''[[https://forums.spacebattles.com/threads/a-devil-amongst-worms-csm-x-worm.1049897/#post-87978560/ A Devil Amongst Worms]]'' is a fanfic by Dellian. It is a crossover between ''Manga/ChainsawMan'' and ''Literature/{{Worm}}''.

After her defeat at the end of ''Chainsaw Man'' Part I, Makima through the intervention of a mysterious figure, arrives in Brockton Bay at the time of Leviathan's assault. From there, things start to change dramatically. Earth-Bet has a new ruler in the works now.

----
!! ''A Devil Amongst Worms'' contains examples of:
* AdaptationalSexuality: While her canon sexuality is unknown, it seems that Bakuda is either a lesbian, bisexual, or pansexual here, although as detailed under AmbiguouslyGay, whether that's her original orientation or not is unknown when regarding Makima.
* AdmiringTheAbomination: Makima certainly has this reaction when she [[spoiler:sees the entities during Lung's Trigger Event.]] She calls the sight marvelous and plans to do some Cape experiments.
* AnArmAndALeg:
** Legend loses both of his legs in a fight against Leviathan.
** Armsmaster later loses an arm to the same Endbringer, like in canon.
* AmbiguouslyGay: Alice, otherwise known as Bakuda, is shown to be both romantically and sexually attracted to Makima, to the point she almost outright propositions Makima for sex, later states that her desired reward for planting the bombs to undermine the PRT is to go out on a date with her, and is very interested in watching Makima get dressed. What makes it ambiguous is that since said scene occurs after she's been brought in by [[CharmPerson Makima]], it's left unclear whether her attraction is part of her original personality, if it's a result of being affected by Makima's CompellingVoice, or even a case of IfItsYouItsOkay or SingleTargetSexuality.
* AndIMustScream: [[spoiler:Leviathan's ultimate fate, as not only is he trapped on Mercury with no way off, the fact that he can only sense things through water combined with the fact that Mercury and space, in general, have virtually no water, means he's effectively trapped forever while also being completely blind, deaf, etc]].
* AndThereWasMuchRejoicing: People around the globe celebrate Leviathan's demise, praising Makima for taking him out. Director Armstrong is described as being on the verge of singing and dancing at hearing the news in his meeting.
* AssholeVictim:
** [[spoiler:Emma]], as while being reduced to LudicrousGibs while cowering alone in fear in your bedroom is definitely an awful fate, considering that she was a sadistic SmugSnake who betrayed her best friend [[spoiler:Taylor]], and went on a one-year-and-half long bullying campaign against her, including defiling the last memento of her deceased mother, and is also known to have [[BullyingTheDisabled bullied a disabled girl]], many readers would probably cheer at her death at Makima's hands.
** While the [[BreakingSpeech verbal]] and [[CurbStompBattle physical]] [[NoHoldsBarredBeatdown beatdown]] that Lung receives from Makima is utterly horrifying, considering the fact that he's a confirmed [[RapeIsASpecialKindOfEvil rapist]] who runs a [[SexSlave forced prostitution ring]], which often [[PaedoHunt preys on underage girls]], it's hard to feel much sympathy for him.
* BadFuture: In one of the Simurgh's visions, we see a description of one three years from the present, where the entire world has come completely under Makima's control. The results are... [[WorldOfSilence unsettling]], to say the least.
* BadGuysDoTheDirtyWork: Makima is the one to permanently defeat [[spoiler:Leviathan]] and drive most of the villains out of Brockton Bay, not that the people of Earth-Bet realize Makima's true nature as a HopeCrusher.
* BastardlySpeech: Makima gives two separate ones: first to the Wards and Undersiders at the shelter and then to Alexandria and Eidolon on the battlefield. They both consist of the valor of humanity being able to defeat Leviathan that wouldn't be too dissimilar to a superhero saying it, despite not having faith in them and is only saying it for her own purposes.
* TheBeastmaster: Makima tells Dragon she can control [[ExactWords "lower lifeforms"]], giving her a Master ranking, and leading the latter to conclude that the former can only control animals. Makima is of course leaving out that she can control anyone she deems lesser than her, including human beings.
