->''"You're probably thinking, 'My boyfriend said this was a superhero movie, but that guy in the red suit just turned that other guy into a fucking kebab.' Well, I may be super, but I'm '''no''' hero. And yeah, technically, this is a murder. But some of the best love stories start with a murder. And that's exactly what this is: A love story. And to tell it right... I gotta take you back to long before I squeezed this ass into red spandex."''

''Deadpool'' is a 2016 superhero action comedy film based on the Creator/MarvelComics character ComicBook/{{Deadpool}}, directed by Creator/TimMiller, in his directorial debut. As with all other Creator/TwentiethCenturyFox comic book movies, this film is not part of the Franchise/MarvelCinematicUniverse. It does, however, have ties to the ''Franchise/XMenFilmSeries''.

Its story revolves around former Special Forces operative Wade Wilson, who, after having his skin disfigured by a rogue experiment designed to give him a HealingFactor, decides to get revenge for his torture and hideous disfigurement as the HeroicComedicSociopath mercenary Deadpool. However, when he discovers that his OldFlame is the target of his sworn nemesis, Wilson decides to give this hero thing the old college try.

The film stars "God's Perfect Idiot" Creator/RyanReynolds as Deadpool (reprising his role from ''Film/XMenOriginsWolverine'', kinda), Creator/TJMiller as Weasel, Creator/MorenaBaccarin as Vanessa Carlysle/Copycat, Andre Tricoteux & Creator/StefanKapicic as Piotr Rasputin / ComicBook/{{Colossus}} [[note]](through motion capture and voice acting, respectively)[[/note]], Creator/EdSkrein as Francis Freeman/Ajax, Creator/GinaCarano as Christine/Angel Dust, Brianna Hildebrand as Ellie Phimister/Negasonic Teenage Warhead, and Creator/LeslieUggams as Blind Al. Music/JunkieXL composed the score.

As promised in the first film's {{Stinger}}, there is a sequel introducing ComicBook/{{Cable}} to the franchise, 2018's ''Film/Deadpool2'', directed by David Leitch (''Film/JohnWick'', ''Film/AtomicBlonde''). See also ''Film/DeadpoolNoGoodDeed'', a short film that was screened alongside ''Film/{{Logan}}'', and the 2024 film ''Film/DeadpoolAndWolverine'', directed by Creator/ShawnLevy (Reynolds' director on the films ''Film/FreeGuy'' and ''Film/TheAdamProject'') and starring Creator/HughJackman reprising his legendary role as ComicBook/{{Wolverine}}.

In July 2022, this movie, along with ''Deadpool 2'' and ''Film/{{Logan}}'', became the first R-rated films to stream on Creator/DisneyPlus in the United States.

!!''Deadpool'' provides examples of:

[[foldercontrol]]

[[folder:Tropes A to D]]
* FiveFiveFive: The business card used by the Recruiter, Agent Smith, reads 555-0199. It's possibly ''the only thing in the entire film'' [[BetterThanABareBulb that isn't]] [[LampshadeHanging mercilessly lampshaded.]]
* AbsurdlySharpBlade: Deadpool's katanas are able to cut through anything he uses them on in the movie with no effort on his part, with the only exception being the axes Ajax uses against him.
* AbuseDiscretionShot: Lampshaded and played for BlackComedy, as almost everything is in the film. When Deadpool finds the minor bad guy he calls "Agent Smith", he reaches out and gently pushes the camera lens to look in a different direction before starting to torture "Smith" for the information he wants.
-->'''Smith:''' This is not going to end well for me, is it...?\
'''Deadpool:''' This is not going to end well for you, no. ''[glances at camera]'' You might want to look away for this. ''[pushes the camera to the side, after which we hear Smith screaming and see onlookers reacting in horror]''
* ActionFilmQuietDramaScene: Well, more like scene ''fragments''. However, there are two scenes that are almost entirely dramatic. [[note]]Wade's first fight with Francis and him being too afraid to face Vanessa soon after.[[/note]] [[OOCIsSeriousBusiness You'll know you hit them because Wade stops talking]].
* ActorAllusion:
** While being experimented on, Wade begs the scientists working on him not to give him a [[Film/GreenLantern2011 green, animated costume]]. Speaking of, this is the second time Ryan Reynolds has played a comic-book character whose love interest in the movie [[spoiler:gains super powers and becomes his enemy in the comics. She eventually gets better, but they are no longer lovers]].
** When [[ItMakesSenseInContext he describes fondling Wolverine's balls]], Deadpool briefly assumes an Australian accent. [[DontExplainTheJoke Hugh Jackman is from Australia.]]
** When Colossus mentions Professor X, Deadpool asks if he's referring to Creator/PatrickStewart or Creator/JamesMcAvoy.
** Angel Dust, played by former mixed martial artist Creator/GinaCarano, slaps a triangle armbar on Colossus during their fight.
** In the Latin American Spanish dub:
*** Wade/Deadpool does many references to ''Anime/{{Voltron}}'', as his Latin American VA Creator/JoseAntonioMacias voiced Lance in the dub of ''WesternAnimation/VoltronTheThirdDimension''.
*** Wade originally attempting to go by "Captain Deadpool" gets turned into this in the dub, as Macías also voices Creator/ChrisEvans as ComicBook/CaptainAmerica in the Franchise/MarvelCinematicUniverse.
* ActuallyPrettyFunny:
** Even Deadpool admits that Ajax's quip "I hear you grow back body parts now, Wade? When I'm finished, [[RussianReversal parts will have to grow back you,]]" is a "good one."
** Negasonic Teenage Warhead gives up and starts laughing at Deadpool's AmusingInjuries [[spoiler:as he tries to beat up Colossus]].
* AdaptationalAttractiveness: By nature of being played by Creator/RyanReynolds, Wade Wilson is ''much'' more handsome in the film than his comic counterpart. Even when his face is scarred, it's still hard to say he's ugly given Ryan Reynolds' natural attractiveness is still apparent. This is PlayedForDrama; unlike the comics (where Deadpool doesn't like his scars, but has come to accept them and still actively pursues romance in spite of them), Wade is so ashamed of his scars that he can't even bring himself to ''approach'' Vanessa until [[DamselInDistress she's in danger]]. While it's played straight after Wade gets his powers and his scars, it's averted before that point: in the rare instances in the comics where Wade is shown unscarred, he's quite handsome. At one point in the comics, Wade described himself as looking like "Ryan Reynolds crossed with a shar pei," implying that before the scarring, he was at a similar level of attractiveness as Ryan Reynolds.
* AdaptationalBadass:
** In the comics, Angel Dust could only get short bursts of strength due to her adrenaline. In the movie, her strength is permanent and she clearly has superhuman stamina to go with it, allowing her to fight ComicBook/{{Colossus}} in hand-to-hand combat on even terms (which the comic character never did).
** In the comics, Negasonic Teenage Warhead is a psychic with the powers of telepathy and precognition, neither of which really warrant the over-the-top name. Her name is made significantly more fitting in the film, since she has the power to emit extremely powerful waves of heat energy, like Cannonball.
* AdaptationalHeroism:
** Minor example. While Deadpool is still a HeroicComedicSociopath, his love for Vanessa is presented as his biggest redeeming factor, and the movie goes to great lengths to show that [[NeverHurtAnInnocent he would never hurt anyone who doesn't deserve it]]. Contrast that with the comics, where Deadpool [[LoveableSexManiac sleeps around constantly]], and he has been known to work for supervillains on the odd occasion. Here, the most despicable thing that he does is to [[PokeThePoodle stiff his cab driver]] and [[ComedicSociopathy force Blind Al to assemble IKEA furniture]]. Well, he's also pretty sadistic murdering helpless mooks. And he advises his taxi driver Dopinder to kidnap and kill a romantic rival, which the man takes seriously. But anyhow, he doesn't do all the stuff he does in the comics.
** A ''very'' minor example exists in Jeremy Garrett, whose comics counterpart Gavin was a JerkJock turned pizza delivery boy who started a heinous rumor about a girl from his school nine years prior that ruined her life, the details of which are so hideous that they're never shown to the reader, but just ''hearing'' the rumor was enough to turn the other person in the room against him instantly. Jeremy by comparison is "merely" a stalker. Due to the relative lightness of his crimes, Wade also merely scares him into stopping rather than outright kill him like Comic Deadpool does to Gavin. Jeremy is also just a teenager, so Wade treats him as more of a dumb kid who needs to be scared straight instead of an actual bad person. Gavin, by contrast, was a grown adult who ''still'' refused to feel guilt for his actions even after hearing how it had ruined the girl's life, and Wade, while maintaining his jokey demeanor, felt visible disgust and contempt for him.
* AdaptationalNationality: Ajax is English rather than American here.
* AdaptationalSuperpowerChange:
** Deadpool lacks his malfunctioning teleporter and his use of {{hammerspace}}[=/=][[AssShove "lube"]].
** Negasonic Teenage Warhead has a completely different superpower than her comic book version. Though she was originally portrayed as a telepath with limited precognitive abilities, the film gives her the power to generate destructive blast fields of concussive energy.
* AdaptationalVillainy: Angel Dust is a semi-heroic character in the comics, while here she's a straight-up villain.
* AdaptationDyeJob: Weasel has light brown hair instead of his usual black.
* AdaptationExpansion: The CG test that got the film greenlit gets this treatment in the highway fight.
* AdaptedOut:
** To make the movie more self-contained (and leave some room for any future films on the Weapon X project), Deadpool's power is from his own innate mutation rather than from Wolverine.
** In the comics, Vanessa is a mutant shapeshifter with mimicry abilities codenamed Copycat. Here, she's just a regular human. (On the production features of the DVD, director Tim Miller says this was left open for future development.)
** Bob, Agent of HYDRA, gets a cameo in the film, but rather than being an agent of HYDRA ([[Franchise/MarvelCinematicUniverse for obvious copyright reasons]]), he's just a mercenary Wade knew prior to becoming Deadpool.
* AdvertisedExtra: For the first time in any Marvel film, Stan Lee is featured on one of the posters (shown above). He's even included in the opening credits, albeit as just "A Gratuitous Cameo."
* AffectionateParody: Of superhero origin movies, starting from the opening credits ''with the credits themselves''. Deadpool mocks the [[ThreePointLanding "superhero landing"]] as impractical, has fun at the more classically heroic X-Men's expense, and Deadpool's heroics are played for bloody laughs. It's almost a {{Deconstruction}}, but it's having too much damn fun.
* AllOfThem: Right before Wade goes on his final RoaringRampageOfRevenge at the climax, when he's found out [[spoiler:Ajax has kidnapped Vanessa]]. This is humorously subverted later in the movie, where [[spoiler:Deadpool forgets to bring the duffel with ALL THE GUNS in it to the fight, leaving him with only his katanas to fight with.]]
-->'''Deadpool:''' [[TranquilFury I need guns.]]\
'''Weasel:''' Okay, which ones?\
'''Deadpool:''' I need [[SuddenlyShouting ALL THE GUNS!]]
* AmmunitionConservation: During the highway confrontation, Deadpool tells Ajax's mooks they will have to share bullets. He then proceeds to try killing them with as few bullets as possible, having only 12.
* AmusingInjuries:
** Since Deadpool is immortal and has a rapid healing factor, he can do a lot of things that would kill or permanently injure other characters, adding to the BlackComedy. This includes him attacking Colossus, which only serves to break both his hands and a leg, one by one -- and then he ''cuts one of those hands off'' to escape handcuffs. The severed hand he leaves behind flips Colossus off.
** Deadpool is also on the dishing-out end of bloody cartoonish violence, like when one of Ajax's mercenaries gets pancaked on an overpass sign.
** During the opening fight scene, one of the mooks shoots Deadpool in the ass -- literally up his ass. Lampshaded in the voice-over/fourth wall break.
--->'''Deadpool:''' Ow! Right up Main Street!
* AndIMustScream: In the final attempt to activate Wade's powers, Ajax sticks him in a decompression chamber designed to keep him suffering on the edge of suffocation, then leaves him there for a weekend. After it succeeds, Ajax decides to leave him in there even longer, just because he likes Wade suffering.
* AntiHero: Wade is kinda new to the whole "morality" thing.
-->'''Deadpool:''' I didn't ask to be super and [[ImNotAHeroIm I'm no hero]], but when you find out your [[ArchEnemy worst enemy]] is [[IHaveYourWife after your best girl]], the time has come [[TheCallKnowsWhereYouLive to be a fucking superhero]].
* AnyLastWords: Asked by Deadpool to [[spoiler:Francis at the end before blowing his head off]].
* AppliedMathematics: Deadpool lampshades himself doing a fourth wall break inside a fourth wall break.
-->'''Deadpool:''' That's like sixteen walls!
* ArcWords:
** A villainous example: "What's my name?"
** "Maximum effort!"
* AreYouPonderingWhatImPondering: Wade thinks Vanessa is about to propose and beats her to the punch, while she apparently was going to request anal sex. She plays it off like she ''was'' thinking the same thing.
-->'''Vanessa:''' Jinx!
* ArsonMurderAndJaywalking:
** Wade's fought in a lot of hellholes over the years, including Baghdad, Mogadishu, and [[OnlyInFlorida Jacksonville]].
** He will threaten you with violence if you're stalking a teenage girl, and also if you have too many sequins on your jeans.
** Francis's predictions for what Wade will be assigned to do as a "super-slave" include terrorizing people, attacking freedom fighters, and mowing the occasional lawn.
* ArtisticLicenseChemistry: Oxygen doesn't burn like that; it requires something to react with, like wood or gasoline. One does not burn in the absence of the other. Throwing a lit match in front of a flow of pure oxygen would merely make the match burn quickly until all fuel (the wood) burned up.
* ArtisticLicenseGunSafety: Surprisingly averted. Despite being a HeroicComedicSociopath, Deadpool is very careful with his firearms (when he's not forgetting them, anyway), and once really chews out Blind Al for pointing a gun at him and Weasel.
* AscendedExtra:
** Negasonic Teenage Warhead is a minor X-Men character who died in her first appearance and has only made a few scant appearances posthumously since. Here, she's a supporting character who eventually teams up with Wade. Naturally, after the success of the film, she was brought back in the comics with a new appearance similar to the film's, and featured as a Deadpool supporting character.
** Colossus; while he's a big fixture in the comics, this is perhaps his biggest role in any of the ''X-Men'' movies to date.
* AscendedMeme: Wade proposing with a ring-pop refers to a popular reblog of a Website/{{Tumblr}} post about ''Avengers''-themed rings, with a black and red ring-pop.
* AssholeVictim:
** Jeremy the pizza guy, who's terrorized by Wade in return for being a stalker.
** Pretty much everyone in the lab completely deserved what they got, as their whole job is basically using ColdBloodedTorture to bring out people's latent superpowers, and while they may seem [[WellIntentionedExtremist somewhat justified at first,]] it's eventually revealed they don't do it to make people superheroes, but [[JerkWithAHeartOfJerk solely for their own personal gain.]]
** Things don't end well for Agent Smith. Then again, he was the recruiter for a program making [[spoiler:super slaves]].
* AnAssKickingChristmas: Deadpool seems to be convinced it's Christmas throughout the film. According to Dopinder, it's actually April.
* AssShove: Vanessa likes to peg on International Woman's Day. It's also implied to be where Wade hides the candy engagement ring when he and Vanessa have surprising news for each other -- he's asking her to marry him, while she was about to ask him to do her anally.
* AttackTheMouth: During the brawl inside the car at the beginning, after burning the forehead of a mook with the car's cigarette lighter, Deadpool forcefully puts it in his mouth.
-->'''Deadpool:''' I never say this... but [[DoubleEntendre don't swallow]].
* AutobotsRockOut: "[[Music/{{DMX}} X Gon' Give It to Ya]]" plays as Deadpool, Colossus, and Negasonic Teenage Warhead prepare to confront Ajax and Angel Dust. After Negasonic interrupts and cuts the music off, Deadpool tells the sound guys to cue it back up.
* AwesomeButImpractical: How Deadpool feels about [[ThreePointLanding "superhero landings."]] It's bad for the knees, you know?
* AwesomeMcCoolName: Deadpool thinks "Negasonic Teenage Warhead" is the coolest superhero name ever. Admittedly, this is why she is in the film at all; the writers were given a list of minor ''X-Men'' characters and they chose her based on that.
* BackgroundMusic: Lampshaded. After teaming up with X-Men Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Deadpool turns to the camera and says "cue the music." [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fGx6K90TmCI "X Gon' Give It To Ya"]] by Music/{{DMX}} kicks in.
* BadassBoast:
** Wade and Ajax both deliver their own boasts to each other before their confrontation.
--->'''Deadpool:''' I hope they [[FeelNoPain blocked pain]] to your every last nerve, [[ToThePain 'cause I'mma go looking!!]]\
'''Ajax:''' I hear you [[HealingFactor grow back body parts]] now, Wade... [[RussianReversal When I'm finished, parts will have to grow back you.]]
