TheProtagonist of ''Disgaea 4''. Valvatorez is a vampire who was once known as "The Tyrant" for his incredible power. However, after a certain incident he refused to consume human blood, which caused his powers to rapidly decline and his eventual demotion to a lowly Prinny Instructor in Hades. Despite this he takes his demotion in stride, and although he can be a bit of an idiot at times he possesses a ferocious and unbreakable sense of demonic honor.
----
* AddictionDisplacement: Has replaced vampiric blood-drinking with sardines.
* AffectionateNickname: "Mr. Weirdo", oddly enough. Artina always says it with a smile.
* AlmightyJanitor: Even after enough LevelGrinding to overthrow the Corrupternment, Val insists that he's merely a simple Prinny Instructor. Also, despite the DePower, Zetta of all people considers him a worthy opponent.
* AntiHero: Inverse type 3. He's a pretty nice guy, and while he's clearly NOT evil despite his claims, he's certainly morally ambigious, meaning that it's pretty hard to determine if he's good or neutral.
* BadassCape: Dons a badass vampiric cape, which he can turn into wings.
* BadassLongcoat: As the Tyrant. Overlaps somewhat with a CoatCape; it's that badass.
* BadLiar: Really, Fenrich is the one mainly keeping up the act that he’s trying to take over the Netherworld. He’s even surprised when this is first announced.
* BenevolentBoss: Though he's only doing it to keep his promise and while he may be strict, he takes his job as Prinny Instructor ''seriously'' and the Prinnies really respect him for it. This is a stark contrast to BadBoss [[Characters/DisgaeaHourOfDarkness Etna.]] It even shows in the Prinnies' work ethic as they seem a lot more competent.
** Some of the Prinnies in the post-game even lampshade this if spoken to, bitter that other Prinny instructors aren't as good or protective a boss as Val.
** This is one of the reasons why Laharl recruits Valvatorez post game in D2. The Prinnies won't listen to them so he needs someone who can educate the Prinnies from the bottom up. If you have Valvatorez talk to the Prinnies of all personalities inside the castle, you find out that all the Prinnies worship the ground Valvatorez is on as he educates him. Even the lazy Prinny personality that tends to dismiss everyone is motivated to do work because Valvatorez's speech is inspirational for Prinnies.
* BerserkButton: Anything Prinny-related that breaks the rules, and insulting sardines. More seriously, breaking promises and war. Both of these things have something to do with [[spoiler:Artina]].
* BroughtDownToBadass: Terrifyingly strong for someone who's supposed to have been ''de''-powered. He insists that this is the power of sardines.
* CannotSpitItOut: It's pretty obvious that he has feelings for [[spoiler:Artina]], which he, of course, denies. Nobody buys it.
* CapeSwish: One of his more common animations, especially when he delivers a RousingSpeech or when he ''really'' means business. ([[LargeHam Which is often.]])
** Happens whenever a battle is about to start as his combat animation.
* CelibateHero: "Women are truly unnecessary for someone who is on the road to becoming a ruler." [[spoiler:'''''Also''''' due to Artina]]
* ClassicalMovieVampire: Back when he was "The Tyrant", he had more stereotypical vampire behaviors, such as sucking blood.
* ClassyCravat: Also back when he was "The Tyrant", he wore a cravat. As a "simply prinny instructor" he does not.
* CloudCuckoolander: He ain't nicknamed "Mr. Weirdo" for nothing.
* CreepyCrosses: He's a vampire and former tyrant with inverted crosses embroidered on his pants.
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: He may be a gullible Prinny Instructor who loves sardines, but he was once called a Tyrant for a reason!
* CuteLittleFangs: Being a vampire, he naturally sports one.
* DarkIsNotEvil: Despite being a vampire who dresses in black and can have a scary voice when he's mad, for the most part he is a NiceGuy, and the friendliest of the five game protagonists.
* DaywalkingVampire: Doesn't appear to be harmed by sunlight.
* DePower: Due to not drinking blood, though he isn't any weaker because of it. [[spoiler:Though this is potentially reversed in the Artina ending, in which she finally allows him to drink her blood.]]
* {{Determinator}}: Whether it's keeping his promises, having Prinnies obey the Prinny rules, or correcting a typo, nothing will stop him from achieving his goals [[spoiler:even if it means going up against God]].
* DidYouJustPunchOutCthulhu: In an extended scenario of the Normal Ending, Valvatorez is summoned by God to be warned not to anger him. Valvatorez's response is not only to give a speech to God to not interfere again but punches God in the face. However, Valvatorez thinks that the voice might not have been God at all...
* DontYouDarePityMe: [[spoiler:While Valvatorez was touched that Artina would willingly offer her blood to him, he was also frustrated that a mere human not only didn't fear him, but ''pitied'' him. Thus his promise: he will not drink blood — Artina's or anyone else's — until he can show her true terror.]]
* TheDreaded: Subverted. In his Tyrant state, he was considered a horrifying boogeyman to humans and demons alike whose name was uttered in hushed voices. He's actually a pretty nice guy who treats spreading fear as a job.
* EeriePaleSkinnedBrunette: It comes with being a vampire. Sunlight may not hurt him specifically but he's still not going to tan.
%%* EvilLaugh: Dishes out a few.
* EvilSoundsDeep: In Japanese, his voice during his days as a Tyrant is noticeably lower and [[EvilSoundsRaspy raspy]], making him come off as far more threatening than the Prinny Instructor we all know and love. Still, present-day Val will occasionally use his Tyrant voice (usually when he makes a RousingSpeech) to show that he ''really'' means business.
* ExpositoryHairstyleChange: Has cut his hair since his Tyrant days.
* {{Facepalm}}: His default pose seems to be a ''cultured'' version of this.
* FamedInStory: Mostly during his Tyrant days, but NewsTravelsFast when he makes his intentions to overthrow the Corrupterment known.
* TheFettered: His determination to keep his promise to Artina, and thus not drink blood, keeps him from accessing his full power most of the time.
* FountainOfYouth: Despite being four hundred years older, Val sure looks a lot younger compared to his [[http://news.dengeki.com/elem/000/000/379/379964/img.html Tyrant days]]. It's possibly a side effect of abstaining from blood.
* FriendlyNeighborhoodVampire: He’s rather cheery and good-willed, despite being a former tyrant
* GameplayAndStorySegregation: His skills show him presumably chowing down on his opponents, daemon or otherwise, but they '''''never''''' count as drinking human blood.
* GrammarNazi: Storms the Information Bureau because they spelled "Prinny" wrong in a newspaper and gives severe punishments for prinnies who do not add DOOD to any sentence.
* GuestStarPartyMember: Tyrant Valvatorez joins Fenrich in all of the Flashback Episode's battles, but despite being able to control him, he's still counted as an NPC. However, he becomes a fully playable character once the Flashback Episode is completed.
** As per Disgaea tradition, he and Fenrich show up as recruitables in Disgaea D2.
* HeroesPreferSwords: As with previous ''Franchise/{{Disgaea}}'' main characters, he's not restricted to using only swords, but he can naturally learn most sword skills and promotional material usually show him wielding a sword. Keeping promises and taking good care of underlings are heroic traits, after all.
* HeroicVow: To not drink human blood. Fenrich has been trying and failing to get him to break this for four hundred years.
* HeroicWillpower: Unlike the other characters, Valvatorez isn't affected by the A Virus. He attributes this to "spirit, fortitude, and the power of sardines."
* HeyYou: He doesn't use a lot of people's names, though in Emizel's ending he finally acknowledges him and calls him something other than rascal.
* HighCollarOfDoom: The collar of his cape swoops up in his depowered form.
* HonorBeforeReason: He will keep his promise even if the one he made the promise to has been dead for over four hundred years and even if he's losing his power because of it.
* HorribleJudgeOfCharacter: Not as a bad as Flonne, but he can be very gullible. When Fenrich tells lies about Axel that he's sided with them, Valvatorez actually believes them, [[ManipulativeBastard which, knowing Fenrich, was likely part of the plan]].
* HotBlooded: A lot of things are SeriousBusiness to him, including his job as a Prinny instructor.
* HowTheMightyHaveFallen: Not that he's particularly concerned -- he would have never discovered sardines otherwise! Not to mention he's still MUCH more powerful than he claims he is.
* HumbleHero: He insists on being a mere prinny instructor. It gets to the point that he seems to be in denial of his influence and power.
* IdealIllnessImmunity: Valvatorez doesn't seem to get sick at all, which is presumably why he's immune to the A-Virus. In the Flashback episode, Fenrich notes that he's tried poisoning Val multiple times and he didn't even notice. According to him, with spirit, fortitude, and sardines the A-Virus should be harmless, and it seems to work for him.
* IdiotHero: Not stupid per se, but somewhat gullible, bull-headed, and with just enough CloudCuckooLander tendencies to make him come off as a bit of a dope.
** This is lampshaded somewhat in DLC flashbacks when Fenrich asks how he survived so long acting like this, to which Valvatorez replies "Easy, I'm strong."
* IGaveMyWord: Takes promises very seriously because [[spoiler:the first time he didn't, things went badly]].
* IHaveManyNames: Tyrant Valvatorez, the Bloodthirsty King of Fear, the Blood-soaked Valvatorez of Absolute Evil, The King of Carnage and Atrocity.
--> '''Valvatorez''': Hmph... I had almost forgotten about all those old aliases... Those were cute.
* ILetYouWin: Defeated by Fuka at the end of chapter two of the Fuka and Desco Show. However, even ''she'' knows that he let her win.
* InSeriesNickname: Fenrich calls him "Lord Val". Fuka and Desco call him "Valzy". Vulcanus calls him "Mr. Vampire" or occasionally "Mr. Weirdo".
* ItsAllMyFault: He blames himself for [[spoiler:the death of Artina]].
* JustTheFirstCitizen: [[spoiler:Valvatorez, for all intents and purposes, is ruling the Netherworld after the end of the game — he just completely refuses to recognize himself as anything higher than a simple Prinny Instructor.]]
* LargeHam: A vampire who can speak passionately about anything, but ''especially'' when it comes to sardines and promises. ''Especially'' in the English dub, where Creator/TroyBaker proves himself capable of devouring whole sets in one bite.
** In Fuka and Desco mode, he must have decided to become the largest ham possible. The only thing missing would HamToHamCombat with [[VideoGame/SoulNomadAndTheWorldEaters Gig.]] And then again in the ''Flashback Episode'', where we learn that he was a gigantic ham in his past and, in the present, he starts mixing up his speeches with dramatic highs and lows in a manner somewhat reminiscent of Creator/WilliamShatner. And then there's his hamtastic "ThePowerOfFriendship RousingSpeech"...
* TheLeader: The government attempting to eliminate the Prinnies makes Val finally realize that something is badly wrong in the Netherworld, causing him to slowly form a resistance group to overthrow the current president.
* LifeDrain: His special attacks have this. Too bad it never gives enough to be any use.
* MadnessMantra: He takes his job so seriously that he completely loses it when met with opposition. He tries to educate Pringer X (a mute HumongousMecha Prinny) in proper Prinny etiquette, with the following results:
