[[caption-width-right:295:"My name is Artix von Krieger and I am a Paladin who has dedicated his entire life to battling the undead."]]

A paladin with an uncontrollable compulsion to slay the undead. Prone to making [[{{Pun}} groan-worthy puns]]. He is involved in several storylines in the game, but his most prominent one is in the "Darkness Orb" Saga where he and the Hero infiltrate the Necropolis and fight Noxus. He is also a key ally in the fight against Caitiff in Book 3.
----
* AndNowForSomeoneCompletelyDifferent: You can temporarily play as Artix in several quests: in "The Green Mist" where the temporary Kid Artix armor is equipped in a {{Flashback}} quest, in the "Bachelor Party" quest as 'Defensive Artix', and in "One Pala-day At a Time" as regular Artix in a SliceOfLife quest.
* ArcHero: Of the Darkness Orb saga which delves into his past and his fight against the Necropolis.
* AxCrazy: Overlaps with ChronicHeroSyndrome, but he has an unhealthy obsession with slaying the undead
* AuthorAvatar: Of creator and founder of Creator/ArtixEntertainment, Adam Bohn.
* BadassAdorable: In his childhood, he is [[NiceGuy all nice]] and sometimes even cutely [[ThePratfall falls while attacking]], but he'll fearlessly fight wild monsters and zombies with a simple hatchet.
* BadassCape: Artix wears a long, [[RedIsHeroic red]] cape.
* BattleCry: "Battle on!"
* BigGood: He qualifies as this alongside Warlic, Lady Celestia, and King Alteon, being the IdealHero he is. He has dedicated his life to that of light and purity, being of IncorruptiblePurePureness. He's also one of the most active heroes alongside the player character, appearing in more quest chains than any other NPC. Not to mention he is a pivotal character in every one of the games by Creator/ArtixEntertainment.
* BizarreTasteInFood: Has a particular fondness for wasabi, and puts it on everything.
* BladeSpam: Two of his skills, Combo (Ultimate Light Combo Attack!) and Slash (Undead Slayer Slash!), are multi-hit attacks that do [[LightEmUp Light-elemental damage]] in four slashes.
** Before his update, he had one skill called Holy Strike, in which he made a four-hit Light attack on one enemy target. And before that, he could randomly do that whenever the player used the 'Attack!' command.
* BrainWashedAndCrazy: He gets mind controlled by Drakonnan during the Fire War, and serves as the general of one of the waves.
* BrutishCharacterBrutishWeapon: As a testament to Artix's strength, in Book 3 he replaces the sword he was using with a big golden battle axe, specifically the [[LegendaryWeapon Blinding Light of Destiny]].
* CombatMedic: As a guest (after a much-needed update), Artix can heal the player's character with his skill, Restore, at the cost of 30 MP.
* ChronicHeroSyndrome: His heroic impulses are so strong, that he cannot even momentarily resist the urge to vanquish evil on sight, even when at risk of blowing his cover during infiltration.
* CrutchCharacter: The original crutch character before Tomix and Aegis showed up. Artix was far stronger than any other Party Member at the time, ''especially'' after his upgrade during the Darkness Orb Saga.
* CurtainsMatchTheWindow: Artix has brown hair and equally brown eyes.
* DeclarationOfProtection: To Vayle, during his childhood... At least, until she got home to her brother.
-->'''Artix:''' I will get you back to your brother as soon as I can! I think I see a tunnel over there.
-->'''Artix:''' There is no need to be scared. Follow me, I will protect you!
* {{Determinator}}: He'll never give up. Ever. Especially in regards to slaying the undead.
* DoomedHometown: The village where he (and Vayle) lived was wiped out by the [[FogOfDoom Green]] [[MysteriousMist Mist]], which turned everyone but Artix and Vayle into zombies. It was set on fire and [[WatchingTroyBurn Artix saw it burn]].
* FightingYourFriend: In the Fire War, Artix becomes BrainwashedAndCrazy by Drakonnan and serves as a general in his army. Though the Hero doesn’t know it’s Artix until after defeating him, by which point Artix comes back to his senses.
* FinishingMove:
** As a guest, his skill, Ultimate Light Combo Attack! (Combo) serves as a LimitBreak of sorts, given it's normally not available from the start of a battle (unlike his other multi-hit attack, Slash/Undead Slayer Slash.) It's a [[LightEmUp Light attack]] that damages the enemy with four critical hits.
