''Barbarella'' is a French comic book character created by Jean-Claude Forest for the French ''V Magazine''. In 1964, her strips were collected in a single book, ''Barbarella'', touted as France's first "adult" comic book. This book ended up inspiring the [[Film/{{Barbarella}} cult-classic 1968 film]] with Creator/JaneFonda.

Some years later, Forest produced three more albums, ''The Wrath of the Minute-Eaters'', ''The False Moon'', and ''The Storm Mirror''. Another strip was produced for the ''ComicBook/SomedayFunnies'' anthology, which languished in DevelopmentHell until the New Tens.

In 2017, Creator/{{Dynamite}} acquired the rights to produce a new ongoing series.

* BarbieDollAnatomy: The planet of Parosia has absolutely banned sex, to the point that they have developed the means to surgically remove genitalia, which is forcibly employed upon all Parosians and anyone unlucky enough to get caught in Parosian airspace. In the first issue of the series, Barbarella is subjected to this treatment.
* BiTheWay: In the first issue, Barbarella makes out with Jury, one of her fellow prisoners.
* ChurchMilitant: The Parosian church and military are very tightly intertwined, with the Parosian military being used to spread the word of the Seven throughout the galaxy.
* YouNeedToGetLaid: In the first issue, Barbarella is locked up in a women's prison, and among her cellmates is a HolierThanThou nervous wreck named Rho who compulsively prays and sings hymns for her own salvation. After she threatens to rat out one of the other inmates for sneaking in an erotic novel, one of her cellmates pulls her into bed in the hopes that she'll mellow out.
