* CrossesTheLineTwice: Being killed by a GiantSpider is terrifying, but the game manages to make it comical by repeatedly warning you to not go where the spider is located. Eventually, the game caves and lets you go to the spider, and you're killed right away. The icing is the game's IWarnedYou take.

Removed that entry I added. Unlike the Toy Chica entry on NightmareRetardant.Five Nights At Freddys 2, the connection is more tenuous and requires more editing than just pasting a face.

* NightmareRetardant: The Ghost Lady was strong NightmareFuel when many players first saw her, and she'll still quite scary even after video game graphics made several major leaps forward. However, a lot of potential scariness factor disappears once it's clear how easy she can be edited to look like a [[https://booru.soy/post/view/14147 Soyjak meme]].

* UnintentionalPeriodPiece: The game is clearly a product of the 1980s as the story is triggered by having your sibling leave and look for a (pay) phone to call for a tow truck. In a world of cell phones like the present day, this would not happen and thus there would be no story.

Moved to a separate page for the series.

* NightmareFuel: This probably [[LateArrivalSpoiler doesn't surprise anybody]]. However, it needs to be said!
** The woman in white in the first hallway.
** Creatures suddenly appearing without warning (Which usually means a sudden change of music as well).
** The Ruby. You just picked up a seemingly innocent ruby. And as you continued to walk further, [[GameOverMan the red skull that usually serves as the one greeting your death]] suddenly pops up and you continue to slowly feel more and more unwell... until after a few times, turns out the atmosphere of the house corrupts you and you suddenly became zombified. Because you just carry that seemingly innocent Ruby. Or even worse in the Mac version. You enter the house, you're overwhelmed with that cursed aura right from the start. [[TimedMission Better get moving fast.]]
** The descriptions of the [[TheManyDeathsOfYou many, many gruesome deaths]] players will likely be met with.
** The GrossUpCloseUp of most monsters when they kill you.
** The accompanying [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VK-2Q3jBgWs 'You're dead!' music]], which even in 8-bit is scary enough to send a deadly dread that you're going to meet your maker after all the suffering your killer inflicted to you, and may even accompany you, like it or not, in your sleep.
