* BestBossEver: Swordsmachine definitely qualifies, being a rather aggressive opponent wielding a sword and a shotgun, the latter of which you can claim for yourself after beating him for the first time... or by [[spoiler: defeating another Swordsmachine with both phases in the same room, while contending with a much smaller but more vertical room]], which nets you the shotgun before you face him even once.
** Cerberus is also pretty fun and lives up to its title of "Guardian of Hell" fairly competently. And in a move reminiscent of [[VideoGame/DarkSouls Dark Souls]], once you knock the first one to half health, the second one gets up and joins the fight. You'll have to ''earn'' your way into Hell.

* DemonicSpiders: Mindflayers show up at the middle of Act 2-3 and become an annoyance for the rest of the game. They're able to teleport around, fire unparryable projectiles that deal a ton of damage, and strike at you with powerful melee swipes. No range is safe for fighting them, and their high mobility and damage means that striking at them with the shotgun to recover health is often extremely risky. While every enemy has weakpoints, Mindflayers weakpoints are extremely tough to hit thanks to their fast movement, meaning consistently hurting them is difficult. It's telling that most experienced players say to burst them down with the railgun and the nailgun before they even get a chance to really get going.