-->'''Valvatorez:''' Prinny Rule No.1! You shall always include the word "dood" in every line you say!\
'''Pringer X:''' ...\
'''Emizel:''' It's a robot. It probably can't even talk.\
'''Valvatorez:''' Prinny Rule No.1! You shall ALWAYS include the word "DOOD" in every line you say!\
'''Pringer X:''' ...\
'''Fuka:''' This is stupid. I'm outta here.\
'''Desco:''' Eh, Desco too...\
'''Artina:''' Good luck, Mr. Vampire...\
'''Narrator:''' An hour later...\
'''Valvatorez:''' Prinny Rule... No.1! You shall always include the word "dood"... in ''every line you say''!\
'''Pringer X:''' ...\
'''Valvatorez:''' ''Prinny Rule No.1!'' '''[[SanitySlippage YOU SHALL ALWAYS INCLUDE THE WORD "DOOD" IN EVERY LINE YOU SAY!]]'''\
'''Pringer X:''' ...\
'''Narrator:''' This exchange was said to have continued for [[{{Determinator}} another. Ten. Hours.]]
* MagneticHero: With a little help behind the scenes by Fenrich, Valvatorez effectively amasses a full-blown ''army'' willing to fight on his side. For Tyrant Valvatorez, this even extends to gameplay — one of his evilities makes it so [[DefeatMeansFriendship any enemy he personally defeats becomes your ally for the rest of the battle.]]
* TheMenFirst: Considers those who serve under him as his equals, and has even gone as far as [[spoiler:TakingTheBullet]] for someone he's only entered the most casual of alliances with.
* MoralityPet: To Fenrich, who is a scheming {{Jerkass}}, but Valvatorez keeps him in line, and Fenrich's UndyingLoyalty and dedication to his lord is his most prominent virtue.
* MultiSlotCharacter: In ''4'' his Tyrant incarnation is a separate unlockable character. Averted in ''5'' where its DemotedToExtra as a SuperMode.
* MyGreatestFailure: [[spoiler:He didn't take his promise with Artina (when she was a human) all that seriously, and she ended up dead because of it. That's the main reason why he takes every promise seriously from then on.]]
* NecessarilyEvil: Valvatorez considers villainy to be a very vital community service to the cosmos. [[spoiler:He also has plans to TakeOverTheWorld along with the Netherworld -- not because he has any desire to rule them, but because both places have done such a fantastic job of screwing themselves up that he feels the need to intervene personally.]]
* NiceGuy: Easily one of the kindest of the seven main characters in the series.
* NobleDemon: To the point that he is quite possibly the most honorable demon/netherworld-born character in the entire ''series''. In the post game, he even [[spoiler:offers Asagi the position of main character. The only reason she didn't take up the offer is because she didn't want to be pitied and didn't want her numerous other cameos to seem like a waste of time.]]
* NoDoubtTheYearsHaveChangedMe: Since he looks significantly younger than he used to thanks to his power degeneration, [[spoiler:Vulcanus/Artina]] fails to recognize him until he gives her his name.
* TheNoseKnows: Can always identify the scent of human blood, which is why Fenrich's been unable to sneak the stuff into his meals.
* OneWingedAngel: In ''Disgaea 5'', his Overload has him assume his Tyrant form again for three turns.
* OurVampiresAreDifferent: Although he does suck blood, which allows him to unleash his magical powers, a promise he made long ago caused him to refrain from drinking blood. He [[VegetarianVampire replaces blood with sardines]] as his primary form of nutrition, though this causes his powers to deplete. He's still very powerful despite said DePower, still able to use traditional vampire transformation powers into bats, dark mists, and satanic beasts.
* OutOfCharacterMoment: Particularly in the Fuka and Desco show when concerning Axel's rant. As much of an annoyance he finds Axel, to not believe in what Axel said (given he is rather gullible and moved by these types of speeches) comes off as downright mean.
* ParentheticalSwearing: Done literally. When he refers to Axel, a parenthetical note helpfully points out that what he ''really'' means is "idiot".
* ThePollyanna: Which Fenrich is quick to observe.
-->'''Fenrich:''' [[{{Sweatdrop}} ...]] What an impressive ability to overwrite his memory of losing his power and being forced to take the least wanted job in the Netherworld. This is another one of his formidable powers. He can convert any suffering he's been through into something positive.
* PowerUpFood: "'''''SARDINE!''''' You want to know the secret to my power? It's the sardines. Eat them, and you will grow stronger as well."
* ThePromise: His will to keep his promises surpasses even ''[[Characters/Disgaea2CursedMemories Adell's]]''. [[spoiler:His first big promise was to not drink human blood, and he's kept that promise for ''400 years'' despite it causing his powers to deplete. On top of that, he makes additional promises with several characters, all of which he plans on keeping, much to Fenrich's annoyance.]]
* PunchClockVillain: Even as a Tyrant, he considered spreading fear in the human world to be just a necessary job.
* PurposelyOverpowered: With depowered Val already being as strong as he is, Tyrant Valvatorez would have to be a complete GameBreaker to be anything other than OverratedAndUnderleveled — so they made him a complete GameBreaker. Just about the only things that keep him from outright obliterating every stage in the Flashback episodes are the Geo Panel setups [[spoiler:and permanent poison (though his LifeDrain specials mitigate this)]] in the last two stages.
* ReallySevenHundredYearsOld: His age has been confirmed to be 2542, officially making him the oldest member in the group. Being a vampire, he also looks a lot younger than he used to, largely because of his power loss.
* RealMenWearPink: Valvatorez wears a pink apron in the end credits when he finally gets to fulfill his promise to the Prinnies by giving them a sardine feast.
* RedAndBlackAndEvilAllOver: By a [[NobleDemon very loose definition of evil]], his fashion choice certainly fits with his previous titles such as "blood soaked" and "tyrant".
* RedEyesTakeWarning: Merely that he's a demon, otherwise a counter example. Unless he's ''really'' upset, then they turn completely red (no viable pupil or iris).
* RousingSpeech: Has a habit of giving these. Many of them are to prinnies so they will act like proper prinnies.
* SayMyName: Val really likes yelling Axel's name for some reason, whether it's to call out Axel when he makes his appearance ("Warden Axel!") or screaming his name when he "[[NotQuiteDead dies]]" ("Axxxeeelll!!!").
* SeriousBusiness: When it comes to Prinnies, Val will accept nothing less than perfection. He lays siege to the corrupternment's Information Bureau. Is it because they're sock puppets for the corrupternment and had falsely reported Emizel's death? No. It was because they misspelled "Prinnies" and he wanted them to print a correction.
* SheIsNotMyGirlfriend: He insists that he feels nothing romantic for Vulcanus [[spoiler:aka Artina]] but part of this is because he refuses to believe that Vulcanus ''is'' [[spoiler: Artina]]. Just watch what happens after the Zetta battle.
* ShipTease: Much of the game teases him with Fenrich and [[spoiler:Artina/Vulcanus]]. There's also a little bit of him being teased with Fuka, moreso in the manga.
** In the normal endings, all of his comrades show their affection to [[LauncherOfAThousandShips him.]]
* ShonenHair: His hair certainly is spiky. He even had a ponytail as a Tyrant.
* SkywardScream: When Vulcanus is knocked unconscious taking a bullet for him, it causes a lot of anguish to him due to HistoryRepeats (especially since she massively resembles the person who originally took the bullet for him) thus leading to him unleashing the scream.
** Unleashes another one in the manga, when Axel [[PlayedForLaughs "dies"]].
* SpellMyNameWithAnS: While NISA has decided on a name, "Val" has gone through many different spellings. [[note]]Alternate spellings included Valbatoze, Valbatose, Valbatoz, Valbatos, Varbatose, Barbatos...[[/note]]
* StupidGood: He follows his own moral code to the bitter end, but thanks to Fenrich, he does not always have to live with the bad consequences of this.
* SuperGullible: He'll believe lies told about his ''own motives and actions.'' He also thinks that Axel is a noble compatriot who died in the line of duty when he was entirely and openly hostile to them every time they encountered him. Why? Because Fenrich said so. DLC explains that as a Tyrant, he was so outrageously powerful that he never required a sense of suspicion, because even if someone directly tried to assassinate him from behind his back, he probably wouldn't even notice, let alone take injury.
--> '''Fenrich''': My lord’s undoubting heart is another of his formidable abilities.
* SuperScream: His most powerful unique moves have him transform into a satanic lookalike and unleash a powerful scream.
* SuperToughness: Thanks to his "spirit and fortitude", there are very few things that can actually hurt him. [[spoiler:Even less when he was Tyrant.]]
* TakeOverTheWorld: Promises to several characters in the ending that he will take over the universe in order to help fulfill their goals.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Sardines.
* TrueCompanions: Believes wholeheartedly in this [[spoiler:even during his Tyrant days]].
* {{Tsundere}}: Sweet type. He believes in the power of bonds and will easily speak positively of the camaraderie he has with the rest of the Hades Party. With ''romance'', however, he gets very skittish, denying any feelings he had for Artina. Even post reveal, he's still standoffish around her and doesn't want anyone to think that he actually likes her or holds any interest in her apart from scaring her so he can drink blood again.
* UnreliableExpositor: You ''can'' take his story about how he met Artina at face value. He met a noble woman, agreed not to feed on her or anyone else until he scared her and promised to protect her until he could drink her blood. That's the part that definitely happened. However, when she died before he could fulfill his promise, there are two interpretations for his reaction. He was upset because he was being forced to break a promise, he just happened to admire her somewhat and he only wanted to kill everyone responsible simply because now he would be forced to refrain from human blood. Or you can take the much more intuitive interpretation like Fuka does and assume he is simply grieving over the death of a woman he loved after he failed to save her and wanted revenge on her killers. At the very least, though, [[BelievingTheirOwnLies he's mostly convinced himself of his own version of events]] and is most definitely [[{{Tsundere}} not in love with Artina in the present.]]
* VampiricDraining: Averted for now [[spoiler:thanks to a promise]].
* VegetarianVampire: He made a vow to never drink blood again. [[spoiler: This is due to a promise to Artina, which, since she died before he drank her blood, he ''refuses'' to drink '''''any''''' human blood.]]
* VoluntaryShapeshifting: Some of his skills hint that his true form is a massive black vampiric dragon.
* WarIsHell: Due to the circumstances [[spoiler:behind his and Artina's meeting and her death]], he hates war. He gets unusually mad when Fuka declares war on him.
* WillfullyWeak: Which gets even more noticeable once you get to play as Tyrant Valvatorez, his past self with full powers. In the Flashback episodes, he's pretty much the "I Win" button because no one can get close enough to harm him. His stats are extremely high, his aptitudes are better than any other playable character, and all of his three evilities are borderline broken.
* WorthyOpponent: Overlord Zetta considers him to be one. Yes, even when depowered.

