Barbarella is a French comic book character created by Jean-Claude Forest for the French V Magazine. In 1964, her strips were collected in a single book, Barbarella, touted as France's first "adult" comic book. This book ended up inspiring the cult-classic 1968 film with Creator/JaneFonda.

Some years later, Forest produced three more albums, The Wrath of the Minute-Eaters, The False Moon, and The Storm Mirror. Another strip was produced for the ComicBook/SomedayFunnies anthology, which languished in DevelopmentHell until the New Tens.

In 2017, Creator/DynamiteComics acquired the rights to produce a new ongoing series.

!!This series contains examples of:

* AuthorAvatar: L'artiste (later called Browningwell) is a blatant stand-in for Jean-Claude Forest.
* CitadelCity: Sogo is surrounded by an impassable labyrinth.
* DepravedBisexual: the queen of Sogo.
* DoggedNiceGuy: Bille to Barbarella.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: Narval is indignant when Bille actually uses the displacer gun on a guard; he himself only used it as a deterrent
* GirlOfTheWeek: Given that she's in a FreeLoveFuture, the titular heroine hooks up with a handsome guy or beautiful woman in every adventure, and is often seen making eyes at her next conquest by the end of it.
* PlanetaryRelocation: Barb once hitches a ride aboard a freighter that's delivering custom-made planets to a new star system.
* RedIsHeroic: Barbarella wears a red suit.
* Robosexual:
** Barbarella believes that robots can be just as good, if not better, lovers compared to humans. She has sex with one robot called Diktor in the Sogo chapters. There's another chapter where she drives a Fembot to orgasm just by fiddling with her insides.
** There's a single-panel gag about Barbarella's current lover — a robot guy — thinking his movements are "a bit mechanical". Might be better in the original French.
* Sexbot: Diktor might qualify, as he is a robot, and is capable of sex. Also, in "The Wrath of the Minute-Eater", the android prostitute who befriends Barbarella and whose capacity for orgasm Barbarella restores.
* WellIntentionedExtremist: Narval in The Wrath of the Minute-Eater. He manipulates Barbarella, takes over her crew and conquers a primitive mineral-rich planet so that his race may leave their backward aquatic planet and be able to breathe air.
* YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness: Narval's people knew he'd do anything to allow them to leave their planet, so they planned all along to hand him over to justice to pay for his crimes. Nice of them, right ?

* BarbieDollAnatomy: The planet of Parosia has absolutely banned sex, to the point that they have developed the means to surgically remove genitalia, which is forcibly employed upon all Parosians and anyone unlucky enough to get caught in Parosian airspace. In the first issue of the series, Barbarella is subjected to this treatment.
* ChristmasTown: The planet Christmas was settled as a yule-themed family-friendly resort, ruled by the benevolent Niklaus von Klaus. Unfortunately, it was founded in a lawless area of space, and thus its visitors consist mainly of criminals who come to the planet to conduct business. Klaus decided to roll with it, letting the criminals conduct business in his village, but subject to extremely strict rules against violence.
* ChurchMilitant: The Parosian church and military are very tightly intertwined, with the Parosian military being used to spread the word of the Seven throughout the galaxy.
* LowCultureHighTech: Parosia has access to all kinds of advanced technology, but years of war has destroyed the planet's economy so badly that the average Parosian lives a borderline-medieval existence.
* YouNeedToGetLaid: In the first issue, Barbarella is locked up in a women's prison, and among her cellmates is a HolierThanThou nervous wreck named Rho who compulsively prays and sings hymns for her own salvation. After she threatens to rat out one of the other inmates for sneaking in an erotic novel, one of her cellmates pulls her into bed in the hopes that she'll mellow out.