** [[CoupDeGraceCutscene Storywise]], however, he can summon a spear made of pure white light with draconic features as seen in ''Artix Vs. The Undead'', which he uses to finish off Edgar, destroy its Spiritcrystal and unveil the Necromantress.
* ForgottenFirstMeeting: Artix doesn't know at first that he already knows the Necromantress, but he does.
* ForgottenFriendNewFoe: Downplayed. Though he and Vayle met many years ago, they weren't exactly friends--just a boy and a girl who met on a fateful day of their lives, when [[StartingANewLife each took a different path]]. [[RedStringOfFate Destiny]] had it they'd clash again as enemies later down the road.
* FourthWallObserver: One of the more fourth wall aware characters in the game.
* HerdHittingAttack: His skill, Light of Justice! (Light), attacks all foes.
* HiddenBadass: Before his much needed upgrade, he was only a level 3. But a message always accompanied recruiting him, saying he could take on enemies that were hundred level higher than him. He would remain the strongest guest until Tomix showed up.
* HeWhoFightsMonsters: Surprisingly averted. Despite dedicating his life to eradicating the undead, he remains a jolly IdealHero who is pure of heart. Though he has shown shades of being AxCrazy and being guily of VanHelsingHateCrimes
* HolyBurnsEvil: In the ''Artix Vs. Undead'' that promoted the game, when Edgar grabs him, Artix uses his paladin powers to burn Edgar's arms off and release himself.
* HolyHandGrenade: In two of his skills, Light and Blind, he uses spells of only [[LightEmUp light]] to damage his enemies.
* HunterOfMonsters: Artix fights the forces of darkness most fiercely, and has dedicated his entire life to battling TheUndead. His motivation for doing so is pretty varied: first and foremost, most of them are tortured souls who CannotSelfTerminate and he was to put them all out of their misery by freeing them; they're used by Necromancer mainly to hurt other people, so he wants to protect the innocent; the Paladin Order's servitude to "the light" puts them at odds with the commonly Darkness-aligned undead; [[ItsPersonal it's a bit personal]] since he lost his village to an [[FogOfDoom Undeath-inducing]] [[MysteriousMist mi]][[OminousFog st]]; and finally, pleasure since he's either a BloodKnight, GoodFeelsGood, or both, because he ''really'' enjoys exorcising the Undead.
* IdealHero: He usually comes across as this, but it's downplayed. [[HonorBeforeReason He fights with honor]], [[NiceGuy his goodness is genuine]], he looks out for the innocent, [[TheFettered stands up for what's morally correct]], and serves as a role model for other heroes in many ways. He is, however, not without flaws: for instance he has an [[AxCrazy unhealthy obsession for exorcising the undead]] [[VanHelsingHateCrimes even when they are benign]].
* InHarmsWay: Artix practically ''lives'' for fighting and battling the [[TheUndead Undead]]. He seemingly loves slaying them, to the point where it's almost an addiction and he can't restrain himself.
* IncorruptiblePurePureness: As a child, the Darkness Primal Orb whispered in his mind, tempting him with great power if he gave himself to the darkness... but he didn't. In fact, that was the very moment he decided to turn his back on the darkness forever and become a power of good. Vayle, [[StartOfDarkness on the other hand...]]
* {{Keet}}: Easily excitable and cheerful even in the darkest of moments.
* KryptoniteFactor: The colour pink, as revealed in the quest ''Pinkonreach''. It temporarily blinds him if there's too much of it.
-->'''Artix:''' N-no... too m-much... PINK! MY EYESS!!!!1 AAHH!
-->'''Artix:''' I AM BLIND!! I CANNOT SEE!!! WHAT EVIL IS THIS?!
* LeeroyJenkins: He tends to jump at the chance to exorcize any undead.
* LightEmUp: All of Artix's attacks do Light-elemental damage.
* LightIsGood: He is one of the purest heroes in the series, and all of his attacks center around Light.
* LighterAndSofter: Even in the darkest times, Artix's goofy cheeriness never fails to lift the mood.
* LoyalAnimalCompanion: Daimyo the undead slaying pomeranian, based on Artix's real life dog who passed away in 2017.