A cunning [[OurWerewolvesAreDifferent Werewolf]] who acts as Valvatorez' attendant. [[UndyingLoyalty Completely devoted to Val]], he would like nothing more than for his master to regain his former power and rule over the Netherworld as The Tyrant, and [[TheChessmaster engineers several plots to ensure just that]].
----
* AnimalStereotypes: Dogs are loyal while wolves are fierce, and Fenrich is [[UndyingLoyalty very]] [[TheConsigliere much]] [[PsychoSidekick both]].
* BareFistedMonk: He uses gloves as his weapon.
* BattleButler: He's Val's butler and fights alongside him.
* BerserkButton: Fenrich tends to start throwing death threats at anyone he thinks is either getting too friendly with Val or not showing him enough respect.
* BlowYouAway: His unique specials are of the wind element.
* BodyguardCrush: Fuka certainly thinks he has one on Valvatorez. [[HomoeroticSubtext It's hard to prove her wrong]].
* TheBully: He's rather cruel originally to anyone that is not Valvatorez and seems to enjoy pushing everyone's buttons. He generally enjoys making Axel's life as miserable as possible.
* CharacterCatchphrase: "All is for my Lord", "Ahou ka?"[[note]]"Are you stupid?", though there is no set catchphrase in the actual dub.[[/note]], "I'll kill you!", "X is one of my Lord Valvatorez's many formidable powers."
* ChainedByFashion: Each of his front legs gets a chain in his last special attack.
* TheChessmaster: Fenrich is rather devious. He's often pulling off {{Batman Gambit}}s on the fly, and often under the nose of his Lord Val. It doesn't always work out, since Valvatorez and other characters can sometimes act as a SpannerInTheWorks, but he comes out on top with his dastardly plans of getting his master back in position as Tyrant more often then not.
* ChessmasterSidekick: All his machinations are for his master's benefit, [[PsychoSidekick even if said master would probably not always approve]].
* TheConsigliere: He's always at his master's side to provide backup and guidance (even if Valvatorez's kookiness and [[HonorBeforeReason unshakable sense of honor]] mean he isn't always listened to).
* CrazyJealousGuy: While he's not exactly crazy, he's definitely not fond of any girl who develops feelings for his Lord, [[spoiler:which is why he despises Artina]].
%%* DeadpanSnarker
* DeathGlare: Loves to dish these out when particularly irritated, complete with a "lean-on-one-shoulder and stare someone with an angry eye" gesture (used by delinquents and thugs).
* DontLookAtMe: His reaction when he is turned into [[spoiler:Axel]] in regards to Valvatorez.
* TheDragon: A textbook example to Valvatorez, as his closest ally, most loyal subordinate, top enforcer, and all-around go-to guy. Subverted only in that he and his boss aren't villains.
* DragonWithAnAgenda: Played straight, though not maliciously. He has a secret goal in mind, and while it's unclear if Val knows what exactly it is, he's aware of its existence and happy to help Fenrich achieve it.
* ExpectingSomeoneTaller: When Minitros hires him to [[spoiler:kill Valvatorez]] in Tyrant Valvatorez mode, the first thing he does is comment that the [[RedBaron Moonlight Fang]] is a bit skinnier than he imagined.
* FakingTheDead: After TakingTheBullet for Valvatorez, Fenrich [[spoiler:fakes a dramatic death in order to squeeze a LastRequest from him to drink his blood. After he fails and drops the act, [[WhatTheHellHero the rest of the team unanimously agrees that it was a massive dick move on his part.]]]]
* FurAgainstFang: Averted. While he thinks Valvatorez's belief is foolish, he firmly believes that his master is meant for greater things and is even willing to dirty his hands if it means that Valvatorez will be put into a good position (such as when he sics the Abbadon on Axel before he can rat out Valvatorez to them).
%%* GentlemanSnarker
%%* GuileHero
%%* HadesShaded
* HappinessInSlavery: He's completely content to be Val's servant.
%%* HellBentForLeather
* HeyYou: Like Valvatorez, he also refuses to use peoples' names most of the time, though he's ruder about the substitutes. Artina is always Thief Angel, for example.
%%* HonestAdvisor
* HyperCompetentSidekick: Not that it would be hard to be smarter than [[IdiotHero Valvatorez]], but beyond that he's also able to typically stay a step ahead of the antagonists unless something shows he couldn't possibly have foreseen.
* InSeriesNickname: "Fenfen" by Fuka and Desco. [[EmbarrassingNickname He absolutely hates it.]] Vulcanus calls him "Mr. Werewolf".
* {{Jerkass}}: Towards anyone who isn't Valvatorez. [[JerkWIthAHeartOfGold He mellows out a bit near the end, though.]]
* TheKnightsWhoSaySquee: He is a closet Pleinair fan!
* LittleBitBeastly: As a werewolf, he naturally has a long, bushy tail. He lacks the corresponding animal ears, though.
* {{Lunacy}}: Being a werewolf, he naturally gets his powers from the moon, and some of his Evilities allude to that.
* ManipulativeBastard: Not only is he good at manipulating events, but emotions and perspectives as well.
* MistakenForGay: Fuka outright asks him if he "swings that way" in episode 5. He doesn't deny it.
%%* MrFanservice:
%%* NeckLift: Does this to Axel in the manga.
* NotSoStoic: Usually cool and collected in almost all circumstances, but he starts to lose it when [[spoiler:the moon is put in jeopardy; not only because it's his source of power as a werewolf, but also because it's the symbol of his promise to Valvarorez]].
* OnlyInItForTheMoney: Immediately inquired about his reward the minute Minotrose said Tyrant Valvatorez was his target. [[spoiler:He more or less invokes the trope when [[BigDamnHeroes Tyrant Valvatorez tries to save him]] and declares Fenrich to be his [[TrueCompanions comrade]].]]
* OnlySaneMan: Shares this title with Emizel when the latter joins the party.
* Really700YearsOld: Just like Valvatorez.
* RedAndBlackAndEvilAllOver: His clothes are primarily red and black in color.
* ParentheticalSwearing: Has mastered the art of making "All is for my Lord" and "X is one of my Lord Valvatorez's many formidable powers" mean anything from "Sir, yes sir" to "You are the biggest idiot in the world." Val never catches on, though.
* PrecisionFStrike: Tends to call [[spoiler:Artina]] a bitch when he's particularly upset at her. Also to Fuka when she brings [[spoiler:Artina]] up in episode 5.
* ProfessionalKiller: His job before serving Valvatorez.
* PsychoticSmirk: Smiles like this when he is about to do something ManipulativeBastard-like.
%%* RightHandHottie
* SarcasticDevotee: Undyingly loyal to Valvatorez though he may be, he's not blind to his master's airheadedness, and takes the occasional stealthy crack at him when he can.
* ServileSnarker: His UndyingLoyalty to Valvatorez doesn't stop him from being a DeadpanSnarker, and he does take a few veiled cracks at his master every once in a while (usually whenever Valvatorez's [[NobleDemon code of honor]] kicks in).
* TheStoic: Being calm is kinda his thing. Impressive that he manages to maintain it almost all the time. The only time he loses it is when [[spoiler:the moon is endangered]].
%%* SupernaturalGoldEyes
%%* SurroundedByIdiots: How Fenrich feels about the rest of the party.
* TakeOverTheWorld: [[spoiler:Fenrich's goal in life is to turn his Lord into the conqueror of the universe.]]
* TakingTheBullet: Takes a combined assault from the Ten Overlords to defend Val. However, despite initially seeming to be mortally wounded, he gives up the act when Valvatorez makes it clear he still won't drink humanish blood, even to grant a dying friend's last request. [[WhatTheHellHero The party isn't amused]] and the Overlords are upset that they've grown so weak that they can't even kill a werewolf.
%%* TallDarkAndSnarky
* TeethClenchedTeamwork: With the rest of the party, particularly Vulcanus. Eventually moves into VitriolicBestBuds territory, though Fenrich would probably die before he ever admitted it.
* TokenEvilTeammate: The rest of the party are good or arguably so like Valvatorez and Artina or simply neutral/childish like Fuka, Desco, and Emizel, but Fenrich is rather cruel and seems to enjoy hurting people.
* TooCleverByHalf: Outwits himself in chapter 5 by first manipulating Valvatorez into promising to take down the Angel of Avarice if she gets in the way and then tricks her into attacking by pretending their group has a high bounty placed on them. He doesn't want her to get in his way, but if he had left well enough alone, she and Valvatorez would have parted on bad terms and quite likely never have come into contact with each other again. But then again, if that had happened, Fenrich and the rest of the party minus Val himself would have turned into Axel and [[spoiler:Valvatorez wouldn't have been able to drink her blood and regain his power in her epilogue.]]
* ToxicFriendInfluence: He's constantly trying to get Valvatorez to break his vow to not drink blood anymore, but Valvatorez is almost always able to sus him out before anything happens.
* {{Troll}}: Though most of his plans and actions are for his lord, he does derive joy from the misfortune of those it affects, particularly if they're preceded or followed with his PsychoticSmirk.
* {{Tsundere}}: He's quite verbally abusive and would not hesitate to kill the rest of the party members if they proved to be obstacles, but when he accidentally lets slip some concern for the party members, they begin teasing him, for which he threatens to kill them.
* UndyingLoyalty: All is for his lord.
* WerewolfThemeNaming: Named after Fenrir, the monstrous wolf from Norse Mythology.
* WildHair: His hair is unkempt and he is certainly wilder than his lord.
* {{Wolfman}}: He turns into one as his last Special Attack.
%%* YouMonster: Fuka calls him this.
* YoungerThanTheyLook: Official age is confirmed to be 2079, yet he looks older than Valvatorez. Then again, Val's more youthful appearance is due to his DePower. Val's original Tyrant form definitely looks older than Fenrich.