* BodyHorror: Makima's first fight with Leviathan ends with her taking a backhand that breaks every bone in her body, completely pulverizes her organs, and leaves most of her brain outside her skull.
* BringMyBrownPants: [[spoiler:Some of the PRT mooks that Makima killed before freeing Lung, soiled themselves in fear before dying.]]
* CallingYourAttacks: Much like in her home series, Makima says "bang" while using her FingerGun. Legend notes she's not the only one to do that on Earth-Bet e.g. Mouse Protector.
* CrackShip: InUniverse, several PHO commenters, upon seeing the footage of Lung coming to Makima's aid against Leviathan, despite having explicitly avoided Endbringer battles in the past, think they might be a couple.
* CurbStompBattle: Makima utterly dominates her fight against Lung, despite the latter gaining more power than he had in Kyushu.
* DatingCatwoman: Subverted. Makima may be dating Bakuda but she does not love her back, she's just monopolizing her for her Tinkertech and is a case of EvilerThanThou.
* DealWithTheDevil: Makima's contracts are essentially this.
* DeliberateValuesDissonance: Downplayed. Makima states that while she enjoys superhero movies, she has no desire to dress like one, believing that they look ridiculous. Director Rennick muses Makima might be experiencing culture shock on Earth-Bet.
* DevilInDisguise: Makima is quite literally this as in the manga, as she is the Control Devil and a SatanicArchetype who uses her beautiful human appearance to pretend to be one. Especially, as she has defeated an Endbringer leading most of Earth-Bet to view her as humanity's beloved savior.
* DiesDifferentlyInAdaptation:
** [[spoiler:Makima appears to have killed [[WhyAmITicking Emma]] in chapter 2, to drink her blood and re-kick start her HealingFactor]], as opposed to canon, where she's killed by Scion during Gold Morning.
** Myyrdin dies in the Battle against Leviathan by the Endbringer's hands instead of the Battle against Echidna by the Eidolon clone's hands in canon.
** [[spoiler:Oni Lee]] dies in a car crash caused by an assassin, which is much quicker and more painless than being turned into Bonesaw's toys in canon.
* DirtyCoward: Makima describes Lung as this, stating that whenever adversity become too great, his will becomes broken along with his power, contemptously noting that he lacks a [[VillainRespect sliver of courage or a fraction of Denji's valor.]] This is soon proven after he tries to fight her and runs away when she proves too much for him.
* DidYouJustPunchOutCthulhu: [[spoiler:Makima actually manages to take Leviathan out of equation by blasting him into Mercury with no way to come back to Earth]].
* DissonantSerenity: Makima always appears calm and dignified with a serene smile, even when Leviathan is ripping her to pieces. Director Piggot finds this very disturbing even if she has a HealingFactor and FeelsNoPain.
* DoYouWantToCopulate: After Makima makes a wistful remark about how easily dogs form attachments, Bakuda suggestively makes a remark that if Makima’s looking for that, she can provide something. While we don’t get to hear exactly what she’s talking about, the fact that it’s accompanied by her [[ReadyForLovemaking unbuttoning her vest]] makes it pretty clear what she’s going for.
* TheDreaded: Makima is this to Brockton Bay's resident supervillains not long after arriving to Earth-Bet, being known as [[spoiler:"The Endslayer"]].
* DudeNotFunny: One commenter calls out another on PHO for making an "disarming" joke about Armsmaster, after he loses an arm to Leviathan.
* EarthShatteringKaboom: [[spoiler:Or rather Mercury-Shattering Kaboom is what happens when Makima launches Leviathan into it.]]
* EvenTheGirlsWantHer: Her superhuman beauty is commented on by Shadow Stalker, Tattletale, and various women in the PHO threads. [[AmbiguousSituation May also apply]] to Bakuda, since as detailed in AmbiguouslyGay, her baseline sexuality is currently unclear.
* EvilIsPetty: [[spoiler:Makima has Bakuda plant her Tinker bombs all around Brockton Bay and sets them off on live T.V. when Director Piggot was having an interview (killing a lot innocent civilians) all just to undermine the PRT even more just for speaking out against her.]]
* EvilRedhead: Makima, naturally.