** A more typical one when Wade's loading the duffel bag before that:
--->'''Weasel:''' You've got 3,000 rounds.\
'''Wade:''' ''[[[BreakingTheFourthWall to the camera]]]'' You all know what I can do with 12.
* BadassBystander: The various patrons of the BadGuyBar are mercenaries, and don't care much about Weasel and Deadpool's superheroing. However, when Angel Dust and Ajax start threatening the bartender, [[spoiler:they pull out their weapons ''all at once'' and force them to back off. Even for two powerful and ax-crazy mutants, that's a bit too much firepower]].
* BadassLongcoat: Negasonic sports one during the walk into the scrapyard.
* BadGuyBar: "Sister Margaret's Home for Wayward Girls", the bar where mercenaries, enforcers, and thugs hang out and accept contract work. Weasel is the barman. Apparently there's a somewhat sophisticated job-tracking system managed by chipped cards. It also happens to be the one place where threatening the bartender for information might get you killed, [[spoiler:as Angel Dust and Ajax find out]].
-->'''Weasel:''' Um, sweetheart, you might want to look around. This isn't really the place to do something like that.
* BaitAndSwitch:
** Wade walks out of the bathroom of an apartment while the tenant is arguing with the delivery boy about a pizza. He then pulls a gun on the tenant... and says he's really here for the pizza boy.
** During Colossus' "four or five moments" speech. When Colossus comes to "spare an enemy", Wade and Francis exchange a look and nod at one another. For just a few seconds, it seems like Wade might actually turn over a new leaf... [[spoiler:[[BoomHeadshot then he shoots Francis in the face.]]]]
* BaitAndSwitchComment:
** When Deadpool first learns Ellie's codename, Negasonic Teenage Warhead, at first it seems he's going to mock it... but then it turns out he ''loves'' it.
** When Wade shows up at the X-mansion and asks Negasonic if Colossus is home, she makes a snide comment about Deadpool taking him to dinner. For a moment, it seems like Wade is about to berate her by stating that there's nothing wrong with two guys going out together… but then he says that there's nothing wrong with having dinner early in the day or saving money by eating the early-bird special (typically associated with senior citizens).
* BallsOfSteel: A literal example. Deadpool attempts a GroinAttack on Colossus, and gets a broken hand for his trouble. Colossus doesn't even react.
-->'''Deadpool:''' [[ManOfSteelWomanOfKleenex Your poor wife!]]
* BarBrawl: Wade engineers one purely because he had bet against one of the people involved in the Dead Pool and was hoping that this would get him killed.
* BattleAmongstTheFlames: Wade's first fight with Ajax after he escapes the oxygen chamber is one, as the escape is facilitated by an explosion that sets the whole facility on fire.
* BeerGoggles: After Wade finally reveals his face to Vanessa, she replies exactly as one would expect from her.
-->'''Vanessa:''' After a brief adjustment period, and a ''lot'' of drinks, it's a face... I'd be happy to sit on.
* BerserkButton: Ajax hates being called by his real first name, Francis. He takes things personally after Wade learns it and mocks him with it.
* BetaOutfit: Deadpool starts with a white ski-mask and hoodie, then moves to a red costume after realizing he's regularly bleeding all over his clothes, then to the final spandex number when he realizes no-one can hear what the hell he's saying through a thick ski-mask colored in sharpie.
* BetterThanABareBulb: This movie lampshades ''everything''. Particularly Deadpool, but a few other characters do it too.
* BigBad: Ajax is the main villain hunting Deadpool, trying to stop the latter's RoaringRampageOfRevenge.
* BigBrotherMentor: As lampshaded by Deadpool, Colossus is a really, really big brother. He's apparently mentoring Negasonic Teenage Warhead and is trying to do the same for Deadpool.
* BigDamnHeroes:
** Negasonic Teenage Warhead saves Colossus from Angel Dust garroting him.
** Vanessa, suffering from the effects of oxygen deprivation, cutting her own ropes with the blade of a katana embedded in her pod, pulling the katana out from where it's embedded by ''gripping it by the blade with her bare hands'', escaping from the pod, and then saving Deadpool from a NoHoldsBarredBeatdown by impaling Francis.
* TheBigDamnKiss: In the final scene between Wade and Vanessa.
* BigThinShortTrio: The three "superheroes": Colossus (big), Deadpool (tall and thin), and Negasonic Teenage Warhead (short).
* BilingualBonus: Dopinder's romantic rival, his cousin, is named Bandhu. "Bandhu" is actually the [[IronicName Hindi word for "friend"]].
* BitingTheHandHumor:
** Deadpool throws a couple of barbs Fox's way, mainly about ''Film/XMenOriginsWolverine'' and the lack of a budget.
--->'''Deadpool:''' It's a big house, how come I only ever see the two of you [Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead]? It's almost as if the studio couldn't afford another X-Man.
** The opening credits also declare that the movie was produced by "Asshats".
* BittersweetEnding: [[spoiler:Severely downplayed. Ajax gleefully taunts Deadpool that he lied about being able to fix his face, and thus, Wade will remain disfigured for the rest of his life. However, Deadpool gets his revenge and kills Ajax, Vanessa forgives and continues to love Wade, and is also willing to accept his new appearance regardless.]]
* BlackAndGrayMorality: The way Wade sees his actions during his usual mercenary job:
-->'''Wade:''' I'm just a bad guy who gets paid to fuck up worse guys.
* BlackComedy: Deadpool scores some brutal kills, but they're played for laughs.
** In the test footage, he [[GratuitousSpanish introduces himself in Spanish to two mercs]] before he unbuckles one of the {{Mooks}}' seatbelt and kicks him out the vehicle, where the same dude's head is then run over by the back wheel of the SUV they are riding in.
** At the end of the test footage, he holds up a [[TerribleArtist crayon drawing]] of him cutting off a merc's head in front of an actual merc while careening towards him in an out-of-control SUV. He then proceeds to cut the head off of that same merc as the SUV flies over him.
** Late in the movie, Deadpool responds to Ajax telling him to SayMyName with "Ooh, I'm gonna fucking spell it out for ya." He then spells out Francis's real name [[spoiler:using the bodies of his dead mooks, complete with a severed head dotting the "i", with another body ''mooning'' Francis.]]
* BlackComedyRape:
** Wade threatens a stalker with rape. Later, he threatens to shoot Ajax's head and screw the hole.
** During their initial flirting where they both make [[HilariouslyAbusiveChildhood outrageous claims about their fucked-up lives]] to one-up one-another, Wade and Vanessa both claim they were molested as children, among other claims that get more ridiculous as they go on. None of this is treated seriously, and neither is the rest of the film.
** Later, when admiring Negasonic Teenage Warhead's power, Deadpool makes a comment about feeling bad for any guy who tries to pressure her into prom sex.
* BlastingItOutOfTheirHands: Deadpool shoots a ''grenade-wielding'' mook in the hand during the highway shootout. Bonus points for hitting his target while shooting GangstaStyle.
* BlatantLies: When Wade's conversation with Colossus at the scene of the freeway shootout is interrupted by a dead body sliding off of an overhead sign:
-->'''Wade:''' That guy was already up there when I got here.
* BlindIdiotTranslation: The German dub translates Francis's "What's my name?" literally as "Wie ist mein Name?", which isn't technically wrong but sounds rather stilted. One would normally say "Wie heiße ich?".
* BlindShoulderToss: After her Tweet, Negasonic Teenage Warhead just tosses her phone aside. Partially justified, though, since as we see right afterward, using her power vaporizes her clothes with the exception of her X-Men uniform underneath, so the phone would have likely be totaled too if she'd kept it on her.
* BloodFromTheMouth: Deadpool after being impaled by Francis.
* BloodierAndGorier: Than the previous entries of the ''Film/XMenFilmSeries'', with Deadpool [[BoomHeadshot shooting mooks in the face]], impaling them with his swords, [[OffWithHisHead decapitating them]] and then drop-kicking their heads, and more. Also, no PrettyLittleHeadshots either, and there are even a few scenes where the viscera from having their brains blown out can still be seen sitting on the scenery.
* BoastfulRap: Wade gets [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pBcehv2Xh8o one]], which is a re-purposed version of a fan-song done for [[VideoGame/{{Deadpool}} the 2013 video game]].
* BoomHeadshot:
** Deadpool hits three heads with [[OneBulletLeft one bullet]] during a freeway battle.
** Deadpool is fond of capping goons in the skull, as he's shown dispatching another {{Mook|s}} in this fashion with a well-placed shot from between his legs, while laying face-down, after getting {{shot in the ass}}.
* BoomInTheHand: Deadpool manages to kill a large amount of Francis's men by shooting a grenade that one of them is holding.
* BottomlessMagazines: {{Inverted}}; during the famous highway shootout, Wade is left with only 12 bullets between his two [[HandCannon Desert Eagles]]. Should they have been fully loaded, he'd have 16 rounds altogether.
-->'''Deadpool:''' Listen up! I only have 12 bullets, so you're all going to have to share!...
* {{Bowdlerise}}: On Disney+, the strip club scene has noticeable {{Pixellation}} over the strippers' crotches.
* BoyishShortHair: Ellie sports a buzzcut as a visual cue to the audience that her character is not a girly girl. It's lampshaded (like everything else) by Deadpool, who makes a Music/SineadOConnor joke about it, as well as referencing Creator/SigourneyWeaver by comparing Ellie's to Ripley's look from the third "Alien" film. She calls him out for being old in response to that reference.
* BreadEggsBreadedEggs: When Deadpool misses three of his twelve shots; "Ten -- Shit! Nine -- Fuck! Eight -- Shitfuck!"
* BreadEggsMilkSquick: In the Halloween teaser. And yes, he's speaking to kids.
-->'''Deadpool:''' You may be wondering why I brought you here. At some point we must all join forces and become a team. Now, [[HeroicComedicSociopath how many of you have taken a human life]]?
* BreakingTheFourthWall: An essential, must-have, core-of-the-character trait for Deadpool. Counting the opening credits, there are a total of 23 fourth-wall breaks in the film.
** At the start of the film, Deadpool utterly shatters the wall when facetiously referencing how he had to sexually gratify Wolverine to get his own film. He mentions Wolverine having "a pair of smooth criminals down under," switching to an Australian accent to reference Wolverine's ''actor'', the Australian Creator/HughJackman.
** {{Lampshade|Hanging}}d when Deadpool is explaining his current living conditions. He talks to the audience, has a flashback, and then talks to the audience there, too.
--->'''Deadpool:''' Oh. A fourth wall break '''inside''' a fourth wall break. That's like... ''sixteen'' walls!
** Deadpool references ''X-Men'' multiple times. Not the in-universe X-Men team, the ''X-Men'' films.
--->'''Colossus:''' Let us go talk to the Professor.\
'''Deadpool:''' [=McAvoy=] or Stewart? These timelines are so confusing.
** Vanessa takes off Deadpool's mask, and he's revealed to have a picture of Hugh Jackman's face stapled on underneath. Not even in character as Wolverine, just... Hugh Jackman.
* BreatherEpisode: The film was released after a somewhat depressing ''Film/XMenDaysOfFuturePast'' and before the bleak ''Film/XMenApocalypse'' and ''Film/{{Logan}}''.
* BrickJoke: Practically every gag in the film is given either a CallBack or CallForward at some point.
** Early in the movie, Vanessa is turned on by [[Anime/{{Voltron}} the idea of five robot lions coming together to form a larger robot]]. Near the end, when Deadpool says that he, Colossus, and Negasonic Teenage Warhead came together like three robot lions to form a bigger robot, Warhead says that the idea is stupid.
** Wade and Vanessa play some MiseryPoker when they first meet. When he's diagnosed with cancer, she tells him he finally won.
** At the end of the film, after apologizing to Vanessa for first [[ShooTheDog abandoning her when he's diagnosed with cancer]] and then [[InsecureLoveInterest hiding his recovery and survival from her]], Wade attempts a return to their earlier MiseryPoker routine. [[spoiler:Vanessa's willingness to play along indicates that she has forgiven him.]]
** Wade promises to play Wham!'s "Careless Whisper" for Vanessa. He finally gets to do so at the end.
** During the highway fight, a man gets thrown from a car and ''splats'' against a street sign. Several {{flashback}} scenes later, he ''finally'' [[CueTheFallingObject falls onto a car]].
--->'''Deadpool:''' [[ImplausibleDeniability ... That guy was up there when I got here.]]
** In a flashback, it's mentioned that among some rough places Wade did some jobs in, one of them is Jacksonville. At first, it seems like a random little TakeThat, as he later makes a similar one to Detroit. [[spoiler:During his assault against Ajax's masked goons, he stops and realizes one of them is [[MythologyGag Bob]], whom he remembers from a job in Jacksonville. And apparently he wasn't making up the bit about the TGI Friday's.]]
** Wade breaks his hand attempting a GroinAttack on Colossus. [[spoiler:Angel Dust, who has superhuman strength, manages to pull it off with more success.]]
** One flashback has Blind Al saying "I miss cocaine." Before going to confront Francis, Wade tells her that he hid a stash of coke in her house, along with the cure for blindness.
** When Deadpool fast-forwards past the parts of the movie we've already seen and accidentally shows himself masturbating to a stuffed unicorn doll (which is wearing leather chaps), he apologizes for going too far. At the end of Blind Al's introduction, we see Deadpool grab a porn mag, hand lotion, and said unicorn. [[note]]Revealing that he did, as promised, touch himself that night.[[/note]] Then, the end credits have an animated Deadpool riding a unicorn... and masturbating its horn [[DoesThisRemindYouOfAnything until it shoots rainbows]].
** Early in the movie, Deadpool says that the reason he wears red is so "[[BringMyRedJacket bad guys can't see (him) bleed.]]" Later in the movie, during the montage of Deadpool's first forays at hunting down Francis, his white hoodie gets soaked in his own blood and Blind Al suggests he wear red. Also regarding his costume, Al tells him he sounds like he has a dick in his mouth when he's wearing his mask, and another flashback has him interrogating henchmen in a badly-made mask, and wondering if people can hear him through it.
** The "[[BringMyBrownPants brown pants]]" crack made before the highway shootout is brought back when Deadpool is about to fight Francis, who did not dress appropriately: "Motherfucker should've worn his brown pants."
** When Deadpool is told to say Francis's name for the final time, he rubs his hands together and says he's gonna spell it out. After the firefight, Deadpool poses the bodies of the mooks to spell "[=FRANCiS=]", complete with a severed head to dot the "I".
* BringMyBrownPants: After explaining that he wears a red suit "so bad guys can't see me bleed," Deadpool references the other half of the joke before massacring a whole squad of mercenaries. As an experienced merc, [[NoDeadBodyPoops he probably knows that many people poop when they die]].
-->'''Deadpool:''' This guy's got the right idea! He wore the brown pants.
* BringMyRedJacket: Lampshaded. Deadpool references the UrExample joke about not wanting others to see him bleed when explaining why his costume is red. It also helps to conceal the bloodstains at the public laundry, as Blind Al points out.
* BroadStrokes: The movie seems to have this relationship with ''Film/XMenOriginsWolverine'' and the Fox ''X-Men'' Film Universe in general. In regards to ''Origins'' it clearly takes place in a separate continuity, but there are enough parallels between the two of them that it can be assumed that at least some of the events of ''X-Men Origins'' happened in Deadpool's past. Deadpool is still played by Creator/RyanReynolds, the X-Men exist in this universe, he has definitely met Wolverine at least once (and recognizes him as Creator/HughJackman), the X-Men mansion looks the same as in the films, and he wonders if he'll see the [[Creator/JamesMcAvoy McAvoy]] or [[Creator/PatrickStewart Stewart]] Professor X and comments on the different timelines being confusing. Ajax's organization is also never explicitly called "Weapon X" in the movie, so nothing contradicts previous continuity outright. But Colossus is completely different from the Daniel Cudmore version, being larger, always in armored form, speaking in a Russian accent, and having a different design. (Though this is not officially confirmed by [[invoked]] WordOfGod, there is nothing in either this film or its sequel stopping the audience from interpreting this as the events of ''Film/XMenDaysOfFuturePast'' altering the series' timeline.)
* BulletTime:
** The entirety of the opening credits is in frozen time, with the camera whirling around a car doing a tumble while Deadpool is fighting some mooks in it, first from an extreme close-up and then slowly zooming away. In addition to the CreditsGag, this allow the viewers to catch plenty of hilarious little details, like a picture of Creator/RyanReynolds in Film/{{Green Lantern|2011}} getup, or Deadpool giving a {{wedgie}} to the one bad guy on a motorcycle while teabagging another.
** Later, when Deadpool is punched across the bridge by Colossus, his sideways flight is shot in slow motion so he can make a couple remarks to the audience.
* ButtMonkey:
** Colossus's main role in the movie is to get mocked and/or punched in the balls by the other, less self-righteous characters.