A middle-school student who died and was sent to the Netherworld. She was supposed to become a Prinny, but due to a shortage on Prinny suits, she just had a hat and jacket slapped on her instead. She is under the impression that her experience in the Netherworld is AllJustADream and believes that she should be able to do whatever she wants because of it. Her father was the one who created Desco based on the dying plea of his late wife, who told him to fulfill Fuka's childhood wish: "[[SiblingsWanted To have a little sister]]... with [[SuperPoweredRobotMeterMaids advanced functionality]], to help [her] TakeOverTheWorld". She was killed by Desco's successor, Des X, out of jealousy and sent to the Netherworld because AmbitionIsEvil.

* BadassAdorable: She looks no different than your average teenage girl, but she packs a mean-enough punch to keep up with her demonic comrades.
* BarredFromTheAfterlife: When Fuka says she could probably do Flonne's job at least as well as her, Flonne says she's never going to be allowed into Celestia. Later, she manages to get herself banned from ''reincarnation'' because A. she refuses to accept she died and became a Prinny, B. she refuses to actually work to pay off her sins, preferring instead to steal the necessary money, and C. took over the world, which is an incredibly heavy sin that she probably couldn't pay off anyway. It's {{played for laughs}}, but this may be a FateWorseThanDeath: a soul that cannot reincarnate supposedly feels more caged than any mere prison could hope to accomplish. But hey, there's a universe to conquer after the world!
* BatterUp: In addition to wielding a bat, two of her unique attacks are based on baseball.
* BigSisterInstinct: When [[VideoGame/Disgaea3AbsenceOfJustice Mao]] starts taking an ''interest'' in Desco, she gets really protective of her. [[MadScientist Considering]] [[TortureTechnician that]] [[NoSenseOfPersonalSpace it's]] [[MemeticMolester Mao]], though, can we really blame her? One of her quotes in ''Disgaea 5'' also has her state that Desco is her beloved little sister, and she'll beat the crap out of whoever messes with her.
* BlankWhiteEyes: Her eyes become these whenever she's confused.