* EvilTastesGood: Her previous contract with the Japanese Prime Minister in her home world made her innate blood-based [[HealingFactor regeneration]] obsolete, so it had been decades since she had last tasted blood. She had almost forgotten how delicious it was [[spoiler:until she drinks Emma's bloody remains]].
* EvilVersusEvil: While the Simurgh opposes Makima's plans to gain control and create a WorldOfSilence, it does this purely so that it continues to sow conflict and suffering among humanity and ensure it has access to fresh streams of information for the Entities.
* EvilerThanThou: Makima proves herself to be this to Lung in their "[[CurbStompBattle fight]]". She later makes him one of her thralls.
* ExactWords:
** When questioned by Dragon and Watchdog regarding whether she can Master others, Makima states that her powers only work on "lower lifeforms", leading them to assume she can only control animals, completely leaving out the fact that being the Control Devil her power applies to anything she considers "lower lifeforms", which includes humans.
** Makima tells Bakuda that "world peace" would be a consequence of her end goal, leaving out that she intends to take over Earth-Bet to create a WorldOfSilence.
* FaceOfAnAngelMindOfADemon: Makima is described one of the most beautiful characters in the story, yet has no qualms murdering, arranging assassinations, threatening teenagers and brainwashing people to serve her own ends. The fact that she's the Control Devil, a sociopathic, megalomaniacal and dangerous being, firmly cements her in this category.
* FailureHero: Many residents of Brockton Bay see their local Protectorate as this, especially when compared to Makima who turns things around for the better in a matter of days.
* FauxAffablyEvil:
** True to form, Makima puts on the image of a friendly, loving woman making the locals of Earth-Bet believe she's a superhero from another world that wants to help, rather than a literal Devil.
** Lung, of all people, tries this with Makima, acting grateful for being rescued by her from the PRT when in reality he's trying to gauge whether she's a potential minion or a foe to be eliminated. He soon discards the act after she insults him and tries to kill her.
* FeedItWithFire: As a being empowered by the fear of being controlled, Makima is in many ways the exact worst opponent for the Simurgh, seeing as how the Simurgh has basically become synonymous with people being controlled or puppeteered against their will and most of its plans involve controlling people and directing them, pretty much any action taken by the Simurgh only increases Makima's power.
* FeelsNoPain: Piggot speculates Makima has a pain blocking power since she doesn't react at all to her otherwise life-threatening injuries.
* FemmeFatale: Makima is both a very attractive woman and the stone-cold leader of the Public Safety Bureau. She certainly has no qualms about using her looks in order to get people to do what she wants, as Bakuda can attest to.
* ForTheEvulz: When Lung asks Makima why she's waterboarding him in a shallow puddle as he comes up for air, (he's assumes he either [[ButForMeItWasTuesday attacked her at some point before in the past]] or [[YouKilledMyFather killed someone she loved]]), her response? "I just enjoy killing the country mouse." and that she had never heard him before today and [[{{Sadist}} she found this to be good way to pass the time]].
* FromNobodyToNightmare: To Earth-Bet, Makima went from some woman that nobody has ever heard of to the most beloved hero of all time for defeating an Endbringer.
* FullFrontalAssault: Makima ends up doing this near the end of her fight with Leviathan, as a result of the massive amounts of ClothingDamage her outfit's taken earlier. It's caught on camera from Uber and Leet's drone, much to the appreciation of several men and [[EvenTheGirlsWantHer women]] on the PHO threads.
* GeniusBruiser:
** Makima is powerful enough that she can defeat most Parahumans without much difficulty, and is also a brilliant schemer who comes out of nearly every situation so far with the upper hand and enacts elaborate plots to achieve her goals.
** This also applies to Leviathan and the other Endbringers.
* GiantWallOfWateryDoom: Leviathan summoned more than one of these in its battle in Brockton Bay. Luckily, Makima was able to stop them.
* HalfTheManHeUsedToBe: [[spoiler:The ultimate fate of Myrddin]].
* HartmanHips: More than a few PHO commenters have said Makima has a nice backside.
* HealingFactor: Even without her contract, Makima's regeneration is still pretty strong but needs blood to kickstart it. [[spoiler:She latter creates new contracts through her employees.]]