** As mentioned above in AmusingInjuries, since there's absolutely zero chance of Deadpool dying, much of the movie involves him humorously absorbing injuries that would be career-enders or deadly for anyone whose superpowers don't include a healing factor that makes Wolverine's look sickly.
* BullyingADragon: More a case of a dragon bullying a bigger dragon, but when Deadpool first meets Colossus, he tries punching him, only for Colossus to NoSell his punch and for Deadpool to break his hand in the process.
* CallBack: When Wade and Vanessa meet, they [[MiseryPoker jokingly compete]] to see who has the worst (fictional) DarkAndTroubledPast. Vanessa says she was abused by her uncles, who took turns. When they learn that Wade has cancer, it turns out that Vanessa knows a lot about the disease... because her uncle had thyroid cancer. There is a final callback to this conversation when Wade and Vanessa reunite. Wade tells Vanessa a tale of woe about how he is living in a crackhouse with a family of twelve spooning for warmth, and Vanessa dryly replies, "So you live in a house?" This might also be a reference to Monty Python's [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xe1a1wHxTyo Four Yorkshiremen]] sketch.
* CallingYourAttacks: [[GroinAttack "Cockshot!"]]
* TheCameo:
** Creator/StanLee appears as the MC at a strip club. (The opening credits have him as "[[ParodiedTrope A Gratuitous Cameo]]", particularly as Lee usually doesn't usually appear in adaptations of characters he didn't create.)
** A version of Marrow from the '90s ''ComicBook/XMen'' comics can be seen in Ajax's test facility.
** One of Ajax's random mooks is Bob, although [[PragmaticAdaptation he's understandably not an agent of HYDRA]].
** Creator/RobLiefeld can be seen leaning up against the bar several times in "Sister Margaret's Home for Wayward Girls."
** Technically speaking, Creator/HughJackman retains his status as the only actor to appear in every X-Men movie -- as after the final battle, Wade takes off his mask to reveal that he has a photograph of Jackman's face stapled to his own. Not even as Wolverine, just regular Hugh Jackman.
* CameraAbuse: Wade accidentally flicks gum onto the camera lens while in the back of a cab. He naturally cleans it off.
* TheCanKickedHim: One of Wade's victims is killed on the toilet.
* CanonDiscontinuity: It's in the same canon as the ''X-Men'' films... [[spoiler:at least, the ones that are still canon post-''Days of Future Past'']], but it retains none of the story from ''X-Men Origins: Wolverine'', where Wade Wilson/Deadpool was originally introduced -- unless you count a CutawayGag describing a Weapon XI action figure as "the worst thing that could happen."
* CantDefaultToMurder: Parodied. Wade has Ajax at gunpoint in the climax, and Colossus starts into a PatrickStewartSpeech trying to convince Deadpool to let the man live -- and Wade shoots the villain in the head mid-speech and starts complaining about Colossus monologuing.
* CantKillYouStillNeedYou: Deadpool tries to take Ajax alive because he believes that he can repair his face. [[spoiler:The moment Ajax admits that he can't, his minutes are numbered.]]
* CaptainSuperhero: Wade initially suggests his superhero name should be "Captain Deadpool", before deciding just "Deadpool" sounds much better. It also gets used in the "Deadpool Rap" that plays during the subsequent montage.
-->''Sexy motherfucka (Deadpool) (Deadpool) / Captain Deadpool (Nah, just Deadpool)''
* CastingCouch: Discussed. "Whose balls did I have to fondle to get my own movie? Can't tell ya -- but it rhymes with Polverine!" [[note]]Yes, [[http://www.thefreedictionary.com/polverine "polverine" is a word.]][[/note]]
* CasualDangerDialogue:
** Deadpool's trademark is snarking while in the midst of combat. During the car battle while getting his face slammed into a car seat:
--->'''Deadpool:''' [[Creator/RicardoMontalban Rich Corinthian leather]]...
** While getting punched around by various mooks, Deadpool also holds up a [[TerribleArtist crude crayon drawing]] of himself killing Ajax.
--->'''Deadpool:''' Have you seen this man?
** In the middle of a car crash, he wonders aloud whether he left the stove on.
* CasualHighDrop: Lampshaded and played for laughs as Angel Dust leaps off the aircraft carrier before the end battle:
-->'''Deadpool:''' ''[applauding]'' Wooooo! [[ThreePointLanding Superhero landing]]! ''[to audience]'' You know, that's really hard on your knees. [[AwesomeButImpractical Totally impractical]]; they all do it.
* CatchAndReturn: During their climactic fight, Deadpool catches one of Ajax's axes and hurls it back at him.
* CatUpATree: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-6gCrniSEdc One promo clip]] shows Deadpool fetching a cat from a tree. There is a short BaitAndSwitch that he's about to shoot the cat, but then he does it the traditional way, by climbing the tree.
* CelebrityParadox:
** Creator/RyanReynolds is featured on the cover of ''People'' magazine in the opening credits, and Deadpool discusses his acting career at one point. An image of Reynolds as Film/{{Green Lantern|2011}} is visible during the opening credits, too.
** Creator/HughJackman similarly appears on the cover of a magazine, while this movie takes place in the same universe as the ''Film/XMenFilmSeries'', where he plays Wolverine.
** Weasel mentions ''Film/BladeII'', a film based off a Marvel character who has crossed paths with the X-Men and Deadpool before, and all of whom exist in this universe. Reynolds also starred in its sequel, ''Film/BladeTrinity''.
* ChairmanOfTheBrawl: During the BarBrawl caused by Wade, a completely new bar stool get smashed as one of the patrons uses it as an ImprovisedWeapon. Weasel is displeased.
* CharacterCatchphrase:
** Deadpool likes using the phrase "Maximum effort!"
** Ajax likes regularly asking Wade, "What's my name?"
* ChekhovsGun:
** Blind Al's dinky little holdout pistol, [[spoiler:which is the only gun that Deadpool has on his person rather than in the duffle bag when going to confront Ajax, and so ends up the only gun he has available when he leaves the bag in the taxi]].
** Early on in the film, Weasel puts up a photo of Wade and Vanessa together on the wall behind the bar. [[spoiler:This later helps Francis and Angel figure out Vanessa is important to Wade, and they track her down.]]
** When we first meet Angel Dust, she always has a match in her mouth. A little later on, when he's strapped into the decompression chamber, [[spoiler:he headbutts her as she's tightening his straps, and manages to catch the match without her noticing. After the bad guys leave, he uses the match to blow up the chamber and escape.]]
* CigaretteBurns:
** Deadpool pushes this one step higher by using not a cigarette but the car lighter against a mook, first by burning his forehead, and then by tossing it into his mouth.
--->'''Deadpool:''' I never say this... but don't swallow.
** Also part of Wade and Vanessa's MiseryPoker.
--->'''Vanessa:''' Ever had a cigarette put out on your skin?\
'''Wade:''' Where ''else'' do you put one out?
* ClusterFBomb:
** While the last few ''X-Men'' films have a [[PrecisionFStrike one f-bomb each]], ''Deadpool'' is rated R, and has over a dozen f-bombs in the trailer alone.
** According to [[http://www.kidsinmind.com/d/deadpool.htm Kids in Mind,]] the film has "about 84 F-words and its derivatives, 3 obscene hand gestures, 21 sexual references, 34 scatological terms, 19 anatomical terms, 8 mild obscenities, name-calling (crazy, weird, stupid, idiot, tool, hooker, mutants, douche-pool, douche, ugly mug, fugly mug, ugly cockroach, maggot), exclamations (shut-up, wow), 2 religious profanities (GD), 9 religious exclamations (e.g. Oh My God, Oh God, God, Jesus, Jesus Christ, I Swear to God)."
** Once Wade learns Vanessa's been kidnapped, the next scene consists largely of him screaming "Fuck!" while Weasel tries to get him to calm down.
** Wade implores Colossus, about Angel Dust, to "Finish fucking her the fuck up!", which causes Colossus to chastise Deadpool for his language. Deadpool responds, "Suck a cock!"
* TheCoatsAreOff: A variation. Negasonic wears a BadassLongcoat and a turtleneck over her X-Men uniform on the way to the final battle. However, both are incinerated the instant she ignites her powers to fight Angel Dust.
* ColdBloodedTorture: How Ajax "activates" the mutations of his test subjects.
* CollapsingLair: The helicarrier on which the climax takes place eventually topples over.
* ColorCodedCharacters:
** Black must be Ellie's favorite, because that's the only color she wears when she's not in her X-Men uniform.
** Lampshaded when Weasel wonders if Ajax and Angel Dust are looking for clothing that isn't monochromatic. See MovieSuperheroesWearBlack below.
* CombatPragmatist:
** Deadpool constantly sucker-punches his foes when they think he's been downed, and has no problem [[GroinAttack going below the belt]]. He's also forced into being pragmatic when he faces a freeway full of {{mooks}} with only 12 bullets.
** Angel Dust uses Colossus's chivalry to punch his groin. The effects are rendered in glorious slow-motion CGI.
* ComedicWorkSeriousScene: This is a superhero comedy whose [[ProtagonistTitle titular]] AntiHero is a master of BreakingTheFourthWall. The scene in which [[BigBad Ajax]] tortures Wade to unlock his mutation is PlayedForDrama.
* ComesGreatResponsibility: {{Parodied|Trope}} in the one of the film's taglines: "With great power comes great irresponsibility."
* CommonalityConnection: Wade and Vanessa click instantly because they both share a similar sense of [[BlackComedy sick humor]] and irreverent outlook on life, as seen in their first meeting where they immediately bond by attempting to [[MiseryPoker one-up each other]] with increasingly terrible (and implausible) [[HilariouslyAbusiveChildhood tales of childhood abuse]].
-->'''Wade:''' Your crazy matches my crazy, big time, and we're like two jigsaw pieces, you know, with the weird curvy edges.\
'''Vanessa:''' But you fit them together and you see the picture on top.
* CompositeCharacter:
** Negasonic Teenage Warhead's powers are very similar to those of Cannonball. This is likely an [[TheArtifact Artifact]] leftover from earlier drafts, where Cannonball held her role as Colossus's partner.
** Ajax (a.k.a. Francis), the sadistic, [[TheBrute brutish]] warden who tortures his inmates and bears a grudge against Wade, is fused with Doctor Killebrew, the scientist in charge of the facility who gave Deadpool his powers.
** In the comics, Weasel is Deadpool's weapons supplier, best friend, confidante, and punching bag. Here, he does all that plus fill Patch's role in charge of the BadGuyBar at the former Sister Margaret's School for Wayward Children (a.k.a. the Hellhouse).
* ContinuityNod: The X-Jet appears to be a modified SR-71 Blackbird, just like the one seen in ''Film/XMenFirstClass''. We also get a look inside the mansion, including the big metal X-door that opens and closes automatically. When Colossus and NTW walk through it, we hear the ''X-Men'' ThemeSong from the movies.
* ContinuityReboot: For Deadpool, as this film completely ignores his appearance in 2009's ''Film/XMenOriginsWolverine'' (outside of taking potshots at it). This is because ''Film/XMenDaysOfFuturePast'' has already rendered ''Origins'' CanonDiscontinuity.
* CoolOldLady: Blind Al. She holds her own in banter with Deadpool, casually gives him advice about how to get blood out of clothes, carries a holdout gun in her sock, and generally couldn't give less of a shit about Deadpool's morally dubious superheroing activities.
* TheCorrupter: Deadpool semi-accidentally acts as one to Dopinder, the cab driver that pops up a couple times throughout the film. He ''pretends'' (very badly) to be horrified with the results (kidnapping a love rival), but in reality, he's ''delighted'', and even a bit proud of the cabbie's progress.
* CountingBullets: Done in multiple directions.
** When Deadpool enters a fight with only two pistols, there are more opponents than he has rounds, so he invites the audience to count them down with him. The rounds are even stamped with their numbers in order.
--->'''Deadpool:''' I only have twelve bullets, so you're gonna have to share!
** A mook pursues Deadpool while firing his assault rifle on full auto, rounds a corner to find Deadpool reclining like an art model, and has an easy shot. He pulls the trigger, but the mook is out of bullets and hasn't reloaded.
--->'''Deadpool:''' Someone's not counting. ''[casually shoots him]'' Six.
* CoverInnocentEyesAndEars:
** At one point Deadpool does this to the ''audience'' by [[NoFourthWall turning the camera away]] from an especially gruesome torture scene.
** Deadpool tells Negasonic to look away when removing his underwear during the FinalBattle. Later, when Wade talks about having a super penis, Colossus calls him out for his language because "a young one is present."
* CoversAlwaysLie: PlayedForLaughs. A handful of promotional posters poked fun at the Valentine's Day weekend release date by painting the film as a romantic comedy starring Wade and his girlfriend Vanessa.
-->'''Tagline:''' Deadpool: True Love [[HealingFactor Never Dies]].
* CrapsackWorld: In Wade's cynical observation, "Life is a series of train wrecks, separated by brief, commercial-like moments of happiness."
* CreativeClosingCredits: The film features both creative opening and closing credit sequences. The opening credits poke fun at the character tropes featured in the movie, and the closing credits show an animated Deadpool fooling around, making jokes about the actors, and prancing about the screen on a unicorn.
* CreditsGag:
** The opening credits are all this -- along with jokes about the producers, writers, and director, the actors are each listed by their character trope instead by name.
--->Some [[Creator/RyanReynolds douchebag's]] film, starring [[SelfDeprecation God's perfect idiot]], a [[MsFanservice hot chick]], a [[EvilBrit British villain]], the [[PluckyComicRelief comic relief]], a [[EmoTeen moody teen]], a [[SerkisFolk CGI character]], and a [[TheCameo gratuitous cameo]]. [[ScrewedByTheNetwork Produced by asshats]], [[WriterOnBoard written by the real heroes here]], and [[BitingTheHandHumor directed by an overpaid tool]].
** Then the ending ones have an animated sketch of Deadpool doing funny stuff. Plus, some people earn "Special Thanks (with tongue)."
* CrosscastRole: In TheStinger, Deadpool suggests Creator/KeiraKnightley for the role of [[spoiler:Cable]] in the sequel.
-->'''Deadpool:''' Why not? She's got range.
* CueTheBilliardShot: The scene at the bar where the recruiter approaches Wade starts with a pool table shot.
* CueTheFallingObject: After the highway fight in the beginning, Deadpool is trying to convince Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead that nobody got hurt... just as a corpse drops from an overhead traffic sign.
* CurbstompBattle: Deadpool fighting Colossus. Barehanded. Most of the "fight" consists of a bemused Colossus watching Deadpool break his appendages against his impervious body, and it only ends when the giant metal Russian gets tired of Wade's quips and smacks him across the highway with a single blow.
* CurseCutShort: Wade invokes this shortly before passing out to reveal that he has cancer.
-->'''Wade:''' What the fu-- ''[passes out]''
* CursedWithAwesome:
** The experiment on Wade has, in his own words, made him "[[NighInvulnerability totally indestructible]] and [[FacialHorror completely unfuckable]]." Due to his own vanity, Wade sees it more as a CurseThatCures.
** Blind Al also recognizes ups and downs to her condition: she doesn't have to see Wade's face (or his [[TakeThat Crocs]]), but she hears everything. Especially Wade's frequent masturbating.
* DamselInDistress: Vanessa is very keen on defying this one, saying it's not a role she's up for playing, and the second Red Band trailer shows her decking [[TheDragon Angel Dust]] in the face. Given that Angel Dust is later seen scoring an OHKO on ''Colossus'', [[BrokeYourArmPunchingOutCthulhu it likely had no effect]], but [[PluckyGirl Nessa gets points for trying]].
* DamselOutOfDistress: Ultimately, Vanessa manages to free herself on her own. Plus, she [[spoiler:stabs the BigBad InTheBack]]!
* DarkActionGirl: Angel Dust can hold her own against Colossus.
* DarkerAndEdgier: Despite the silly tone of the film, the part where Wade is forced into a mutation is so grim that he says to the audience that he was wrong. This is a horror movie.
* {{Deathtrap}}: Ajax uses the oxygen chamber as one of these for [[spoiler:Vanessa]].
* DeconstructiveParody: The film shows [[WrongGenreSavvy how ineffective Colossus's morals would be]] in a DarkerAndEdgier film, but at the same time, it's also a DenserAndWackier film, and he does get some good moments.
* DefeatByModesty: Inverted. [[spoiler:Colossus, being a ChasteHero, respectfully covers his eyes when he sees Angel's WardrobeMalfunction, which she's polite enough to thank him for while correcting... but not ''so'' thankful as to let him know when she's ready again.]]
* DemotedToExtra: The fellow prisoner that Pool shares a meaningful moment with plays a much greater part in Deadpool's original backstory, and is in fact one of the pivotal pillars to Deadpool becoming who he is. In the movie, he's reduced to two (heartwarming and meaningful, but still just two) brief scenes.
* DenserAndWackier: To the rest of the ''Film/XMenFilmSeries'', with its tons of black humor, fourth-wall breaking, and overall silliness.
