I can't speak for the games, but in Sonic X we tend to see her memories either in a) normal full colour, or b) sepia toned, and the sepia toned images tend to be far more blunt, dramatic, and/or symbolic. I would suggest that this is because (somehow) Shadow's memories have been manipulated, so there are two versions. His "real" memories are in full colour, and his fake memories in sepia (maybe it was Gerald that did that so as to make sure Shadow would be angered enough to carry out his plan of world destruction -- but he didn't factor in his grandaughter's influence). In Shadow's final HeelFaceTurn in ''Maria's Request'', where the dying Maria tells him how he was created to help people, the colour seems to change just a little again -- there's a lot of softer, dramatic lighting going on, as if this sequence is the only one Shadow can really count on to be true, regardless of which of his other memories are genuine. I don't know if they use that colour effect in the games, but it WOULD explain the different sets of memories. |

After the emeralds were made, some unknown life form, presumably a single cell, absorbed the power of them and became a god. The god decided to make a world. He did so, but the life forms living on it made it into a festering pit of darkness. The god created a creature (Dark Gaia) to destroy the world. The god decided that he would do better on his next try, but first made a creature (Light Gaia/[[spoiler:Chip]]) to protect the better life forms from Dark Gaia. He then made Chao, what seemed to be the best creatures fit for the planet, as they embodied innocence. He made non-anthros for the enjoyment of his "children". Some Chao liked the non-anthros so much that they tried to imitate them. This led to the creation of the anthros. The anthros are different because they are capable of corruption (a trait later passed on to pure Chao), have special powers, and go through more changes during maturity (the differences between Classic and Modern Sonic). The god also created Humans, who were more complex, but seperated from the Chao and Anthros until they found them milinniea later. The god (let's call him Thysis) then discovered two new planets (Dark Comet and Planet Wisp). Thysis sent Chao to the planets in hope for colonization. The Planet Wisp colonizers became the Bablonians (their appearances came from the birds brought there, and the Extreme Gear came from their facination with the Wisps' powers of flight). Unfortunately, the Black Comet colonizers became corrupted by the comet's powers, and became the Black Arms. Thysis was fortunately able to delay the Black Comet's arrival near the planet. He looked for more planets in the universe, before realizing that he had to handle one project at a time. He sent out a Chao to colonize other planets. The Chao went mad with power and became a tyrant ([[VideoGame/{{Ristar}} Kaiser Greedy]]). Thysis tried to destroy him, but couldn't find the strength to kill any of his children, after the tragedy that was the first project. Greedy was sealed away instead. Thysis knew that Greedy would return, so he created a race of Star-Knights (Ristar's species) to fight him off if he should return. One night, Thysis fell asleep and had a nightmare. With him in the nightmare was a child, who was sucked into a dark abyss. Suddenly, Thysis got many complaints of nightmares, usually featuring a dark wizard ([[VideoGame/NightsIntoDreams Wizeman]]). Thysis soon had an idea. He went to sleep, and when he got to the world of Nightmare, he balanced it out by making one side Nightopia. He also sent a beam of light into the depths of Nightmare, hoping that it would turn into a positive Nightmaren ([=NiGHTS=]). Thysis also created a physical system that balanced the power of each side of the Dreamworld and the Gaias, [[VideoGame/BillyHatcherAndTheGiantEgg Morning Land]]. Thysis realized that being a god is very hard, and he could not protect his children alone. First, he summoned a large community of Echidnas, and told them about the Master, Super, and Chaos Emeralds. He told them to protect the emeralds with their lives, and christened them 'The Guardians'. Then, Thysis produced an Egg from his own genes. He gave the one inside the Egg great powers over the emeralds, being able to harness their energy easier than most. He gave the being inside the Egg a big heart, like his, and a strong will, so he would not meet the same fate as Greedy. He then realized that he would be happier if he protected the world by instinct instead of by command. So with great reluctancy, he placed the Egg on the planet, and made himself invisible to all life forms that would come in contact with the being. He then spent many years attempting to get a Chao to copy a human. After several generations, [[spoiler: Dr. Ivo Robotnik]] was born. Thysis then set his plan in motion by hatching the Egg. Once it hatched, Thysis produced a tag labeled [[spoiler: Sonic]] for the Hero to read when he was able to read it and ready to start [[spoiler: his]] world-changing journey. Over the course of the years, Thysis set up all of [[spoiler: Sonic]]'s grand adventures to prepare [[spoiler: him]] for what lies ahead. One day, all the heroes created by Thysis will team up to stop the destruction of the Sonic Team Universe, and learn of their true creator. Eggman built E-123 Omega to lock him, and decided instead to make a robot that could disguise as anyone, but wouldn't have the rebellious personality: Neo Metal Sonic. As Dr Eggman has already made even more realistic Shadow Androids by VideoGame/ShadowTheHedgehog, he could've made a Metal Sonic in the main timeline as well, meaning there are two Metal Sonics. Two versions may explain why Metal Sonic is sometimes loyal to Eggman and doesn't show much personality, and sometimes is a DragonWithAnAgenda. |

A number of works like ComicBook/SonicTheComic suggest that continuous defeats [[VillainousBreakdown will make Eggman an unhinged maniac]], and the "[[VideoGame/SonicForces drop a sun on your enemies]]" is not far removed from Nega's acts as an OmnicidalManiac. Nega is an older Eggman who figured out how to prolong his life, via BrainUploading into a [[RidiculouslyHumanRobots metal copy of himself]] and pretends to [[MyGrandsonMyself his descendant]]. He initially aids Eggman to help his own timeline, but eventually gets so frustrated that he decides to be his enemy. [[IHatePastMe Nega hates Eggman for being his past failings]], and is willing to off him because AlternateTimeline shenanigans will protect him, [[TakingYouWithMe he hates his past enough THAT MUCH]], or has become too AxCrazy to care. Being an OmnicidalManiac is because [[SuicidalCosmicTemperTantrum if he can't rule the world, nobody will]]. Eggman already shows traits of a family-friendly [[TheSociopath sociopath]], it's just that 200 years of insanity have eroded his standards and worsened those existing traits. The charade of being an IdenticalGrandson or AlternateSelf is to make sure nobody can use it against him given if Eggman did father a child, it was probably before [[{{Gonk}} the cartoonish fat man]] we see in the present. Him wanting to kill Eggman is more a TheOnlyOneAllowedToDefeatYou situation. |

Having a form of immortality would also make her perfect for sealing Iblis away; she either can't die of natural causes, or will never stay dead, so Iblis cannot rely on its host's death or DespairEventHorizon. |