* HeelFaceBrainwashing: Implied to have happened to many of the members of Azn Bad Boyz, as many of the early members of the new Bureau of Public Safety are noted to be ex-ABB, with many of them turning over a new leaf in a remarkably short span of time.
* HeelFaceTurn: Defied with Makima our VillainProtagonist has no intention of doing this, despite her villainy not working out for here last time.
* HeroesLoveDogs: Inverted. [[VillainProtagonist Makima's]] love for dogs is the same as it was back in ''Manga/ChainsawMan''. When she visits Rachel's dog shelter, in addition to trying to recruit her, she's also there to adopt a dog. Furthermore, she's shown to be exceedingly good with Bitch's dogs, with all three of them quickly coming to like her.
* HeroWithBadPublicity: The PRT and the Protectorate end up becoming this after Leviathan is defeated, as a result of retreating and abandoning Brockton Bay near the end. When combined with their previous issues such as only really patrolling rich neighborhoods and not really doing anything about the gangs, their reputation ends up falling drastically, with Piggot noting that the gangs have been using this to increase their control.
* HoistByHisOwnPetard: Piggot and the Brockton Bay PRT's habit of not really doing much about the gangs to keep things stable backfires horribly on them, as not only does it contribute to the above mentioned HeroWithBadPublicity issue, it gives a perfect opening for Makima to swoop in and resolve those issues, thus further boosting her PR while further cratering their own.
* HopeBringer: Director Armstrong sees Makima as this [[spoiler:after she takes out an Endbringer]]. A very big example of DramaticIrony, considering how in her home series, Makima's very much the HopeCrusher.
* HopeIsScary: As much as Skitter wants to believe Makima's claim that she can beat Leviathan and save the day, she's afraid to do so after being let down so many times in her life.
* HopelessBossFight: Despite Rachel's aggressive demeanor against Makima, the young villainess is fully aware she stands no chance against her in a real one-on-one fight.
* HorrifyingTheHorror:
** Leviathan uses the full extent of his power and demonstrates more strategic thinking when attacking Brockton Bay to get at Makima, even ignoring the Protectorate to do so. A few heroes observe that the [[EldritchAbomination Endbringer]] wouldn't do this unless he viewed Makima as that much of a threat.
** Lung, [[RapeIsASpecialKindOfEvil a rapist who runs a prostitution ring]] [[PaedoHunt that preys on underage girls]] and a cape with the power to take on the entire Protectorate by himself, is [[VillainsWantMercy reduced to begging for his life]] after he finds out the hard way how hopelessly outmatched he is against Makima.
* HumanoidAbomination: Makima and the Simurgh are both this as a Devil and Endbringer respectively.
* HurlItIntoTheSun: A variant, as while she doesn't throw him into the Sun, Makima's amped-up blasts are able to shoot Leviathan out of Earth's orbit, ultimately leaving him stranded on Mercury.
* IAmNotLeftHanded: Leviathan stops holding back during its fight in Brockton Bay.
* IgnoredEpiphany: PlayedForLaughs. Makima ''still'' wants to get rid of bad movies to create her perfect world, despite it being one of the reasons Denji chose to stop her.
* InspirationalInsult: Inverted, Makima deliberately aggravates Alexandria to make her leave Brockton Bay, so that she will get all the credit for defeating Leviathan, instead of having it be attributed or sharing it with the Triumvirate.
* InternalReveal: Skitter and Shadow Stalker discover each other's secret identities.
* IsThisAJoke: Director Tagg asks Dragon this after she confirms that Leviathan is currently [[spoiler:stranded on the remains of planet Mercury because of Makima]].
* KickTheDog:
** Makima kills the last PRT guard of the convey, after promising to spare his life.
** Makima has [[PsychoForHire Bakuda]] plant her [[HavingABlast Tinker bombs]] all around Brockton Bay and sets them off on live T.V. when Director Piggot was having an interview (killing god knows how many) [[EvilIsPetty all just to undermine the PRT even more after speaking out against her]].
* TheKilljoy: Director Tagg is certainly this to his colleagues. [[spoiler:Not even the news of Leviathan's defeat can put a smile on his face]].