* MagicKnight: A [[ThePaladin paladin]], with [[CombatMedic healing/defensive powers]], and capable of [[LightEmUp Light-elemental]] [[HolyHandGrenade attacks]].
* MeaningfulName: Krieger means "warrior" in German.
* MentorArchetype: In Book 3 he has taken up training new Paladin recruits.
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: His eagerness to vanquish the undead has landed the Hero in hot water a few times.
** In the Gatekeeper quest, the Hero had already come up with an elaborate plan to get past the guards which was close to succeeding. However Artix cannot restrain himself from attacking and they end up fighting anyway.
** In Frostval 2007, he shows up slays the spirits of Frostval when they were just about to help Xan have a HeelFaceTurn. This leaves the Hero on his/her own to stop Xan and save the world.
** In Frostval 2014, the ''VideoGame/AdventureQuestWorlds'' Artix uses a Time Travel Fairy's wand to merge all the timelines, so all the heroes could be together for Frostval. However this causes all the heroes to merge with different versions of themselves (resulting in some bizarre appearances), bringing Celestia back from the dead, pulling many characters from other ''Creator/ArtixEntertainment'' games into ''VideoGame/DragonFable'', as well as the different versions of Akriloth merging into the most powerful version yet.
* NoodleIncident: What happened to the Blinding Light of Destiny has never been fully explained. Artix only says ItsALongStory that ended in a battle against a Master Necromancer, who summoned a creature from the Plane of Eternal Darkness. Artix couldn't slay it and so had to seal it in his battleaxe--creating the Shadowreaper of Doom in the process.
* OneManArmy: Artix can vanquish entire armadas of undead with ease. During the assault on the Necropolis, it's revealed the heroes of Falconreach took out 5 million undead together, while Artix took out the ''other 5 million all by himself''.
* OutOfFocus: He vanishes for quite a while from the end of Book 2 to late Book 3. He finally gets in contact with the Hero at the Swordhaven Tournament before appearing in person for the "Growing Shadows" Saga.
* ThePaladin: Played with. Artix is literally referred to as a Paladin, being a MagicKnight and an [[IncorruptiblePurePureness incorruptible]] force for good. Although his status as a ChurchMilitant is depicted in ''VideoGame/AdventureQuest'', in ''[=DragonFable=]'' Artix has shades of a WarriorMonk as seen by his belief in "the light." His personality however is quite atypical of Paladins, being a BloodKnight who relishes battle and slaying of evil.
* ParentalAbandonment: Artix lost both parents to the [[FogOfDoom Green]] [[MysteriousMist Mist]] when he was twelve-or-so years old.
* ParentalSubstitute: Lady Celestia, who nursed him back to health and began training him to battle the forces of evil, took care of him after his village was burned. He had enough tea to last him a lifetime, though.
* PungeonMaster: Likes making {{pun}}s, much to the derision of his fellow allies... and TheUndead.
** When encountered in the Cemetery, he has list of things he can't say fron of the undead: they're puns.
* QuestGiver: For the "Darkness Orb" quest chain, and a few Amityvale quests.
* ReactionShot: In ''Moonridge: Saved!'', along with Lady Vayle. "Could this be the same Vayle [[ForgottenFirstMeeting I met when I was a little boy?]]"
* SeriesMascot: Alongside Twilly and Robina the Hood, he is the most frequently used in promotions for the game, not to mention the game's company is named after him.
* SpeakInUnison: With the Hero, in a lengthy sequence in the ''Moonridge: Saved!'' quest.
* SpeaksFluentAnimal: Artix understands the barks that Daimyo gives.
* StagParty: As Rolith's best man, Artix organizes a bachelor par-tay--a wrestling championship against [[TheUndead undead]]!
* StartingANewLife: As a child, his hometown was wiped out by the Green Mist and lost everything, only to be found by Celestia. A few years later, he joined the Paladin order as a paladin-in-training. In his own words:
-->'''Artix:''' I put all thoughts of the village behind and looked forward to my new life.
* TookALevelInBadass:
** Artix has always been a badass, but his guest (for a long time) was non-scaled at level 3 and had just ''one'' skill (Holy Strike). After a much needed update, he is now level-scaled and has five new skills--[[FinishingMove Ultimate]] [[LightEmUp Light]] [[LimitBreak Combo]] [[CallingYourAttacks Attack!]], [[HealingHands Restoring Light]], [[BladeSpam Undead Slayer Slash]][[note]]which lowers enemy Light resistance[[/note]], [[HolyHandGrenade Blinding Light]] and [[HerdHittingAttack Light of JUSTICE!]]--making him once again one of the stronger guests.
