* {{Squick}}: It's clear the actor playing Grandpa is trying to come across as affectionate towards his grandson, but the manner in which he touches Zindy can get ''very'' uncomfortable to watch, given that Zindy is a small child who is often shirtless or naked (when he sleeps) and the "ew" factor gets shot into the stratosphere during the brief scene where the two of them bathe naked in the water and Grandpa is still tickling and hugging Zindy.

This is made either better or worse by how the two were ''actually'' grandfather and grandson in real life.

* WhatAnIdiot: Anita's mother for sending a small child out for "help" in the middle of a swamp at night during a monsoon. It's shown that the next morning, people find her AND the carriage, meaning if she had just hunkered down with Anita inside the carriage during the night, they both would have been rescued safe and sound.
** Grandpa, for not following ''his own advice'' to Zindy, which is to stay away from the Devil's Swamp. We know it was dark and he was lost, but Grandpa has been there for ten years and should have recognized where he was, or simply stayed in one spot until daylight when he could see better.

* {{Padding}}: The incredibly long scenes of Grandpa or Zindy paddling through the swamp or Zindy playing the flute.
* TheScrappy: She's only in the final third of the film, but Anita's constant whining (though understandable since she's lost in the swamp with an incredibly weird swamp boy) makes her very annoying.

* AudienceAlienatingPremise: On the surface, it looks like a seemingly-quaint jungle movie with a child protagonist and his grandfather...with FamilyUnfriendlyViolence and adult themes intercut with scenes of the cute kid and his animal friends. The grandfather is wanted by the authorities, both for murder (the man he killed murdered Zindy's parents, so this was also an act of revenge), as well as kidnapping the infant Zindy. Just when there's a chance for redemption for Grandpa, [[spoiler:he dies in quicksand]], and just as there's a chance for Zindy for experience life outside the jungle [[spoiler:he gets mauled to death by a cougar.]]

* StockFootageFailure: The puma rarely appears in the same shot with the human characters, and seems to have been filmed in a different location. This is frequently lampshaded in the RiffTrax.
