** Special mention to Azteca, widely considered one of the longest and most tedious worlds in the game. Between it's enemies that now almost always start the fight with a hard-hitting spell, the obnoxious amount of bosses, and the constant backtracking to older areas, it has an infamous reputation amongst players.

It ended with a joke where he returns to find the developers [[ShaggyDogStory considering doing a world called "Penguinonia" instead]]. Players briefly latched onto the name of the world, and several years later the Penguin revolutionaries in Polaris got "Viva la Penguinonia!" as their battle cry.

* CompleteMonster: [[GodSaveUsFromTheQueen Queen Morganthe Malory]], one of the students of Ravenwood Academy, got banished into the void after she tried to study black magic in order to defeat her teacher. When her plans are get discovered by another character, she then attempts to kill him and then selling out her brother to her teacher by telling where he is located in order to get into her teacher's good graces after being defeated. After being banished into the void and escaping from it, she then seeks the power from the planet Celestia by ravaging the entire world in a war. It was also revealed that she tricked a king of a certain realm by wearing a cursed crown, and when said king is turns against Morganthe, she then attempts to fatally poison him. In the realm of Azteca, she then summons the spirits of the dead and then used it to capture and torture the inhabitants so that they could make her a weapon. Distracting the player with her minions, Morganthe summons a [[ColonyDrop meteor to destroy Azteca]]. When she is about to fight the main character in the final battle, she mocks the player about the destruction of Azteca, and when defeated, she then attempts to erase the player's memory. A cruel, sadistic and selfish [[WickedWitch sorceress]] with a massive [[AGodAmI god complex]], Morganthe eventually goes on to attempt to destroy the world to recreate it [[InTheirOwnImage in her own image]].

** The cutscene at the end of Empyrea's first act is kind of terrifying, [[spoiler: mostly due to how cold Raven's reveal of her plan to end the Spiral is. Hearing the game's kindly, ever-present narrator as a villain is ''jarring'', especially for long-time players. The ominous music definitely doesn't help, either]].

* Complete Monster: Morganthe, queen of Khrysalis, spiders, and shadows, is easily the worst villain in the game and is the definition of pure evil. While she was not as bad as a teenager, she still tried to discover dark magic to defeat her own teacher, Merle Ambrose, and attempts to kill Gamma when he discovers her plot. Later, when Malistaire condemns her and says that her recklessness endangers others, she boasts about it and says that she is above others. When she returns after being banished for thousands of years, this is where the horror comes in. Centuries before the main events, she causes a war in the planet Celestia to get its power which results in the planet getting razed. She tricks King Arthur to put on a crown that turns him into a dragon and almost kills him with poison when he turns back. Arguably her worst act is in Azteca. She first summons ghosts and captures them just to torture them to make the Celestial Choir for her, and the worst part, SHE CAUSED THE METEOR XIBALBIA TO CRASH INTO AND DESTROY AZTECA, killing millions if not billions and making the dinosaur-like Aztecans an endangered species. When the hero confronts her before this happens, she laughs and says that she made sure that the hero couldn't stop the meteor by sending her forces to distract him down below. Right before she leaves you to fight Malistaire the Undying, she cruelty gloats that she'll lie to Merle Ambrose that you died well. Clearly, she is probably not going to say that to Ambrose, she would've likely told him that you died like a weak coward. In Khrysalis, she is planning to destroy the Spiral and make it in her own twisted image. Right before she fights you, she sadisticly taunts you about how she kept beating you, gloating about how she destroyed azteca. When you finally beat her, she gets all her power and threatens to "obliterate your living memory", before she is sent to a Death she 101% deserves.A sick, cruel, twisted, depraved, and downright sadistic psychopath who cared for no one but herself and getting power, she is a egotistical genocidal maniac unrivaled in her universe in despicableness and a monster with a God-complex.

Unlike Malistaire, she has no redeeming qualities. She is the only pure evil big bad and is different from the few minor complete monsters we only see once. A sick, cruel, twisted, depraved, and downright sadistic psychopath who cared for no one but herself and getting power, she is a egotistical genocidal maniac unrivaled in her universe in despicableness and a monster with a God-complex.

When he's defeated, his ghost finally reconciles with [[spoiler:his dead wife]] and leaves for the afterlife. [[FridgeHorror He was quite alive before you got your hands on him.]]
** Similarly to Malistaire, Krokhotep is alive and well before you fight him, but is a ghost when you meet him again later in the Tomb of Storms. In this case, thankfully, defeat helps bring him to his senses and he becomes your ally in the fight to recover the Krokonomicon.
** In Krokotopia, the only female Krok is Krokopatra, and there are no female Manders. So where did they all come from again?
*** Actually, a few of the Krok guards in Krokopatra's dungeon are wearing feminine-like outfits.