* DentedIron: Almost literally. Unlike the pristine Colossus from earlier films, this one has a few dents and scratches in his metal skin.
* DepthDeception: Deadpool is seen on a Zamboni pursuing an injured bad guy crawling on the ice. It looks like he's just about to run the guy down, until the shot changes to a long side view. Then we see that the guy has already trailed blood across the better part of the ice surface while Deadpool is slowly following with still ''half'' the rink between them.
-->'''Deadpool:''' Tell me where your fucking boss is or you're gonna die! ''[camera change]'' In ''five minutes!''
* DidYouActuallyBelieve: Once [[spoiler:Deadpool has Ajax beaten and bloody and at his mercy and demands to be cured, he taunts him with this. Deadpool counters that [[YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness it wasn't a good idea for Ajax to eliminate the only reason he was still alive]].]]
* DiegeticSwitch: Wham!'s romantic "Careless Whisper" fades over from Wade's cellphone to the soundtrack in TheBigDamnKiss closing shot.
* DieOrFly: Ajax's superhuman creation program is based on this trope, by putting his subjects into situations of constant pain and near-death in order to force their dormant mutations to activate.
* DisabilitySuperpower: Blind Al complains about her superior hearing skills which makes it hard for her not to overhear Deadpool masturbating in his room.
* DiscontinuityNod: As befitting Deadpool being a constant FourthWallObserver.
** He makes multiple jabs at ''Film/XMenOriginsWolverine'' due to its InNameOnly take on his character and the film's poor reception. At one point, there is even a small glimpse of an [[spoiler:action figure that looks like ''Origins''[='=] version of Deadpool]].
** He's also well-aware of the CosmicRetcon that happened in ''Film/XMenDaysOfFuturePast''; when Colossus says they're going to see Professor X, Deadpool replies, "[[Creator/JamesMcAvoy McAvoy]] or [[Creator/PatrickStewart Stewart]]? These timelines are so confusing!"
* {{Dissimile}}: Wade's explanation of his relationship with Al.
-->'''Deadpool:''' Al's like the Robin to my Batman... Except she's old. And black. And blind.
* DistinguishedGentlemansPipe: At the end of the Trailer Trailer, Deadpool tries to put one in his mouth. [[EpicFail Since his mask covers his mouth, it immediately drops out.]]
* DistractedByTheSexy: Weasel is supposed to be helping Wade find Vanessa. When he comes back from the bathroom, he finds Weasel feeding singles to a stripper with no idea where Vanessa has gone.
* DoNotCallMePaul: Ajax hates being called by his real name.
* DoubleEntendre:
** Deadpool putting the car's cigarette lighter in the mook's mouth: "I've never said this, but don't swallow."
** The "fists" joke between Deadpool and Ajax in the final battle.
** Wade's comment about the FlyawayShot at the end being the only thing pulling out that night.
* DoubleTake: Played for laughs. [[spoiler:When Ajax frees himself after getting pinned to a wall]], Deadpool, who was busy arguing with Colossus and NTW before noticing, turns his head back and forth between the empty wall and Colossus about ten times.
* DramaticAmmoDepletion: PlayedForLaughs; during a shootout on a highway, one of the bad guys starts shooting at Deadpool with their rifle after he peeks his head out from behind a car. He shoots at him all the way until he runs up to Deadpool afterwards and takes aim, only to discover that he emptied his magazine on the car. Deadpool points out his stupidity [[BoomHeadshot and promptly shoots him in the head.]]
-->'''Deadpool:''' Someone's not counting.
* DramaticUnmask:
** For the audience, when Deadpool takes off his mask for the cabdriver and shouts [[FacialHorror "BOO!"]]
** Then at the end of the movie when Vanessa removes the mask... only to find Deadpool has stapled a photograph of Creator/HughJackman's face onto his own underneath it.
* TheDreaded: Deadpool's bad-guy hunting has apparently made a big enough impact that as soon as "Agent Smith" sees him, [[ScrewThisImOuttaHere he immediately makes a run for it.]] It's also implied that he was the cause of the big disruption to Ajax's "supply chain".
* DualWielding:
** Deadpool with his twin katanas or twin pistols (if he remembers to have them).
** Ajax also favors this, but with axes.
* DyingAlone: After Weasel sees Deadpool's face for the first time, he assures him that he will die alone... if he could die.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Tropes E to Q]]
* EeriePaleSkinnedBrunette: Ellie is fond of goth-style make-up, which creates a greater contrast between her fair skin and dark brown hair.
* EmbarrassingFirstName: Deadpool constantly makes fun of the fact that Ajax's real name is "Francis", to the point where he '''exclusively''' calls him that. But once he demands that he "say my name", Deadpool doesn't give him the honor of reciting it.
* EnormousEngagementRing: PlayedForLaughs when Wade proposes to Vanessa with a Ring Pop.
* EpicFail: Deadpool attempts to fight Colossus by repeatedly punching and kicking the latter's metallic body, which results in him breaking both hands and a foot without Colossus moving a muscle.
-->'''Deadpool:''' Ow! ''Fuck!'' Your poor wife!\
'''Colossus:''' You really should stop.
* EroticEating: A variant: on Thanksgiving, Wade and Vanessa have sex while feeding each other bits of pie and the like and getting it all over each other's faces.
* EstablishingSeriesMoment:
** The opening credits make it clear that the movie is going to be rather different from the ''X-Men'' movies. Deadpool himself tells the audience that he's not the kind of hero they're used to from previous ''X-Men'' films.
** On another note, with the exception of Deadpool's [[FourthWallObserver Fourth Wall Observations]] and dialogue that is a little raunchier than the norm, it starts out looking like most ''X-Men'' movies. It's easy to (at first) think that they got an R rating so that they were free to make some of the jokes befitting [[HeroicComedicSociopath Deadpool]], and maybe drop more than one F-bomb. Then, at the end of the car chase, the wedgied biker gets [[OffWithHisHead decapitated by his bike's chain]], and another guy turns into red paste on an overhanging street sign, just to make it clear that no, it ''earned'' that rating.
* EveryoneHasStandards:
** Wade, who has been tortured by Ajax in order to engage any possible mutant genes, snarking all the way, is ''horrified'' at the revelation that Ajax takes desperate people like Wade, often already trained killers, who have no other options and, after putting them through his grueling process, [[spoiler:sells them to the highest bidder as super-soldier slaves]]. Ajax then adds that he's going to start torturing Wade ''again'', not because there's any more need for it, [[ForTheEvulz but just because he can]].
--->'''Wade:''' What the fuck is ''wrong'' with you?
** The patrons at the BadGuyBar will happily bet on each others' deaths and start deadly fights with each other over small insults, but when Weasel is threatened by an outsider, they all immediately stand up and draw their weapons to defend him.
* EveryoneIsArmed: When Francis and Angel Dust burst into Weasel's bar to shake him down for intel on Wade. This being a mercenary bar, as soon as Angel Dust lays hands on Weasel, the entire clientele pulls guns on them.
* EvilBrit: Ajax has an English accent, and he's the first example of a British BigBad in the movie series. He's even credited as "British Villain".
* EvilWearsBlack: {{Zigzagged}}. Angel Dust and Ajax, the two main villains of the film, wear black, but not all the time. Ajax even wears white at times. When they try to shake down Weasel at his bar:
-->'''Weasel:''' [[LampshadeHanging You don't want any clothes that are not monochromatic?]]
* ExecutiveMeddling: {{Invoked}}. Fox chopped the movie's budget by '''$7 million''' despite filming already nearing completion, and the writers turned it into a series of jokes:
** NTW and Colossus are the only X-Men in the movie -- there isn't even a [[WolverinePublicity five-second]] Creator/HughJackman cameo.
--->'''Deadpool:''' It's a big house. It's weird I only ever see two of you. Almost like the studio couldn't afford another X-Man.
** A big ''Matrix''-lobby scene gunfight was planned before the confrontation with Ajax, but they ran out of money. So though Wade demands "[[AllOfThem all the guns]]" when Vanessa is kidnapped, he ''leaves the bagful of guns in the taxi''.
** In TheStinger, [[spoiler:Deadpool mocks the audience for expecting a preview or even a Creator/SamuelLJackson cameo -- instead he just ''tells'' everyone the sequel has been greenlit, and that ComicBook/{{Cable}} will be in it]].
--->'''Deadpool:''' Well, we don't have that kind of money.
* ExplainExplainOhCrap: PlayedForLaughs when Weasel is trying to come up with a nickname for Wade. When he offers "Mr. Neverdie", he realizes that he put all his money in the dead pool on Wade... who will ''never die''.
-->'''Weasel:''' Ah, shit.
* ExpressiveMask: Deadpool's costume uses CGI to make the eyes move.
* FacialDialogue: Ellie is close to a SilentSnarker with her deadpan, [[FascinatingEyebrow raised-eyebrow]] reactions to all the madness taking place around her.
* FacialHorror: Wade's new HealingFactor goes into overdrive to stop his cancer, which leaves his face (along with the rest of him) horribly scarred.
-->'''Wade:''' Look at me.\
'''Weasel:''' I...\
'''Wade:''' No, look at it.\
'''Weasel:''' No, I don't want to.\
'''Wade:''' Exactly!
* FaceDeathWithDignity: Francis puts his forehead to Wade's gun and asks "What's my name?" after the climax.
* FanDisservice: Naked Wade Wilson pre-transformation? MrFanservice! Naked Wade pre-transformation getting brutally tortured? Not so much. Naked Wade ''post''-transformation getting the crap kicked out of him and [[ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice impaled on a metal pipe]]? Even less so.
* FanserviceExtra: The completely nude dancers running around the strip club.
* FascinatingEyebrow:
** Negasonic Teenage Warhead raises an eyebrow after seeing Deadpool's failed attempts to hurt Colossus.
** Deadpool himself does it after saying "I'm touching myself tonight."
** The Recruiter sports them as well.
* FastballSpecial: Negasonic Teenage Warhead uses her powers to throw Deadpool up to the carrier where Francis is, using an airplane wing as a shield to protect him from the plasma.
* FastForwardGag: After the two HowWeGotHere {{flashback}}s, the film arrives at the taxi scene, and Deadpool fast forwards the scene -- though he briefly ''rewinds'' it instead.
-->'''Deadpool:''' Oh wait, you've already seen this. ''[attempts to fast-forward the scene, but accidentally rewinds it, showing him whining]'' Not this one. ''[fast-forwards too far to show him masturbating under a blanket]'' Whoops! Too far... You weren't meant to see that. ''[rewind]''
* FeelNoPain:
** Ajax's mutation burned out his nerve endings, in contrast to Wade's HealingFactor. He casually bends steel without damaging his muscles and tendons through overuse, and is able to run and fight effectively not long after being stabbed through the shoulder or through the leg, without his injuries getting worse or visibly handicapping his performance.
** Though Deadpool is more noticeable for his extraordinary HealingFactor, he ignores pain at certain times despite this not being a definite ability of his. It's noticeable when he cuts [[AnArmAndALeg his own hand off]] with no difficulty after being cuffed by Colossus. His bad-guy-hunting montage also has a {{mook|s}} shoot him in the back a few times, yet he shows no visible signs of reacting to the shots. Except possibly annoyance.
* FingerFraming:
** After knocking Ajax off his motorcycle and preparing himself to kick him in the head, Deadpool takes aim by looking through a frame formed by his fingers.
** He does it again with Vanessa after catching a knife in his head.
* {{Fingore}}: When Colossus tries to apprehend Deadpool near the beginning, Deadpool unwisely tries [[BullyingADragon punching Colossus as hard as he can,]] and only succeeds in breaking every bone in his hand, although his HealingFactor quickly fixes this.
* FireForgedFriends: Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead start out as [[HeroAntagonist hero antagonists]], and even try to arrest him. Later on, they agree to help him fight Francis once [[spoiler:Vanessa is kidnapped, and they realize how horrible Francis really is.]]
* FixFic: In their marketing campaign, Creator/TwentiethCenturyFox is pretty up-front about the fact that this movie is meant to undo all the unpopular changes to Deadpool in ''Film/XMenOriginsWolverine''. Deadpool even [[NoFourthWall references it]] in the [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QPZHBjyUGhQ trailer trailer:]]
-->'''Deadpool:''' From the studio that inexplicably sewed his [[PrecisionFStrike fucking]] mouth shut the first time...
* FlashbackBPlot: Combined with HowWeGotHere. The present-day battle on the highway against Francis's goons is interspersed with flashbacks telling Deadpool's origin story.
* FlatCharacter:
** The writers didn't give Angel Dust any depth. There's three things about her: she's Ajax's second-in-command, she's easy to provoke, and she's a CombatPragmatist who exploits Colossus's gentlemanly behavior when she suffers a WardrobeMalfunction.
** Negasonic lives up to her billing in the credits as "a moody teen". That's pretty much the extent of her character (with the addition that she also kicks ass when required).
-->'''Deadpool:''' So, what's it gonna be? Mean comment or brooding silence?\
'''NTW:''' [{{Beat}}] You've got me in a bind here.\
'''Deadpool:''' BOOYA!
* FlippingTheBird:
** This is Deadpool's reaction to a motorcycled mook putting a bullet hole into his arm.
--->'''Deadpool: MOTHERFUCKER!'''
** When he decides to cut his own wrist in order to escape from Colossus's manacle, Deadpool leaves his severed hand in a flipping-the-bird position as a parting gift to the X-Man.
* FlyawayShot: The movie ends with a zoom-out shot from the kissing lovers, lampshaded by Wade.
-->'''Deadpool:''' Now, let's finish this epic wide shot. Pull out. There we go, that looks nice. [[DoubleEntendre That's gonna be about the only thing that's pulling out tonight]].
* {{Foil}}: Colossus is this to Deadpool, as he's a [[NiceGuy polite]] and [[TheHero morally upright]] character, while Deadpool is a {{Jerkass}} {{AntiHero}}.
* ForTheEvulz: After successfully triggering Wade's mutation via ColdBloodedTorture, Ajax decides to continue torturing him, "Not because I have to... because I ''want'' to."
* ForcedFriendlyFire: Deadpool uses a mook to shoot the mook driver in the knee during the car chase sequence.
* ForeShadowing:
** After Deadpool counts down his 12 rounds in the opening fight sequence, he puts the muzzles of both guns up to his nose, inhales the cordite, and says "I'm touching myself tonight." [[spoiler:Not long after that, he cuts off his hand to escape Colossus, returns home, and tells Al that she may want to leave the room after she comments on the size of his hand.]]
--->'''Wade:''' [[spoiler:''[whispering to Al]'' I bet it feels huge in this hand!]]
** When Deadpool, Colossus, and NTW confront Ajax and Angel Dust, Ajax tells Deadpool to SayMyName (a CallBack to Wade's "activation" in the workshop). Deadpool mutters "I'mma spell it out for you." [[spoiler:After dispatching the group of mooks, a shot from Ajax's viewpoint shows Deadpool standing next to the bodies of nine mooks, arranged to spell out "Francis". The letter "I" is dotted with a mook's severed head. And one of the corpses is ''mooning'' him.]]
--->'''Ajax''' [[spoiler:''[to Vanessa]'' Does he write you notes, too? He's such a romantic!]]
* FreezeFrameBonus:
** The first time we see Ajax/Francis, the crate he is sitting on bears industrial warning stickers showing that the contents are radioactive, an electrical hazard, flammable, a biohazard, ''and'' corrosive, all at the same time. [[spoiler:Which makes a lot more sense when you realize that inside the crate is a mutant super-slave being shipped off to his/her new owners, and probably has some or ''all'' of these powers.]]
** The dead pool board, if examined closely, has some names of celebrities on it. Even Creator/RyanReynolds is [[CelebrityParadox on it]]!
** During the highway fight scene, several big names at Marvel show up on highway signs, such as Ditko, Liefeld, and Nicleza.
* AFriendInNeed: Ajax and Angel are in the bar trying to find Wade, but Weasel isn't telling them anything. Angel grabs Weasel in a NeckLift to force him to talk. The very moment she touches him, everyone in the bar pulls their guns, fingers on their triggers and ready to go. Weasel tells her what she just did was a bad move. Ajax plays it nonchalantly, but he knows when to fold 'em, and he and Angel quickly leave.
-->'''Weasel:''' Thanks for having my back, guys.
* FullFrontalAssault: During his first fight with Ajax, Wade removes his tattered hospital robes when they catch fire, and he has nothing underneath.
* FurnitureAssemblyGag: Deadpool lives with a blind roommate, who he provides room and board to in exchange for providing the full-time service of assembling IKEA furniture.
* {{Futureshadowing}}: Ajax mentions a ''disruption'' in his chain of monthly supply to one of his clients and tells him that he will provide in two months. [[spoiler:It's later shown that he is creating superpowered slaves and selling them to the highest bidder, but one of his subjects (Wade) destroyed his facility and has been hunting down people in his organization, leading to the breakdown.]]