** In Book 3, he reacquires his Blinding Light of Destiny, becoming yet even more powerful. While he does have fewer skills, the ones he now has are devastatingly powerful. His default attack does 200% damage (215% damage against Undead), his [[FinishingMove Purify]] which is an upgraded version of his old "Ultimate Light Combo Attack!" which does 5 hits of 100% damage each (for total 500% damage), and [[HealingHands Restoring Light]] which full heals Artix.
* TrademarkFavouriteFood: Holy Wasabi.
** As seen in ''Too Many Cooks'', Artix carries it around with him, and puts it on everything.
** In ''The Funeral'', he leaves some Holy Wasabi on Warlic's memorial statue.
** In ''Critical Failure!'', he slipped some Holy Wasabi in the Hero's backpack, thinking s/he "might find it useful."
* TwentyFourHourArmor: He wears it in bed, he wears it in the shower, he wears it in battle, he wears it all day and night!
* VanHelsingHateCrimes: Artix slays the undead on sight, without a second of consideration for the consequences and if they really are a threat. While it's true most undead are souls of the deceased forced to serve the evil necromancer controlling them, some of them aren't doing any harm and prefer their undead state. This even includes benevolent spirits trying to help the heroes.
** In Frostval 2007, the Hero meets the [[YetAnotherChristmasCarol Ghosts of Frostval Past, Present, and Future]] and explain they will be capable of giving Xanta Claus a HeelFaceTurn and stop him from destroying the world. However Artix shows up [[TheCameo out of the blue]] and destroys all three spirits. When the Hero is recovering from shock, Artix misinterprets this for gratitude and reassures the Hero that the ghosts would no longer haunt the town.
** The Hero comes across a troop of friendly Necromancers who use the undead to perform music as entertainment for guests. The Hero watches the happy scene and makes a mental note to ensure Artix doesn't find this place.
** In ''VideoGame/AdventureQuest'', this is taken to its logical conclusion: that he [[HeWhoFightsMonsters can become]] a KnightTemplar / WellIntentionedExtremist. Considering not all undead are bound to necromancers[[note]]Some have nice peaceful lives trying not to bother anyone and don't like the idea of being exorcised[[/note]], he may commit VanHelsingHateCrimes, and when he decides to wage a war against all necromancers, his [[{{Determinator}} single-mindedness]] won't allow him to listen to neutral necromancers nor stop the conflict, which ended up bringing about the disruption of Lore's [[LeyLine ley lines]] and the Paladin Order's ex-communication from "the church" by the Lady of Light herself.
* WatchingTroyBurn: During his childhood he witnessed as his home village was invaded by the green mist and his people and family were turned into zombies.
* WouldntHitAGirl: In Hero's Heart Day 2013 quest, ''Bachelor Party'', the player [[AndNowForSomeoneCompletelyDifferent plays as him]] in the Defensive Artix armor, he prefers HonorBeforeReason and gets his ass kicked by Alina's bridesmaids because he won't attack them at all.
** In battle, when the player clicks the Attack! command, he will say "Nope!" and do nothing for the rest of the turn. His two other skills are similarly useless: Explain, in which he raises his hand and shouts "Please let me explain!" and has no effect, and Holy Strike, in which the foam hammer glows, but before completing the attack, he says "Ya know what....nope. Can't do it." and doesn't attack.
* YouCantGoHomeAgain: The night of the [[FogOfDoom Green]] [[MysteriousMist Mist]] Artix "lost everything and everyone that [he] ever knew" and had [[StartingANewLife to start a new life]].

In her own words: "Robina the Hood at your service. Steal from the rich, give to the.... cute little cuddly wuddly forest creatures!" [[JustifiedTrope Well, that explains how]] [[MoneySpider those monsters got all that gold]].
----
* AFriendInNeed: She is one of the people the Hero enlists during the fight against Caitiff.
* BadassNormal: Robina has no special powers, simply a lot of skill with using the bow.