* ClothingDamage: In the manga, it's her only real drawback of using her full power.
* CurtainsMatchTheWindow: Brown eyes, brown hair.
* CuteBruiser: She should have the level of strength you'd find in a normal teenage girl or at best a prinny, but ends up a fairly tough member of the party who is able to take down Hellmoney, who is supposedly as powerful as Hugo, without the help of Valvatorez, Emizel, or Fenrich.
* {{Determinator}}: Gameplay wise, in the Vita port of ''VideoGame/{{Disgaea 3|Absence of Justice}}'', she has an Evility which instantly revives her upon defeat, with a boost to her ATK stat. Story-wise, she refuses to ever become a prinny, no matter what.
* TheDitz: Dumb as a box of rocks. She might be able to outwit a single brick, though.
* DudeMagnet: Played with. In the Fuka & Desco Mode OnTheNext segments, Valvatorez, Fenrich, Axel, and [[LesYay Desco]] are vying for her affection. These are all not only out of character, but sound like a cheap soap opera.
* DumbassHasAPoint: Fuka is prone to this from time to time, like when she deduced Emizel's father had purposely abandoned him (something which Fenrich commented on), or when she gave surprisingly detailed info about the bio-suits in Chapter 8.
* EveryoneHasStandards: She's generally a self-centered jerk, but she doesn't like it when adults bully a child like Emizel and is rather protective of Desco since she considers her her little sister.
* FailureIsTheOnlyOption: [[spoiler:In the special Fuka & Desco Show DLC, her reincarnation will never happen but in her dreams because: 1) Since she has been denying the fact that she's a Prinny, she ultimately was recognized as Fuka Kazamatsuri after passing the "hellish" training from Valvatorez; 2) All the money she took from the Mint won't have any effect to pay for her sins since she didn't even gain it as a Prinny; 3) Although she got her TakeOverTheWorld moment, the sin in itself is extremely heavy and thus cannot be paid with the "jillion" HL she got in the first place.]]

* TheFriendNobodyLikes: Most of the party can't stand her. Gets a bit more literal [[spoiler: during the Fuka & Desco show, where she fights an army of her own clones]].
* IdiotHero: In the Fuka & Desco show.
* ImplausibleDeniability: No matter how much evidence there is to the contrary, she will never admit that she's dead. On the plus side, it is part of the [[AchievementsInIgnorance reason]] why she is able to keep up with demons and angels despite being an [[OrdinaryHighschoolStudent ordinary middle school student]].
* InsaneTrollLogic: Sometimes spews this, especially when "explaining" why she's obviously just dreaming. Valvatorez even says her logic makes no sense during her [[MultipleEndings epilogue]].
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: She's rude, aggressive, selfish, ambitious, and never listens to anyone. She does have a soft spot for Desco (eventually) and gets along well with Artina, but most of the rest of the party just doesn't like her as a result. She has a particular admiration for Sister Artina as well in the Time Leap scenario since Artina is far more selfless and kind than Fuka is even ''capable'' of being.
%%* LargeHam
* MsFanservice: In the manga, it's uncommon to go two pages without a shot [[PantyShot up her skirt]] and, unlike the game, her full power has the drawback of shredding her clothes apart in the process.
* MusclesAreMeaningless: Notable in the manga, where she is seen to be carrying a boulder on her shoulder with ease.
* MythologyGag: For her final attack, Fuka summons OptionalBoss Pringer X.
* OneeSama: Addressed by Desco as such, although she doesn't seem to like the idea at first. [[spoiler:Turns out to be a somewhat literal case as Desco was created by Fuka's father to be her little sister.]]
* OrdinaryHighschoolStudent: Middle school at any rate. Or at least she was...
* LittleMissBadass: She's only a middle schooler, but she can easily keep up with the demons of the Netherworld.
* OurGhostsAreDifferent: Well, something like that. One of the [=NPCs=] says that she's a human soul with a Prinny cap on, and everyone mentions that she's dead (to her eternal denial).
* PersonaNonGrata: [[spoiler:Flonne]] banned her from Celestia forever.
* PetTheDog: Towards Desco in her scenario, of the AwLookTheyReallyDoLoveEachOther variety.
* PintSizedPowerhouse: Despite being a skinny fourteen-year-old girl, Fuka has the highest attack stat of the main cast and serves as the MightyGlacier.
* PunctuatedForEmphasis: "No! I! Am! Not!"
* SailorFuku: She gets to keep the school uniform she had in life.
* SayItWithHearts: Occasionally uses either a ♥ or a ♪.
* SelectiveObliviousness: Refuses to believe anything about being dead. After awhile, she seems to be convinced, but then goes back to claiming it's all a dream because she doesn't want it to work like that. In the Fuko and Desco Show, she starts getting some contradictory goals as a result of not admitting she's dead but trying to reincarnate anyway.
* ShipperOnDeck: For Valvatorez with, well, almost anyone around his physical age. Immediately started shipping him with Vulcanus [[spoiler:(Artina)]] when she first learns about her, but there's a sense that she also supports him with Fenrich. By the end of the Netherbattle Tournament, [[spoiler:she sees Krichevskoy as a viable option for Val as well]].
* ShipTease: Not to mention her OWN implied interest with Val in her ending and the manga.
* SpellMyNameWithAnS: Originally spelled "Fuuka" before NISA released her official U.S. name.
* SweetTooth: She adores her sweets and chocolate. This comes back to bite her in her DLC scenario in ''Disgaea 5''.
* TakeOverTheWorld: Her ambition [[ImprobableAge at the age of five!]]
* TheTeamNormal: Val and Fenrich are respectively a vampire and werewolf, Desco a manufactured demon, Emizel a natural demon, and Vulcanus an angel. Fuka is simply a normal human girl, albeit a technically undead and very stubborn one.
* ThoseTwoGirls: With Desco. It's impossible for any of them to be alone without the other whenever they must cameo in subsequent Disgaea games.
* TokenHuman: The other party members are demons and an angel, but Fuka is the only human of the lot (though technically the angel is a former human).
* TomboyishBaseballCap: Wears a Prinny hat and happens to wield an axe in battle.
* TomboyWithAGirlyStreak: On one hand, she conforms to almost all of the archetypal girly traits in fiction, such as dreaming of a {{prince charming}}, loves hot guys in little clothing, loves sweets and desserts, loves to gossip, worries about makeup, likes to dress up, vain about her own appearance, loves sweet/girly/cute things, and is a hopeless romantic. On the other hand, she is very abrasive and violently good at baseball.

* BrattyHalfPint: At the start of the game, where he was a wimpy, cowardly kid who liked to flaunt his position as Hugo's son. He grows out of this after Valvatorez gives him a harsh but needed pep talk.
* ButtMonkey: Nothing goes right for him, especially during the first few chapters of the game. While the game eases up on him a little after joining the Hades Party, he tends to be the victim of various antics more than the rest of the cast.

* {{Nepotism}}: It's made pretty clear that Emizel got his position as head of the Abaddon because of his father.
* NervousWreck: As he's not yet become the brave demon he yearns to be, and he's one of the only characters who realizes how nuts the rest of the world around him is, he tends to get very nervous very quickly.
* OnlySaneMan: During the Next Episode segments, and most of the game.
* OverlordJr: He's the only son of President Hugo and, pre-{{Character Development}} he won't let a moment pass without letting everyone know.
* PickyEater: In contrast to Valvatorez, he hates fish.
* Really700YearsOld: Looks like a child, but is actually 1324 years old.
%%* RedEyesTakeWarning
* {{Shinigami}}: Being a grim reaper, he reaps souls and sends them to the afterlife. He's scared of doing it though, [[spoiler:but does it to Nemo for his first job at the end of the game]]. During the Fuko and Desco Show, he's also seen reaping prinnies during the Red Moon so they can reincarnate.
* SinisterScythe: Wields one in his first and third skill. [[spoiler:Gets to use it story-wise and for the first time by taking Judge Nemo's soul.]]
* SpearCounterpart: To [[VideoGame/Disgaea2CursedMemories Rozalin]], what with being a young, blond demon with a famous father that spoils him rotten who regularly uses his father's reputation to get whatever he wants. He even says "I am the president's one and only son!", echoing Rozalin's CatchPhrase. On top of that, upon spending more time in the lower regions of the Netherworld, [[CharacterDevelopment he begins to realize the problems that are plaguing the Netherworld and vows to confront his father.]] Fuka even comments that Rozalin, in her DLC cut scene, is just like him. [[spoiler:The big difference being that his father genuinely cares for him in the game canon]].
* SpoiledBrat: He is even called so in his official site description. At least until his rather impressive amount of CharacterDevelopment.
* SquishyWizard: He's able to dole out amazing damage, but his Defense aptitude is only 80%, which is very low. He does have more HP than other mages, though it won't help him all that much in practice.
* TheStarscream: Eventually becomes one to [[spoiler:President ''Axel'']]. A heroic example though, because he really is trying to help the Netherworld.
* WellDoneSonGuy: Really just wants his father to be proud of him.
* WrongGenreSavvy: Very quick to note that whoever organized the Netherbattle Tournament is purposely trying to lure Valvatorez with the bonus prize -- a thousand-year supply of sardines. [[spoiler:Turns out that he's only half right. Sardines weren't among the prizes. Artina lied to Val about that to get him to participate so she can get the prize money.]]