* GanglandDriveBy: Invoked for laughs by Wade when he farts while walking past his blind roommate Al and says "[[HashtagForLaughs #DriveBy]]."
* GangstaStyle: Deadpool pulls off BlastingItOutOfTheirHands (on a ''grenade'', no less) this way.
* GentleGiant: Colossus is friendly, hilarious, and towers over everyone. Angel Dust responds to his gentlemanly behavior towards her with, "Aww, how sweet." [[spoiler:It still doesn't stop her from delivering a [[GroinAttack sneak attack]], though.]]
* TheGhost: Dopinder's cousin, Bandhu. He's first mentioned at the beginning of the movie, then during the second taxi ride he's locked in the trunk, and we hear a groan when the cab hits a pothole, but he's never seen. [[spoiler:He's still in the trunk when the taxi's rear-ended.]]
* GoingCommando: Deadpool does this in the climax because he'd removed his underwear earlier to use as a WhiteFlag before offering Ajax's mooks an opportunity to surrender. This is lampshaded in advance:
-->'''Deadpool:''' Dudes! Hey! Hey! You only work for that shit-speckled Muppet fart! So, I'mma give you a chance, if you all'd lay down your firearms, in exchange for preferential, bordering on gentle, possibly... even lover-like treatment?\
''[mooks start shooting again]''\
'''Deadpool:''' Fine. Commando! ''[runs out of hiding and starts slaughtering the mooks]''
* GondorCallsForAid: When Deadpool prepares to go rescue Vanessa, he stops by the X-Mansion to ask Colossus and Negasonic for help.
* GoneHorriblyRight: Ajax's experiments on Wade succeed in creating a mutation that grants him a powerful {{healing factor}}, which is exactly what allows Wade to survive everything thrown at him while [[RoaringRampageOfRevenge hunting Ajax down]].
* GoryDiscretionShot: Lampshaded (like just about everything else). While hunting for Francis, Deadpool tracks down the recruiter who brought him into the program in the first place. Once he catches the guy, Deadpool turns the camera away himself so that we don't get to see what he does.
* GratuitousSpanish:
** In the test footage, Deadpool breaks into Spanish for no reason.
--->'''Deadpool:''' ''¡Hola! ¡Me llamo Piscina de la Muerta!'' (Hello! My name is pool of the death!)
** When hunting down Ajax's goons, Wade repeatedly asks them where his boss is. In one scene, he asks in Spanish "¿Donde está Francesca?" instead. [[note]]Yes, Francesca is a ''female'' name. And it's ''Italian''.[[/note]]
** He counts his fifth bullet as "cinco" during the 12 bullets battle.
** After surviving the destruction of the workshop, Deadpool explains "It didn't just give me the cure to 'el cáncer' (a CallBack to him asking Weasel if he knows what the word for cancer is in Spanish), it gave me the cure to 'el ''everything''.'"
* GrayRainOfDepression: Downplayed. It rains outside the apartment after Wade learns about his late-stage cancer.
* GrievousHarmWithABody: During the final fight Deadpool decapitates a mook and punts the head into another mook.
* GroinAttack:
** Deadpool punches Colossus in the crotch, [[BallsOfSteel only to break his hand trying]].
--->'''Deadpool:''' Cock-shot! '''''[[[SickeningCrunch CLANG!]]]''''' OW! ''[grabbing his hand, which is now limp and broken at the wrist]'' Your poor wife!
** Executed successfully by Vanessa on "Fat [[Literature/TheLordOfTheRings Gandalf]]" for being rude to her.
** Executed successfully by [[spoiler:Angel Dust after she takes advantage of Colossus's modesty to sucker-punch him]].
* HairFlip: Deadpool pretends to do a hair flip while mocking Negasonic Teenage Warhead's disaffected attitude. (Ironically, NTW's actual [[BoyishShortHair haircut]] is too short for her to do this.)
* HalfTheManHeUsedToBe: Deadpool bisects the last remaining {{Mook|s}} on the highway.
* HandCannon: Deadpool carries a pair of 'em -- IWI Desert Eagles, to be precise -- chambered in .50 caliber Action Express, one of the most powerful handgun cartridges on the market.
* HappyEnding: Lampshaded by Wade in the final moments of the movie.
* HashtagForLaughs: Wade farts while passing his roommate Blind Al, and remorselessly declares "#[=DriveBy=]."
* HateSink: [[BigBad Ajax]] is a high ranking member of the Weapon X program, and the one responsible for Deadpool's creation. Under the guise of making those that come under his care "superheroes," he subjects them to weeks of torture to awaken their newly mutated genes before selling them off to the highest bidder. Kidnapping Vanessa and locking her in an oxygen chamber, he laughs maliciously, and he later reveals that there was no cure for Deadpool's transformation.
* HealingFactor: Unlike in the comic, Wade gains this through his latent mutant genes being activated, not because he's treated with Wolverine's genes. Either way, he puts it to good use throughout the movie, first to heal his cancer and then regenerating after an explosion, or from severe beatings, bullet holes, broken legs, a severed hand (that one takes a while), stabbing (including once in ''the brain''), etc.
* HellBentForLeather: Ellie is usually seen in a black leather jacket or longcoat.
* HerBoyfriendsJacket: Vanessa wears Wade's red fleece jacket over her {{stripperific}} bartender outfit during the climax, since she put it on to go talk to him in the alley behind the club (actuall Francis tricking/kidnapping her).
* HeroicComedicSociopath:
** In the test footage, Deadpool uses the severed head of a {{Mook|s}} to perform an impromptu puppet show.
** In the R-rating announcement clip (framed as a segment from the celebrity news show ''Extra''), Deadpool kills Mario Lopez with a stage light in part for Lopez's role in ''Series/SavedByTheBell''.
--->'''Deadpool:''' Fuck you, [[Series/SavedByTheBell Slater]]!
** During his second conversation with Dopinder, Deadpool [[spoiler:congratulates and encourages him for his plan to kill his romantic rival, further suggesting that he kidnap the girl too]].
** When Deadpool kills a guy at about two miles an hour, in an ice rink, [[ImprobableWeaponUser on a Zamboni]], which makes even himself laugh at the absurdity.
--->'''Deadpool:''' Hahahaha... you're... you're about to be killed by a Zamboni!
* HeroAntagonist: Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead start out as this, as they see Deadpool killing a bunch of people and just assume he's AxeCrazy and has to be stopped. Eventually, they come to realize he is completely justified in hating them and join him during the final battle.
* TheHeroDoesntKillTheVillainess: With the exception of Bob, all the male villains are mercilessly killed by Deadpool. Angel Dust, the only woman among the villains, is spared.
* HollywoodDensity: Deadpool fills a duffel bag with a great many guns (mostly long arms) and what is stated to be 3000 rounds of ammunition. Unless composed entirely of puny .22's, the ammo alone would weigh about 100 pounds, with the weapons themselves adding an equal amount. While this is nothing a SuperStrength character couldn't handle, the bag he puts it in sits high up on his back as if it were filled with clothes.
* HonorBeforeReason: Colossus suspends his fight with Angel Dust so she can correct a WardrobeMalfunction, which she uses as an opening to [[GroinAttack sucker punch him in the crotch]]. Deadpool says that his philosophy of sparing enemies is stupid.
* HookerWithAHeartOfGold: Vanessa. She works as a stripper, and has a heartwarmingly loving relationship with Wade. In the end of the movie, she accepts Wade fully for all that he now is, disproving his fears that she'd reject him.
* HotterAndSexier: The movie is a lot more explicit than the other installments of the ''Film/XMenFilmSeries''. A number of [[FanserviceExtra fully nude strippers]] are seen in a club, there's an extended sex montage, and Wade's penis is seen.
* HowWeGotHere: ''Twice''. The film opens with a revolving shot of Deadpool hijacking a car in the middle of a bridge. The film proceeds to show how he got there, from boarding a taxi to stopping in the bridge. After falling into a truck, it then flashes back to much earlier, showing his SuperheroOrigin. Once we get back to the taxi, the film [[FastForwardGag fast-forwards back to the truck scene]]. Deadpool [[LampshadeHanging lampshades]] this:
-->'''Deadpool:''' And we all know how this goes.
* HugeGuyTinyGirl: A non-romantic example in the massive, towering Colossus and his trainee, the short Negasonic Teenage Warhead.
* HypocriticalHumor:
** Wade starts by roughing up a kid for stalking, then admits in the third act that he's been stalking Vanessa.
** Wade begs that his superhero suit not be green or animated as jab against ''Film/GreenLantern2011''. While not green, his superhero suit heavily relies on CG animation.
* IdealHero: Colossus is as moral and straight-edged as an Eagle Scout, providing direct contrast to the morally grey and irreverent Deadpool. He's a doting "really, really big brother" figure to Negasonic Teenage Warhead, chastising her for language and giving her a protein bar when she's skipped breakfast. He stops fighting Angel Dust when she falls out of her top. He also delivers an "IfYouKillHimYouWillBeJustLikeHim" speech to Deadpool about being a hero.
* IfIDoNotReturn: Before confronting Francis in the climax, Wade tells Al: "If I never see you again, I want you to know that I love you very much. I also buried 1,600 kilos of cocaine somewhere in the apartment right next to the cure for blindness. Good luck."
* IfYouKillHimYouWillBeJustLikeHim: Colossus delivers one to Deadpool, saying that "four or five moments" such as these are the difference between being a hero and whatever Deadpool is. [[spoiler:Even Ajax rolls his eyes at the speech, and Deadpool kills Ajax without even letting Colossus finish.]]
* IfYouThoughtThatWasBad: Ajax tortures Wade for months to trigger his mutation, to no avail. Wade calls him out on this, making Ajax put him in a low-oxygen chamber in order to induce enough trauma to do the deed. The hypoxia triggers Wade's powers while inducing generalized tissue death on his skin, destroying Wade's outward appearance. The main plot drive is Wade's hunt for Ajax in order to get this fixed to be able to face Vanessa.
* IHaveYourWife: Ajax kidnaps Wade's former lover, Vanessa, to draw him out.
* IKnowMaddenKombat: Deadpool wants to finish off [[spoiler:Ajax]] with a good old-fashioned kick to the head, and imagines himself as an American-football placekicker:
-->'''Deadpool:''' A hush falls over the crowd as rookie sensation Wade Wilson lines up the shot. His form looks good...
* ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice:
** In the film's introduction, Deadpool stabs a {{mook|s}} with two katanas, holding him up like a "fucking kebab."
** [[spoiler:Ajax impales Wade Wilson with a metal pipe during their duel in the test facility, and thanks to Wilson's new powers, he survives the impalement.]]
* ImprobableWeaponUser: Wade will kill bad guys with anything he can find: cigarette lighters, pool cues... zambonis.
* InformedDeformity: The reaction of characters to Wade's face after he becomes Deadpool is rather exaggerated. He's disfigured, but he looks like a burn victim (and a rather moderate one at that) or someone with a really unfortunate skin condition. Other characters make comparisons to [[Franchise/ANightmareOnElmStreet Freddy Krueger]] or avocados having DestructoNookie.
* InherentlyFunnyWords:
** The only reason the movie features two different scenes of Al and Wade arguing about IKEA furniture is that Swedish names sound ridiculous when you're English-speaking. The fact that Al and Wade pronounce them incorrectly also helps.
** One of the mooks that Wade tracks down and kills while searching for Francis was killed in an ice rink by Deadpool driving a... ''Zamboni''.
** "Chimichanga" makes its contractually-obligated appearance.
* InMediasRes: The film [[spoiler:starts out at the beginning of Deadpool's RoaringRampageOfRevenge on Ajax]] before cutting to the first HowWeGotHere sequence. Essentially, it switches back and forth between the second and first acts until the point where Deadpool gets his powers, and then the third act is uninterrupted.
* InstantIllness: Wade's late-stage cancer comes out of nowhere.
* InstantlyProvenWrong: After the highway fight in the beginning, Deadpool is trying to convince Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead that nobody got hurt... just as a corpse drops from an overhead traffic sign.
-->'''Deadpool:''' [[ImplausibleDeniability That guy was already up there when I got here.]]
* InsultBackfire: Deadpool wholeheartedly agrees with or thanks Weasel after every insult Weasel makes about Deadpool's scarred appearance.
-->'''Weasel:''' Motherfucker, you are hard to look at.\
'''Deadpool:''' Like a testicle with teeth.\
'''Weasel:''' You look like [[Franchise/ANightmareOnElmStreet Freddy Krueger]] face-fucked a topographical map of Utah.\
'''Deadpool:''' Exactly!\
'''Weasel:''' You look like an avocado had sex with an older avocado.\
'''Deadpool:''' ''[{{beat}}]'' ... Thank you.
* IronicName: As Weasel lampshades, Chastity the stripper has one of these.
* JackBauerInterrogationTechnique:
** Parodied as Deadpool wants to know where Francis is. Deadpool tortures a man bloodied and crawling across an ice rink with a Zamboni... but is half the rink's length away, thus allowing Deadpool to give him a five-minute warning.
** None of his victims answer with Francis's location, because either they don't know it or they don't realize Deadpool is referring to "Ajax" -- the only name they are likely to know Francis by. The fact that he shows some of them a crude stick-figure crayon drawing labelled "Francis", as though that would help them recognize the man he's looking for, doesn't help any, nor that, when beating up Latino thugs, he asks them, "¿Donde está Francesca?"
* KatanasAreJustBetter: Deadpool uses a pair of Japanese swords.
* KickThemWhileTheyAreDown: After knocking down Ajax from his motorcycle in the highway scene, he proceeds to spend a good minute exercising this trope while narrating his actions in a sports announcer tone.
* KilledMidSentence: Given a twist in that [[spoiler:Ajax]] wasn't even talking, and it is [[spoiler:Colossus]] who was in the middle of a speech when [[spoiler:Deadpool gets tired of listening and executes Ajax like he meant to before Colossus started trying to convince him to take him in alive]].
* KnightKnaveAndSquire: Colossus is the Knight, the idealistic X-Man who encourages Deadpool to be a better man; Deadpool is the Knave, a CombatPragmatist who is a [[HeroicComedicSociopath heroic comedic sociopathic]] mercenary; and Negasonic Teenage Warhead is the Squire, an X-men trainee under Colossus's wing.
* KnowWhenToFoldEm: When everyone in Weasel's bar pulls a gun on Ajax and Angel Dust for threatening Weasel, the two quietly leave. Despite both having superpowers, neither is ImmuneToBullets.
* KubrickStare: Negasonic Teenage Warhead has a pretty effective one, particularly during the TeamPowerWalk into the shipbreaking yard.
* LadyLooksLikeADude:
** Wade/Deadpool invokes this with regards to Angel Dust; he compares her to José Canseco, and later claims that she is [[BrawnHilda "too much dude"]] for him.
--->'''Wade:''' You're kinda strong for a gal, aren't you? I'm calling wang.
** When Ajax has Angel Dust remove the tape on Vanessa's mouth, she replies "Thanks, dickless." Then she clarifies that she's actually talking to Ajax.
* LancerVsDragon: At the end of the film, Deadpool fight the BigBad Ajax, while his allies Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead take care of Ajax's [[TheDragon Dragon]] Angel Dust.
* LaughOfLove: Vanessa and Wade tend to do this when they're enjoying spending time together, particularly during sex. [[spoiler:Vanessa also laughs quietly when she says that she'll get used to Wade's scarred appearance at the end of the film.]]
* LawyerFriendlyCameo:
** The movie has a surprise cameo from Bob, Agent of HYDRA, but without any explicit reference to HYDRA ([[ExiledFromContinuity as HYDRA is part of the]] [[Franchise/MarvelCinematicUniverse MCU]]).
** [[spoiler:The scrapped helicarrier where the final battle takes place was originally supposed to be [[Franchise/MarvelCinematicUniverse specifically a S.H.I.E.L.D. helicarrier]]]], but Fox couldn't get permission from Disney. If you look carefully, there ''are'' gigantic jet turbines flanking the hull.
** Cartoon Deadpool hangs [[ComicBook/SpiderMan upside down from a spider-web]] in the credits.
* LeaningOnTheFourthWall: Though Weasel isn't aware he's in a film like Wade post-mutation, he still comments at one point, "Deadpool, sounds like a fucking franchise." He also earlier states, when referring Wade to the recruiter, "You should talk to him, it might further the plot" -- which [[PlotDevice is exactly what he does.]]
* LeftTheBackgroundMusicOn:
** The music ("Angel of the Morning") playing during the BulletTime sequence in the opening is later shown to be coming from the bad guys' car radio.
** At the end, as Wade and Vanessa are kissing, Wham!'s "Careless Whisper" song is heard... to Vanessa's puzzlement. Wade shows her that it is playing on his cell phone (as he had promised her more than a year earlier).
* LemonyNarrator: The opening credits, which list the characters not by actor name, but by character trope (see CreditsGag above).