* BoyishShortHair: Cut her hair short to [[spoiler: Disguise herself as Cinquefoil and infiltrate the Rose,]] as a result, when she later has to [[spoiler: take over as Queen following Alteon's injury, she wears a wig kept on by her crown to make her hair seem longer]].
* CaptainErsatz: Literally a female Myth/RobinHood.
* ImprobableAimingSkills: Has marksman accuracy that rivals that of Zhoom.
* InnocentBlueEyes: Has these and is one of the most idealistic heroes in the game.
* KickingAssInAllHerFinery: During the Gala in Book 3, she helps the Hero protect King Alteon while escaping from the castle.
* KingIncognito: She is really [[spoiler: one of the daughters of King Alteon, Princess Victoria]]. She keeps her entire Robina Hood identity and activities secret from him because she knows he would disapprove of what she is doing. [[spoiler: However, in "Victoria's Secret", her identity is finally exposed to her royal family and her father after some deliberation accepts Victoria's double life as she is (according to the Hero and herself) helping Lore by doing what she does]].
** In Book 3, after the rise of the Rose it is implied that she has [[spoiler: gone into hiding and is masquerading as a young man named Cinquefoil. Though there has been no confirmation yet, the fact that Cinquefoil has red hair and blue eyes like Robina, stands in the exact same spot that Robina did in previous books and was seen helping to defend Falconreach with bow and arrows during the latest Friday 13th war, it's extremely likely that Cinquefoil ''is'' Robina]].
* MoneySpider: She steals from the rich and gives to the monsters. Apparently, she is the one responsible for most of the gold you find on them.
* PrettyPrincessPowerhouse: Princess Victoria is secretly the legendary outlaw bandit, Robina the Hood.
* QuestGiver: Of several Dragon Egg Saga quests, and some quests lying around Surewood.
* ReallyRoyaltyReveal: In Sir Ano's quest chain, The Hero finds out that [[spoiler: Robina is actually the secret identity of King Alteon's second daughter, Princess Victoria]].
* RebelliousPrincess: [[spoiler: In spite of, or more likely even because of his own career, King Alteon doesn't exactly approve of any of his daughters getting involved in adventuring, which is part of the reason Princess Victoria poses as an outlaw named Robina. In Book 1, she is a bandit that steals from the rich and gives to the monsters. In Book 3, this goes much further. Since her father is working with The Rose to wipe out magic, she has decided to pose as a boy named Cinquefoil to infiltrate The Rose, understand their true intentions, and to some extent, work against them.]]
%%* RoyalsWhoActuallyDoSomething:
* SamusIsAGirl: [[spoiler:In Book 3, she poses as a boy named Cinquefoil in order to infiltrate The Rose. Her disguise is remarkably effective to the point that even her build looks decidedly masculine.]]
* SeriesMascot: Along with Artix and Twilly, she has constantly been used to promote games by Creator/ArtixEntertainment.
* TomboyPrincess: Rather than stay in the castle wearing pretty dresses, she leads a band of noble outlaws to steal gold from bandits to give to monsters.
* WarriorPrincess: Likes masquerading as a warrior, stealing gold from bandits and giving it away to random monsters for heroes to find and pick up later.

A rare item hunter who took over the "family business" after her father went missing in search of "The Ultimate Treasure". [[spoiler:She is eventually reunited with her father, but he turns out to be a villain]]. Often an ally to the Hero, most prominently during the "Dragon Egg Saga", "Earth Orb Saga", and several "Valtrith" quests. Has something of a rivalry with Symone [=DuBellmount=].
----
* AdventurerArchaeologist: A badass TreasureHunter who has taken on countless monsters.
* DeviousDaggers: As a rogue class who by nature bends the law, she has throwing daggers as an attack.
* EnemyMine: She reluctantly joins forces with her rival Symone to help the Hero take down Baron Valtrith.
* EyesAlwaysShut: In Book 1, while she's invited as a party member, during battles her eyes always appear shut.
* FamilyBusiness: She is a renowned Treasure Hunter, just like her father. She mentions it when the player talks to her in ''That A Way''.
* HairColorDissonance: She has purple hair, which she seems to have inherited from her father.
* MissingMom: Her mother is never shown nor mentioned. She only has her father, Trey Surehunter.
* QuestGiver: Most importantly, of the Bacon Origins questchain.
