3He won the Hugo and Nebula awards for his novel Literature/TheMartianChild, which is a fictionalized account of his raising a neurodivergent son as a single gay father, and was adapted into a 2007 movie starring Creator/JohnCusack.

5In scifi fandom circles, he is somewhat infamous for his long-unfinished novel series Literature/TheWarAgainstTheChtorr, which depicts Earth being overwhelmed by an aggressive alien ecosystem.