[[quoteright:206:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Altina_angel_2_2256.png]]

An angel from Celestia known as "The Angel of Avarice" for her [[OnlyInItForTheMoney ruthless greed]]. She claims to have come to the Netherworld to collect on a hefty HL debt, and doesn't care ''how'' she gets the money. She looks identical to Artina, the human girl whom Valvatorez failed to protect after promising he would not drink human blood until she feared him. Valvatorez refuses to believe they could be the same person, a notion she supports by using the cover name of Vulcanus.
----
* AscendToAHigherPlaneOfExistence: A human of surpassing virtue may become an angel after their death, which happened to Artina after her current superior noticed the purity of her soul. You can get a duplicate version of her original form as a human through one of the post-game scenarios. Like this, she has a different model, specials, and slightly better stats.
* AngelicBeauty: Although she looked much the same when she was alive.
* BecomingTheMask: While she claims all she is doing is fulfilling her mission, you can't help but think she is a bit too enthusiastic about stealing everyone's money.
%%* BraidsOfAction
* BrokenPedestal: Jokingly considered as one by the party, with everyone claiming they can't believe that an angel is so greedy. Especially Val, who refuses to believe she could be Artina.
* CannotSpitItOut: Postgame, Fuka successfully blackmails her into heisting the mint by forcing her to either admit she likes Valvatorez or keep pretending she's still in the Netherworld to keep collecting on its rather massive debts.
* CaptainObviousReveal: Oh my god, [[spoiler:she's Artina]]! ... Seriously? You didn't realize that? An [[InUniverse in-]] and out-of-universe example, as the complete obviousness of the reveal is hilariously lampshaded by basically everyone who isn't [[spoiler:Flonne]], who forgot it was even supposed to be secret.
--> '''Fuka''': Hehheh... [[IKnewIt Called it!]]
* CombatMedic: Very good with healing magic with staves, and can use guns.
* CoolBigSis: To Fuka and Desco.
* DiedInYourArmsTonight: Specifically, Val's arms. Well, she had to become an angel somehow, right?
* DullEyesOfUnhappiness: Present during her "sad" CharacterPortrait.
* FearlessFool: After she showed no fear of Tyrant Valvatorez and actually pitied him for needing to feed off of humans, he considered her reckless to the point he was actually somewhat insulted. And it shows in the Time Leap scenario where she knows perfectly well that she could easily be killed or branded a traitor, but keeps on aiding the injured anyway. [[spoiler:Even when it's accidentally let slip that she's going to die if she isn't careful, she simply says she figured that might happen and continues on anyway.]]
* FiveFingerDiscount: She claims that she came to return all the money that was unlawfully transferred to the Netherworld from Celestia. She decides to do this by stealing money and valuables in such a manner that she's notorious even among ''demons''.
* FutureMeScaresMe: Fear isn't really a thing that Artina does, but she does find descriptions of her future self extremely embarrassing given that she's a nun that has presumably taken a vow of chastity, but in the future is nearly dating a vampire, wears extremely revealing clothes, and acts incredibly greedy.
* GoodSamaritan: She will tend to anyone on the field of battle despite the ''many'' dangers that await her.
* GuardianAngel: She tried to be this for [[spoiler:Judge Nemo]], but her words fell on deaf ears.
* GunsAkimbo: When she powers up to fight the party.
* TheGunslinger: Guns are one of her weapons of choice, and she even prefers them in story.
* HiddenHeartOfGold: She pretends to be greedier and harsher than she is, especially before she joins the party. Even then, she's pretty bad at it, such as using her blood to save the Netherworld from the A-virus infection and then hastily trying to claim that it's only so she can sell the antidote for ridiculous sums of money.
* HorribleJudgeOfCharacter: She's convinced that her archangel superior is a kind and wise figure of surpassing virtue. When she finds out that her Lady Archangel is a flaky ditz who [[spoiler:wastes the money she's been collecting on a giant robot that doesn't even work when they first get it]], she simply becomes ''[[SelectiveObliviousness more]]'' determined to believe in her. Her superior is indeed kind and well meaning, [[spoiler:but she's also an idiot, not the wise saint Artina believes her to be.]]
* HospitalHottie: Back when she was a human nurse, she assumed the stories that vampires prefer beautiful virgins true, so she offered her own blood to Valvatorez by saying she's "pretty cute and a virgin to boot."
* IWasJustPassingThrough: She's only joining the team because they owe her money. Really!
* IdenticalStranger: Pretends not to know who this Artina girl who looks exactly like her is, but doesn't do a very good job of hiding it.
* ImpliedLoveInterest: One to Valvatorez. However, despite the WillTheyOrWontThey they receive in the game and other appearances in media, it doesn't seem that anything becomes of their relationship yet mainly due to the fact that despite the both of them having feelings for each other and are aware of it but they don't openly acknowledge it for some reason.
* IncorruptiblePurePureness: According to Valvatorez, Artina possessed the purest of hearts, which is why he doubted that she and money-grubbing Vulcanus were the same person. For her part, she gets offended when people call her a thief, saying she's simply collecting debts and nothing more.
* InsistentTerminology: It's not stealing, it's ''collection''.
* JustifiedCriminal: Claims that the Netherworld owes Celestia incredible amounts of money, which isn't helped by the inflation in the Netherworld.
* KillTheCutie: Very sweet, kind, and obviously good as a human, but attacked and killed by her own countrymen for helping an enemy.
* LemonyNarrator: She narrates the Fuka and Desco Show and is even worse at the job than Valvatorez. Reframing the story as a cheesy romance aside, her metaphors are so bad that they might actually be poisonous to read.
* MsFanservice: Unlike when she was a nun, she dresses quite provocatively. In her Disgaea 5 appearance, Killia will point out that she doesn't look like a nun due to how she's dressed.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: She feels very guilty about [[spoiler:being unable to do anything for Nemo]] and just as guilty that she even kept trying when she knew it was pointless rather than [[spoiler:look for Valvatorez and find out that he'd become a powerless nobody thanks to the promise only she can help him fulfill]].
* NaughtyNuns: Actually averted in the Time Leap scenario. She's rather skeptical of the idea that she and Valvatorez will ever be a thing, even though she's quick to believe that she'll be killed soon. She strongly implies that she's taken a vow of chastity as a nun, though she doesn't seem to consider this binding anymore as an angel.
* NoGoodDeedGoesUnpunished: Helping [[spoiler:the enemy soldier Nemo]] when she was human not only caused her death but her name would be forever reviled as a blackhearted traitor. Her death is the root cause of much of the plot and the current crisis in the game. Valvatorez lost his power, which resulted in Hugo becoming president with the Corrupterment deteriorating while [[spoiler:Nemo goes off the deep end after her death and starts plotting the destruction of both Earth and the Netherworld]].
* OnlyInItForTheMoney: Claims she's only accompanying the group first because Val must owe her five million HL for [[spoiler:taking the bullet for him]] since that's half the bounty Fenrich said he had, then so she can charge her for [[spoiler:using her blood to cure the A Virus]], and finally because she intends to steal from the mint. Uh huh.
* OurCentaursAreDifferent: She summons an armored winged centaur in her last Special Attack.
* ThePollyanna: As a human, she was very calm and even-tempered despite barely being able to afford food thanks to spending what little money she had on medicine for people who couldn't even pay her and as often would have considered her an enemy. Eventually, she died for it, but told Valvatorez not to retaliate against the humans responsible because she didn't blame them.
* ThePowerOfBlood: Like other angels, her blood has the power to purify any impurities, [[spoiler:including the A-Virus]].
* Really700YearsOld: She's over four hundred years old old now. Minus the fashion changes, her appearance hasn't changed a bit in centuries.
* {{Reincarnation}}: She was turned into an angel upon death thanks to her overwhelming virtue. Fuka and Desco love to gossip about the possibility of a ReincarnationRomance.
* RoseHairedSweetie: By far the most moral and kind member of the party, and even then, that's when her HiddenHeartOfGold isn't apparent.
* SheIsNotMyGirlfriend: Not much better than Val when it comes to their relationship.
%%%%* ShowSomeLeg:
* ShipTease: With Valvatorez, to the point that his ending with her comes off as a WillTheyOrWontTheySituation.
* {{Stripperiffic}}: In a series where most of the angels are dressed rather conservatively, Artina's outfit really stands out, even more so when you compare it to her original nun outfit.
* SubordinateExcuse: Continues hanging around the Netherworld in the postgame under the excuse that she's still collecting debts but, you know, there's no need to rush right? When Fuka calls her on it she's forced to join in on Fuka's heists to maintain her cover story.
* TakingTheBullet: [[spoiler:Leaps in front of an attack launched by Axel. She's assumed dead at first, but it just knocked her out.]]
* WhiteMage: In the Vita exclusive scenario she has a different form that can be unlocked in the main game after completion. Unlike the normal Artina, she lacks the ability to use a gun and has no offensive spells apart from her own unique attacks. She also has completely different evilities, the best of which are support focused. With her last evility, upon death she even doubles the stats and fully heals all deployed characters, remaining a support character right until the end.
* WillTheyOrWontThey: Gets quite a bit of ShipTease with Valvatorez in both their origin game and the material that follows, however, it doesn't seem like anything will become of their relationship despite this.
* WithCatlikeTread: When sneaking [[spoiler:into the Information Bureau in her Prinny disguise]], she provides her own sneaking noises. [[spoiler:The game even refers to her as "Suspicious Prinny''.]] [[HilariousInHindsight Funny]], considering that [[VideoGame/DisgaeaHourOfDarkness her superior did the same thing.]]