* TheRival: To Symone, due to {{Treasure Hunter}}s and [[SheWhoFightsMonsters Monster Hunters]] not getting along.
* TheSneakyGuy: She is classed as a rogue, where she favors DeviousDaggers and stealthy attacks.
* TreasureHunter: Her job title, where she dedicates her life to finding treasure.
* TookALevelInBadass: Originally she was always a fixed level 8, and had one special ability which was knife throwing. She received an upgrade along with Artix and now gets scaled with the Hero. She also has three new abilities including; a double hitting attack, a guaranteed critical hit, and additional health potions to the standard two.

The Blue Mage is one of the most powerful {{NPC}}s in the game. In fact, he's ''so'' powerful that he rarely interferes in anything because he can't risk his power getting out of control. Has a rivalry with Xan that goes way, way back.
----
* TenMinuteRetirement: Book 3. He's locked himself in [[MageTower his tower]] for a few years. [[spoiler:Justified, since he's still dealing with the after-effects of being split into two beings, and is trying to fully regain "enough control that [he's] not a danger to everyone around [him]."]]
* AllPowerfulBystander: [[JustifiedTrope Justified]]. For all the almost unlimited capacity for magic (given his lack of need for mana) and his extensive knowledge about magic, he's one of the most powerful characters in the game, but chooses to do nothing against threats directly (...unless someone ''really'' needs him) because it may as well be TheEndOfTheWorldAsWeKnowIt.
* AndYourRewardIsInfancy: [[spoiler:His reward for saving the Ateala from his father, Wargoth, was to become a human baby and end up in Lore, with his memories intact. He didn't take well to the situation, though.]]
* ArchEnemy: To Xan, who had dedicated his entire life to destroying Warlic.
* ArcHero: Initially he was this for the "Wrath of Xan" Saga, but he ends up taking center stage once again in "Book 2: Elemental Dissonance" which revolves around him.
* ArchnemesisDad: His late father, [[spoiler:Wargoth ("Sr.")]]
* ArrogantKungFuGuy: Actually an Arrogant ''Magic'' Guy, but he still fits the trope during his Academy years.
* TheArchmage: The title he is known by.
* AuthorAvatar: Of John (JD) Adams, the real life Warlic, who is in charge of Music and Coding.
* [[spoiler:BackFromTheDead]]: [[LampshadeHanging Lampshaded]]. His [[spoiler:memorial statue]] in Falconreach has "[[UnexplainedRecovery he got better]]" scratched into it.
* BadassBookworm: Though he's a master of the magical arts already, he continues his studies to discover the secrets of the universe.
* BadassLongRobe: During the course of the story, he wears a long, sumptuous blue robe.
* BeingHumanSucks: Warlic definitely felt like this during the first decades of his exile on Lore in human form.
* BigGood: Serves this role alongside Artix, Lady Celestia, and King Alteon. He is tasked with maintaining the elemental order, and is one of the most important allies.
* BreakTheHaughty: [[spoiler: He's a Jerkass until the point when Jaania is frozen and Alex is set on fire. He is immediately horrified as he's realized he's no better than his father, blinded by his ego, and promptly changes his attitude in life, trying to atone for what he's done.]]
* CatchPhrase: "Interesting, very interesting"
* CreateYourOwnVillain: It is Warlic's actions of accidentally setting Alexander on fire and turning the flames to healing flames, which led to the creation of Xan the Insane Pyromancer. Warlic is fully aware of this and blames himself.
* CurtainsMatchTheWindow: He had brown eyes and brown hair in his Academy years, unlike his [[TimeTravelTenseTrouble present/future]] self, who is purple-eyed and [[MysticalWhiteHair white-haired]].
* DeathIsCheap: [[spoiler: He dies during the Elemental Storm War, killed by Nythera, but he's revived not too long after.]]
-->'''Warlic:''' Dying is of little consequence to me, I have been to Death's Realm before. ''We all float there''.
* DeusExitMachina: He might theoretically be able to solve almost every problem you come up against... except that using too much magic would make him [[PhlebotinumOverload overload on mana]] and [[EndOfTheWorldAsWeKnowIt probably destroy the world]].
* DidYouJustPunchOutCthulhu: He is capable of outfighting the Elemental Avatars, and did so once to make them spare his apprentice.