* LackOfEmpathy: Lung displays no pity to the PRT agents [[spoiler:that were brutally killed by Makima.]]
* LadyInAPowerSuit: Makima becomes the head of the new Bureau of Public Safety and wears an appropriate suit, showing off her status. More than a few people remark she wears it very well.
* LongGame: The Simurgh is playing this involving Makima in her plans.
* LudicrousGibs: [[spoiler:This is Emma Barnes's fate at Makima's hands]].
* MadnessMantra: Tattletale's power keeps telling her to trust Makima.
* {{Manipulative B|astard}}itch: Makima true to form here. From making the masses dance her tune as their savior to Alice [[spoiler:a.k.a Bakuda, her girlfriend.]]
* MookHorrorShow: Makima does this to the PRT officers transporting Lung, Bakuda, and Canary.
-->''Lung eyed the bodies and limbs that littered the floor as blood pooled with the rain. Their owners were killed in a variety of ways. [[OffWithHisHead Some were missing heads]], and [[AnArmAndALeg some had no legs]]. [[HalfTheManHeUsedToBe Some were cut in half from head to groin, while others were cut from the waist]]. A couple was [[NotEnoughToBury just a puddle of blood]], as if a hammer had mashed them to the ground, leaving behind nothing but their bloodied clothing. [[LackOfEmpathy Lung showed nothing, not even a hint of fear or disgust]]. In contrast, [[StressVomit Canary turned green and rushed to the side to empty whatever remained in her stomach]].''
* NamedByAdaptation:
** Bakuda is given the first name Alice in this story.
** Oni Lee's real name here is Takemura.
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: As detailed under HoistByHisOwnPetard, Piggot's policy of pretty much leaving the citizens of the Docks and the more run down areas of the Bay to their fate to placate the gangs ends up basically giftwrapping Makima a large and enthusiastic powerbase after [[spoiler:Leviathan's defeat]]. Furthermore, it gives Makima a perfect opportunity to further cement her reputation as their savior, while painting the PRT and Protectorate as incompetent and apathetic to the needs of the people.
* NoSympathy: When Canary wakes up in a PRT van, she remembers she's going to the Birdcage, a life sentence, and breaks down into tears. Her only company is Lung and Bakuda who display no compassion towards her, with later first telling her to stop crying before changing her mind and telling to ''keep crying'' to collect her tears to make a new kind of bomb.
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: Several of the Protectorate heroes note that Leviathan is acting very differently than usual, as instead of sandbagging like the Endbringers typically do, he completely pulls out all the stops and flat out ignores many attacks that usually at least slow him down, and ignores many of the other capes to focus on Makima. This makes Alexandria very suspicious of the EvilRedhead.
* OhCrap: Rachel has this reaction when Makima reveals she knows the SecretIdentity of all her teammates, where they live and who their loved ones are.
* OlderThanTheyLook: Tattletale's power tells her Makima is 23-years-old, but she's ''much'' older than that [[TimeAbyss (as old as humanity itself)]].
* OutsideContextProblem: Makima is this to the world of Earth-Bet, as a supernatural being with powers and abilities completely disconnected from those stemming from the Entities' Shards. As further evidence of her outside-context status, she's shown to [[GoMadFromTheRevelation have a severely deleterious effect on Thinkers who try to analyze her]], with Tattletale experiencing splitting headaches when she tries, and several other Thinkers tasked with analyzing her experiencing brain hemorrhaging. In the case of the Simurgh, while Makima's not an outright blind spot like Scion, it's shown that she's something of a blur in the timeline, that while capable of being seen, cannot actually be understood by the HumanoidAbomination.
* PayEvilUntoEvil:
** Makima killing [[TheBully Emma]] to kick start her HealingFactor can be seen as this.
** When Makima is delivering a CurbStompBattle to Lung before that, the villain asks if she's out for {{Revenge}} against him only for the Control Devil to inform him she's never even ''heard'' of Lung until not long ago.