The 61st President of the Netherworld and Emizel's father. Valvatorez launches a campaign to remove him from power after a number of abuses of the Corrupternment come to light, such as the elimination of all Prinnies, imprisonment of "innocent" demons, and the dumping of toxic waste from the Human World into the Netherworld. Valvatorez and the others have no idea what he's thinking allowing these abuses, especially since he actually has a good reputation in Celestia.
----
* AntiVillain: He's not exactly enthusiastic about what he's doing and is in fact particularly upset about the effects of the A-Virus. [[spoiler:Small wonder, since he was forced into everything he's done and is simply trying his best to get what little fear energy he can from Earth.]] Overall, he combines aspects of [[{{SlidingScaleOfAntiVillains}} types 3 and 4]].
* AsskickingLeadsToLeadership: In the Netherworld, this is how someone gets the title of President, which is stated to be equivalent to the title of Overlord. [[spoiler:Eventually loses it after being defeated by Valvatorez. Axel takes the title, but when he eventually loses it, he's expunged from the Netherworld records.]]
* CorruptPolitician: Valvatorez is stunned at the abuses the Corrupterment is both allowing and engaging in. [[spoiler:However, he actually tried his best to increase the flow of fear energy, but nothing worked and he was forced into becoming Nemo's pawn.]]
* DealWithTheDevil: [[spoiler:He's the one making the deal, not the devil despite his position and species. He was forced to sell demon samples to the human world for a pittance of fear energy for the netherworld, which was still insufficient.]]
* DePower: [[spoiler:Due to the lack of fear energy, he can't use his full power even in his first transformation and can't use the others at all. In the past, he fought evenly with Tyrant Valvatorez, but now can't even stand up to the weakened normal Valvatorez and his group of misfits.]]
* DiscOneFinalBoss: Confronted in chapter 7, which is actually called the final chapter along with several chapters after it. Well, it's made clear early on that he's in an inferior position to the mysterious blond guy that keeps popping in.
* GoodAllAlong: [[spoiler:He was forced to decide between the netherworld being completely starved of fear energy or getting a few scraps from the human world in exchange for selling demon samples. He chose the latter, but either way would have resulted in Valvatorez rising up against him.]]
* TheGrimReaper: He's not just any Reaper, he's Death King Hugo.
* IHaveNoSon: [[spoiler:Ordered the Information Bureau to report his son as dead after Fenrich sends him blackmail footage of Emizel's humiliating defeat. Justified, because he did it to protect his son from Judge Nemo.]]
* KickTheDog: His treatment of Emizel. [[spoiler:He fakes Emizel's death to prevent being blackmailed. However, cruel as that was, he ''does'' care for his son and faked his death to avoid having Emizel dragged into the mess with Nemo, protecting him in a way.]]
* KnightOfCerebus: He's the BigBad the story builds up to [[spoiler:but it's actually subverted: When he loses, he gracefully submits and supports Valvatorez in his own attempts to save the Netherworld, since he simply isn't up to the task.]]
* LargeAndInCharge: Fittingly for being the ruler of the Netherworld, he's a pretty large demon.
* OneWingedAngel: Turns into his Reaper form during the fight with him. This trope is [[LampshadeHanging Lampshaded]] by Valvatorez, who says Hugo has at least three more transformations in store [[spoiler:but he says the fight is actually over already: He doesn't have enough power to reach those forms anymore.]]
* PromotedToPlayable: He joins the party after a certain stage of the Fuka and Desco Show.
* WellIntentionedExtremist: [[spoiler:Trying to keep the netherworld going as long as possible. He's simply in an impossible position.]]
* WorfHadTheFlu: [[spoiler:The lack of fear energy drains more power if you had more to start with. He can't reach anything like his former level of power as a result.]]
* WorthyOpponent: Valvatorez has genuine respect for his abilities, [[spoiler:having fought him inconclusively for days in the past when both were at full power. He's actually insulted to realize that Hugo can't show that much power anymore.]]

A mysterious human who appears to be working behind the scenes in the Corrupternment. He is actually the spirit of a soldier who suffered during a war on Earth. After the death of Artina, the only person who showed him kindness during those dark times, he began to plot the destruction of everything by working behind the scenes in the Netherworld and on Earth.
----
* TheAtoner: Willingly becomes a Prinny to atone for what he has done.
* BerserkButton: He generally remains calm and acts like everything is going according to plan. Then, he hears Artina's name and all that composure is gone.
* BreakingOldTrends: [[spoiler: He's the sole FinalBoss in the series thus far to be a humanoid unit; everyone else both before and after him are classed as monster-types. To reflect this, he's also the first final boss to ditch being Level 90, instead being Level 100. The final boss for both ''VideoGame/DisgaeaD2'' and ''VideoGame/Disgaea5'' are Level 80 and 120 respectively.]]
* BigBad: The story set up Hugo as one, but the true culprit behind the Netherworld's decline is this guy.
* ByTheEyesOfTheBlind: He literally can't see or hear angels due to his lack of faith, [[spoiler:though eventually this just becomes normal denial]]. It's because of this that [[spoiler:Artina had a hard time getting him to end his madness]].

* GreaterScopeVillain: He's the mastermind who orchestrated most of the events of the game.
* HumansAreBastards: A firm believer of this. [[spoiler:Which is why he wants to destroy the Human World.]]
* KnightOfCerebus: The story became a lot more serious when Valvatorez finally met this guy.
* LargeHam: Mostly in Japanese, especially when he's really unhinged.
* TheMadHatter: By his own admission, he is "missing a bolt or two up here."
* ManBehindTheMan: To Hugo.
* ManipulativeBastard: He actually [[spoiler:manipulates humans '''and''' aliens]].
* MeaningfulName: "Nemo" is Latin for "no one" as [[LampshadeHanging Desco points out]].
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: When Artina finally manages to get through to him, he's ashamed at all of the suffering he's caused (mainly because he saddened Artina), and decides to [[spoiler:condemn both himself and Fear The Great to limbo for eternity]]. It takes the Hades Party's efforts to snap him out of it.
* OmnicidalManiac: He wants to [[spoiler:destroy the Human World for all of the crap and hatred it put him through. Doing this would also wipe out the Demons' source of fear energy, and the Angels' faith energy, dooming them as well.]]
* OurGhostsAreDifferent: He's actually a ghost, yet looks no different than your average human; not unlike Fuka. This explains why he can breathe on the moon, something no normal human should be able to do.
* ThePowerOfHate: Pretty much the only reason he is still around after his body withered away is his unrelenting hatred for humanity and demons. [[spoiler:So much that he becomes a host to Fear the Great.]]
* RedemptionEqualsDeath: [[spoiler:Defied. He attempts to allow his soul to fade away into limbo as Fear the Great is destroyed due to feeling he is wholly beyond redemption, but the Hades Party is having none of it, and deliberately rescues him from destruction with the express purpose of making him atone for his many sins, no matter how long it takes.]]
* ScaryShinyGlasses: His sprite [[spoiler:during the final battle]].
* SharpDressedMan: Wears a pretty badass red suit.
* ThatManIsDead: Refuses to give his name because "it was useless to me while I was being reborn."
* ThrowTheDogABone: Sure, becoming a Prinny may not seem like a form of mercy, especially since he'll be a Prinny for a very long time due to all the sins he committed, but considering all he went through and that he was about to sacrifice his own soul, it definitely comes off as uplifting.
* VillainousBreakdown: He acts like a smug, manipulative bastard throughout the story... [[spoiler:but when Fuka, Genjuro, and the Descos settle their differences ([[DysfunctionJunction well, mostly]]), his facade starts to undergo rapid decay -- starting with the [[DetonationMoon moon's]] [[ColonyDrop destruction]] [[OmnicidalManiac and escalating from there]].]]