* LetsDance: Deadpool says this just before a major fight, and then he clarifies that by it he means "Let's try to kill each other."
* LettingTheAirOutOfTheBand: The epic soundtrack comes to a halt when Negasonic notices that Deadpool left his ammo bag in the cab. Then Deadpool turns toward the camera and tells it to restart.
* LifeOrLimbDecision: PlayedForLaughs. When he's cuffed by Colossus, Deadpool cuts off his hand rather than be taken to Professor X. He even leaves the severed hand with the middle finger up as a parting gift. However, he grows a new hand, pretty much overnight.
-->'''Deadpool:''' You ever seen ''Film/OneHundredAndTwentySevenHours''? Spoiler alert!
* LighterAndSofter:
** Despite being an R-rated movie with gore, cursing, and nudity, this film is still a comedy unlike the rest of the ''X-Men'' movie franchise, which are more straight-forward action films that can be a bit morose, even if they're rated PG-13.
** Also, Wade's relationship with Blind Al. In the comics, she was his prisoner following [[NoodleIncident a particular mission that should otherwise have ended in her death]], and mind games and torture were a regular part of their living arrangement. Here, they're just roommates with a dash of VitriolicBestBuds for flavor.
* LineOfSightName: Wade and Weasel are brainstorming aliases for the former. They then happen to glance at the blackboard of the latter's BadGuyBar "dead pool" (bets on which merc will be the next to die) which inspires the former to call himself...
-->'''Wade:''' [[CaptainSuperhero Captain]] Deadpool!\
'''Weasel:''' ''[beat]'' Just Deadpool.\
'''Wade:''' Just Deadpool.
* LiteralCliffhanger:
** When Negasonic Teenage Warhead propels Deadpool upon the deck of the helicarrier with her power, he doesn't lands straight on it, but is left dangling from the edge and has to climb up the rest of the way by himself. Thankfully, the piece of debris he was riding upon already killed the three mooks that could have stopped him.
** Later, after Negasonic's explosion topples the helicarrier, Deadpool ends up dangling from the oxygen-deprivation tank where he puts Vanessa for her safety, the whole thing only secured by a rope. And then a container slides toward them, forcing the two into a long fall.
* LockAndLoadMontage: As Deadpool collects his weaponry for the final confrontation. Too bad he then forgets his ammo bag in the cab.
* LodgedBladeRemoval:
** Deadpool impales Francis through the leg with his katana, which goes all the way through his leg and into the concrete lane divider of the highway. Francis can't pull the sword out because it's wedged too deeply into the concrete, so he breaks off the hilt. This lets him pull his leg off of the sword, instead of pulling the sword out of his leg.
** Toward the end, Deadpool gets a knife lodged into ''the side of his skull'', giving him hallucinations. He yanks it out, but in this case it's the best thing to do, considering his HealingFactor, which can even heal brain damage.
* LowSpeedChase: Deadpool cripples one of the big bad's associates on a hockey rink and chases him down on a Zamboni to make the whole thing as comedically sociopathic as possible.
-->'''Deadpool:''' '''TELL ME WHERE YOUR FUCKING BOSS IS! OR YOU'RE GONNA DIE!''' ''[{{beat}}]'' '''IN FIVE MINUTES!'''
* LudicrousPrecision: Deadpool counts the time since Francis turned him into a mutant.
-->'''Deadpool:''' I've been waiting one year, three weeks, six days and, oh... 14 minutes to make him fix what he did to me.
* MaleGaze: "Every time I see her it's like the first time..." ''[shot of Vanessa bending forwards in a short tight skirt]'' "...especially from this angle."
* MajorInjuryUnderreaction:
** Given his sense of humor, and the fact that his HealingFactor gives him a skewed idea of what constitutes a major injury, Deadpool gets a lot of these.
*** In the highway fight, Deadpool's only reaction to having a bullet hole straight through his arm is to [[FlippingTheBird flip the bird]] at the mook who just put it there.
---->'''Deadpool: MOTHERFUCKER!'''
*** Deadpool starts making ''Tyrannosaurus rex'' jokes after busting both of his wrists trying to punch Colossus. Once he breaks a leg, he goes on about "the one-legged man in the ass-kicking contest". It gets to where he's reminiscent of the [[Film/MontyPythonAndTheHolyGrail Black Knight]] with his limbs just being broken instead of gone, not that them being gone would be any more troublesome.
*** Wade is stabbed in the head with a knife, but when he sees his beloved Vanessa, he starts [[MediumShiftGag seeing cute animated animals surrounding her]], makes romantic gestures, and has Music/{{Chicago}} playing in his head. This is implied to be happening because keeping the knife in is preventing his body from healing the brain damage and making him hallucinate.
** Ajax, being [[FeelNoPain immune to pain]], tends to react with nothing more than annoyance to life-threatening wounds, including being skewered by a katana.
* MakingASpectacleOfYourself: In the pizza delivery flashback, Wade steals a flashy pair of green wrap-around shades from Mr. Merchant, then spontaneously tosses them aside after realizing how ridiculous they are.
* MatchCut: Deadpool flying sideways after a punch from Colossus cutting over to the next scene with a Wolverine action figure in the same position.
* MediumAwareness: As expected, Deadpool repeatedly makes reference to the fact that he's in a film, and even tells the audience to [[spoiler:go home in TheStinger à la ''Film/FerrisBuellersDayOff'', no less.]]
* MentorArchetype: Colossus is Negasonic Teenage Warhead's mentor, and as such, he is both much older and more mature. He also tries to guide Deadpool onto a heroic path.
* MetaCasting: Everything Creator/RyanReynolds is makes him absolutely the best person to play Deadpool. "God's Perfect Idiot" indeed.
* {{Metaphorgotten}}: Deadpool's food-based metaphor for giant screens starts to fall apart in the IMAX promo, though he eventually gets back on track.
-->'''Deadpool:''' This ''[points at a chimichanga]'' is your brain... Actually, it's a chimichanga, but I'm making a point. Because ''this'' ''[points at a 500-pound giant chimichanga]'' is your brain on IMAX. BiggerIsBetter, right?
* MetronomicManMashing: Colossus dominates the later part of the fight with Angel Dust once he starts putting some weight behind his hits. Near the end of his winning streak, he overpowers her neck lock attempt and smashes her to the ground repeatedly with a series of choke-slams before finishing it with a haymaker that almost knocks her out. Unfortunately, he loses his momentum once he sees her nip slip, and she sucker-punches him in the groin.
* MidBattleTeaBreak: After Angel Dust punches Colossus a good distance away at the beginning of the final fight, Deadpool turns to Negasonic Teenage Warhead, expecting her to take over for her mentor... except the teen is busy typing a tweet on her cellphone. This grinds the action to a halt until she's finished; strangely, even Angel Dust politely waits for her.
* MindControlDevice: Ajax sticks "loyalty collars" on the mutants he sells. How they work is skipped altogether, so they may be closer to ExplosiveLeash.
* MiseryPoker: Wade and Vanessa hit it off by trying to outdo one another in crappy upbringings.
* MoodWhiplash: The movie is a profane BlackComedy... until Wade and Vanessa fall in love, and their love story is played completely unironically. Then it's back to being a BlackComedy... until Wade is [[ColdBloodedTorture tortured to the brink of death]] by Ajax, and his suffering is PlayedForDrama. Then it's back to BlackComedy when Wade hunts Ajax down. It's lampshaded by Deadpool himself, who variously describes the movie as "a love story", "a horror story", and "a different kind of superhero story."
* MookChivalry: A variation. Angel Dust is hardly a mook, as she's able to drop Colossus with [[OneHitKill one punch]], but when Deadpool implores her to let Negasonic Teenage Warhead finish [[Website/{{Twitter}} tweeting]] before they fight, Angel Dust obliges.
* MsFanservice: In addition to her nude sex scene with Wade, (though with a bit of HandOrObjectUnderwear and SceneryCensor), Morena Baccarin spends a lot of time in quite skimpy outfits (justified as Vanessa is a prostitute who also waitresses at a strip club), with the camera in one scene in particular [[MaleGaze focusing heavily on her butt]].
* MultilayerFacade: Played for laughs. When Deadpool is unmasked by Vanessa, he reveals another Hugh Jackman mask beneath.
* MusclesAreMeaningless: An interesting case. While Angel Dust is [[AmazonianBeauty a powerfully built woman]], she's still significantly smaller than Colossus, and lacks his organic steel skin. Despite this, she matches him in both strength and durability, and can send him flying with a punch.
* MusicalisInterruptus: Deadpool, Negasonic and Colossus are all walking up to confront Ajax as DMX's "X Gonna Give It to Ya" plays-- "Hey, where's your duffel bag?"
* MythologyGag: Has [[MythologyGag/Deadpool2016 its own page]].
* NamedByTheAdaptation: Ajax is usually just known as "Francis" in the comics. The movie gives him the last name [[AlliterativeName "Freeman"]].
* TheNameIsBondJamesBond: How Deadpool introduces himself to a taxi driver. Hilariously, said driver, Dopinder, takes him literally and seems to think his name is actually [[StevenUlyssesPerhero Dead Pool]] (near the end of the film, he receives a call on his cell phone from a number listed under "Mr. Pool").
-->'''Taxi driver:''' Dopinder.\
'''Deadpool:''' Pool. Dead.
* NeckLift:
** Early on, Ajax lifts a mouthy client off the ground, establishing his badass credibility.
** Angel Dust lifts Weasel by the neck and slams him against the liquor cabinet of his bar.
* NeckSnap: Deadpool snaps the neck of a mook with his legs during the car chase sequence.
* NeverHeardThatOneBefore: Wade's reaction when Ajax informs Wade that he's "relentlessly annoying."
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: Deadpool showing Francis his face during the highway scene. Until then, Francis thought that Wade died in the lab that he destroyed. Had Wade never shown his face, Francis wouldn't have had any reason to go after Vanessa. Also, Colossus and Nega interrupting Wade produces some unfortunate results. Had they not intervened, or at least paid attention to Francis, he wouldn't have escaped and wouldn't be able to kidnap Vanessa.
* NiceMeanAndInBetween: Of the main three, Colossus is the nice, as he's always kind and [[TheHero noble-hearted]], Deadpool is the mean, being a {{Jerkass}} AntiHero and [[BloodKnight kind of a psycho]], and Negasonic Teenage Warhead is the in-between (she's [[DeadpanSnarker pretty sarcastic]], but still a lot nicer than Deadpool, and a straight-up hero, if not quite TheParagon Colossus is.)
* NippleAndDimed: [[ZigZaggingTrope Zig-zagged]], likely because it costs more money to show the principal actress's breasts, or they didn't have it in their contract. The strippers at the club are shown with their nipples on full display, but Vanessa and Angel Dust are {{Scenery Censor}}ed by Wade and Colossus's hands, respectively.
* NoBudget: Invoked and lampshaded by Deadpool when he goes to visit the Xavier mansion, only to find Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead are the only people there. It's later parodied again when Deadpool notes that they couldn't afford a special effects-laden [[TheStinger post-credits scene]], either.
-->'''Deadpool:''' It's almost as if the studio couldn't afford another X-Man.
* NoFourthWall:
** In the start of the test footage, Deadpool greets the audience while sitting on an overpass and listening to Gwen Stefani's "Hollaback Girl."
** At the end of the test footage, Deadpool says hi to Tom Rothman, a Fox CEO at the time the test footage was made ([[http://badassdigest.com/2015/02/24/watch-your-back-spidey-tom-rothman-becomes-new-sony-honcho/ who was rumored to have hated Deadpool]]).
** In the Christmas Red Band trailer, Deadpool starts the trailer by pausing it and giving a short explanation on how this isn't your typical superhero movie.
** In the Australia Day promo, Deadpool has a personal grudge against the country of Australia for producing Creator/HughJackman/Wolverine, [[Film/XMenOriginsWolverine whose film]] Deadpool considers a "career low."
** In the movie itself, the fourth wall (or at least the camera lens) is [[CameraAbuse splattered with a piece of gum]] (that Deadpool found on the ceiling of a taxi) less than five minutes after the opening credits.
** One of the best examples in the movie proper is a fourth wall break inside a fourth wall break. Which is lampshaded.
--->'''Wade:''' It's like sixteen walls!
** When Deadpool arrives at Xavier's mansion and sees Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead, he says: "With such a big mansion it's funny how I only ever see two of you. It's almost like the studio couldn't afford another X-Man."
** [[spoiler:When Deadpool catches the recruiter, he turns the camera away himself [[GoryDiscretionShot so that we don't have to see what he does]]]].
* NoodleIncident:
** When Colossus and Negasonic come after Deadpool, he mentions it's not the first time the X-Men have tried recruiting him.
** "Jacksonville", a highly classified mission involving an entire unit of black ops operatives and a TGI Fridays. No other details are given.
** In the first flashback, Wade mentions shitting in someone's kitty litter, despite the owner of the apartment not having a cat.
* NoSell:
** Angel Dust does this to the first few punches from Colossus, and she totally controls the beginning of their fight, until he starts putting in real effort.
** Early on in the movie, Deadpool breaks several body parts trying to injure Colossus. He isn't budged.
--->'''Colossus:''' ''[after Deadpool breaks his leg trying to kick him]'' This is embarrassing.
* NotEvenBotheringWithAnExcuse: Weasel is quite open about his utter disinterest in fights of any kind.
-->'''Weasel:''' I'd go with you... but I don't wanna.
* NotQuiteDead: After his OneHitPolykill with his last bullet, the last mook in the line gets back up, since the bullet didn't get through his skull. Deadpool guts him in short order.
* NotSoAboveItAll:
** Negasonic Teenage Warhead's angsty teenage annoyance façade cracks when she can't help but laugh at Wade's antics against Colossus.
** Ajax, in his text to Wade [[spoiler:telling him to come to him for Vanessa]], adds a shit emoji to conclude his text.
** Ajax takes Wade beyond the point of torture not only because he wants to trigger Wade's mutation, but also (and mainly) because he cannot stand Wade's endless goofing. He stuffs Wade back into the oxygen-deprivation tank for personal amusement, not because he's expecting anything else productive.
** Colossus cannot help being a gentleman even when he's fighting. [[spoiler:This almost costs him the fight against Angel Dust, as he pulls his punches and skews his priorities because ''she's a woman''; it takes Negasonic's attack to finally neutralize Angel Dust and save Colossus]].
* NoYou: Blind Al advises Wade to talk to Vanessa.
-->'''Blind Al:''' Love is blind, Wade.\
'''Wade:''' No, you are blind.
* AnOfferYouCantRefuse: Deadpool drops this line when trying to get Colossus and Negasonic to team up with him.
* OfficialCouple: Wade Wilson and Vanessa Carlysle are engaged. [[spoiler:Not even Wade's hideous mutation will keep them apart.]]
* OffWithHisHead: Wade takes a few heads with his katanas.
** One unlucky motorcycle mook loses his head to his own motorcycle's broken drive chain in the horrific crash in the opening fight.
** In the big final fight, Deadpool beheads one mook, then soccer-kicks the head into another mook's face. He uses it afterwards to dot the "i" of "Francis".
* OhCrap:
** Vanessa, when she and Wade start playing skee ball and Wade casually turns and throws a ball into the highest score cup, overhand.
--->'''Vanessa:''' [[Franchise/ScoobyDoo Ruh-roh!]]
** The goon who shoots Deadpool in the beginning of the "Where's Francis" montage. Think about it. You empty your gun into a guy wearing a white sweatshirt, you clearly see him bleeding out from the gunshot wounds, and he just shrugs it off as if nothing happened, slowly turns around, and comes at you with a sword. In that goon's place, you'd run away as fast as possible, too.
** The recruiter's reaction when he realizes the psycho in the masked outfit coming after him is Wilson.
--->'''Recruiter:''' This isn't going to go well for me, is it...?\
'''Deadpool:''' This isn't going to go well for you, no. ''[glances at camera]'' You're going to want to look away. ''[moves the camera to the side as we hear Smith screaming and see onlookers react in horror]''
* OhNoNotAgain: This is basically Colossus's reaction to news of Deadpool causing chaos yet again.
* OneBulletLeft: In the shootout on the highway, Deadpool has to kill twenty-some-odd mercs, but only has twelve bullets in his guns. By the end of the fight, he's down to one bullet and three mercs, forcing him to go for the triple headshot kill.
-->'''Deadpool:''' I only have twelve bullets, so you're going to have to share!
* OneHitPolykill: Deadpool does this twice: once at the beginning of the freeway gunfight, when he kills "the guy who wore the brown pants" along with a mook behind him; and again at the end, where he does one better, headshotting three baddies with a single bullet. This isn't merely RuleOfCool, either; he only had OneBulletLeft. He only manages to ''kill'' two of them, however - after going through two skulls, the bullet only has enough energy left to nick the third guy, forcing Deadpool to break out his swords.
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness:
** After spending much of the film cracking joke after joke no matter the circumstances, Wade finally loses it when one of Ajax's experiments horribly disfigures his face and when Ajax reveals that [[spoiler:he makes super ''slaves'', not superheroes]].