** InUniverse, [[spoiler:after Leviathan's defeat at Makima's hands]], when a couple of PHO commenters are somewhat disapproving of Makima [[spoiler:tearing Lung in half in the midst of fighting Leviathan]], several others dismiss their concerns by stating that Lung ran a [[SexSlave forced prostitution ring]] and as such, deserves NoSympathy, with some even hoping she killed him.
* PoliteVillainsRudeHeroes: When they meet, Makima the VillainProtagonist is soft-spoken, eerily detached and always serene, never raising her voice. Alexandria the HeroAntagonist is abrasive, confrontational and aggressive towards the Control Devil.
* PragmaticPansexuality: Makima seems to be pulling this on Alice [[spoiler:a.k.a Bakuda]].
* ProperlyParanoid: Tagg believes that Makima could be secretly a {{Supervillain}} and (correctly) deduces she has some kind of MindControl power. Most of his colleagues think he's ImproperlyParanoid but he's actually closer to realizing Makima's true nature than anyone else. [[spoiler:He's also first to figure out that Makima has mastered the ABB to attack the PRT in order to get rid of the competition.]]
* PsychicNosebleed: When Tattletale tries to use her power on Makima, it eventually goes MadnessMantra mode, repeatedly telling her to trust Makima, giving her this until she turns it off. Many other Thinkers have suffered this, too.
* ReformedCriminal: A few former low-ranking ABB members presented themselves as this when they joined Makima's group.
* RunningBothSides: [[spoiler:Makima leads the Public Safety Bureau (publicly) and the ABB (in secret) now that she has many its memebers, including all three Parahumans, Mastered.]]
* ScrewTheRulesIHaveConnections: When Rachel brings up the "Unwritten Rules" and that she'll be punished for revealing the identities of the Undersiders, Makima retorts that she ''could'' get away with it for being the Endslayer and the Undersiders in question are wanted criminals.
* SlaveToPR: After the battle with Leviathan and Makima recreating the Bureau of Public Safety and doing much to help get Brockton Bay back on its feet, the PRT become much more aggressive in patrolling the Docks and the more rundown areas of the Bay in the hopes of turning the tide of public sentiment back in their favor. Unfortunately for them, many people can recognize it for what it is, with many noting it's too little, too late.
* SomethingOnlyTheyWouldSay: Skitter figures out Shadow Stalker is her bully, Sophia Hess when she refers to the civilians as "prey". Sophia has an OhCrap reaction when she realizes Skitter is Taylor Hebert.
* SparedByAdaptation: Chubster survives the Battle against Leviathan.
* StatusQuoIsGod: Director Piggot is a firm believer of maintaining this. Everyone else not so much due to living in a CrapsackWorld.
* StealthyColossus: Leviathan is able to get the jump on Makima, despite his massive size.
* StressVomit:
** Makima almost does this on her arrival to Earth-Bet but manages to keep it down.
** Played straight with Canary, who pukes her guts out when she sees the gory aftermath of Makima's MookHorrorShow.
** Lung does this at one point when Makima waterboards him in a shallow puddle.
* StunnedSilence: The Directors of the PRT have this reaction after they first hear that [[spoiler:Makima has defeated Leviathan permanently by blasting him into Mercury]].
* StupidSexyFlanders: More than a few characters comment on how beautiful Makima is including the heterosexual [[DarkActionGirl Shadow Stalker]], the UsefulNotes/{{Asexual}} Tattletale and even the StraightGay Legend.
* SuicideMission: The Simurgh is confirmed to have [[spoiler:intentionally sent Leviathan to his doom against Makima]] in order to weaken her by counteracting her boost in power from fear through the adulation and praise she receives as the one who [[spoiler:defeated an Endbringer]].
* SuperSpeed: Makima can easily run at mach speeds, earning her a high Mover rating.
* TakeOverTheWorld: Makima plans to take over Earth-Bet.
* TookALevelInBadass: Makima notes that her power has increased exponentially after arriving on Earth Bet, as a result of the fear of control being far greater on Earth Bet because of the Simurgh.
* TrappedInAnotherWorld: Makima did not end up on Earth-Bet by choice. However, she doesn't seem to be in a hurry to get back to her home world anytime soon.