* XanatosSpeedChess: [[spoiler:Even when you think you've taken apart one of his plans, you find out he has yet another. 541An artificial demon created by Fuka's father. She is an advanced version of Desco, described as the "true final boss". She was responsible for killing both Fuka and Desco. After the events of the main game, Genjuro makes a few modifications to Des X to instead make her Earth's Guardian. To reflect this, her name is changed to Earth X.
----
* CainAndAbel: She's the Cain to both Desco and Fuka Abel, having elminated both of them. She is the reason why both of them are in Hades.
* CloneAngst: She wanted to be the real daughter.
* DubNameChange: Her Japanese name is "Dezetto", which can be translated as "Des Z". Same thing happens in the Fuka and Desco Show, where her name was originally Earth Z.
* EvilTwin: To Desco.
* GenkiGirl: She’s more energetic after becoming Earth X.
* MeaningfulRename: She goes from being the final boss created to destroy the world to being Earth's final line of defense, thus why she's now "Earth X". Ironically, she's the final boss of the Fuka & Desco mode.
* PaletteSwap: Outside of her constant scowl, her character design is basically just Desco but with more pale colors, something that the Hades Party lampshades.
-->'''Vulcanus:''' ...She looks a lot like Miss Desco.
-->'''Emizel:''' ...A lot? The only thing different about her is the color.
-->'''Fenrich:''' Was that a cost-cutting tactic by the creator? ...Explain this to us, lass.
-->'''Fuka:''' Don't ask me! Ask my dad if you really want to know!
* TookALevelInKindness: As Earth X. Though you still end up fighting her in the Fuka & Desco Show, she now calls Fuka "Big Sis" and congratulates Desco upon her defeat. She even acts less [[SmugSnake cold]] and more HotBlooded.
* {{Yandere}}: A father-daughter version. Des X loves Fuka's father but despises Fuka and Desco, both of whom she killed.

Axel is a returning character from ''Disgaea 2''. Formerly known as the Dark Hero, he traveled to this Netherworld to 'dye it in his colors', but forgot what he was supposed to be doing and ended up the warden of Hades instead. He's still incredibly incompetent, vain, and dim. He's a recurring enemy in the first half of the game.
----
* TheDitz: Manages to be stupider than Fuka.
* TheFriendNobodyLikes: He becomes a party member in the post game. Nobody takes him seriously and they don't want him around either, but he won't go away.
* GoldfishPoopGang: A recurring enemy early on, but treated as completely harmless. He's actually reasonably powerful, though, given his unique 3x3 skill and only taking half damage from humanoid units, which make up your whole mandatory party minus Desco.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: In the Fuka and Desco show, he's actually helping Torn Desco not just because he's a crummy little toady, but because he genuinely supports her desire to stay with her Big Sis.
* MadeOfIron: He has a way of surviving things that should kill him no worse for wear. Desco thought she vaporized him at one point, but he showed up a few chapters later without a scratch.
* TheNarcissist: He's highly self-centered and is constantly thinking about how great he is.
* ProfessionalButtKisser: He tries to ingratiate himself to whoever looks the strongest so he can get the most influential position he can.
* UnPerson: He becomes president briefly late in the game, then loses and regains it several times in the post-game. Eventually, his name is stricken from the record when Emizel gets the position.
* TheVirus: The Corrupternment somehow saw it ethical to battle the Hades Party by creating a viral virus from Axel that [[spoiler:turns its victims into Axel copies. Luckily, Vulcanus' angel blood becomes the ultimate cure that completely eradicates the pandemic]].

Fuka's father. From what she says about him, he's always working and never visits her. He turns out to be a researcher from the human world that is funded by Nemo, and he's also the creator of Desco. It's ultimately revealed that his research was to fulfill his late wife's last request, which was to fulfill the wishes of Fuka. Those wishes were having a little sister and taking over the world -- not that she remembers.
----
* AscendedFanboy: He claims to be "kind of a movie fanatic". [[spoiler:He was inspired to make demon clones from [[LawyerFriendlyCameo a movie about]] [[Film/JurassicPark dinosaur]] [[ShoutOut clones]].]]
* BumblingDad: He really does mean well for his daughter. It's just that whatever he does for that end is ridiculous and somewhat [[NiceJobBreakingItHero murderous]].
* ComicallyMissingThePoint: He [[spoiler:made Desco and Des X because Fuka claimed she wanted to take over the world (when she was very young)]].
* CrazyPrepared: In the DLC cut scenes, he's always ready to fix a ship if something goes wrong. In the case of [[VideoGame/SoulNomadAndTheWorldEaters Gig]], he even had crates of hotpods prepared for him.
* EvilGenius: [[spoiler:Not quite evil, though.]]
* ForScience: His [[spoiler:other]] motivation.
* MadScientist: It's his ''title''.
* MarriedToTheJob: [[spoiler:With a twist -- it's revealed he was doing everything for his daughter.]]
* TrulySingleParent: Since he couldn't properly father the little sister Fuka always wanted with his wife dead, he just decided to ''make'' one instead. It also gave him the opportunity to put in all that "advanced functionality" that Fuka always wanted.

[[folder:Lady Archangel]]
[[quoteright:240:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/d4_archangel_flonne.png]]
Artina's mysterious supervisor, who recruited her some time after her death. She's actually Flonne, the well-meaning but largely brainless angel from ''Disgaea 1'' who had a brief stint as a fallen angel before being promoted to an archangel in ''Disgaea 3'''s Raspberyl Mode.
----
* GeniusDitz: She actually foretold the events of the game and worked to counter Nemo's scheme. Without her help, the game would have ended in chapter nine with the destruction of the Earth. However, she's also childish and not exactly the brightest bulb around.
* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold: Carrying over from the first game where she was the most moral party member with long blond hair and an innocent demeanor.
* ImmortalImmaturity: Most likely several hundred years older than she was in the last game, though it's not really clear how much time has passed. However, she stills acts like a little kid half the time.
* {{Otaku}}: She uses the money Artina has been collecting to build [[HumongousMecha a giant faith-powered robot]] to counteract the moon's fall. It works, but there ''has'' to have been a more efficient way of doing things.
* PointyHairedBoss: To an extent. Her giant robot did save the Earth, but that money was actually needed to fix Celestia's economy but was instead spent on what amounts to a giant toy for herself. Her other decisions are often even worse.

A new character introduced in the UpdatedRerelease. A mechanic trying to end a war, said war being the war held 400 years ago in which Tyrant Valvatorez and Artina met. She calls upon Fuka and Desco (perhaps by accident) to help her in her mission.
----
* BespectacledCutie: A cute, clumsy young mechanic who wears glasses.
* BreakTheCutie: [[spoiler:The whole death of her family gave her a BIG scar...]]
* CuteClumsyGirl: It's only implied by her to be a clumsy mechanologist. The bandage on her forehead proves it.
* EarnYourHappyEnding: [[spoiler:Though Nagi, Fuka, and Desco all fail to prevent Artina's death anyway and causes great discomfort in her, the clock activates by itself and pulls Nagi back to the present 400 years in the future, where she tearfully reunites with Artina and Valvatorez and decides to stay with the team.]]
* ForeheadOfDoom: Fuka and Desco speculate that she's keeping a sealed power under her bandage. Unfortunately, it's only there because Nagi hit her forehead by slipping on ''a screw''.
* FriendlessBackground: The war didn't let her make any friends. [[spoiler:Coupled with her dead family, she starts to understand by Artina that she's not so alone anymore, which comes to stick with her in the ending of her scenario.]]
* NoodleIncident: It is never found out if [[spoiler:Fuka and Desco were really the ultimate warriors Nagi was looking for]].
* OvershadowedByAwesome: Has an interesting set of evilities with excellent synergy with Tyrant Valvatorez's evility and a very useful ultimate attack, but unfortunately her stats favor guns, which makes her compete with GameBreaker gun user Pleinair, who you can get right at the start of the post-game in the Vita rerelease Nagi appears in.
* TankGoodness: One of her special moves.
* TechnicolorEyes: They're gold and pretty odd.
* {{Technopath}}: She is a "mechanologist," meaning she uses technology and a variety of magic spells connected to them.
* TeenGenius: She's only fourteen, but she's already a skilled mechanic and well-versed in magic.
* ViolenceIsTheOnlyOption: She desperately tries to stop the war by hurting and killing soldiers. When confronted about it, she strongly denies why she feels this way. Until [[spoiler:the party learns her parents and big sister were all killed because of the war, which drove Nagi to the deep end]].
* WrenchWench: She uses technology to fight.
* WrenchWhack: Her default weapon is a wrench, although treated as an axe for gameplay purposes.
