* FridgeHorror: As Kazue points out, as merciful as Sayu Kira is in comparison to canon light, the implication are still pretty horrific. Basically if you are found innocent in the court of law your neck is on the chopping block still from an anonymous kangaroo court and court of public opinion even if you may be innocent. A very dystopian reality.

* JerkassHasAPoint: While Light certainly isn’t helping his case by lying to kazue, his defensiveness of Sayu makes a lot of sense, especially for those who may have a younger sibling. Also factoring in while Kazue’s perception skills are good, the proof she has against sayu is sketchy and minimal at best as if they here to added in a court off law, the case would likely be dismissed by the court due to a lack of evidence.

* RootingForTheEmpire: With Sayu as Kira as unlike her brother Light Yagami, she is a far more well intentioned, merciful Kira that doesn’t have a God-complex and avoids killing innocents. As a result, a vast chunk of readers have expressed being Pro Sayu even if they weren’t pro Light in Death Note proper.

* AlternateCharacterInterpretation: Is Light truly lying to protect Sayu? Or is he lying to deflect what he thinks is a manipulation attempt from Kazue because he truly believes she is Kira, perhaps only dating her because she is his chief suspect. Taking her refutation of Kira as her being on the defensive and her wanting to leave the case as a sign of evasion, especially since she does forensics to find the second Kira, something Kira would also want from his pov.

--> What gets me is how Kira says he won’t kill you if you turn yourself in…but really, you’re only safe if you’re found guilty and sentenced. If you’re actually innocent and the court acquits, then suddenly you’re back on the menu because you ‘escaped justice.’ And that’s not getting into how Kira’s trying to replace the court system with a panel of anonymous strangers on internet forums.