* TraumaticSuperpowerAwakening: When Makima delivers a CurbStompBattle to Lung and is about to kill him, [[spoiler:Lung experiences a second Trigger Event]]. This was AllAccordingToPlan for the Control Devil and wants to create her own personal army of Parahumans via this.
* UncannyValley: Several people on Earth Bet have this reaction to Makima. Notably, Alexandria describes her as lacking the sorts of micro-expressions and subtle facial tells that regular people have, describing her changes in expression as being akin to different frames in a film.
* UndignifiedDeath: At Makima's mercy Lung believes he's going to die powerless, [[DyingAlone alone]], completely naked, drowning in a puddle of his own StressVomit at the hands of a woman because [[ItAmusedMe she felt like it]] and never heard of him, believing he wasted his life. Not a dignified end for the Dragon of Kyushu. [[spoiler:Then, he gets a second trigger and Makima decides to spare his life to make use of him.]]
* UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom: Thanks to the Simurgh's machinations massively increasing the fear of control, Makima's power has increased exponentially, to the point that she's capable of holding her own against Leviathan, [[spoiler:and defeating him]].
* VillainHasAPoint: As ruthless and manipulative as Makima is, many of the points she raises are correct. As she states in her conversation with Rachel, the overall culture of heroes and villains on Earth-Bet is utterly dysfunctional and dehumanizing towards people. In particular, she rightly points out just how badly this has screwed over Rachel, pointing out that had she killed her stepmother with her own hands, she wouldn't have been charged with a crime, but because she used a parahuman power to commit the same act, she's hunted down and persecuted for it.
* VillainProtagonist: Makima is the main character of the story, and while she does do a lot of good things that help a lot of people, it's made pretty clear she's not doing this out of any sort of actual benevolence and has no intention of pulling a HeelFaceTurn after her defeat in her home world.
* VillainRespect: [[spoiler:Makima is quietly impressed that Tagg not only figured out that she was responsible for the ABB attacks but is willing to risk his own life in his attempt to expose her.]]
* VillainWithGoodPublicity: Makima becomes this after [[spoiler:defeating Leviathan by sending him to Mercury]], quickly becoming the most beloved hero in the world as a result, and receiving enormous donations of money and support from all across the world, with Rachel noting that posters of her placed across pretty much every building in Brockton Bay. This backfires on Makima, as the resulting love and adoration severely weaken her, [[spoiler:to the point where she doubts she can defeat another Endbringer]].
* VillainousRescue: Makima does this to the Wards and the Undersiders protecting the shelters by sending Leviathan flying. To them, she pulled a BigDamnHeroes as she took out the Endbringer.
* VillainsWantMercy: Lung (to his personal shame) at one point starts begging for Makima to not kill him while she's waterboarding him.
* WhatTheHellHero:
** Director Renick and Armstrong call out Director Tagg and Piggot for wanting to release Makima's PRT threat ratings, including being a [[PeoplePuppets Master]], despite having no concrete proof she can MindControl people. Armstrong goes on further saying they need Makima on their side to help rebuild their tarnished reputation, rather than turn her against them.
** More than a few people, especially the locals of Brockton Bay, call out the heroes that [[ScrewThisImOuttaHere gave up the fight against Leviathan]] and essentially left them to die. They end up believing Makima is the only true hero out there and throw their lot in with her.
* WorldOfSilence: What happens in the BadFuture witnessed by the Simurgh, where conflict and suffering have been eliminated, but so have all traces of individuality and personality among humanity, with the humans of this new world being described as "biological machines", moving in orderly lines and patterns without a hint of deviation, akin to ants.
* [[WorldsStrongestMan World's Strongest Woman]]: Makima is regarded as this [[spoiler:after defeating Leviathan]]. It's noted that the only ones on Earth-Bet that have a chance of beating her in a fair fight are [[AllYourPowersCombined Eidolon]], [[PhysicalGod Scion]], and the [[spoiler:remaining]] [[{{Kaiju}} Endbringers]]. Taylor notes she's strong enough to join the Triumvirate if she wanted to.
* WouldHurtAChild: Makima kills [[spoiler:Emma]], who's a teenager, in order to drink her blood to kick-start her [[HealingFactor regeneration]] after having been maimed by Leviathan.