* FightingYourFriend: Xan pits him against the Hero in a SadisticChoice. However this Warlic turns out to be an illusion while the real Warlic teleports behind Xan and pushes him into the Arena for the Hero to fight, while Warlic casts a spell to cut off Xan’s tie from the Pyronomicon.
* FountainOfYouth: In the Alexander Saga, it's the ''second'' time he's experienced teenagehood (in a human body, at that), [[BeingHumanSucks much to his annoyance]].
* GenerationXerox: [[spoiler:Downplayed. Once he splits into "Wargoth" and "the Professor", his Infernal half goes on a rampage on Somorah, the very same planet his father (whose name ''is'' Wargoth) had once terrorized. Like his father, Warlic's half (called "Wargoth" because the Ateala still remembered his father and mistook Warlic for him) terrorized them... before destroying the planet.]]
* GoodHairEvilHair: In the Alexander Saga questchain, he's got a mustache, in contrast to Alexander's beard... and his future clean-shaven, [[MustMakeAmends atoner]] self.
* HalfHumanHybrid: It is unclear whether he is a literal HalfHumanHybrid, but he is not entirely human. [[spoiler:He is in fact, partially demonic in nature.]]

* HeroWithBadPublicity: After Book 2 and the Alexander Saga, his status as the BigGood becomes tarnished, both in- and out-of-universe. After all, ''someone'' destroyed his magic tent in the Elemental Foothills.
* HiddenDepths: He is deceptively more powerful than he first appeared when the Hero teams up with him to take down Xan. This was only a fraction of his true power, which rivals that of the Elemental Avatars.

** According to [[WordOfGod Geo]] (and explicitly stated in ''The Master Apprentice''/''The Duel''), the reason why he's a jerk in the Alexander questchain is because he [[spoiler:remembers how amazing he was in his Infernal form, before rebelling against his tyrant father (standing up for what he thought was right) and paying for it: Reduced to mere humanity, forced to rebuild himself and go through a second childhood, trapped on Lore (and having lost his wings), unable to use his power freely lest he [[StuffBlowingUp 'sploded]]... he's indeed frustrated.]]

* MerlinAndNimue: The Merlin to Nythera's Nimue.
* MinoredInAsskicking: He actively refrains from fighing anyone... unless he really has to. On the other hand, he prefers to assist people with his knowledge of the magical arts.

* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: [[spoiler:He immediately regrets setting Xan's face on fire and trapping Jaania in a crystal. He also probably regrets almost killing everyone as Wargoth. Only time will tell, though.]]
* MyGreatestFailure: According to the Professor, one of Warlic's greatest regrets was (and is) [[spoiler:what he did to Xan all those years ago. What happened to Jaania is most likely the other one.]]
* MustMakeAmends: He is remorseful about his jerkassery during his school years towards Xan and the part he played in trapping Jaania in an Ice crystal. He's tried to redeem himself for two-hundred years by the time the Hero meets him for the first time.
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: He is responsible for Xan and [[spoiler:Jaania]]'s descent into madness and villainy.

* NotAsYouKnowThem: The Alexander Saga, where he's an [[{{ArrogantKungFuGuy}} arrogant]] [[{{Jerkass}} prick]] in contrast with the [[TheStoic level-headed]] [[NiceGuy helpful]] [[TheArchmage archmage]] we know.

But every spell he casts risks bringing about the EndOfTheWorldAsWeKnowIt, [[PhlebotinumOverload especially as he starts reaching his mana pool's capacity]].
** In fact, he did [[spoiler:destroy Somorah, an ENTIRE planet, in his Infernal form.]]
* PlayingWithFire: In ''The Duel'', he has three attacks that do 100% {{Magic}} Fire damage.
** Attack 1 - Runs up to you and turns his orb into fire as flames ignite you for 3 hits
** Attack 2 - Runs up to you and [[SummonMagic summons]] a Fire Imp whom opens up a flame pit for 4 hits
** Attack 3 - Runs up to you then floats and raises his staff at you and sends down fire bolts for 4 hits
* PhlebotinumOverload: As Warlic casts spells, his mana pool actually increases instead of decreasing like most casters. If it increases too much, it risks bringing about the EndOfTheWorldAsWeKnowIt or [[spoiler:splitting Warlic into his two different natures.]]
