He is also a key ally in the fight against Caitiff in Book 3.

!!!Mazurek
A pirate captain from Osprey Cove, and later admiral. Tomix and the Hero go to her for help to sail through the void in their quest to stop Envy. Afterwards she becomes a reoccurring character for pirate related quests. She reappears in the Caitiff questchain where Sho'Nuff Island is attacked by darkness with the pirates and ninjas, believing each other are responsible before the Hero intervenes. She also regularly in "Talk Like A Pirate Day" events.

A former classmate and [[ChildhoodFriends childhood friend]] of Tomix, who ends up becoming a teacher at Edelia School of [=SoulWeaving=]. In Book 3 he is in a relationship with Riadne, but is ill. He is recruited as a member of the Void Ship Crew.

** MindVirus: As a result of the attack, he has been infected by a void virus that caused him to slowly descend into madness.
* SiblingYinYang: Is far more polite and affable than his younger brother Lanrete. Though as his mind wears away from Void Madness, it remains to be seen how long he'll stay that way.

* LoveableRogue: Is a pirate, but quite a nice one by pirates standards.

* ArchEnemy: To Envy. While Tomix had dedicated his life to hunting down the corrupt elemental spirits he had released, it is Envy who is the most personal due to losing as his BigBadFriend Aspar. Along with the fact his life is tied to Envy’s due to being his [=SoulAlly=], meaning vanquishing Envy would also end his own life.

* BlessedWithSuck: Tomix's spiritlooms were fused to his hands due to an accident early in his life. When they broke during the fight with Greed, his physical hands were destroyed along with them. In Book 3 he has materialized his soul to replace his hands. His weapons now being a permanent part of him allow him to be very deadly in combat, however it means his "hands" can no longer physically touch anything and will pass right through.

* AnimalMotifs: The cat.

* AntiHero: He seems to be a hero who's OnlyInItForTheMoney, though he does have a CodeOfHonour and learns from the Hero of the value of fighting for what he believes in.

* VanHelsingHateCrimes: Artix slays the undead on sight, without a second of consideration for the consequences and if they really are a threat. While it's true most undead are souls of the deceased forced to serve the evil necromancer controlling them, some of them aren't doing any harm and prefer their undead state. This even includes benevolent spirits trying to help the heroes. This is played with a few times.

* HurtingHero: In Book 3 he becomes grief-stricken and wrought with guilt after realizing [[spoiler:Aspar was Envy, who had been using him all this time.]]