** Deadpool, normally happy-go-lucky in even the most dire circumstances, adopts a (comedically) serious tone when he tells Negasonic Teenage Warhead to "look away, child" as he pulls off his tighty-whitey briefs ''through his [[GroinAttack crotch]]'' to use them as a WhiteFlag.
* OneWordTitle: Well... Deadpool.
* OralFixation: Deadpool asks Angel Dust if she puts matches in her mouth due to an oral fixation, or 'cause she's [[Film/{{Cobra}} a huge fan of Sylvester Stallone]]. [[ChekhovsGun The match becomes a plot point later]] when [[spoiler:Wade snatches it to set the mutant facility on fire]].
* OrphanedPunchline:
-->'''Deadpool:''' And that's why, in my opinion, the movie ''Film/{{Cocoon}}'' is pure pornography.
* PaddedSumoGameplay: A non-game example. Colossus and Angel Dust both have SuperStrength and SuperToughness, so until [[spoiler:Colossus [[ChasteHero gives Angel Dust a moment to]] [[WardrobeMalfunction adjust]] and leave himself open to a GroinAttack]], the two just ineffectually clobber each other back and forth.
* PetTheDog:
** A quick one; after Wade is diagnosed with cancer, the mercenary he tried to get killed in the BadGuyBar fight earlier buys him a drink.
** When Deadpool recognizes one of Ajax's soldiers in the climax as an old friend (and said old friend has no desire to kill him), he headbutts him and drags him out of the line of fire instead of killing him.
* PhallicWeapon: Theatrical posters show the Merc-with-the-Mouth conspicuously brandishing a Desert Eagle right in front of his crotch.
* PintSizedPowerhouse: Negasonic Teenage Warhead may be small in stature, but her energy bursts can pack quite a wallop; Angel Dust learns this the hard way.
* PoorCommunicationKills: Literally, as during his RoaringRampageOfRevenge, Deadpool consistently asks Ajax' {{Mook}}s "Where is Francis?" Since presumably none of them have heard Ajax use [[DoNotCallMePaul that name]], they honestly do not know what Deadpool means. Perhaps they would have lived if Deadpool had asked them "Where is Ajax?" instead.
* {{Portmanteau}}: Weasel comes up with the word "afrangry" since there seems to be no word for being half-afraid, half-angry.
* POVCam: We get to see the world from Deadpool's viewpoint... just after he's gotten a knife to the brain, and thus is hallucinating cutesy cartoon characters surrounding Vanessa.
* PreAsskickingOneLiner: Deadpool is fond of dropping a quip before eliminating an opponent, like "Daddy needs to express some rage," "This guy's got the right idea! He wore the brown pants," and even "Time to make the [[UnusualEuphemism chimi-fuckin'-changas]]."
* PreViolenceLaughter: Wade calls Jeremy, the pizza guy, out on being a stalker while pulling a knife on him, and tells him that he should never do so again. He complies, and Wade begins to smile and lets him off. Everyone else in the room begin to smile and relax too, jokingly lamenting on how scary it was, but then Wade abruptly pins him to a wall, gets his face close to Jeremy's, and starts to threaten him again with stronger intent. And then he realizes his threat contains an [[invoked]] AccidentalInnuendo, flipping the mood to comedy.
* ProductPlacement: Ikea is the subject of a recurring joke in this film. The company gave permission for their brand to be used on the condition that the filmmakers use genuine Ikea products that are available in stores and catalogs and not simply make up funny faux-Swedish names for cheap laughs.
* PromotionToOpeningTitles: After dozens of cameos in comic book movies and TV shows, Creator/StanLee is for the first time listed in the opening credits as "A Gratuitous Cameo."
* ProtagonistCenteredMorality: Played for laughs in regards to Dopinder's romantic subplot. Deadpool encourages him to pursue a woman he [[EntitledToHaveYou considers to be his rightful property]] even after she willingly went off with his cousin, who is considered a {{Jerkass}} purely because he's good-looking. On Deadpool's advice, Dopinder kidnaps his cousin and plans to either [[DisproportionateRetribution kill or at the very least brutalise him]] just to get his way. There's also the fact that Deadpool was willing to assault a stalker earlier in the film but encourages Dopinder to commit that very same crime because he heard his side of the story.
* PunchCatch: Angel Dust does one to Colossus and crushes his hand as well, while earlier no-selling a few punches from him. This serves to show just how powerful Angel Dust really is.
* PunchClockVillain: Deadpool knows that a group of soldiers are only being paid to do their jobs. He offers them the chance to walk away before he starts killing them all.
* PunchedAcrossTheRoom:
** The climactic fight opens with Angel Dust punching Colossus across the scrapyard.
** Then Negasonic Teenage Warhead returns the favor by blasting Angel Dust into a container with her power.
* PunkInTheTrunk: Dopinder ends up kidnapping his romantic rival and stuffing him in the trunk of his cab. The plan is to murder him and drop the body off at his girlfriend's house, but getting rear-ended probably spoils that plan.
* QuackDoctor: In the film's first act Wade Wilson, who is suffering from cancer, finally reaches his personal DespairEventHorizon when he goes to Mexico to a "psychic healer" and figures out how the doctor does his scam a couple of minutes after being attended. This is what makes him decide to accept the invitation of "Agent Smith" to become part of a SuperSoldier creation program where he will eventually become Deadpool.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Tropes R to Z]]
* RaceLift: Blind Al, who is white in the comics, has an African-American actress, Leslie Uggams.
* RapidFireComedy: Barring a few dramatic and/or romantic moments, the movie is non-stop BlackComedy, [[BreakingTheFourthWall Fourth Wall Breakings]], and {{Lampshade Hanging}}s.
* RealLifeWritesThePlot: Budget issues are the reason why there are only two X-Men in the movie, as well as why Deadpool keeps forgetting his guns and is forced to go hand-to-hand. Naturally, Deadpool can't resist getting in a potshot about the first one.
* RealMenWearPink: Why is [[SoundtrackDissonance "Angel of the Morning"]] playing during the BulletTime sequence in the opening credits? It's what the BigBad's {{Mooks}} were [[LeftTheBackgroundMusicOn listening to on the radio]] when Wade dropped in on them!
* RebelRelaxation: Francis assumes this pose in the back alley behind the strip club where Vanessa mistakes him for Wade.
* RefusalOfTheCall: [[spoiler:Deadpool ultimately rejects his chance to be a hero when he has Ajax at his mercy. Colossus tries to convince him to spare the villain, but Deadpool is unforgiving.]]
-->[[spoiler:'''Deadpool:''' If wearing superhero tights means sparing psychopaths, maybe I wasn't made to wear them.]]
* RequiredSecondaryPowers: In real life, Ajax's inability to feel pain would be a crippling handicap and put him at constant risk of life-threatening injuries. He has to have some sort of HealingFactor to function at the level he does.
* RevealShot:
** PlayedForLaughs. Wade and Vanessa have an intimate discussion early on that seems to initiate a sex scene, complete with "putting balls in holes." [[spoiler:Wade actually uses his allotted 48 minutes of "whatever the fuck [he] want[s]" with Vanessa to play skeeball at an arcade.]]
** At one point, Wade is telling Vanessa about his most prized possession while the camera lingers on an action figure of [[spoiler:the ''Film/XMenOriginsWolverine'' Deadpool]]. Then it pans up to him holding a Wham! album.
* RoaringRampageOfRevenge:
** Wade goes into one to try to find Ajax and force him to fix his face; a lot of dead bodies are left in his wake.
** In a deleted scene, [[spoiler:Wade and Vanessa go to a cancer clinic in Mexico. Wade quickly realizes that it's a scam and kills the "doctor" in revenge, as desperate kids and adults alike are being tricked. However, Wade kills the guy in front of the other patients, stealing their hope. That was the moment Wade decided to call the recruiter.]]
* RockBottom: "Rock, meet Bottom."
* RomanticComedy: While the movie is in most part a SuperHeroOrigin story, and the marketing campaign made fun of its release during Valentine's weekend, [[GenreBusting it actually works surprisingly well as a romantic comedy]]. Many people who feel like their partner is "[[UglyGuyHotWife too hot]]" for them are going to find it very relatable. Deadpool even tells the audience it's a love story as he's kebabing a mook.
* ARoundOfDrinksForTheHouse: Pre-transformation Wade does this, presumably to spite Weasel, who had placed a bet that Wade would be the next mercenary to die. As the bar cheers, Weasel hurriedly declares they're only getting the domestic booze and not the imported stuff. It became obvious that Wade never pays for his drinks at Weasel's bar.
* RRatedOpening: The highway battle, of course, with Deadpool killing a high number of mooks in very gruesome ways, going from snapping their necks to ''very'' graphic headshots, to impaling them like "fucking kebabs".
* RuderAndCruder: Not only is it more profane than any other X-Men film at the time, but it's more profane than the Deadpool comics.
* RunningGag:
** Wade keeps accidentally leaving most of his weapons and ammunition in Dopinder's cab before a big fight.
** Deadpool constantly refers to Ajax with colorful, curse-laden insults (such as calling him a "200-pound sack of assholes").
* RussianReversal: Ajax does a version before his fight with Deadpool. [[ActuallyPrettyFunny Deadpool admits that it's a good one]].
-->'''Ajax:''' I hear you grow back body parts now, Wade... When I'm finished, parts will have to grow back you.\
'''Deadpool:''' Good one. ''[{{beat}}, [[AsideComment then faces audience]]]'' Yep, that's a good one.
* RustproofBlood: Deadpool's original white uniform is still bright red from the blood stains at the laundromat, long after the blood has had time to dry up.
* SaveTheVillain:
** Negasonic Teenage Warhead creates a gigantic energy burst to save Colossus from Angel Dust, triggering a chain reaction of explosions that levels the surrounding buildings. Colossus is next seen carrying the unconscious villainess to safety.
** When Deadpool has Ajax at his mercy, Colossus breaks into a passionate speech to convince the protagonist that he should be a hero and spare his enemies. [[spoiler:Subverted in that Wade just ignores him and assassinates Francis in cold blood before the Russian mutant is done speaking]].
* SayMyName: Wilson discovers Ajax's real name (Francis) and refuses to call him Ajax anymore, leading to Ajax becoming [[ItsPersonal even more sadistic]] while torturing him, bringing this up while giving a BreakingSpeech about the real purpose of their project. He repeats it near the climax, prompting Deadpool to mention he'll spell it out. He does... with the bodies of Ajax's hired soldiers. [[spoiler:Ajax uses his last words to demand of Deadpool "What's my name?" one last time, only for Deadpool to respond, "Who fucking cares."]]
* SceneryCensor: Angel Dust has a WardrobeMalfunction, and an ashamed Colossus blocks his (and the audience's) view of her exposed breast with his hand.
* SelfDeprecation:
** The CreditsGag opens with "Starring God's perfect idiot," and ends with "and directed by an overpaid tool".
** The two {{Take That}}s against ''Film/{{Green Lantern|2011}}'', a movie in which Creator/RyanReynolds previously starred and now considers an OldShame.
** Wade having a Weapon XI action figure and Ajax threatening to sew Wade's mouth shut are self-deprecating take-thats towards ''Film/XMenOriginsWolverine''.
** When Blind Al tries to convince Wade that looks aren't everything, he comes back with, "Do you think Creator/RyanReynolds got this far on a superior acting technique?"
** Deadpool claims the reason Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead were the only X-Men sent to find him is that the film is too low budget to afford the rest of the team. Given its TroubledProduction, that's probably true.
* SelfParody: ''Deadpool'' is 100% a spoof of the Fox ''[[Film/XMenFilmSeries X-Men]]'' films, made by the same people and set in the same universe.
* SequelHook:
** At the very end of the credits, Deadpool describes a few details of the sequel -- most notably, that Cable will be in it.
** There's also a few unaddressed details, like the fact [[spoiler:Angel Dust is still alive and breathing, and Ajax's organization (if we go by the comics, Department H), is presumably still around.]]
* SerkisFolk: Colossus is entirely CGI this time (the opening credits have him as "A CGI Character").
* SeveredHeadSports: At one point, Deadpool is seen soccer-kicking a baddie's [[OffWithHisHead decapitated head]] to pelt one of his buddies from afar.
* SexIsViolence: After shooting three guys in the head with one bullet, Deadpool savors the waft of gunsmoke out of the barrel, and proclaims, "I'm touching myself tonight." And with so many flashbacks in between you'd be forgiven for failing to realize it, but [[BrickJoke he does]]!
* SexMontage: The film has one of Wade and Vanessa's various romps throughout the holidays, which is interrupted by shot of them sitting quietly and reading. "Happy Lent," Wade says.
* ShadesOfConflict: Colossus and Warhead are white (more the former given the latter doesn't speak much); [[AntiHero Deadpool]], [[PunchClockVillain all the mooks he faces and arguably Angel Dust]] are in the grey; and the sadistic Ajax is [[CardCarryingVillain as black as it gets]].
* ShotInTheAss: At one point, Deadpool is shot here by a gunman. He promptly falls to the ground, but the shooter is lured close to his seemingly dead body before Deadpool shoots him from between his legs. Having a healing factor, the shot didn't kill him, but he does go limp for a while, remarking that the bullet went "right up Main Street."
* ShoutOut: Has [[ShoutOut/Deadpool2016 its own page]].
* ShownTheirWork: Brianna Hildebrand made a rock playlist to get into Negasonic Teenage Warhead's frame of mind. Music/MonsterMagnet [[https://twitter.com/briannahilde/status/699696145379897344/photo/1 is featured prominently, of course.]]
* SinisterSuffocation: One of the tortures Ajax puts Wade through is to be locked in a machine that slowly suffocates him, only to eventually give him enough air to keep going. This torture is the one horrible enough to unlock Wade's superpowers, but Ajax also decides to just keep him in there afterwards while he leaves, cementing him as a cruel sonofabitch.
* SirSwearsAlot: There's barely a scene where Deadpool/Wade ''doesn't'' swear.
* {{Slapstick}}: Deadpool, with his HealingFactor, allows this to be played to its best ability on the highway scene with Colossus. Even Negasonic thinks it is funny.
* SlidingScaleOfSillinessVersusSeriousness: While it has serious moments, the film overall is solidly silly.
* SmokingBarrelBlowout: {{Inverted}}. Instead of blowing the smoke away from his guns, Deadpool ''snorts'' it after capping three mooks with one bullet. And then exhales.
* TheSnackIsMoreInteresting: {{Downplayed}}. Francis is introduced with a half-eaten apple in his hand when doing business with the weapon dealer.
* TheSociopath: Ajax, the head of a SuperHumanTrafficking operation that fully admits he can't feel emotions.
* SomethingOnlyTheyWouldSay: Deadpool does this to the recruiter once he's finally cornered him.
-->'''Deadpool:''' [[IronicEcho Forty-one confirmed kills]]. ''Now'' it's eighty-nine. [[ImpliedDeathThreat About to be ninety]].\
'''The Recruiter:''' Mr. Wilson?\
'''Deadpool:''' Ding-ding!
* SomethingWeForgot: Right before the final confrontation, Deadpool, Colossus, and Negasonic Teenage Warhead do a TeamPowerWalk towards Ajax's heavily-guarded base, preparing to kick ass... and then Deadpool realizes he left his duffel bag full of all the guns in Dopinder's taxi.
* SoProudOfYou: Deadpool says this to Dopinder ([[TwoFacedAside between breaths because Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead are there]]) when the cabbie reveals that he's got his romantic rival stuffed in the trunk of his taxi.
* SoundtrackDissonance:
** The opening scene is the complete opposite tone from the scene it is playing over: a BulletTime pan across a car battle scored to "Angel of the Morning" ([[LeftTheBackgroundMusicOn as that was playing on the car stereo]]).
** The Fifties piece "Calendar Girl" will never be the same after watching Wade and Vanessa [[SexMontage have sex throughout the year]] to this song.
** "Mr. Sandman" plays through scenes of Ajax having Wade tortured in order to kickstart his mutation and activate his HealingFactor.
** Music/{{Chicago}}'s "You're the Inspiration" plays over intense scenes in the final battle.
** In the finale, two lovers are reunited to the tune of "Careless Whisper", a song about infidelity.
* SourSupporter: Negasonic Teenage Warhead is mostly there because Colossus drags her along.
* SparedByTheAdaptation: Unlike her comic book counterpart, Negasonic Teenage Warhead doesn't die in her first appearance in the movie verse. (Not that the characters are very much alike anyway.)
* SpectacularSpinning: All over the place in the highway battle. How else are you gonna line up a triple headshot?
* SpiritualAntithesis: To ''Film/TheDarkKnight''. Both movies have a dark and gritty atmosphere with lots of realistic violence just to show the consequences of vigilante work, along with a memorable chase sequence. The difference is that Deadpool has more in common with the Joker than Batman, being a disfigured working class psycho-for-hire who commits horrific acts that he finds hilarious and having no qualms about guns or killing. [[spoiler:''The Dark Knight''[='s=] never-kill message also gets deconstructed, as Deadpool states that if he doesn't kill the person who ruined his life, then what's stopping him from doing it to somebody else?]]
