Hilda's essay about her close encounter with a troll wins her the chance to tag along with Trolberg's new head of the safety patrol, Erik Ahlberg. However, it soon becomes apparent that Ahlberg is vain, overzealous, and not great at his job... and that's before his idiocy puts the group in a situation where they have to flee unpetrified trolls.

!!Tropes:
* AdaptationalEarlyAppearance:
** In the graphic novels, Erik Ahlberg only appeared in the final book, Hilda and the Mountain King. Here, he is introduced in the first episode of the season.
** Likewise, The Two-Headed Troll appeared midway in "The Stone Forest" Graphic Novel. In this episode, the Troll makes his debut during the climax.
* AdaptationExpansion: Opens with the opening scene of the book Hilda and the Stone Forest before quickly transitioning to original content; as the scene in the book in question is followed by a TimePassesMontage, one could say the entire season of original content adapts and expands on that aspect of the book before returning to the rest of the Stone Forest plot in the season finale.
* AsideGlance: David's reaction to Frida when she goes crazy for a bit while cheering Hilda, since she's never done it before.
* BaitAndSwitch: When Erik Ahlberg tells Johanna that Hilda did something very serious, it seems he is talking about one of her adventures. But it turns out he was coming to tell Hilda she won an essay contest.
* CliffHanger: Hilda finds out that Ahlberg is after fame, rather than helping people be safe. After coming home, she decides to try and expose his true colors leading to the events of the next episode, while Alfur writes a report of what really happened to send to the Northern Counties.
* CoolAirship: The Safety Patrol has a zeppelin, and Hilda is thrilled that she gets to ride it.
* ContinuityNod: The statue of Edmund Ahlberg at the school is seen again, visibly patched up after it got smashed by the troll last season.
* EndingTheme: Just like the first episode of season 1, season 2 kicks off the season by playing the full version of "Hilda's Theme". And for the bonus points, yes, they kept the crossfade transition intact.
* GenkiGirl: Frida enters this for a short period of time as she cheers on Hilda, much to David's confusion.
--> '''Frida:''' Wooo! Go Hilda! [proceeds to clap like crazy with a big smile on her face]
* GlorySeeker: Erik really wants to make a name for himself, just like his ancestor Edmund. Therefore, he intentionally tries to make Trolls angry, so he can look heroic when chasing them off.
* InterruptedBath: The unnamed farmer, who is in the middle of taking a bath when Erik and Hilda knock on his door and demand to be let in so they can escape the Trolls that are chasing them.
* JerkassHasAPoint: In spite of his SafetyWorst behavior and being a glory seeker, Erik does point out some legitimate safety concerns, like a portion of the wall being in bad shape, a bell tower lacking a bell, and that the Vittra tunnels could be used by Trolls to get into the city (which actually happened in Season 1, episode 5).
* JustPlaneWrong: When the airship is hit by lightning from the Weather Spirits which damage the engines, the ship immediately plummets towards the ground, with Gerda barely avoiding a crash. However, airships get their lifting power from the gas inside the balloon. The engines are only for controling the ships direction. The engines shorting out should not have resulted in a crash, but simply cause the airship to start drifting with the wind.
* MultiPartEpisode: Much like the first season, this is connected with "The Draugen" to help further expand the plot of Hilda trying to expose Ahlberg.
* OhCrap:
** Hilda when she recognizes the local storm as arguing weather spirits.
** The farmer when he opens his door, and sees the various Trolls right outside.
* PercussiveMaintenance: Gerda Gustav resorts to this when trying to get the crashing zeppelin back under control.
* RousingSpeech: Somewhat played with in the episode. Ahlberg's speech to Hilda's class foreshadows his true colors and it ends with him ringing a bell, which isn't a good sign for Trolberg wildlife.
* SafetyWorst: When he's not being a GlorySeeker, Erik goes to ridiculous extremes to protect the city against Trolls. He even ''drastically'' increased the size of the anti-troll protocols for the Sparrow Scouts.
* SeriousBusiness: Trolls, and anything related to them, to Erik. He even takes great interest in the exact flavor of a sandwich that a troll stole from a bell keeper.
* TooDumbToLive: Erik Ahlberg, and to a lesser degree Gerda Gustav. Among other things, they fly their zeppelin through a group of arguing weather spirits, causing the spirits to lash out at them and nearly crash the zeppelin, and later they keep making pictures of themselves with the trolls in the troll circle, even when the sun is setting.
* WeaponizedCar: The safety patrol has off-road vehicles equipped with anti-troll weapons, such as troll repellent. Gerda deploys one against the two-headed troll, who unfortunately [[NoSell just shrugs it off]].
