** Season 6 was met with some divisiveness for potentially introducing some supernatural elements into what was a (mostly) grounded show, as well as some fans feeling that the season had NoEnding, with more loose threads hanging that usual seasons tend to have.

Added DiffLines:

*BaseBreakingCharacter: Of all the narrators of the show, Freya from Season 4 is easily the most divisive. Her actions are seen in a rather negative light, and her character is not very endearing to a lot of people, coming off as incredibly manipulative and awful.
* EvenBetterSequel: Seasons 2 and 3 are widely seen as the best two seasons of the show, with compelling characters and a tight narrative with good payoff. Season 1, while still regarded as one of the best seasons, on the other hand, often has a somewhat slow start that can make jumping into it harder.
** Season 5 is also seen as this to Season 4, though not as widely regarded as 2 and 3. While the narrative structure may be a bit confusing and the reveal rather obvious, the characters themselves are rather compelling and well-liked.
** Season 7 is also seen as this to Season 6, with a more return to form narrative that many felt was better developed, as well as being one of the few seasons to have a relatively happy and [[HopeSpot hopeful]] ending.
*SophomoreSlump: Seasons 4 (The Cradle), 5 (Voicemail), and 6 (Caregiver) are [[ToughActToFollow often not seen as living up to]] the first three seasons, Seasons 1 (Relaxation Tapes), 2 (Museum Audio Tours), and 3 (Dictation).
** Season 4's narrator, Freya, is not a very popular character in the fandom for her terrible actions and somewhat abhorrent personality.
** Season 5, while better received than 4 and 6, was somewhat seen as a bit hard to follow due to the reverse structure of the narrative, as well as a twist that many fans saw coming early on, making the reveal less satisfying.
** Season 6 was met with some divisiveness for potentially introducing some supernatural elements into what was a (mostly) grounded show, as well as some fans feeling that the season had NoEnding, with more loose threads hanging that usual seasons tend to have.
