* UnintentionalPeriodPiece: The show's premise is essentially 'virtual reality can create anything,' but even beyond that, at one point the characters bemoan the fact that they cannot contact one another at any time, being dependent on pay phones and landlines, resulting in a specific piece of tech being created for them, the [=VR-VTs=]. The complete lack of cell phones place the show blatantly in the early nineties.

**Voice and Mocap Actor T.J. Storm had one of his early television roles as season 2's Doom Master. He would go on to do voice acting for several video games, be in the 1995 Mortal Kombat movie as a unnamed fighter, and do the mocap work for Godzilla in the Monsterverse continuity.

** Adapting two different Series/MetalHeroes shows meant that JB and Katlin never fight with Ryan when battling a monster (outside of battle grid mode). With 92 total episodes, this becomes more and more obvious through the course of the series, resulting in a very disjointed feel to the action.

*** Katlin would later get the ability to create a mirror clone of herself, probably written to prevent any more inconsistencies.

* SpiritualAdaptation: Compare the fights undertaken by the Lyoko-Warriors against XANA to the Troopers' battle against Grimlord. Hilariously, Saban composer Noam Kaniel composed and sang the theme song to Code Lyoko.

* WhamEpisode: The entire Quest For Power saga for multiple reasons. One, the old VR powers are rendered obsolete and JB and Kaitlin's weapons (including JB's laser lance) need a virtual enhancement program and Ryan needs a new suit entirely. Two, Ryan finally rescues hid father but at the great cost of his virtual knowledge having been copied to use for evil. Three, the main villain's base of operations changes. And finally, four, Grimlord shows just how little he cares for his virtual army. Much like Lord Zedd he had the typical BadBoss talk about making his minions pay for their failures, but this is assumed to be heat of the moment lashing out as Rita and Zedd for example never made good on their threats to kill off their minions for failure. Grimlord, however, declared his old army a "bumbling hindrance" and blows all of them to kingdom come except General Ivar, Colonel Icebot, and some gunbots. He was about to scrap Ivar as well later in season 2 when he saved himself by pulling the old FakeStatic move, when Icebot was confused afterwards, he told him to be quiet.

* SugarWiki/MostWonderfulSound: J.B.'s Laser Lance. Being an Expy of a lightsaber, this was inevitable.
