* MoralEventHorizon: Sabretooth crossed this long, long ago, but (for Logan) it was when he [[CartwrightCurse beat, mauled, raped and killed Silver Fox]], then left her body in her and Logan's cabin for Logan to find. What really puts Sabretooth over the top is that Logan immediately ran off for a RoaringRampageOfRevenge. Which, once he found him, he didn't win... [[spoiler:The incident turned out to be a faked memory that was implanted in Logan, Sabretooth, ''and'' Silver Fox by the Weapon X program...and then Sabretooth ended up killing Silver Fox anyway.]]

* CompleteMonster:
** Most of Wolverine's enemies fall into this category, such as [[DrillSergeantNasty Cyber]], [[SovietRussiaUkraineAndSoOn Omega]] [[SerialKiller Red]], [[ThoseWackyNazis Geist]], [[CyberneticsEatYourSoul Donald Pierce]], and especially Sabretooth. It's not just the superpowered scumbags either; the Professor overseeing the Weapon X project which originally bonded adamantium to Logan's skeleton definitely qualifies for this, and in his spare time Wolvie's gone after the likes of human traffickers and slavers.
** Kimura, the physically indestructible thug who was X-23's handler at The Facility.
** Wolverine himself occasionally dips into his trope, especially when he [[spoiler:tortured the man who would become Nuke]].

Logan got up to some downright awful stuff with every faction on the planet you could name. And this was before he struggled to maintain some kind of morality. To be fair, most of the truly horrendous stuff he did was whilst he was being brainwashed, tortured, and manipulated [[spoiler:by Romulus]], such as [[spoiler:murdering a young boy's babysitter and talking the boy's father into commiting suicide before taking the boy to his "handlers", and later, in Vietnam, torturing the same boy, now a grown man and a soldier, and brainwashing him into slaughtering an entire Vietcong village.]]

* SuetifulAllAlong: Originally (and sometimes nowadays as well) he was constantly described and depicted as physically ugly, having a distinct aversion to bathing, and shorter than most teenage girls. He's also got a personality so abrasive it's a miracle he ever lasted as part of a team in the first place. Unfortunately, he speaks 17 languages, his powers make him functionally immortal (he's ''112 years old''), he has two adoptive daughters, he's been married twice, and he's had more romantic relationships than any other X-Man, in spite of the negative qualities listed above. In adaptations, he exemplifies the [[BlackHoleSue Black Hole]] factor of [[MarySue sues]] - other X-Men are DemotedToExtra or suffer CharacterDerailment so he can take ''all'' their roles (and love interest, in Scott's case.)

* TheWoobie: It's clearly been established that the man's been [[DeusAngstMachina traumatized beyond belief]]. Feeling sympathy for him is a common and understandable reaction.