* StealthPun:
** While the trio are doing their TeamPowerWalk to the sound of Music/{{DMX}}'s "X Gon Give It to Ya", the camera pans to [[ChromeChampion Colossus]] just as DMX mentions "stainless steel."
** Also, if you want to stretch the idea, it zooms on Wade (who spends half the movie in Where's Francis mode) when DMX is saying "Knock knock, open up the door." When it cuts to NTW, he's saying "With the nonstop pop-pop" which can be taken THREE ways; the gum she frequently pops in her mouth, the "pop" of her explosive powers, and the fact that all her dialogue is basically "popping off at the mouth."
** The name of the song itself: "X(-Men) Gon Give It to Ya," or perhaps "(Weapon) X Gon Give It To Ya." Or a reference to Agent X, the replacement/spinoff of Deadpool's series where X's identity was sometimes thought to be Deadpool. Or just the fact that Deadpool is carrying his swords in an X on his back.
** During the montage where the Deadpool Rap plays, the line about having "combo moves, evades, and more" plays as Deadpool gets shot in the back. Several times.
* TheStinger: The after-credits scene is where [[MediumAwareness Deadpool tells the people in the audience to go home, since the show's over]] (while dressed as [[Film/FerrisBuellersDayOff Ferris Bueller]] to make sure the ShoutOut is clear). However, he later relents, and uses the time left in the movie to mention that the sequel will bring Cable into the mix.
* StrawMisogynist: "Fat Gandalf" is there to make a crude remark about Vanessa and get a GroinAttack in return.
* StressVomit: Colossus is seen vomiting after Ajax gets his head shot by Deadpool.
* StringTheory: While hunting Ajax in a RoaringRampageOfRevenge montage, Deadpool creates one of these as he eliminates one lead after the other.
* SubvertedRhymeEveryOccasion: "I'm Wade Wilson from Regina, Saskatchewan. Regina, the town that rhymes with fun." ([[http://leaderpost.com/news/local-news/regina-rhymes-with-more-words-than-fun The Canadian city responded with]] "NeverHeardThatOneBefore.")
* SuddenlyShouting: Deadpool when describing his situation after the highway scene.
-->'''Deadpool:''' Some kinds of anger can't be managed. Like the kind where your year-long plan ends with the [[PunctuatedForEmphasis WRONG GUY! GETTING DISMEMBERED!!]]
* SuperSerum: Ajax uses a combination of a serum and severe torture to activate latent mutant genes in his subjects.
* SuperTeam: Deadpool teams up with Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead to take down Ajax, Angel Dust, and their mooks.
* SurprisinglyRealisticOutcome: If a person got stabbed in the head in the right spot and survived, there’s a good chance they would actually experience visual and auditory hallucinations.
* SwordAndGun: Deadpool's costume is equipped with two {{katanas|AreJustBetter}} and two handguns.
* {{Tagline}}: "[[WithGreatPowerComesGreatInsanity With great power, comes great irresponsibility]]."
* TakeAThirdOption:
** When Wade pegs Negasonic as an angsty teenager, he predicts she'll either stick to sullen silence or make a mean comment. She thinks for a moment, and says he's really "got [her] in a box here," to Wade's delight.
** While tussling with two female {{Mooks}}, Deadpool is conflicted over whether WouldHitAGirl or WouldntHitAGirl is more sexist. The film cuts away right after he pulls his gun.
* TakeThat:
** Reynolds takes a dig at ''Film/{{Green Lantern|2011}}'', one of his other superhero films.
--->'''Wade:''' And please don't make the supersuit green. Or animated!
** Another ''Green Lantern'' reference is shown in the opening credits as a picture of him flies out of a mook's wallet, corresponding with the credit "A CGI character," making the above a RunningGag.
** The Deadpool "Trailer Trailer" opens with "[[SelfDeprecation From the studio]] that inexplicably [[Film/XMenOriginsWolverine sewed his fucking mouth shut the first time...]]" This is given a self-deprecating nod in the film itself; as Deadpool is in mid-flight after Colossus throws him into a car, he explains that things could not possibly get any shittier than this moment right here, except for... cut to a toy figurine of Deadpool/Weapon XI from the end of ''Film/XMenOriginsWolverine''. We also get Ajax threatening to sew Wade's mouth closed to shut him up.
** When Deadpool is ready to kill Francis on the bridge.
--->'''Wade:''' I'm about to do to you what Music/LimpBizkit did to music in the late '90s.
** Wade tells Blind Al that, contrary to what she thinks, looks ''are'' everything:
--->'''Wade:''' You ever heard David Beckham speak? It's like he mouth-sexed a can of helium.
** Wade's first suit is a white one that's immediately messed up with annoying bullets, a jab at Deadpool's own CaptainErsatz, Fantomex.
* TalkingIsAFreeAction: When Deadpool, Colossus, and Negasonic Teenage Warhead confront Angel Dust and her [[{{Mooks}} goons]], Ellie invokes what would be more accurately described as "Tweeting is a free action." When Deadpool implores her to go after Angel Dust, she's instead focused on her phone, and every character in the scene stands around waiting until she's finished.
* TeamPowerWalk: Colossus, Warhead, and Deadpool do this to the sound of "[[Music/{{DMX}} X Gon' Give It to Ya]]" before the final showdown. It's parodied in that Negasonic Teenage Warhead ends up noticing Deadpool forgot his gun cache, causing the Power Walk to abruptly stop as Deadpool tries to retrieve it. After giving up on it, Deadpool ''resumes'' the Team Power Walk from the point it left off.
* TemptingFate: Wade bets Francis that things can't get worse from "round-the-clock torture." Oh, how wrong he is.
* ThatCameOutWrong:
-->'''Wade:''' Or you'll find out in the worst way that I have some hard spots, too. ''[{{beat}}]'' That came out wrong. ''[beat]'' Or did it? ''[kisses Jeremy's cheek]''
* ThemeMusicPowerUp: Courtesy of Peter Cetera and ''Chicago''.
* ThemeTuneRap: The [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rNm-_MG0HHc "Deadpool Rap"]], which plays during Wade's RoaringRampageOfRevenge[=/=]BetaOutfit montage.
-->''They call me Deadpool, I'm hella fast\
Came to merc the bad guys, and get some ass\
Got blades for days, got guns galore\
Got combo moves, evades and more!''
* ThreePointLanding: Lampshaded:
-->'''Deadpool:''' ''[excitedly, after seeing Angel Dust standing on a large shipping crate]'' She's gonna do a superhero landing! Wait for it!\
''[Angel Dust jumps down from crate and lands in three-point stance]''\
'''Deadpool:''' ''[clapping]'' Wooooo! Superhero landing! ''[to audience]'' You know, that's really hard on your knees. [[AwesomeButImpractical Totally impractical]]; they all do it.
* ThrowingYourSwordAlwaysWorks: Deadpool, with his two katanas, does this twice in the film.
** First in the highway scene when subduing Ajax, throwing his sword into Ajax's motorcycle front wheel to send it out of control.
** Second in the climatic battle, when Deadpool throws his sword to [[spoiler:crack the oxygen chamber Vanessa is in]].
** Deadpool also performs a couple of knife throws, one while he's working his way through Francis' men midway through the film and another one early in the FinalBattle.
* TokenMinority: Dopinder and Blind Al, Indian and black respectively, are both minor characters who engage in comic banter with Deadpool.
* TooMuchInformation: Deadpool telling Dopinder that the whole world tastes like Mama June after hot yoga makes Dopinder ask what does Mama June taste like, and Deadpool gives an answer that's even more inappropriate and dirtier.
* {{Touche}}:
-->'''Deadpool:''' LOOK! I'm a teenage girl, I'd rather be anywhere than here! I'm all about long sullen silences, followed by mean comments, followed by more silence! So what's it gonna be: long sullen silence or mean comment? Go on, take your pick.\
'''Negasonic Teenage Warhead:''' You got me in a box here.
* TrainingMontage: [[TrainingFromHell The torture montage]] of Wade being turned into Deadpool.
* TranquilFury: At one point, Deadpool calmly states "Daddy needs to express some rage" before firing his pistol at a merc.
* TraumaticSuperpowerAwakening: Invoked by Ajax, who tortures his subjects after unlocking their latent mutations in order to activate them.
* TruerToTheText:
** Than ''Film/XMenOriginsWolverine''. Deadpool wears his traditional comic spandex uniform, his backstory is more in line with his comic origins, and he does a lot more talking.
** This is also the truest to the comics Colossus has ever looked. Tim Miller said the main reason they decided to make the character entirely CGI was so they could capture his improbable height and physique from the comics.
* {{Tuckerization}}: Dopinder was named after a childhood friend of Ryan Reynolds who was struck by lightning.
* TwoFacedAside: When Dopinder admits to kidnapping his romantic rival while Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead are in the taxi, Deadpool is quick to loudly admonish him for his misdeeds, [[ChewOutFakeOut while whispering encouragement and pride between sentences]].
* UglyGuyHotWife: [[DiscussedTrope Discussed]]; after becoming a mutant, Wade Wilson is left with noticeable deformities, and becomes worried that his girlfriend Vanessa won't like him anymore. [[spoiler:Ultimately subverted when Vanessa decides not to worry about it too much by the end.]]
* UnusableEnemyEquipment: Much to his chagrin, Deadpool runs into several situations where he's low on ammo or out of guns, but he never picks up any guns from the mooks he slices up. It's potentially justified by the character's general aversion of ArtisticLicenseGunSafety.
* UnusuallyUninterestingSight: A man in an office watches in an unconcerned manner while Deadpool beats his coworker to death with a safe door.
* UseYourHead: At the mutant facility, Wade gives Angel Dust a headbutt in order to take hold of the [[OralFixation match in her mouth]].
* VileVillainSaccharineShow: "Saccharine" is not the best word to describe the film, but it ''is'' a DenserAndWackier Action-BlackComedy spinoff of the ''Film/XMenFilmSeries'' series full of over the top violence and fourth-wall breaking. Main villain Ajax, however, is played completely straight, with the only humor related to him coming from Deadpool trying to piss him off. Any time he starts getting involved in the action, things get noticeably more serious.
* VillainBall: Ajax reveals to Wade that there is no way to fix Wade's face, even though he knows it was the only reason Wade was keeping him alive, just so he can make Wade suffer a little more.
* VisibleBoomMic: Mocked in TheStinger, where Deadpool makes a gesture and a boom mic comes down for his big announcement [[spoiler:about Cable in the sequel]]. They he pushes the boom mic away, since it's in his face.
* VisualInnuendo: In Brazil, the movie poster comes with a tagline that translates as "Well-loaded pistol." The way Deadpool holds his gun makes Brazilians wonder if the tagline is about the gun or about something else nearby.
* VisualPun: While loading up Deadpool's bag full of "all the guns", his magazines with covers of handsome men are emptied into the bag as well.
* VitriolicBestBuds: Insults between Wade and Blind Al or Weasel are like punctuation.
-->'''Weasel:''' You look like the inside of other people's assholes.\
'''Wade:''' ''[farts while walking away from Blind Al]'' Hashtag Drive By.
* VomitIndiscretionShot: Colossus tells Wade that there are four or five moments in your life where you really can be a hero, regardless of your past, in an attempt to get him to [[spoiler:spare Ajax and maybe join the X-Men]]. This inspiring speech is eventually ruined by Deadpool [[spoiler:shooting Ajax in the head]]. Colossus instantly [[StressVomit loses his lunch]]. You can see some of the vomit, but most of it is covered by him turning away.
* WackyMarriageProposal: Wade proposes to Vanessa using [[WithThisRing a ring pop]] at the same time she [[spoiler:asks him for anal sex]].
* {{Wedgie}}: The opening credits show Deadpool grabbing hold of the back of a mook's underwear... while the mook is flying out of an out-of-control vehicle.
* WhatHappenedToTheMouse:
** The last time we see Dopinder, he's just gotten into an accident with his cousin Bandhu in the trunk and Deadpool's dufflebag with ALL his guns inside riding shotgun. Of course, it's pretty close to the end of the movie, happening right before the climactic final showdown with Ajax, so there isn't much time to follow up with him.
** Likewise, it's not shown what happens to [[spoiler:Angel Dust after Colossus saves her.]]
** Deadpool spares Bob, knocking him out instead of killing him, but he's left unconscious right underneath the supercarrier... which rolls over and crushes everything in the immediate area. Whether Bob survives or not is unknown.
* WhatMeasureIsAMook: Though Wade kills quite a number of people on his way to Ajax, in the opening scenes of StormingTheCastle, he sees a distinction between the man who ruined him and the guys who "only work for that shit-spackled muppet fart" and offers them a chance to lay down their guns... but he may have shot himself in the foot turning his offer for "preferential" treatment into "preferential, bordering on gentle... almost lover-like treatment", and they open up on him. However, he does further recognize one of them, Bob, as an individual, having met him at some point before in their lives.
* WhatTheHellHero:
** A regular reaction by Colossus to Deadpool's shenanigans is a stern lecture. In one particular instance, [[spoiler:when Colossus tries to convince Deadpool to be a hero and spare Francis, Deadpool just shoots Francis in mid-sentence, eliciting this reaction and some [[VomitIndiscretionShot retching]].]]
** [[spoiler:Vanessa]] gets one in at the end, demanding Wade explain himself for [[spoiler:walking out on her and inadvertently putting her life in danger.]]
* WhiteFlag: In the FinalBattle, Deadpool waves his underwear on a stick to make the mooks cease fire.
* WithGreatPowerComesGreatInsanity:
** Being given a HealingFactor causes Wade's cancer to multiply uncontrollably through his entire body, including his brain, which ends up making him completely nuts. He was already pretty crazy to begin with anyway.
** The tagline is a version of this: "With Great Power, Comes Great Irresponsibility."
* TheWorfEffect:
** Francis is introduced pulling a NeckLift on a dangerous-looking weapon dealer, instantly gaining him full respect from the audience.
** Upon seeing Angel Dust, Deadpool proclaims that he's saving himself for Francis (in the trailers, he says that she's [[BrawnHilda "too much dude"]] for him), which is why he brought in Colossus... [[PunchedAcrossTheRoom who is promptly blasted several yards away with a single punch]]. This serves to set up Negasonic's super-powered tackle. Although, it's subverted because Colossus gets up shortly thereafter and proceeds to actually fight Angel Dust on even ground.
* WorldOfSnark: Trim all of the snarky dialog, and the script would be awfully short.
* WorthIt: Deadpool says this after [[CountingBullets wasting two bullets on a dead mook]] who shot him in the ass.
* WouldHitAGirl:
** While on the hunt for Ajax, Deadpool tracks down and assaults two women, wondering aloud whether ''not'' hitting them would be more sexist after one tried to attack him. He does so, while ''clearly preparing to shoot them at point blank''.
** Similarly, Colossus doesn't have much of a problem fighting Angel Dust once she shows that she's as strong as he is and he can't afford to pull punches. Her hitting him in the nuts doesn't help her case either.
* WrestlerInAllOfUs:
** One of Deadpool's numerous cheap-shots on Ajax after knocking him off his motorcycle is a leg drop that even Hulk Hogan would be proud of.
** Ajax pulls off a perfect bridging German Suplex on Wade during their first fight.
* WritingAroundTrademarks: One of Ajax's mooks, who Wade knows from his time in the military, is named [[spoiler:Bob, which is as close the studio could get to including Bob, Agent of HYDRA]].
* WrongGenreSavvy: Colossus. He's extremely nice, principled, and honorable, and in a straight superhero movie he'd be right at home and his TheCape approach would probably function. What keeps tripping him up is that this is ''not'' a straight superhero movie, so the unabashed violence and vulgarity of the setting keeps blindsiding him.
* YouAreBetterThanYouThinkYouAre: Colossus keeps handing out speeches to Deadpool about how there is good in him and how he became a great hero and such throughout the movie, [[ShutUpKirk but Deadpool will have none of it.]]
* YouHaveGotToBeKiddingMe: In the last scene, when Deadpool is about to [[spoiler:execute Ajax]], and Colossus interrupts him with a speech about what it means to be a hero. Even [[spoiler:Ajax]] rolls his eyes.
-->'''Deadpool:''' ''Seriously?''
* YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness: A heroic (well, antiheroic) example. As soon as Francis admits that he can't fix Deadpool's face, [[spoiler:Wade has zero reason to keep him alive. His death follows in minutes]].
* YouNoTakeCandle: Some of Colossus's lines are structured this way.
-->'''Colossus:''' Breakfast is most important meal of day.
* YouOweMe: Deadpool uses this trope to enlist Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead as his backup muscle. He calls them out for their interference, which led to Ajax's escape and Vanessa's subsequent kidnapping.
