that the latter is dead since a few years and that the two of them are not being related outside of their identical family names.
* LineOfSightName: Guan Yu invokes this... and fails.
* LookBehindYou: Guan Yu's tactic to defeat Hua Xiong. And... '''LOOK! BAOZI FAIRY!!'''
%%* LoveTriangle: Between Zhou Yu, Guan Yu and Zhang Liao. Zhou Yu [[IfItsYouItsOkay is gay for Guan Yu]] despite him being completely oblivious about it. Guan Yu wants Zhang Liao who then would want to go so far as killing himself to get away from him.
* {{Mukokuseki}}: Lampshaded in the case of Sun Quan and Yue Ying.
* NakedPeopleAreFunny: [[https://web.archive.org/web/20160314083912/http://san.paulguo.com/?id=219 "He may kick me out but is stripping me really necessary?"]]
* NotMakingThisUpDisclaimer: Not surprisingly, these become necessary after a while, as seen [[https://web.archive.org/web/20160314083912/http://san.paulguo.com/?id=82 here]].
** A different font is used to indicate direct quotes from the source material, as seen [[https://web.archive.org/web/20160314083912/http://san.paulguo.com/?id=209 here.]]
* PaletteSwap: Zhuge Jin, Zhuge Liang's Wu-aligned elder brother, looks exactly like his younger brother except that he wears red instead of green. As always, Zhuge Liang [[https://web.archive.org/web/20160314083912/http://san.paulguo.com/?id=168 weaponized this to his favor]].
* PornStash: As seen [[https://web.archive.org/web/20160314083912/http://san.paulguo.com/?id=88 here]].
* PunctuatedForEmphasis: [[https://web.archive.org/web/20160314083912/http://san.paulguo.com/?id=148 This is DONGWU!]]
* PunnyName: Guan Yu(Feather) and [[MemeticMutation Guan Yu(Fish)]] are pronounced almost exactly the same (due to Chinese homophones. This has been weaponized at least [[https://web.archive.org/web/20160314083912/http://san.paulguo.com/?id=202 twice]] although one of them had an interesting [[https://web.archive.org/web/20160314083912/http://san.paulguo.com/?id=171 response]].
* PutOnABus: Guan Ping, after a mental-scarring event of Zhou Yu's 'indirect kiss', gets himself on a bus.
** Similarly, any characters KilledOffForReal (excluding [[RuleOfFunny non-canon]] "[[AmusingInjuries deaths]]") are shown being [[DisneyDeath sent off on vacation or somesuch.]]
* RuleOfFunny: Besides the source material, the only cause of what happens in the strip.
* RunningGag: Frequent references to Korea are made, since the author of the comic is Korean.
** And Baozi.
** And the gay jokes.
** And the females getting a {{Gonk}} face somehow.
** And many characters ends up going to [=McDonald's=] [[https://web.archive.org/web/20160314083912/http://san.paulguo.com/?id=11 for]] [[https://web.archive.org/web/20160314083912/http://san.paulguo.com/?id=135 some]] [[https://web.archive.org/web/20160314083912/http://san.paulguo.com/?id=169 reason]] (And Guan Yu ends up [[https://web.archive.org/web/20160314083912/http://san.paulguo.com/?id=111 burning the place]]).
** Any reference to the Yellow Turbans regularly gets comparisons to the Falun Gong.
* ShoutOut: Zhuge Liang can turn into [[Manga/FistOfTheNorthStar Kenshiro]] at whim, though most of the time it's not doing any good. Also, Huang Zhong recently uses [[Manga/JoJosBizarreAdventure Dio's]] signature "MUDAMUDAMUDAMUDAMUDAMUDAMUDA!!" and [[{{Kiai}} WRRRYYYYYY!!!!]]
** Then there's [[Franchise/StarWars 'Darth Chao' vs 'Han Skywalker'...]]
** Note the site's banner design, which treats the character "San" like the "A!" from ''Manga/AzumangaDaioh''.
** [[https://web.archive.org/web/20160314083912/http://san.paulguo.com/?id=189 Zhuge Qiao in the last frame]] looks [[VideoGame/RavingRabbids familiar...]]
*** And for that matter, so does [[Anime/NeonGenesisEvangelion Zhuge Rong...]]
** Wait, [[https://web.archive.org/web/20160314083912/http://san.paulguo.com/?id=154 Kan]] [[https://web.archive.org/web/20160314083912/http://san.paulguo.com/?id=164 Ze]] is a [[Franchise/{{Transformers}} Transformer]]!?
* SlasherSmile: Sun Shang Xiang in the final frame of ep. 200. And Zhang He (see BerserkButton above).
* SpeakOfTheDevil: Cao Cao... to the extreme.
* {{Stripperiffic}}: Huang Gai. Huang Gai is male. They blame [[VideoGame/DynastyWarriors Koei]] for this.
* StupidSexyFlanders: 'Cao Cao is sexy...'
* ATasteOfTheLash: Zhou Yu's method of punishing Huang Gai for his insolence is to strip him and give him 100 lashes. [[https://web.archive.org/web/20160314083912/http://san.paulguo.com/?id=153 There's just one problem about that]]: Huang Gai is ''way'' TooKinkyToTorture.
* TooDumbToLive: Liu Bei, much to Zhuge Liang's dismay, but at one point Zhao Yun ends up with the IdiotBall and ''saves'' Liu Bei as a result.
%%* TooKinkyToTorture: See ATasteOfTheLash.
* UncannyFamilyResemblance: Many characters who is known to be a family member of a character who appeared in ''VideoGame/DynastyWarriors'' at the time of the creation of the strip and never appeared or appeared as a generic officer, will look like a clone of the character.
* VerbalTic: Pang Tong says 'honey' a lot...
* VisualPun: when [[https://web.archive.org/web/20160314083912/http://san.paulguo.com/?id=214 Ma Chao debuts]] and the much-loved Five Tiger Generals[[note]]Ma joins Huang Zhong, Zhao Yun, Zhang Fei and Guan Yu as Shu's legendary generals[[/note]] are unofficially complete. For context, the first frames are intended as {{Foreshadowing}}, but rather than the Five Tiger Generals thing it's about five actual tigers escaping from the zoo ie. the Five Tigers have been unleashed.
* [[WhatKindOfLamePowerIsHeartAnyway What Kind Of Lame Power Is Grabbing And Squeezing Guy's Balls Anyway]]: Sima Hui's Dragon Claws Of Western Mountain, which Sima Yi immediately lampshades and refuses. [[RuleOfCool At least it has a fearsome name...]]
%%* {{Yandere}}: Lady Lu.
* YankTheDogsChain: Guan Yu almost kills Diao Chan, but gets reminded that she's the innocent girl who asked him if he was a basketball player early in the comic, thus he doesn't go through with the plan... only to call the blacksmith who crafted his weapon to do the killing.
* YourMom: Subverted, Xu Shu wanted a way out of the fire attack at Chibi. Pang Tong suggests his presumed dead mother. Understandably, Xu Shu is angry until [[https://web.archive.org/web/20160314083912/http://san.paulguo.com/?id=158 his mother calls him...]]