* PhysicalGod: Warlic at his full potential is so powerful that he can take on the Elemental Avatars, the closest the game has to literal gods. However he rarely resorts to this and is usually an AllPowerfulBystander.
* QuestGiver: Of the "Wrath of Xan" questchain.

* TheRival: To Alexander [[spoiler:until their duel, which ended with Jaania trapped in ice and Alex on fire. From then on, Warlic regretted everything and dropped the rivalry. Xan, still resentful, continues with the animosity.]]
* ShockAndAwe: When fought in ''Xan's Volcano Fortress'' and ''Mind Chamber'', he has two {{magic}} attacks that deal Energy-elemental damage: "[[FlechetteStorm Ice Arrows]]" and "Energy Lightning".

* SplitPersonalityMerge: [[spoiler:As it turns out, the Professor and Wargoth are his human and Infernal halves, respectively. In order to defeat Wargoth, the heroes have to merge them back together into Warlic]].
* SummonMagic: Warlic is capable of summoning Fire Imps and Flamedances to torment Alex in ''The Master Apprentice'', ''Playing with Fire'' and ''The Duel''.
* WizardDuel: In ''Petty Squabbles'', Warlic dares Alexander into prove that he can defeat him through a duel. It doesn't end well.

* IconicAttributeAdoptionMoment: At the begining of the "Ice Orb" questline, his armor is pristine and he wields a spear instead of his trademark Dragonblade. 610* AuthorAvatar: Of the real life Tomix Danao, lead artist and animator for ''VideoGame/DragonFable''.
* BadassFingersnap: In Book 1, his "Circle of Retribution" attack has him summoning a whole heap of soul daggers which surround the opponent. Then at a snap of his fingers all of them fly toward and pierce the enemy.
* BadassLongcoat: Wears a long brown coat that goes to his ankles.
* BladeSpam: He has several attacks that involve rapid strikes with his spiritlooms.
* BlessedWithSuck: Tomix's spiritlooms were fused to his hands due to an accident early in his life. When they broke during the fight with Greed, his physical hands were destroyed along with them. In Book 3 he has materialized his soul to replace his hands. His weapons now being a permanent part of him allow him to be very deadly in combat, however it means his "hands" can no longer physically touch anything material and will pass right through.
* BornUnlucky: Poor Tomix, sometimes it seems like he's Lore's personal stress ball. He released corrupted spirits by accident, fought with his brother, had to fight off and seal the corrupt spirits, [[spoiler: lost both of his arms fighting Greed, didn't get the girl, and died to destroy Envy]]. 619* CrutchCharacter: Tomix replaced Artix as the most powerful Party Member at the time, being able to land multiple hits with high chance of critical damage. Plus he does "Evil" damage which has quite rare resistance.

* [[spoiler:DeadManWalking: In Book 3 he knows his time is coming to an end, as that is the only way to defeat Envy, and does not plan on returning from the trip into the void.]]
* DidNotGetTheGirl: Despite a very obvious signs that Tomix and Riadne had feelings for one another in Book 1, ultimately they do not get together. 641* OhCrap: Related to his WideEyesAndShrunkenIrises moment mentioned below.
* OneManArmy: At the time of his introduction he was the most powerful guest, and remained that way for a very long time. He can easily mow down hordes of Chaosweavers and other enemies in the cutscenes.
* PurpleIsPowerful: His soul manifestations are purple in color, which is also the color of his soul self. This is also due to the fact that he harnesses the "Evil-element" as part of his DarkIsNotEvil theme.
* QuestGiver: Of the Ravenloss questchain, in both Book 1 and Book 3. Alternatively called the "Tomix Saga".
* SanitySlippage: During the Void Voyage in Book 3, Tomix is more and more obsessed with taking down Envy. And only the player character along with the other Void ship crew members manage to hold him from slipping into fits of madness every so often.
* ShipTease: With Riadne in Book 1, and slightly with Captain Mazurek in Book 3.
* SiblingRivalry: He doesn't get along with his brother.
* SilverFox: His hair was originally red, but turned silver after he messed with the spirit looms tainted with the corrupted Spirits.
* StealthPun: He has a ''soul'' patch.
* TheStoic: He is one of the most serious, melancholic heroes featured in the game. The Hero even comments that he was way too serious.
* SuperSpeed: As a Soul Weaver, Tomix has incredible speed.
